Balduccio, that is about 9,000 organically cultivated olive trees, all situated on the picturesque Montalbano hillside between Florence and Montecatini Terme, and an oil mill that is so sought after by local farmers that on the waiting list the most popular dates for pressing between 15 October and 15 November have been fully booked since the summer. This is because Balduccio not only presses its own olives, but also makes its modern technology available to other olive producers. Over the past 20 years, Balduccio has gained recognition and respect among local producers as an oil mill. Because the quality does not only convince the clientele. The ambition to produce top oils is increasingly infecting other olive growers as well.
And the truly excellent quality of the Balduccio extra virgin is no coincidence. The terroir of Montalbano produces high-quality, aromatic olives. But the transformation of the natural qualities into a clean, fruity, terroir-typical olive oil is only possible because Andreas März and his sons have been working on improving olive oil quality for years and have consistently put their findings into practice.
The Balduccio oil smells discreetly of green almonds, also of artichokes and tree-fresh green olives; in the mouth it tastes strong and full-bodied thanks to the high Moraiolo content, green-fruity and actually only discreetly bitter; the best comes at the end: an imposing pungency, given by the extremely high polyphenol values of this vintage.
