The likeable Rosso De Ferrari by Boscarelli reveals a wide scent of chocolate and currants alongside the classic cherry aroma. This complexity continues in the taste, in which the dense, soft texture has a very pleasant effect. SUPERIORE.DE

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2016

Brilliant ruby red with slightly brightening edge. Impressive scent of red berries, smoke and dark spices. On the palate tight, straight, expressive and of beautiful length. Boscarellis Nobile di Montepulciano is a wonderfully precise example of its cultivation zone. SUPERIORE.DE

"Noble, dark ruby red. Closed nose, delicate overripe plum, dried rose petals. Opens on the palate with a melty touch, then in the middle part slightly bitter with an irony mouthfeel, juicy, tight in the finale". Falstaff

"Fresh and bright with strawberry and orange-peel character. Light body, bright acidity and a clean and crisp finish. Fun." James Suckling

"The gorgeous 2016 Vino Nobile includes local blending varieties, Canaiolo Nero, Colorino and Mammolo. A spectrum of enticing aromas greets the nose, from rose, violets and wild cherry to sage and thyme. Elegant, savoury and deceptively light on its feet, the palate proposes sweet yet tangy fruit with layers of finessed, powdery tannin. This superb wine is just at the start of its evolution." • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG 2015

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva DOCG 2015

Ruby red with garnet shimmer. Boscarellis Riserva exudes a wonderful herbal and cherry scent. On the palate juicy, dense and compact, with robust tannins and fine acidity. Long, seductive and fruity the finale. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby red with slightly brightening rim. Open-hearted and fragrant nose of sun-ripened strawberries, wild berries, delicate smoky notes, mineral touch. On the palate balanced and clear, great acid-fruit play, turns out tight and straightforward, strong body, long finish." Falstaff

"This wine is crafted from the estate's original vineyard site from vines that are at least 20 years old. Boscarelli includes a high percentage of Colorino, not just for the deep colour it imparts but as an insurance policy as it buds late and ripens early. While the nose is currently muted, the palate is slightly more expressive. Fleshy fruit coats the robust tannins, giving both substance and balance. Nuances of liquorice play off flavours of black raspberry and plum. This has depth without being heavy or aggressive, and just needs a bit more time." Decanter

"The floral aromas are very pretty with rose petals, lavender and rosemary. Full-bodied, rich and flavorful. Attractive depth of fruit. I like its vibrancy now, but better in one or two years." James Suckling

“Costa Grande” Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2015

A little of everything, but never too much of a good thing. One of the most complex Nobiles we've ever tasted. Delicate red fruits with a pinch of sweetness and flower aroma, underlaid with tobacco. Clear cherry aroma on the palate, in addition a wonderful spice with again this subtle sweetness in the background. A finely tuned and harmonious finale makes you want the next glass. Very well done! SUPERIORE.DE

"Bouquet of stone fruit, herbs and spices, also tobacco, balanced and still youthful texture, acidity and tannin in balance, elegant finish. Excellent with cooked beef." Vinum

"Intense, rich ruby red. Restrained nose, only hesitantly reveals some smoke and red berries. Well-balanced and juicy on the palate, harmonious and well-balanced in the attack and course, dark fruit, tightly woven tannin gives decent pressure in the finale." Falstaff

"A classic Vino Nobile di Montepulciano with a rather subtle nose of red cherries with hints of plum cake and spice. Ripe and quite rich, but with some delicacy and plenty of dry tannins." James Suckling

"Boscarelli's new single-vineyard expression offers a pristine and unobstructed view into Tuscany's Sangiovese grape as interpreted in a warm and sunny vintage. Luca de Ferrari and his family always make some of the purest and most elegant expressions from this Tuscan appellation. The pretty 2015 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Costa Grande is redolent of wild berry, cherry, pressed violets and fragrant moist earth. You feel the density and richness of the vintage, however the wine is linear, smooth and silky all the while." Robert Parker

"Made entirely with Sangiovese, this offers enticing aromas of exotic spice, ripe black-skinned fruit, tilled soil, French oak and a whiff of leather. The full-bodied palate boasts structure, elegance and tension, delivering juicy wild cherry, raspberry, star anise and espresso set against firm fine-grained tannins." About the winemakers
    Poderi Boscarelli
    Tuscany | Montepulciano
    Poderi Boscarelli

The Genoese Egidio Corradi had the idea at the beginning of the 1960s to revive the Vino Nobile and to produce a wine worthy of the great name. While Poderi Boscarelli's first own wine production in 1967 consisted of just 2,000 bottles, today the Nobile alone accounts for around half of the total output of around 100,000 bottles. With the same enthusiasm for viticulture and an equally great love for Tuscany as the founder of the estate, Paola de Ferrari Corradi, Egidio's daughter, and her two sons Nicolò and Luca continue the work in the family business today. While Nicolò, who originally wanted to become an architect, primarily takes care of the vineyards and the cellar, Luca is mainly responsible for the operative business and the interaction. The small estate is located in Cervognano, picturesquely between Montepulciano and Valdichiana, on a hill about 300 meters high and is probably the best address for Sangiovese wines in the entire Montepulciano area.

In the vineyards cultivated uncompromisingly by the winegrowing family, the slopes planted with vines face southeast towards Valdichiana. On permeable alluvial soils, consisting of sand, gravel and sea sediments as well as a little clay, four other autochthonous grape varieties thrive in addition to the outstanding Tuscan parade variety (80 percent share) with Canaiolo, Colorino, Malvasia Nera and Mammolo. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah round off the red wine portfolio as international varieties. After the replanting of the vineyards was completed at the end of the 1980s, the average density in the vineyards was between 6,000 and 7,000 vines per hectare. The yield per vine is deliberately kept low at 1.5 kilograms of grapes.

Wild yeasts from our own vineyards are used for vinification. The ageing of the wines takes place temperature-controlled mostly in small oak barrels. The Vino Nobile from Poderi Boscarelli convince with a very high stylistic consistency. They are elegant and distinguished by finesse. The landowners have a poetic formula ready for their most important plants: the Nobile speaks, the Riserva calls, the Nocio whispers. The quality of the other wines from the company advised by oenologist Maurizio Castelli is also convincing. The following applies to all wines: in their youth often bulky and closed, they elude the fashion dictate of fast enjoyment. In addition to the wines, the estate also distills a grappa made from Vino Nobile pomace and produces extra virgin olive oil. SUPERIORE.DE

"A cellar in which we constantly invest in improvements, local grapes and yeasts, wisdom and passion, these are the characteristics of the house, which can count on a large following among the friends of Tuscan wines."Gambero Rosso
