Etna Bianco DOC 2022
Davide Rosso's Etna Bianco from Contrada Montedolce is an energetic, fresh white that impressively emphasises its volcanic character with its mineral salinity. The bouquet begins elegantly with Sicilian flavours of orange blossom and sweet almonds, then opens up with fresh lemon, crushed apples and a hint of wet stone. Its medium concentration and crisp freshness will serve it well as it continues to develop in the bottle. SUPERIORE.DE
"Fresh and clean on the nose, dense and broad but with such clarity and juiciness - really lovely pink grapefruit, lemon and apple with crushed stone minerality and a hint of spice around the edges. The wine comes across as approachable and friendly, almost buttery, giving it a slightly thick texture. Round and forward, lots of life in this wine with lovely juicy acidity that really lifts the expression. Great stuff, chilled with seafood!" Decanter

From dense Barolo from Serralunga d'Alba to lively volcanic wines produced on the slopes of Mount Etna – the Giovanni Rosso winery undoubtedly offers an impressive variety. Powerful wines with a velvety structure and elegance are the hallmark of this Piedmontese family business.
Tucked away in the famous municipality of Serralunga d'Alba, the Rosso family has been cultivating its vineyards since the 1890s. Until the estate's namesake, Giovanni Rosso, decided to press his own wines in 1995, they had only been selling their grapes for a century. However, the success story only really got going when Giovanni's son Davide took over the business as head Oenologist in 2011. The then 21-year-old had previously studied in Burgundy and worked there at prestigious wineries such as Domaine Jean Grivot and Domaine Denis Mortet. There, he learnt above all how to produce quality wines that reflect the growing region in the glass and defined his current guiding principle: "Every wine must be the perfect copy of its terroir".
It is not without reason that the estate owns some of the most sought-after vineyards in the Langhe: La Serra, Broglio, Damiano and Serano are historic single vineyard sites that were documented as early as 1694. In addition, the Rosso family even owns a plot in the legendary Barolo vineyard Vigna Rionda, with whose wines the name Giovanni Rosso achieved international recognition.
Fascinated by unique terroirs, Davide also expanded into one of the most sought-after wine-growing regions on the other side of Italy in 2016. His small Sicilian winery Montedolce is located in Solicchiata in Castiglione di Sicilia. On the north-eastern slopes of lava-spewing Mount Etna, he acquired a 14-hectare vineyard parcel, six hectares of which are now planted with old vines.
Here, Davide cultivates the white grape variety Carricante and the black berry Nerello according to local traditions and his terroir-orientated motto. In order to guarantee the highest level of quality, nature-friendly cultivation methods and the avoidance of chemical fertilisers and pesticides are also a must in Sicily. From year to year, Davide succeeds in letting his wines speak for themselves, bringing a little piece of Piedmont and Sicily into our wine glasses. SUPERIORE.DE
