Miele di millefiori - Wildflower Honey (BIO)
Il Borro | Tuscany
This honey is truly unique, valuable and very rare (and of course BIO certified). Millefiori represents the components of the landscape in its purest form of craftsmanship. Amber. Medium fruity fragrance. In the taste beguilingly sweet, but also wild, smelling of lovage, with hints of liquorice and oriental spices. A real rarity with addiction potential and in BIO quality. Note: Store in a cool, dry place away from light.

“Borrigiano” Rosso Valdarno di Sopra DOC 2019 (BIO)
Borrigiano is a charming cuvée that brings an ideal balance of fine and coordinated use of wood and fresh, lively fruit to the glass. On the nose, an interesting berry aroma and some plum confit. For us, Borrigiano is an ideal companion for convivial evenings and mild pasta dishes or risottos - it shows the great potential of the up-and-coming winery in an amiable (and affordable) way. “Lamelle” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2022 (BIO)
Light straw yellow. Characteristic aromas of Chardonnay: bright, tropical fruit, plus some apple, melon and pear. Full and round on the palate with invigorating acid wire and a delicate nutty/mineral note on the medium-long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A fresh and bright chardonnay with sliced green apples and lemon blossom. It’s medium- to full-bodied with nice fruit and a crisp finish. Lime zest." James Suckling

“Petruna Anfora” Sangiovese Toscana IGT 2017 (BIO)
Just like the equally famous neighbour Fattoria Petrolo (with his Boggina A), Il Borro can also convince us with a red wine aged in amphorae. Petruna is a pure Sangiovese, fermented in hermetically sealed amphorae with skin contact for 12 months. The result is surprising, not in the sense of an "interesting" experimental wine, but because the typical character of Sangiovese is fully expressed in freshness, fruit and energy. The bouquet is dominated by cherry and small red berries, along with some orange zest. His body is of medium weight, which makes him an excellent eating companion. Its fresh acidity and an array of fine tannins increase the drinking pleasure enormously. Experiment succeeded in an elegant way, we can say. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, bright ruby. Very fragrant, open nose, floral, after violets, pomegranate, blood oranges, rhubarb, delicate white pepper. On the palate with lots of fruit and plenty of juice, fine texture, lively on the tongue, medium to slender body, well balanced, enjoys enormous flow, powerful tannin in the aftertaste." Falstaff
"Bright and fresh with cherries, watermelon and orange peel. Light body. Fine tannins and crisp acidity. A pure, single vineyard sangiovese made in amphora." James Suckling
"My reaction to this wine is overwhelmingly positive. This is a pure expression of organic Sangiovese that is farmed with extreme care, down to one kilogram of fruit per plant. The grapes are fermented in clay amphorae with daily punch-downs. The clay vessels are then sealed with steel lids, and the wine is left in contact with the skins for 12 months. The results are offbeat and provocative for sure, but the wine pleases the senses thanks to its grape-skin purity and firm mid-weight texture. The freshness and energy of the fruit comes through loud and clear, and you don't feel the heat of the vintage whatsoever. I give it my thumbs up." Wine Advocate

"The 2018 Valdarno di Sopra Petruna Sangiovese in Anfora is fresh and vibrant in the glass, with a wild display of zesty red berries, sweet spice and peppery herbs. On the palate, soft textures are firmed up by brisk acids, ushering in notes of raspberry and cherry, while tugging at the cheeks with grippy tannins, yet still so lively. The finish is medium in length with a salty twang of minerality, as inner florals slowly taper off. This 100% Sangiovese is aged in Anfora and really shows the worth of this revitalized yet ancient technique of winemaking. Very nice." Vinous
"This is another exciting wine from Il Borro that is now back in the Valdarno di Sopra appellation. The 2018 Valdarno di Sopra Sangiovese in Anfora Petruna is the Ferragamo family's amphorae-based wine, created as a way of showcasing the purity and sharpness of Sangiovese from this tiny, new and exciting appellation. This is a wine of character, showing the pure forest berry, bitter almond and earthy aromas that are associated with the grape. You also get some clay and terracotta from the hands-off winemaking process. You could pair this wine with a lasagna rich in cheese, because the acidity of the grape is ever-present to clean your palate." Wine Advocate
"Extremely floral with sweet cherries, as well as flowers and hints of mushrooms. Medium to full body with a lovely, creamy texture that seems so pinot noir-like. But this is sangiovese from a single vineyard, aged in amphora for one year. No wood here. Love the finish." James Suckling

“Il Borro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
The top wine of the eponymous winery presents itself exemplary and quasi as a reference for many other so-called Super Tuscans of the region. Deep ruby red with light red reflections. On the nose, dark fruits, spices, herbs, some leather and a fine tarry note. On the palate, the flavours then unfold powerfully and concentrated, yet it glides velvety with a wonderfully balanced acidity-tannin ratio into a rich, well-proportioned and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pressive attack with notes of wild berries and spices; combines character with elegance, the tannins fine-grained and interacting with the acidity, polish and length on the final." Vinum
"Fresh and floral with aromas of black cherry and lavender leading to a medium body with well integrated tannins that spread nicely across the palate. It becomes silky and beautiful. A hint of smoke and spice at the end. Crisp on the finish." James Suckling

"Dark ruby red. The nose has notes of cherries, sour cherries, strawberry jam, plums and a hint of mint. Rich, distinctive and full-bodied on the palate. Ripe and present tannin. Pleasant fruity and balsamic aftertaste." Falstaff
"A supple, almost opulent red, with a core of ripe raspberry and kirsch. Features floral, wild herb and iron notes that provide depth, and the firm structure keeps this buoyant and well-defined. Reveals hints of vanilla that leave a spicy impression on the long finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Il Borro 20th Annata takes things to a richer, darker and slightly more confectionery place, as its bouquet opens with cherry sauce, sage and dark chocolate notes, all offset by a lifting hint of mint. It's undeniably elegant, full-bodied and silky in feel, with polished red and blue fruits contrasted by grippy tannins that mount with each passing sip. Violet and lavender nuances combine with a bitter tinge of balsamic spice that lingers as the 2018 finishes structured and long. There's a sensual feel to this vintage of Il Borro, yet patience will be required to enjoy it fully." Vinous
"The wine shows the mint and spice of Merlot and Syrah, respectively, and the structure of Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2018 vintage shows rich concentration and bright freshness. It had 18 months of oak to add supple softness." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of blackberries, tar and bark. Complex. Full-bodied with ultra-fine tannins that spread across the palate. Fresh and vivid. Beautiful to drink now, but will be even better in three or four years." James Suckling

“Alessandro dal Borro” Syrah Toscana IGT 2016 (BIO) · MAGNUM in gift box
We have known that the still relatively unknown Valdarno region near Arezzo produces great wines since Galatrona and Torrione (Fattoria Petrolo) at the latest. However, one immediately thinks of Sangiovese, or at best Cabernet Sauvignon or Merlot. From a small vineyard, however, the Ferragamos only vinify a single-varietal Syrah in the really good years, which is then consistently only sold in magnum bottles to the hand-picked specialised trade or the top gastronomy.
Expressive bouquet of blackberries, pepper and chocolaty notes. It is fleshy, juicy and impresses with a very present fruit. Full and round, well textured and flanked by wonderfully defined tannins, Alessandro dal Borro leads into a great finish. High expectable ageing potential, not only because of the 1.5l large format. SUPERIORE.DE
"The most vivid note of tangerine that I’ve ever encountered gives way to masses of red plum, currants and cocoa as the 2016 Syrah Alessandro dal Borro blossoms in the glass. It flows across the palate like weighted silk, seamless and elegant, as a wave of tart berries and mineral tones add traction offset by a sour citrus twang. The 2016 impresses further, finishing dramatically long and spicy, with gently grippy tannins that curl the tongue. Blackberry and salted licorice notes linger on and on. The Alessandro dal Borro is only bottled in magnums, which should help it along its steady path to maturity. This is a beautifully balanced and well-tailored Tuscan Syrah." Vinous
"This is a really pretty syrah with plenty of blackberry, tar and black-tea aromas with subtle aromas of spices like clove and black pepper. It’s full-bodied, yet layered and open with beautiful fruit and fine, creamy tannins. Subtle and intense. Beautiful finish. Drinkable now, but needs two or three years to show its excellence." An organic vineyard. A Relais & Chateaux luxury resort. A horse stud. Chianina cattle. Vegetable specialities. Zero-emissions project. An entire medieval village restored. All that is true.
It all began when Ferruccio Ferragamo, president of the billion-dollar fashion clan, fell in love with a medieval village, first rented it and finally bought it. That was in 1993 and the starting signal for a showcase project of superlatives.
One hour southeast of Florence, near Arezzo. A village around a fortification from the Middle Ages. Eventful history with famous noble families. Once the Medici went hunting here, later it belonged to the Hohenlohes, the House of Savoy and finally to the Duke of Aosta. In 1997 Ferruccio Ferragamo acquired it and entrusted its management to his son Salvatore, who retired from the fashion empire and "followed his desire to start from scratch, to be a pioneer and not stay in the finished nest".
Organic farming and viticulture, original restored medieval ambience, fine olive oil and wellness spa. The attraction of progress: Salvatore wants to create a zero-emission world with complete energetic self-sufficiency. What has been created and restored here in the last twenty years could fill a book. But let's stick to wine. Because this chapter is also exciting.
The original wine cellar is probably one of the oldest preserved in Tuscany. Magnificently renovated and equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the electricity comes from its own photovoltaic hill. 2004 was completed with a newly built part.
Old vineyards were carefully restructured and from the mid-1990s soils were analysed and new vineyards planned and planted. The rootstock vines, clones and grape varieties as well as the orientation were selected analytically for the respective sites. Nothing was left to chance. In addition to autochthonous grape varieties such as Sangiovese, the classic varieties Merlot, Cabernet and a little Petit Verdot were also cultivated. In 2003, "Il Borro", the first wine, came onto the market. In the following year the "Pian di Nova", which should be understood as a second wine, as in the Bordeaux system. The conversion to organic farming began in 2007 avoiding chemicals and adding horn manure and was completed in 2012. In 2015 Il Borro received the organic certification.
The vineyards are located in the hills of Valdarno, at the foot of the Pratomagno mountains, in the basin of a former lake. A mixture of sand, loam and clay, rather barren but with good drainage, offers the vines a good condition to root deeply. The climate is relatively mild, even in winter, the nearby mountains provide good ventilation. In the meantime 85 hectares are in the yield, on 300 to 500 m above sea level. The grapes are harvested by hand, destemmed and macerated in steel vats, and aged for a relatively long time in French wooden barrels. The aim, of course, is to maximise the terroir and the fruit. Recently, the first wines aged in terracotta amphoras have been introduced to the market.
Almost needless to say, Il Borro is a luxurious place to stay and dine. The vineyards can be explored on horseback. Or get married right here. If the Ferragamos do anything, it's perfect. This also applies to the wines, which in recent years have found their way into all guides around the world with high scores. It is good that this will then be achieved along with some biodynamic practices, conservation of resources and energy self-sufficiency. SUPERIORE.DE
