“Montefili” Rosato Toscana IGT 2020
Swilling the glass reveals ripe strawberries, melon, sweet white smoke and hints of peach, which deepen further. On the palate, impressively soft textures balance ripe fruit, lively acids and minerals. The long finish is energetic and characterised by citrus fruits and flowers. This Rosato made from 100% Sangiovese is like a bed of fresh roses and is a delight from start to finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Rosato Montefili blossoms in the glass with a bouquet of sweet melon and rose. It gains in volume and depth over time, evolving to show ripe strawberries and nuances of mint. This is soft, almost fleshy in feel, yet balance is nicely maintained by bright acids and minerals, giving way to spiced red fruits and hints of citrus, and tapering off with persistence to notes of licorice and medicinal cherry. The Montefili is a fully satisfying glass of Sangiovese Rosato." Vinous

“Montefili” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017
The Sangiovese and Cabernet Franc grapes for this very drinkable, juicy Rosso come from sites in Montefili and Panzano. The grapes are vinified separately: the Cabernet Franc in small Litersbarrels (tonneaux), the Sangiovese in larger 2,000-litre wooden barrels. Montefili Rosso is a very harmonious red with character, finesse-rich and fresh on the palate, with a beautiful melt and respectable depth. SUPERIORE.DE

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017
The Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is made from 100% Sangiovese, the grapes come from vineyards with the best sites. The Gran Selezione with its dark ruby red colour is impressive in the glass. The nose is explosive with small ripe berries, hints of rose petals, lavender and thyme. Warm and full on the palate, spicy and very authentic. This wine is reminiscent of the Greve in Chianti sub-region with cool afternoon winds blowing over wild and largely wooded areas. This is what Tuscany tastes like! SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense ruby with a fine garnet rim. Opens with notes of dried cherries and tomatoes, seems a bit restrained. On the palate much accentuated acidity, shows fresh, crisp cherry fruit, some rough tannin." Falstaff
"Approachable for its fluid texture, this red is austere in flavor, displaying cherry, almond and tobacco flavors. Firm, with fine length and a resonant, racy finish." Wine Spectator
"Very floral on the nose with lavender and lilacs, as well as black cherries. Medium-bodied with tight tannins and tangy acidity. Flavorful finish. It’s linear, driven and lightly chewy. Very typical." James Suckling
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione is positively stellar. Cedar, rose petal, pipe tobacco, anise, blood orange and new leather give the 2017 striking aromatic presence to balance the natural richness of the year. Statuesque and resonant in the glass, the Gran Selezione is a real standout - a true winner." Vinous

Chianti Classico DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
Montefili's Chianti Classico is refined and captivating. Black and sour cherries, tobacco, smoked meat and dried tomatoes play around the nose. On the palate, it is firm, deep and marches purposefully with its blue-black fruits, spices, new leather, liquorice and dark spices into an intense and rich final. The ultra-fine tannins complete the overall picture of a most remarkable Chianti Classico. SUPERIORE.DE
"Impenetrable crimson - seems to herald lots of new oak. Deep rich cherry fruit with hints of apple peel and notes of new oak. Bags of tangy cherry fruit that is a little mouth-watering and a rich layer of sandy tannins. Full-on but irresistible although the new-oak load seems to speed up its evolution." Jancis Robinson
"A savory nose, driven by roasted herbs with red and black cherries as well. Saline-mineral palate with fine, firm tannins. Dried flowers come through." James Suckling
"The 2018 Chianti Classico is fabulous. Rich, deep and wonderfully expansive, the 2018 is captivating from the very first taste. A rush of blue/blackish fruit, spice, new leather, licorice and dark spice saturates the palate. In 2018, the Chianti Classico is deep and especially concentrated, but it all works so well. Readers will find a wine of uncommon power, intensity and richness. The 2018 is a big wine, there is no question about it, and yet the 15% alcohol is not especially evident." Vinous

“Bruno di Rocca” Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2017
Bruno is the second top wine from Vecchie Terre di Montefili and an almost single-varietal Cabernet that impressively underlines its Tuscan origins in a rich garnet red. Restrained on the nose, it initially only gently reveals dark berries and light spicy tones. Then we discover herbal accents, blackberry, crushed rock and liquorice, which reveal more of its Tuscan identity with every sip. Voluminous and fresh on the velvety palate, the acidity and tannin still crisp when young, with good tension and mineral-salty components as it progresses, underlining its complexity and making this sophisticated drinking pleasure unforgettable. Be sure to aerate! SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, deep dark ruby with violet glints. Opens with notes of cedar and pencil, then dark berry fruit, some dark chocolate. Emphasises fresh, crisp fruit, lots of juicy dark currant, grippy tannin that builds nicely towards the finish." Falstaff
"A firm, linear red, offering black cherry, black currant, wild rosemary and earth flavors, fused to a base of chalky tannins that leave a dusty sensation on the finish. High-strung and focused, this needs time." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Bruno di Rocca, 80% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Sangiovese, is more accurately described as a wine of the property, first and foremost. Cabernet is felt in strong, savory and earthy accents in the aromatics, but there is plenty of Sangiovese energy too. Blackberry jam, gravel, spice, menthol and licorice take on a very distinctive Tuscan personality. The tannins could use time to soften. This is impressive, to say the least." Vinous

“Anfiteatro” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017
Barely 4,000 bottles are produced each year from the magical Anfiteatro, named after the historic vineyard of the same name, which was planted back in 1975. 100% Sangiovese, from high Galestro soils, make up this masterpiece, which impresses every year and which, along with Flaccianello and Cepparello, can place itself in the first rank of the super-Sangiovese of central Tuscany.
Ruby red with garnet reflections. Initially cool and distinguished on the nose, it only gradually reveals its differentiated aromas of cedar, dried berries, pepper and grilled herbs. On the palate, firm pressure, the primary aromas clear and nuanced, then mint, liquorice and crushed pepper as the drink continues. Anfiteatro is a real top wine and delights with its distinctive beauty and finesse, its polished tannins and an overall picture that only a single-varietal Sangiovese is capable of producing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling ruby with a dark core. Opens on the nose with slightly malty notes, of black bread crust, plus earthy components, of dried porcini mushrooms and red beet. On the palate then lots of juicy fruit, fresh and crisp, also shows good tension, finely meshed tannin in the back." Falstaff
"Wild juniper, thyme, blackberry, black currant, mineral and tar flavors are the themes in this red, along with a resinous note from the oak. Racy, concentrated, solidly built and in the end, complex, if on the unforgiving side today." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Anfiteatro, 100% Sangiovese, is another stellar wine in this range from Montefili. It shows the magical mix of aromatic and savory intensity, with all the density that is such a house signature. Cedar, sweet pipe tobacco, dried herbs, mint and licorice meld together in a wine of remarkable beauty, pedigree and character. This 2017 is positively stellar. In a word: dazzling." Vinous

On the hill of Montefili you are at an altitude of 500 metres, right in the heart of the picturesque Chianti Classico area. The vines planted here enjoy not only a stunning panorama but also a special terroir with numerous hours of sunshine and refined Galestro and Alberese soils, for which the area of the "Gallo Nero" is so sought after.
The textile family Acuti laid the foundation stone of these vineyards in 1975 when they founded the Vecchie Terre di Montefili winery. To this day, the twelve and a half hectares consist mainly of Sangiovese vines. Six years after the foundation, they also ventured into the punk viticulture of the 70s with a handful of French Cabernet Sauvignon vines to complete the portfolio with legendary Supertuscan wines.
The template for the winery's logo - two cypress trees standing side by side - really exists and can be found on the entrance gate of the historic winery. Vecchie Terre di Montefili passed into the ownership of Nicola Marzovilla, Frank Bynum and Tom Peck Jr. in 2015, enabling them to realise their long-awaited dream of a joint winery. The subsequent meeting with the young oenologist Serena Gusmeri proved to be the missing icing on the cake that would complete Montefili's ambitious project.
"Our winemaking does not follow a recipe. We let each vintage become a voyage of discovery, determined by the respective growing conditions," says the small but fine boutique winery. From the Rosato to the Rosso and the Chianti Classico to the Supertuscans, only medium to large barrels made of neutral wood are used to age the wines, which perfectly bring out the character of the grape varieties and the terroir.
The concentration and storability of the wines come from the grape material itself and not from tricks or manipulations undertaken during the winemaking process in the cellar. The young, intuitive winemaker ensures that the wines are not "fiddled with" unnecessarily. The health of the vines and the impact of viticulture on the ecosystem are top priorities. The motto is: "We want to make sure that we give more back to this place than we could ever take away from it", and together they share the belief that every single move must be made with respect for the environment.
Accordingly, on a forward-looking path, they strive every year to produce the very best wines from the Chianti Classico region, which, with a multi-faceted bouquet and a fresh, velvety core, trigger a unique sense of well-being with every sip. In this winery, only what you actually want to find in the glass is processed. SUPERIORE.DE
