    About the winemakers
    Peter Zemmer
    Trentino-South Tyrol
    Peter Zemmer

In the village of Kurtinig (Cortina sulla strada del vino) in the South Tyrolean lowlands near the river Adige, with only 650 souls, German is mostly spoken. Here, where winegrowing has always had great economic and social significance, is the home of the Peter Zemmer winery. The winemaking team is made up of young, progressive people and trained wine specialists with many years of experience. The different locations, soils and microclimatic conditions allow the cultivation of a wide range of local and international varieties - from Vernatsch and Lagrein, Pinot Bianco and Gewürztraminer to Chardonnay, Sauvignon and Merlot.

Around 1,800 hours of sunshine per year, a favourable average temperature of 18 degrees during the growing season and a very favourable distribution of rainfall are reflected in a wide battery of bottles of distinctive and expressive quality wines with strong aromas, including two Spumanti. The loose soils of the farm, which is managed close to nature, consist of dolomite and limestone rock with glacial deposits of gravel, sand and loam. Since the ground is well ventilated and therefore easy to warm, the vines can develop ideally. Snowy winters provide high water reserves. In the hottest season of the year, the growing zone is characterised by large day-night temperature differences, which allow the grapes to retain their aroma.

The Peter Zemmer winery's electricity requirements are completely covered by renewable energy. Environmentally conscious vine care and soil cultivation as well as reduced yields in the vineyard are a matter of course for Helmuth Zemmer, who runs the family winery founded by his father in 1928 together with his wife and sons Peter and Günther. The successes achieved so far confirm the chosen path and are reflected in a number of national and international awards.

The heart of the Peter Zemmer winery, one of South Tyrol's leading wineries, is the new, exemplarily equipped wooden barrel cellar. In large and small barriques as well as in stainless steel, the most valuable and noble red and white drops mature there. Some of the grapes are supplied by selected winegrowers from the surrounding area who have been associated with the wine house on the South Tyrolean Wine Route for many years. SUPERIORE.DE

"For several years now Helmuth Zemmer has been managing his winery with a sure hand and keeping his wines at a high standard of quality."Gambero Rosso
