“Visadi” Dolcetto Langhe DOC 2021
The grapes come from the cru sites Ginestra, Mosconi and San Pietro, with about 10 rows planted outside the appellation boundaries (for this reason the wine is a Langhe Dolcetto and not a Dolcetto d'Alba). Beautifully detailed bouquet of rose gardens and lavender fields. The finish is lean, soft and silky with aromatic richness and abundant fruit. A wonderfully complex Dolcetto in the impeccable style of the house of Clerico. SUPERIORE.DE

“Trevigne” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2021
In contrast to the past, this full and fragrant Barbera is now aged to a greater percentage in large oak barrels - and less in barriques. This benefits the softness, fruitiness and suppleness of this beautiful wine. Tre Vigne means that the grapes come in equal parts from the top vineyards Mosconi, Ginestra and San Pietro. Deep dark ruby red. The bouquet has a fine scent of sour cherries and violets, the full and soft taste has a pleasantly fresh acidity that refines the long drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Domenico Clerico 2021 Barbera d'Alba Trevigne offers extra fruit weight with blackberry, dark plum and spice. Winemaker Oscar Arrivabene says this is a very good year for Barbera. The wine feels lavish and soft over the palate, to pair with cheese-filled pasta." Wine Advocate

“Capisme-e” Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2022
The grapes come exclusively from the single vineyard San Pietro, and since the 2018 vintage, part of the wine has been vinified in amphorae. Berries, liquorice and deep red fruits on the nose. Finely woven and very precise structure, personality and class on the palate. Sheer elegance and Clerico pleasure without waiting for further ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is a fun and informal wine with beautiful primary fruit reminiscent of wild berries and cassis. The Domenico Clerico 2022 Langhe Nebbiolo Capisme-e stands out for its brightness and freshness, which are easy to drink. This is all about transparency and energy." Wine Advocate

“Arte” Rosso Langhe DOC 2020
Strongly Nebbiolo-influenced variant of a Langhe Rosso and thus in the impression like a Barolo with the discreetly juicy and fruity component of the Barbera grape. On the nose some cherry and blueberry, then autumn leaves, walnuts and forest floor. Very soft and delicate on the palate, the polished tannins make it seem smoother and more accessible than the Nebbiolo dominance would suggest. A wine of great freshness and complexity, with good structure and made for a long life. SUPERIORE.DE
"A blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera aged in a combination of new and used barrique, the 2020 Langhe Arte is a plump and very generous wine, especially in this warm and sunny vintage. The wine style is modern, soft and extracted, showing full-bodied intensity with dark fruit, baking spice and cured tobacco." Wine Advocate

"The Domenico Clerico 2021 Langhe Arte offers a hybrid of flavors from the playlist of both Piedmont native grapes. Aged in new and neutral oak, the wine has the wild, delicate aromas of Nebbiolo along with the thicker fiber and black fruit aromas that come with Barbera. There is some sweet spice on the close and you get a lot of food-pairing versatility with this wine."

Barolo del Comune di Monforte d’Alba DOCG 2019
Clerico's Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba shows all the allure of which this high altitude site is capable and Domenico Clerico's team interprets this vintage with elegance and intensity. Sweet macerated cherry, mint, spices, orange peel and raspberries linger on the lingering, vibrant and agile finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Full of leafy lightness and focused on cherry pit and redcurrant fruit, the wine is precise and elegant rather than powerful, with almost crisp acidity and velvety tannins. The finish is a little grimmer, though not rustic." Decanter
"A bright and primary red with aromas and flavours of cut strawberries, citrus and stones. Medium body. Fine tannins and a fresh finish. Spicy. Crushed stones. Juicy and nicely chewy. Transparent. Drinkable after 2026." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barolo del Comune di Monforte d'Alba takes a few minutes to open before it delivers that combination of dark berry fruit and rusty mineral that gives this part of the appellation strength and structure." Wine Advocate

Barolo Ginestra “Pajana” DOCG 2018
Pajana - most modern wine of the entire Clerico range - presents itself closed, compressed and with great potential. Rich ruby with a light garnet rim. Compact nose, shows rich notes of blackberry, dark cherries, a little cinchona bark in the background. Explodes literally on the palate, lots of ripe, present fruit, then opens up with lots of fine-meshed tannin, salty depth, rich pressure. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling garnet red with ruby reflections. In the nose after pickled plums and pomegranate, in the reverberation forest strawberry, saffron and forest floor. On the palate tight and grippy tannin, deep and complex, well balanced, harmonious and elegant, final with rich fruit." Falstaff
"Clear, polished, fresh and quite tightly knit nose of mixed berries with a hint of cherries, floral nuances, slightly fleshy hints, nutty and very fine buttery aromas, Mediterranean herbs as well as some pepper and tar. Ripe, juicy, again polished and amazingly fresh fruit, moderate, delicately cocoa and coffee spicy, also a hint of smoky wood spice, fine, present, youthful tannin, persistent on the palate, good depth, a hint of liquorice, peppery ethereal traces, still undeveloped, increasingly mineral in the background, very good, firm, juicy and spicy finish. May mature." Wein-Plus
"Mid ruby with the beginning of orange tinges. Still youthful with leafy cherry notes and oak hints. With aeration minerally and earthy notes showing through. Supple fresh cherry and raspberry fruit with touches of oak and lots of powdery tannins gaining in weight on the finish. Very long and tannic and with great lift of fresh fruit." Jancis Robinson
"Rich, raspberry-coulis nose, adding mineral and bark aromas with air. But it all remains very contained. Medium-bodied palate with very fine, firm tannins and a tight finish. Super-clean with a very tight core for now. Give it time to expand. Try from 2024." James Suckling
"It's more approachable and less austere than usual but juicy, tasty and savoury - almost salty on the palate with intoxicating flavours of fruit and flower. Despite the graceful attack, the wine is then supported by a firm structure with slightly dusty tannins. Crisp acidity carries a camphor note to the persistent finish." Decanter
"The 2018 Barolo Ginestra Pajana shows a savory character with some delicate spice and smoke that is carefully folded into dark fruit, plum and earthy flower or iris root. Fruit comes from a site in the Ginestra MGA that was planted in 1971 with additional vines added in 1991. The wine shows excellent complexity and balanced intensity that is well-suited to long cellar aging." Wine Advocate

Barolo Ginestra “Ciabot Mentin” DOCG 2018
The great Barolo Ciabot Mentin Ginestra from the historic Clerico vineyard. Bright garnet red. Open-hearted bouquet of ripe fruit and spices, the elegant tannins are accompanied by a pleasant freshness in the complex taste, deep and long on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Clear, firm and deep, multi-layered, slightly juniper red and black berry scent with dried herb notes, some tobacco, dried rose petals, a little tobacco and mineral nuances. Ripe, dense, juicy fruit, some cocoa and coffee spicy wood, present, very fine tannin and some acid bite, smoky and dried meaty hints, a little leather, persistent, good depth, again distinct minerality, ethereal, mainly peppery and juniper spice, lots of power but also polish, very good to long, firm, juicy and spicy finish, again with polish." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby garnet, medium density. Appealing, intense nose with rich notes of raspberry, prune and peach, rhubarb in the background. Lots of fine-mesh tannin on the attack, coated in sweet melting, builds well, juicy fruit." Falstaff
"Great purity on the nose, with beautifully integrated oak and spicy-sweet cherry fruit. Compact, fruity palate with lots of juice and grainy tannins built like a house. Fantastic length, focus and energy." Jancis Robinson
"Super concentrated and super focused red berry and oak vanilla character on the nose. Medium-bodied with very fine, firm tannin. The deep, pristine core of fruit pushes through. Give it time to balance itself out." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Ginestra Ciabot Mentin from Domenico Clerico, one of Piedmont's iconic producers, offers stunning complexity with a fine mesh of aromas ranging from black and purple fruits to rusty nails, candied orange peel and liquorice. It culminates in a beautiful aromatic lift that comes in the form of dried mint and roasted anise." Wine Advocate

"The Pajana vineyard, planted between 1971 and 1991, is slightly lower than Ciabot Mentin and faces southeast. This 2019 is full of restraint: dill and liquorice are to the fore, then fresh violets and cherry with citrus freshness. It's firm and extracted, with powerful, dusty tannins and a refreshing acidity that balances the warming alcohol. It will develop well." Decanter
"The Domenico Clerico 2019 Barolo Ginestra Pajana shows a more open initial impression with soft black fruit. The wine makes a bigger impact in terms of texture with firm structure and silky tannins. It is just a little more open-knit and accessible." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of raspberries, cherries and orange peel lead into a medium to full body, with firm and very fine tannins that are chewy but fine-grained. The acidity is also strong. Try it after 2027." James Suckling
"Notes of wild plums and rhubarb on the nose, a hint of mint from the Aosta Valley, nutmeg notes on the finish. Dense, compact mouthfeel, salty-spicy tannins, finishes with a fruity-mental aftertaste." Luca Gardini

"The Domenico Clerico 2019 Barolo Ginestra Ciabot Mentin is a bit closed initially. This is a trait I found across a vintage that gives us good reason to bet on long bottle-aging potential. There is dark fruit and spice with licorice and grilled herb. Rusty mineral nuances also emerge slowly from the bouquet. This wine needs a double decant if consumed on the young side, but you're better off waiting. I came back to my open sample 24 hours later, and the wine was singing beautifully." Wine Advocate
"The Ciabot Mentin was planted in Ginestra in 1978, between 390 and 420 metres above sea level - relatively high for Barolo - but mostly with an easterly exposure, which increases the freshness and elegance of this wine. The 2019 is indeed cool, with a fresh violet scent, some meatiness and black cherry fruit, and an almost rosemary-like aromatic character. Its extreme youth is underlined by crisp acidity and supple, velvety tannins. A very precise wine, still complex and ripe, but also full of potential for the long haul." Decanter

Limitation of 1 articles per customerBarolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba “Aeroplanservaj” DOCG 2019 · MAGNUM in OWC
A beautiful, very sensual, feminine wine, vinified only in the best vintages. Exquisitely scented with dark fruits, elegant and fine on the palate with lots of fruit and long. It was named after the nickname once given to the young wild Clerico by his father: Aeroplan Servaj - wild plane. And the décor of the six bottles is just as wild and creative, but see for yourself! SUPERIORE.DE
"Aeroplanservaj" is a kind of futuristic label for the first Barolo produced in Serralunga by Domenico Clerico. Oscar Arrivabene, the winery's winemaker, explained that 10% of the oak barrels are used for ageing in barriques; this is more of a logistical decision than a stylistic one, since the plot in Serralunga is so small. The wine has hints of smoky woods, dried cherries, cinnamon spice and a heady violet note that permeates the structure. The attack is austere, not rustic, just wild and youthful. The tannins need taming at the moment, but it's a Serralunga full of detail and I'd bet it will age well." Decanter
"Aromas of cherries and plums with some fresh roses follow through to a medium body, with fine tannins and a fresh and clean finish. Bright and lively. Taut. Firm and structured." James Suckling
"The first Serralunga from the historic Monforte winery, bottled for the first time in 2006, comes from a beautiful family history. Notes of cranberry on the nose, nuances of peony, undergrowth and eucalyptus." Luca Gardini
"With its colorful fantasy label, the Domenico Clerico 2019 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj shows dark fruit and a velvety texture with rusty nail and pencil shaving. This vintage carries more overall concentration and structure, and the results are both rich and extremely beautiful. Fruit comes from vines planted in 1994. The wine ages in large oak casks mostly, with about 10% in barrique." Wine Advocate

"Quite polished red and somewhat black berry nose with nutty aromas, a little malt, dried herbs, black olives, chestnuts and tar. Ripe, tightly knit, partly preserved fruit with coffee and cocoa aromas, some smoky wood, chestnuts and malt, present yet ripe and friable tannins, lots of power and substance, some molasses in the background, cedary hints, a little tobacco and tar, still undeveloped, lots of power and substance, distinct wood spice, a little peppery and waxy notes, good depth, salt in the background, very good, firm finish." Wein-Plus
"Bright ruby garnet with brightening rim. Smells of dark raspberries, rose petals and blackberries, plus some tobacco. Substantial and dense in the attack, shows a lot of sweet melting, dark fruit, nice juiciness and length in the final." Falstaff
"At first quite a bit of sweet oak on the nose. Supple, generous and succulent palate with plenty of chewy tannins adding tactile fireworks to the finish. Modernist, no doubt, but done with huge skill." Jancis Robinson
"Tight nose with a fine bead of ripe berries that are enveloped in a mildly spicy, vanilla coating. Some smoky, charcoal-like nuances add interest. Medium-bodied with a very silky palate and fine, powdery tannins that are starting to sink in. Compact and displaying quality. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"From the vineyard of the same name (Aeroplanservaj) in the Baudana Cru. A beautiful family history, the first experience in Serralunga for the historic winery of Monforte, bottled for the first time in 2006. Notes of wild blueberry on the nose, with nuances of gardenia and eucalyptus. The mouthfeel has savory-salty tannins, with a fruity return and officinal sensations." Luca Gardini
"Showing nice softness and ample fruit weight, the 2018 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj is a bold and contemporary expression of Nebbiolo with dark fruit, cured tobacco, candied orange peel, rusty nail and ferrous earth. Fruit is sourced from the Baudana MGA in Serralunga d'Alba with vines planted in 1994. The tannins are plush and rich, and this beautiful collectors' bottle awards you with multilayered complexity and depth." Wine Advocate

"Nobody can imagine today how poverty-stricken we were here in the sixties," Domenico Clerico often told, also about hunger in his childhood. At first he didn't want to take over his father's farm, because he earned more by trading olive oil. Only when the "modernists" around Elio Altare, Enrico Scavino, Giorgio Rivetti, Marco Parusso and Angelo Gaja returned from abroad with their ideas, did he change his mind. And became the most radical modernist of the young savages in Piedmont.
In 1976 he took over two hectares of vines and two hectares of peach trees from his father and asked him for support if he would switch completely to viticulture. In a document from the takeover of the farm he noted: "...the land on which we live has a value that we have not yet fully understood...".
It was so typical of Domenico Clerico. Because he was the first to use the most modern cellar technology, such as Roto-fermenters - a kind of agitator for fermentation tanks - which is why his wines always turned out a little darker and his tannins a little softer and silkier and fermented much faster. They were therefore also ready for sale earlier. At that time this was definitely an advantage.
A brain tumor forced him to have surgery. Barely fit again, he began building his new basement, a state-of-the-art million-dollar project. But he himself was back in the vineyard, tending and cultivating his vines. Little by little he purchased about 21 hectares, practically all of them in the best Barolo locations, such as Bussia, Ginestra, Pajana or Mosconi.
His top Barolo "Percristina" reminds us of his daughter who died young. The Barolo "Ciabot Mentin" to the former owner of the Lage Ginestra. The new Barolo "Aeroplanservaj" is named after what Domenico's father had called the lively rascal: "Wild Airplane". Somehow Domenico always remained that rascal. Mischievous and humorous. And so it was with the labels. Since he liked all the designs of a Florentine artist, Servaj's Aeroplan is only available in a wooden box of six with all the designs, each bottle adorned with a different label. These artist boxes have been very popular with collectors for years.
Early on Clerico exported to America, some vintages almost complete. As creator of the cult wine "Arte", a cuvée of Nebbiolo and Barbera, and its more accessible Barolo specialities, he was the star winemaker there. Today, the Domenico Clerico winery exports around 80% to the USA. This leaves just 5% for Germany. For its powerful, substantial Barolo, which accounts for about half of the total production, but also for its excellent "Barbera d'Alba Trevigne", the internationally highly respected winery receives high ratings from wine critics every year.
It was always the land, it was always Barolo that fascinated him, and until shortly before his death in 2017 he was to be found in his vineyards. He left the "business", as he called it, in good time to his team around his wife Giuliana and Luciano Racca, his right hand. In the meantime his two nephews have also been integrated into the business. SUPERIORE.DE
