• "Visadi" Dolcetto Langhe DOC 2017

      “Visadi” Dolcetto Langhe DOC 2017

Fragrantly fresh and cuddly, aromatic fullness and abundant fruit. A splendid Dolcetto in the impeccable style of the Clerico house. SUPERIORE.DE

"This 2017 Langhe Dolcetto Visadì is an against-the-grain presentation that aims to show what this variety can achieve. The fruit represents a blend of various sites, with some adding structure (Mosconi and San Pietro) and Ginestra adding elegance. Five days of maceration tempers the naturally rustic side of the grape. The result is an easygoing and imminently drinkable expression that is nicely fruity and perfumed. It's a very fresh and bright Dolcetto that would pair perfectly with any simple pasta and meat sauce combination." Robert Parker

    • "Trevigne" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2016

      “Trevigne” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2016

Unlike before, this full and fragrant Barbera is now aged to a greater percentage in large oak barrels - and less in barriques. This is to the advantage of the softness, fruitiness and suppleness of this wonderful wine. Tre Vigne means that the grapes come equally from the top vineyards of Mosconi, Ginestra and San Pietro. Deep dark ruby red. In the bouquet fine smell of sour cherries and violets, in the full and soft taste a pleasantly fresh acidity, which refines the long drinking pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"This was an easy growing season for Barbera in general, and the additional time in wood (80% in tonneaux and 20% in barrique) for the 2016 Barbera d'Alba Trevigne has beautifully intensified this wine. Bold cherry and blue notes of dried forest berry appear on the nose along with pleasant spice and tobacco. Compared to this estate's 2015 Barbera, this vintage shows deeper aromas, with less acidity on the tongue and more ripeness and fruitiness to fill the palate. Try it with the Piedmont favorite of agnolotti and meat roast sauce." Robert Parker

"This is very lively and delicious with dark fruit, orange peel and a hint of chocolate. Medium to full body, tangy acidity and a flavorful finish." James Suckling

      “Capisme-e” Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2017

Impressive the Langhe Nebbiolo Capisme-e. In the bouquet berries, liquorice and deep red fruits. Super structure, personality and class on the palate. Sheer elegance and Clerico enjoyment without waiting for further maturation. superiore.de

"This entry-level Nebbiolo offers rich density and an accessible style that makes the wine immediately attractive and delicious. There is plenty of dark fruit but no over-ripeness, even in this hot vintage. This is not a wine of imposing structure, and in fact, it offers a soft and fruit-filled finish." Robert Parker

    • "Arte" Rosso Langhe DOC 2016

      “Arte” Rosso Langhe DOC 2016

Strongly Nebbiolo embossed variant of a Langhe Rosso and thus in the impression like a Barolo with the discreet juicy and fruity component of the Barbera grape. In the bouquet some cherry and blueberry, then autumn leaves and forest soil. Very soft and delicate to the touch, the polished tannins make it appear smoother and more accessible than the Nebbiolo dominance would suggest. A wine of great freshness and complexity, with good structure and made for a long life. SUPERIORE.DE

"Beautiful aromas of dark berries, and hints of dark chocolate and some bark. Medium-to full-bodied and tight and focused with taut tannins, pretty fruit and a walnut aftertaste." James Suckling

"This blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera has always been made the same way: It is aged for one year in barrique and always in new oak. In fact, you could say the style veers more toward the so-called "super Tuscan" side of the spectrum rather than that of a traditional Langhe. The 2016 Langhe Arte shows beautiful tones of tobacco and spice with plenty of black, luscious fruit at its core." Robert Parker

    • Barolo DOCG 2015

      Barolo DOCG 2015

Fruits of the forest in the bouquet, in addition ink, tobacco and gentian. The juicy, full taste is supported by velvety tannins of very low astringency and undergoes a great development in the glass that is already inspiring today. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, living ruby. In the nose noble wood, liquorice and blackberries, a hint of icing sugar. On the palate red cranberries, juicy acidity, covered with powerful tannin, noticeable wood, discreet drying." Falstaff

"Tasted blind. Lustrous mid ruby. Subdued but with a clear underlying concentration of fruit. Supple and succulent and well balanced. Attractive tannic bite on the long and generous finish, which ends a little racy." Jancis Robinson

"This young Barolo is really savory with dried-fruit, cedar and hot-stone character. Full-bodied, focused and intense. Very long and chewy finish." James Suckling

"This is an extremely elegant and graceful expression with classic Monforte d'Alba characteristics: The wine shows a tight and powerful inner core and the qualities (integrated acidity and tannins) for long cellar aging. You have everything in this one package." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Pajana" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Pajana” DOCG 2014

Pajana - the most modern wine of the entire Clerico range - presents itself closed, compressed and with great potential. Rich ruby with a light garnet edge. Compact nose, shows rich notes of blackberry, dark cherries, in the background some cinchona bark. Explodes formally on the palate, much ripe, present fruit, then opens with much fine-meshed tannin, salty depth, rich pressure. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous and concentrated ruby. A hint of sweet oak, but very closed on the nose. With aeration the purity of the fruit emerges. Very polished and elegant with fine grainy tannins and great acidity. Very long and elegant." Jancis Robinson

"The 2014 Barolo Pajana is a very pretty that balance the natural richness of this site with the more floral, savory notes that are typical of this cool, late-ripening vintage. Sweet red cherry fruit, rose petal, mint, sage and anise add attractive aromatic top notes. Time in the glass brings out redder tonalities of fruit, with shades of pomegranate, blood orange that lead into the super-expressive finish. This is very nicely done." Antonio Galloni

"Extremely floral and bright. Dried lavender and strawberries follow through to a full body with round and juicy tannins. Solid finish. This is structured and powerful." James Suckling

"The Pajana vineyard is known for its loose, sandy soils and red-colored earth, and the 2014 growing season brought cool and wet conditions. This cru is a nice, loyal expression of those Nebbiolo grapes. The 2014 Barolo Pajana is dark and thickly structured, and probably more accessible overall. This wine can be enjoyed in the medium-term, after five years (more or less) of cellar time." Robert Parker

Barolo “Aeroplan Servaj” DOCG 2006 · 6 Bottles/6 Labels in OWC

Aeroplan Servaj 2006 is the name of the new top Barolo from Clerico and is also his first Barolo from Serralunga. A beautiful, very sensual, feminine wine. Exquisite dark fruit fragrance, elegant and fine on the palate with plenty of fruit and long. It was named with the nickname that the young wild Clerico once got from his father: Aeroplan Servaj - wild plane. And the equipment of the bottles is just as wild and creative, but see for yourself! SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, rich ruby garnet. Open and accessible, first slightly raisiny notes, then full-bodied blackberries and dark, ripe cherries. It is a great wine on the palate, opens with a lot of dense, tight tannin, salty-mineral, in the finale beautiful plum notes." Falstaff

"Sweet strawberry, with dried mushrooms and cedar on the nose. Full body, with lots of new wood and ripe fruit. A little austere but a beautiful wine with intense fruit and power. A new wine from Clerico from a small new vineyard in Serralunga." James Suckling

"The 2007 Barolo Aeroplan Servaj is plush, rich and voluminous, all qualities that are typical of the year. Dark red cherries, mocha, flowers and spices are woven together beautifully in this soft (for Barolo), sensual wine. Silky tannins frame the rich, seamless finish. The 2007 probably won’t be a long-term ager, but my guess is most bottles will have long been enjoyed before that is an issue." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Domenico Clerico
    Piedmont
    Domenico Clerico

"Nobody can imagine today how poor we were here in the sixties," Domenico Clerico often said, also about hunger in his childhood. At first he did not want to take over his father's farm, because he earned more with the trade of olive oil. Only when the "modernists" around Elio Altare, Enrico Scavino, Giorgio Rivetti, Marco Parusso and Angelo Gaja returned with their ideas from abroad did he think differently. And became the most radical modernist of the young savages in Piedmont.

In 1976 he took over two hectares of vines and two hectares of peach trees from his father and asked him for support if he would switch completely to viticulture. In a document on the takeover of the farm, he noted: '... the land on which we live has a value which we have not yet fully grasped...'.

It was always the land, it was always Barolo who fascinated him, and until shortly before his early death in 2017 he was to be found in his vineyards. The "business", as he called it, he left to his team around his wife Giuliana and Luciano Racca, his "right hand". In the meantime, his two nephews have also been integrated into the company.

It was so typical of Domenico Clerico. He was the first to use the latest cellar technology, such as Roto fermenters - a kind of stirrer for fermentation tanks - which is why his wines were always darker and his tannins softer and silkier and fermented much faster. They were therefore also ready for sale earlier. It was an advantage then.

A brain tumor forced him into surgery. Hardly fit again, he started building his new cellar, a state-of-the-art million-euro project. But he himself was again in the vineyard and nursed and tended his vines. He gradually acquired around 23 hectares, practically all in the best Barolo locations, such as Bussia, Ginestra, Pajana or Mosconi.

His top barolo "Percristina" reminds of his daughter who died young. The Barolo "Ciabot Mentin" to the former owner of the site Ginestra. The new Barolo "Aeroplanservaj" is called, as Domenico's father had called the lively rascal: "Wild Airplane". Somehow Domenico was always this rascal. Mischievous and humorous. That's how it was with the labels. Since he liked all the designs of a Florentine artist, Aeroplan Servaj is only available in a wooden box of six with all the designs, each bottle is decorated with a different label. These artist boxes have been very popular with collectors for years.

Already early Clerico exported to America, some vintage almost completely. As the creator of the cult wine "Arte", a cuvée of Nebbiolo and Barbera, and his more accessible Barolo specialities, he was the star winemaker there. Today, the Domenico Clerico winery exports around 80% to the USA. For Germany, only 5% remains. For its powerful, substantial Barolo, which accounts for about half of the total production, but also for its outstanding "Barbera d'Alba Trevigne", the internationally renowned winery receives high ratings from wine critics every year.
