“Ginestreto” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020
Light ruby. Rich bouquet of red cherry, strawberry, chocolate and violet. Generous and lively on the palate of rhubarb strawberry pie and sour cherry, the fruit beautifully concentrated and full. The nobly woven tannin structure leads this multi-layered and very serious Sangiovese into a delightful, mineral finish. Every year, Fuligni creates a wine that is outstanding for the appellation, a brilliant crossover between tradition and modernity in terms of style. SUPERIORE.DE
"Lustrous mid ruby. Balsamic, lifted nose with hints of exotic spice and iron. Gorgeous, elegant, lifted raspberry and cherry fruit with lots of juice but with a medium-bodied feel. Juicy finish with a nice tannic bite and perfumed red fruit with touches of oak." Jancis Robinson
"Totally unique yet seductive, the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino Ginestreto wafts up with a wild mix of ginger spiced cookie, sour cherries, zests of tangerine and violets. This is a seductress on the palate, silky and supple, with a pretty inner sweetness and mineral-tinged red berries that add a more tactile feel toward the close. Purple and blue-toned inner florals resonate throughout, as the 2020 finishes with a gentle tug of tannin and a staining of wild berry preserves that keep me looking back to the glass for more." Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Sweet red berries, flowers, mint, spices and aniseed are uniquely interwoven in this generous wine. The wine gains volume and depth in the glass as the flavours build to an unprecedented crescendo. This is an exceptionally well-balanced and finessed Brunello full of character and originality. The tannins remain firm, but there is enough density and complexity of fruit that opening a bottle even at a young age gives no cause for regret. SUPERIORE.DE
"Tart, quite deep, nutty and somewhat tobacco aroma of predominantly dark fruits with dried floral nuances and moderate wood spice. Firmly woven, concentrated, tangy fruit with nutty wood aromas, a hint of toast, tobacco and some cocoa, dried vegetal nuances in the background, a hint of pepper, game, some sandy, still slightly drying tannin, has power, good persistence, noticeable bite, certain depth, still completely undeveloped, very good, firm, again tangy and spicy, also slightly tobacco. Definitely needs to mature." Wein-Plus
"Developing deep ruby. Perfumed red fruit that rises up from the glass like a cloud. Sappy, concentrated cherry fruit that is still embryonic. Bags of gravelly tannins masterfully kept in check by the fruit. Very long and focused, and deserves more time in the bottle." Jancis Robinson
"This has aromas of camphor, cedar and oak-driven spice. On the tight, rather assertive palate, a backbone of fine-grained tannins underscore dried cherry, prune, licorice and tobacco." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is punchy and spry from the first tilt of the glass, featuring raspberry, roses, licorice and hints of flowery undergrowth. The bouquet darkens over time, taking on shades of cedar, along with blue and purple flowers. It’s silky, pliant and savory, masses of black cherry and spice filling the palate with silky textures that leave saturating minerals in their wake. This tapers off long, dry and primary, perfumed with violets and lavender, as cheek-puckering, tart red berries linger on. The 2017 may be a riper interpretation of Fuligni Brunello, but it has enough power and energy to be quite pleasurable and balanced over the medium term. All of the Riserva juice from 2017 went into the estate Brunello." Vinous
"The Fuligni 2017 Brunello di Montalcino is a beautiful wine, and it shines a much-deserved spotlight on one of the most consistent estates in Montalcino. It is bright and luminous with a dark ruby shine. The bouquet reveals deeply layered tones of red cherry, wild berry, rose, earth and candied violets. Give the wine an extra twirl or two, and you get some rosemary and lavender. Soft dusty mineral and limestone also appear. I'd definitely put this bottle on a short list of the most recommended bottles from the 2017 vintage." Wine Advocate
"Plenty of complexity to this, with cherry, plum, blackberry and hints of cedar and stone. Full-bodied with layered, velvety tannins and a flavorful finish. Punctuated and defined for the 2017 vintage. Drinkable now, but better after 2023." James Suckling
"Fuligni’s beautiful interpretation of a Brunello is very muscular, but never excessive. Nose of black currant and rhubarb, with touches of pepper leaf in the finish. Salty tannins, mouth of density and crunchiness, with long persistence. Finish with spicy return and small fruits." Luca Gardini

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2018
The already very well-balanced and classic 2018 vintage can gain again with Fuligni, because no Riserva was produced. Ruby red with orange reflections. On the nose, after some aeration, ripe morello cherries, violets, roses and lots of Mediterranean scrub. Powerful on the palate, the silky tannins give it elegance and the necessary balance, its complexity comes to the fore with every sip. This very authentic and strongly focused Brunello can be counted among the best of the vintage, its wonderfully balanced proportions and its juiciness will give it further impetus in the coming years. SUPERIORE.DE
"Clear, quite firm, a touch floral aroma of ripe red and also black berries with nutty aromas, a little tobacco, cigar ash, dried herbs and dried meat. Firmly woven, tart and juicy, quite noble fruit, present, fine, youthful tannin, some acid bite, peppery and ethereal herbal nuances on the palate, persistent, good depth, salt in the background, a little cocoa and coffee, complex, still undeveloped but already impressive, has tension and finesse, very good, tight finish with coffee notes and ethereal, also slightly resinous spice." Wein-Plus
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby with a broad garnet rim. Very fragrant and inviting nose, shows lots of fresh fruit, of fresh plum and cherry, fine herbal spice in the background. Compact and present in attack and course, shows itself very balanced and clear, very well integrated tannin, spreads out in long waves, nice juiciness in the drink." Falstaff
"Medium to deep ruby red with orange reflections. There is a kinship with the Rosso 2020 in the oak notes, but here it is a bit more complex and less exotic. Iron, cherry, raspberry with complex oak notes in the background. Cardamom and cumin. A good mouthful of juicy red fruits with fine but persistent tannins. Refreshing, transparent and elegant. Quite amazing balance and lovely bite." Jancis Robinson
"It takes quite a while for the 2018 Brunello di Montalcino to open in the glass. A cloud of white smoke gives way to a sweet-smelling blend of dried roses, sugared cherries and a hint of exotic spices. This is a round and supple 2018 that conveys elegance through its velvety texture, polished ripe red fruits and cascading florals of violets. The 2018 is opulent but also has the acidity to keep it balanced, as it finishes long with classically refined tannins but leaves the palate perfectly poised for another sip. Honestly, it's hard to put this glass down. No Riserva will be produced in 2018, so all the juice has been used to support this open and seductive Brunello." Vinous
"A fine Brunello with aromas and flavours of black cherries, hazelnuts and chocolate. Very perfumed. Medium body with a nice texture and delicious finish. Nice, fine tannins. Not the best structured red wine, but it will improve with age and is a wonderful treat right now." James Suckling
"The Fuligni 2018 Brunello di Montalcino stands out for its supple integration of aromas and the carefully balanced intensity achieved here, which shows verve but also remains very fine and nuanced. The bouquet is multi-layered and reminiscent of wild fruits, cassis, rock gravel, candied oranges and fresh herbs or rosemary. A floral note also emerges, reminiscent of rose or orris root. The tannins are very well integrated and silky. You hardly feel them, and yet the wine has a firm structure throughout." Wine Advocate
"An elegant, succulent red marked by a beam of pure cherry and rose hip flavors. Beautifully balanced, between the fruit, acidity, tannins and texture, with accents of earth, tobacco and wild herbs adding detail. The long finish indicates fine potential." Wine Spectator
"Under the direction of Maria Flora Fuligni since 1971, along with her long-time right-hand woman Dr Daniela Perino - now CEO of the winery - Fuligni is one of the denomination's most consistent performers. The 2018 does not disappoint: it embodies the elegance of the vintage. The nose is a captivating synthesis of flowers and earth, exuding pressed violets, lavender and roses with accents of truffle and tobacco. In the mouth, it unfolds with flavour rather than weight or power. Redcurrants and oranges are enhanced by piercing acidity, and the shapely, gorgeously textured tannins are chalky and appropriately cushioned, adding layers and depth. This wine, which is not beyond its capacity, will drink beautifully over the next decade." Decanter
The Fuligni winery offers an "evergreen" at its best with this version of the traditional-style Brunello. Blackcurrant and juniper on the nose, with a hint of pepper leaf on the finish. Brackish and taut tannins on the palate, fruity-officinal return on the finish." Luca Gardini

“Joanni” Merlot Toscana IGT 2019
Merlots of this quality are really only known from central Tuscany. And when one of the best Brunello producers cultivates a small parcel of Merlot and does not bottle a single-varietal Supertuscan just for fun, one has to be more than alert. The serious experiment has paid off: Joanni is a rich and multilayered red wine that offers aromas of currants and blackberries with hints of dark chocolate and vanilla beans. With further aeration, dark plums, blueberry pie, dark spices and vanilla reveal themselves. It is full-bodied and juicy - yet never overloaded - with tangy acidity, round tannins and a flavourful, very buoyant finish. Wow, we can hardly wait for further bottle ageing ... SUPERIORE.DE

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012 · MAGNUM in OWC
On the nose, small red berries, spices and a certain herbal spiciness. Literally explodes on the palate with a clearly defined mix of raspberry, liquorice, cherry fruit and some cinnamon. Finely granulated tannin and an almost endless depth round off the excellent overall impression. One of the best Brunello Riserva of the vintage. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, rich garnet red. Shows pronounced spicy notes on the nose, of cardamom, allspice and cinnamon, then opens with beautiful raspberry. Hearty and gripping on the palate, fine ripe fruit, then unfolds with dense tannin, builds well, but seems a little rough and drying on the final, still needs time." Falstaff
"Bright and juicy, this is packed with cherry, strawberry, floral and mineral aromas and flavors. Linear in shape and tightly wound, yet very pure, with a long, detailed aftertaste that pulls all the elements together." Wine Spectator
"From the moment you put your nose into the bouquet, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva gives off heat, ripe fruit and power. Brunello from this warm vintage tends to be bold, muscular and emphatic, and this wine definitely supports that claim. Black cherry, prune and plum at the core are surrounded by soft oak spice and cinnamon." Wine Advocate
"Mid ruby with narrow orange rim. Alluring cherry nose with minerally notes. Gorgeous intensity and length, the fruit streamlined with sappy acidity and fine, long tannins. Lots of class. Will give lots of pleasure for years to come." Jancis Robinson
"Enticing scents of iris, violet, perfumed berry and cake spice mingle with whiffs of balsamic and menthol. Full in body, but boasting a weightless elegance, the palate delivers juicy wild cherry, raspberry preserve, cinnamon and licorice. Taut, polished tannins provide structure and finesse while fresh acidity keeps it balanced." Wine Enthusiast
"There's a very complex and fresh nose with elegant red cherries, spices and light herbal nuances. Smells very fresh. The palate has beautiful focus and depth with effortless rich dark and red cherries cast amid perfectly proportioned silk-smooth tannins. Long and so focused, the finish is superb." James Suckling
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is finessed in the glass, perfumed with nuances of violet and rose, as hints of fresh plum and dried sage evolve over time. This floods the palate with textures like pure silk, washing masses of savory red berries and spices across a balanced core of saline-tinged acidity. A tart twang of sour cherry and hints of citrus electrify the finale, as smooth tannins add a gentle grip, and hints of licorice slowly taper off. The 2012 is a gentle giant with the balance to mature beautifully for years to come; but that said, there’s no shame in checking in on it now; just make sure to let it breathe to unlock its charming bouquet." Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC
Fulignis Brunello Riserva from a balanced vintage opens with a bouquet of wild berries, almonds, grilled rosemary, balsamic herb and cassis. As always the elegant style of this family business, which is awarded every year, is immediately identifiable. Today, after good ventilation, it presents itself rich, complex, with beautiful freshness and a precise tannin structure and indicates at least 20 years of maturing potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, rich garnet red. Very dense and appealing nose, full of raspberry, rose petals and cherry jam. Very present on the palate, juicy and with a fine tannin, it rolls over the palate with a long aftertaste of ripe cherries." Falstaff
"Mid ruby. Lifted dark-fruit nose. Really ripe yet tangy and with lovely chewy tannins supporting the fruit. Powerful, yet not overpowering." Jancis Robinson
"A dense, muscular version, this red boasts cherry, currant, tobacco, iron and wild herb aromas and flavors. Bright and juicy, with fine balance and a refreshing finish." Wine Spectator
"Luminous deep red. Steely aromas and flavors of redcurrant, cranberry cocktail, and sour red cherry are complicated by cinnamon and minerals, while lifted by a bright violet topnote. Fresh, precise and focused, with harmonious lively acidity providing outstanding clarity and cut extending the flavors nicely on the long, suave, refined finish." Ian d'Agata
"Initially closed and shy, the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva needs a little extra time in the glass before it starts to shine. The wine is made according to a very classic blueprint that prizes delicate primary fruit freshness, fully integrated tannins (nudged forward by Slavonian oak casks) and bright acidity. Fruit for this wine is sourced from 20-year-old vines that deliver the added extract and concentration worthy of a Riserva expression. This wine is impeccably balanced and radiant. It drinks beautifully straight out of the gate, however, it has the natural DNA to assure a graceful aging future." Wine Advocate
"Very intense aromas of ripe dark fruit with plums and cherries, intermingled with aged meat, warm stones and sweet, dried-wood nuances. The concentrated palate has a suave and plush core with tannins building in impressive layers to hold a long, flavorful finish." James Suckling
"Rose, wild berry, camphor and a whiff of exotic spice float out of the glass along with a hint of new leather. Radiant and loaded with finesse, the taut, elegantly structured palate delivers juicy red cherry, strawberry compote, baking spice and licorice while fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity provide balance and support." At the beginning of the 20th century, Giovanni Maria Fuligni settled in Montalcino, following the example of his Venetian family, to cultivate wine. Founded by Maria Flora Fuligni, the estate is now managed by her nephew Roberto Guerrini Fuligni. The pretty winery is located in the countryside of the village of Cottimelli and extends over about 100 hectares. Ten hectares are planted at 380 to 450 meters altitude with vines. The ground is tonearm poor and therefore quite loose. Further vines were planted on areas later added to the estate, which today are on average twelve years old. In the older plantations, which have been in existence for more than three decades, the Fuligni family had used old Sangiovese clones at lower stock density.
The vineyards named S. Giovanni, Il Piano, Ginestreto and La Bandita are harvested separately. The grapes are then selected according to the different types of wine. The wine cellar at Cottimelli, about three kilometres from Montalcino in the direction of Siena, is located in a residence still used in the 18th century by the Grand Dukes of the House of Medici. In fact, however, it dates back to the 16th century. Under the earth's surface, tonneaus are stored in volumes of five and seven and a half hectolitres, but also in Slavonian oak barrels which are several times larger. In the cellars of the Medici Palace, which also serves as the headquarters of the winery, the famous Brunello, the Rosso and the IGT San Jacopo mature.
Roberto Guerrini Fuligni shares with some of his winemaking colleagues not only a passion for excellent wines, but also a pronounced love for music, which he places, for example, in the context of noble Tuscan red wines. The musical appearances, which began as a private meeting among friends and were even allowed to fill a concert break at the Salzburg Festival in 1999, have been extended in recent years due to the great success.
