Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2017 (BIO)
The grapes for Chiara Boschis' Via Nuova come from selected sites in the three districts of Commune di Barolo, Monforte d'Alba and Serralunga d'Alba. Delicate, slightly minty bouquet of medicinal herbs, wild berries and wild cherry. Powerful on the palate, with a lot of structure and elegance. A very impressive Barolo, which perfectly performs the balancing act between tradition and modernity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Radiant, sparkling ruby red. In the nose with a clear barrel note, light spicy tones, ripe strawberries, raspberries, in the reverberation also slightly of dried flowers. Clear and radiant on the palate, opens on pithy, grippy tannin, slightly consuming in the finish." Falstaff
"This classic wine represents a traditional blend of sites including Barolo (Terlo and Liste), Monforte d'Alba (Ravera and Mosconi) and Serralunga d'Alba (Gabutti and Baudana). The organic E Pira-Chiara Boschis 2017 Barolo Via Nuova reveals ripe cherry and raspberry that greet you with a bright, fruit-forward bouquet. I feel the hot-vintage fruit ripeness more in this release than I did in the smaller releases of Mosconi or Cannubi. The wine is slender and elegant in terms of mouthfeel, with a good, polished feel and some subtle bite from the tannins on the close. There are some grassy notes and a spicy point of crushed black pepper as well." Wine Advocate
"An expressive nose of rose, cherry, strawberry and eucalyptus doubles down on the palate, while the dense structure lends support. This red is balanced and long, with excellent intensity and freshness." Wine Spectator
"The 2017 Barolo Via Nuova is stellar. In 2017, the Via Nuova is a bit nervous, the sign of a Barolo that is going to need a number of years to unwind. Bright red-toned fruit, chalk, crushed rocks, mint and white pepper add pretty aromatic top notes. As always, the Via Nuova is the most taut Barolo in the range." Vinous
"Gorgeous aromas of dried flowers and strawberries with some cherries and hints of iron. Full-bodied. Chewy and creamy-textured at the same time. Attractive berry and walnut aftertaste." James Suckling

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2018 (BIO)
The cru sites Liste, Terlo, Baudana, Gabutti, Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi are the origins of the grapes for the terrificVia Nuova. It is a monumental, exciting wine that combines the best that the vintage had to offer. Explosive in the glass, with breathtaking aromatic depth, it is stunningly beautiful from the first sip. Dark macerated cherry, lavender, spice, menthol and rose petals are enhanced by the underlying acidity and tannin that give the wine its energy and drive. Via Nuova is a wine of exceptional harmony, purity and finesse with an everlasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Shiny, lightening garnet red, light rim. Exceedingly fragrant nose of fresh roses, lots of raspberry and strawberry, a little candyfloss. Polished, finely meshed tannin, red berry fruit, tobacco on the final." Falstaff
"Fascinating aromatic complexity that keeps your nose hovering over the glass. Raspberries with ginger biscuits, flowers and a twist of basil. There’s a deeper layer of crushed goji berries and talc-like minerals, too. Full, intense, silky and dainty with well-integrated tannins that even add a chocolatey touch. So tempting to drink now, but better from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is marked by palpable brightness and tension that lend energy. Like all of these wines, the 2018 is restrained in feel, but all the elements are so well balanced. Freshly cut flowers, mint, crushed rocks, chalk and white pepper give the Via Nuova notable energy. Intense veins of supporting tannin and minerality provide the backbone." Vinous
"This is an organic blend of fruit from six MGA sites: Terlo and Liste (in Barolo), Ravera di Monforte and Mosconi (in Monforte d’Alba) and Gabutti and Baudana (in Serralunga d’Alba). The 2018 Barolo Via Nuova is fermented in steel and aged in oak according to time-tested local tradition. This mid-weight blended Barolo has a more prominent herbal or balsam signature at the back of red and purple fruits, licorice and pressed violet." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Mosconi” DOCG 2017 (BIO)
Barolo from the Mosconi single vineyard of the same name presents itself powerful, muscular and full of opulence. Richly shining ruby red. Rich scent of eucalyptus, wild rosemary, plum and black cherry. Deep and powerful on the palate with beautiful spicy accents, dense tannin and very juicy structure. For us, this Barolo belongs to the top class of the appellation, it carries its great weight with elegance and is at the same time highly authentic, completely in the style of Chiara Boschis, who has delivered something really great here again! SUPERIORE.DE
"Elegantly shining ruby red. In the nose first after noble wood use, then dried rose petals, wild strawberries, raspberries, in the reverberation a breath vanilla and cream. Tightly woven and profound on the palate, opens up in many layers, pithy and with pressure, still young, shows potential." Falstaff
"Made with organically grown clones of Michel and Lampia, the E Pira-Chiara Boschis 2017 Barolo Mosconi softly presents bright berry aromas, raspberry, wild cherry, crushed limestone and delicate floral tones of lilacs and violets. Like other wines from this hot vintage, this expression from the Mosconi cru in Monforte d'Alba has that unique floral signature that is precious and unexpected. The wine shows great depth and balance with a pretty intensity that spreads over the palate." Wine Advocate
"The 2017 Barolo Mosconi is a powerful, brooding wine. Black cherry, gravel, dried herbs, scorched earth, spice and leather add to an impression of gravitas. This is an especially somber, potent Barolo that needs time to soften. Even so, it will always be a brute. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty. The Barolo Mosconi emerges from the estates oldest vines, which are 70-80 years old, and is aged in barrique." Vinous
"Very fresh, sweet raspberries with some floral undertones follow through to a full body with fine, creamy tannins that flow long and linear through the middle of the palate." James Suckling
"Cherry and plum fruit flavors are accented by vanilla, toast, hay, white pepper and tar notes in this expressive, solidly built Barolo, which is fluid, with a dense matrix of tannins shoring up the long finish, showing fine complexity, balance and length." Wine Spectator

Barolo “Mosconi” DOCG 2018 (BIO)
The vivacious Chiara Boschis has been a rather modernist Barolo winemaker for over 25 years, although she now uses much less new oak than in the past. She is best known for her Cannubi, but her Mosconi, from 1 ha of this top vineyard in Monforte d'Alba, can be just as good in some vintages.
Medium to deep crimson. Very nice nose of earthy, complex cherry and blackberry fruit with subtle oak notes and a hint of pine. On the palate juicy and smooth red fruit, very concentrated. Delicious, crisp tannins. It is a plump, full-bodied and very concentrated wine that is assertive and youthful when young - but in balance. It is darker and fruitier than most classic Barolos, yet always structured, complex, taut and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, dark garnet with light rim. Very fragrant nose of wild raspberry, dark cherry, plum, clove and some cinnamon. Full and substantial on the palate, opens up with lots of hearty, grippy tannin, nice melting core, of raspberry and tobacco, long finish." Falstaff
"Plenty of tense, wild-strawberry character to this with bright minerals, too. Medium-bodied with a punchy core of bright fruit, tight tannins and a tense, crystalline finish. Needs time to even out. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Mosconi shows all the gravitas and natural darkness of this site, but in miniature. Black cherry, plum, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks and incense fill out the layers. There is plenty of Mosconi muscle, even if the volume of the best years isn't there." Vinous
"This red puts it all together—macerated cherry and plum fruit, a silky texture, vibrant structure and elegance—without sacrificing power or harmony. Complex and long, with a haunting finish that provides rose, menthol, licorice and iron accents." Wine Spectator
"Chiara Boschis has recently purchased more vineyards in the Mosconi cru located at a cool 370 meters in elevation in Monforte d'Alba. This is terrific news for those who love the focus and precision that Chiara Boschis is known for. The Mosconi carries generous fruit weight and volume over a streamlined mouthfeel and tight tannins. The wine ends with fresh notes of blackberry, plum and wild rose." Wine Advocate
"The wine is quite a dense ruby colour in the glass, with restrained forest floor scents and whiffs of rosemary, chocolate and wild red fruits. Filigreed and complex, the palate has a delicate attack, firm tannins and good density, with flavours of tar and plenty of violet and pomegranate. Biting and still austere but softened by the French barriques - where the wine ages for two years." Decanter

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2019 (BIO)

Via Nuova is a wine of exceptional harmony, purity and finesse with an everlasting finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Concentrated medium ruby. A bit more oak on the nose and a bit more extensive than the Cannubi and with great depth. Complex note of new leather from the oak. Lots of everything on the palate with lively acidity and fragrant, ripe fruit. Long, chalky tannins give firm grip to the juicy finish." Jancis Robinson
"A racy and fine-tannined Barolo with a fresh underlying acid backbone and orange peel undertones. It’s vivid and medium-bodied with fine tannins and a crisp finish. Give this three or four years to come together." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barolo Via Nuova is a blend of fruit from different sites in several villages of the appellation. The wine is immediately open and beautiful, showing dark fruit, cherry, spice, blue flowers and floral earth. The healthy fruit in this vintage shows an almost crisp quality." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Barolo Via Nuova is another great wine in this tasting. In its aromatic intensity, the 2019 is high and wide, it has it all. The blend of seven sites works so well. harvestwill find a seamless, wonderfully complete Barolo. Dried flowers, herbs, mint, rose petals, cherry and orange peel give it remarkable complexity. The 2019 is deep and also quite rich, but not at all heavy. There is a hint of oak sweetness, but that only adds to the exotic beauty of the wine." Vinous
"A Barolo of great interest, velvety and elegant. On the nose, notes of sour cherries, a touch of undergrowth and lightly smoked, complemented by balsamic notes and black pepper. On the palate, fruity and smoky notes reappear, with a balsamic and spicy finish." Luca Gardini

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarolo Cannubi DOCG 2018 (BIO)
Barolo Cannubi is a great wine that highlights the classic beauty of Nebbiolo. This wine is like a statue of a Greek goddess with perfect proportions and feminine aesthetics. The bouquet is complex, with bright fruits, white pepper, mint, orange peel and spicy liquorice. The tannins are polished and fine, with a hint of the characteristic limestone chalk that you sometimes taste in Cannubi. Lively acidity rounds out this extremely elegant, fresh and graceful wine. Very full-bodied and focused with great length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby with a pronounced garnet rim. Very appealing and intense nose of ripe, dark wild raspberries, dried plums, also some rhubarb and cranberry. Grippy, hearty tannin, opens up in many layers, lots of ripe, present fruit, firm pressure and fine melting on the final." Falstaff
"Cool, sweet red fruit and a touch of minty oak. Fresh, gentle and juicy red fruit with elegant tannins that gently stick to the palate. Everything is elegant about this wine." Jancis Robinson
"The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is soft, open-knit and gracious, as wines from this vintage tend to be. Silky contours and pliant fruit add to its appeal and overall immediacy. The 2018 is a real charmer. It's understated personality will be easy to appreciate upon release. Sweet red cherry, cinnamon, mint, cedar and dried rose petal linger nicely, with pretty sweet floral notes that continue to open over time." Vinous
"Deep and seductive on the nose and palate with crushed red berries and a soft mineral base. Full-bodied with very silky tannins that are already melded into the wine. More linear, drinkable quality to this in 2018. Compact and delicious even now, but better with another year in bottle." James Suckling
"Elegant and seamless for such a young red, exhibiting rose, cherry, mint, menthol and mineral flavors. Firm yet balanced and long, with echoes of cherry and menthol on the saline finish." Wine Spectator
"The E. Pira e Figli - Chiara Boschis 2018 Barolo Cannubi is a lovely wine with a classic playlist of true Nebbiolo aromas. This certified organic wine exhibits wild berry, rose, dried lilac and an earthy touch of white truffle. However, the floral aromas and the lifted fruit are the protagonists in this balanced expression. Chiara farms less than one hectare (just over 6,000 square meters) in the celebrated Cannubi MGA with ancient calcareous clay soils from the Miocene era. Production is limited to 3,594 bottles. This is one of the best wines of the vintage." Wine Advocate

It is darker and fruitier than most classic Barolos, yet always structured, complex, tight and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The aroma is a black-fruited-herbal composition; homogeneous in the mouth, the tannins close-meshed, the evolution with lots of character and a virile-complex berry finish. To accompany a game dish with truffles." Vinum
"Medium to deep crimson. Already irresistible on the nose with deep, intense fruit and a touch of complex oak. Still very youthful but with lots of juicy fruit and a thick layer of polished tannins. Endlessly long." Jancis Robinson
"Lots of spices and earth with dark berries on the nose. Full-bodied with fine and silky tannins and a long and flavorful finish with blackberries and cinnamon. Racy and silky texture at the finish. Best after 2026 but already a joy to taste." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barolo Mosconi is the strongest of the three Barolos in the range. It exudes Monforte darkness and virile intensity from the first sip. Black cherry, plum, mocha, sage, tar, lavender and spice give the 2019 plenty of character. This is one of the most elegant wines I've tasted from Mosconi, a site that is not naturally suited to finesse." Vinous
"Bottled under a full moon in August, the wine is impeccably balanced and bright with dark fruit, black cherry, spice and pencil traces. The wine's tannic structure is impressive, and you can count on Mosconi for long ageing potential." Wine Advocate

"Scents of fresh fruit, topped with notes of smoke and sandalwood; pithy palate, robust tannins, accentuated acidity, the finish promising." Vinum
"Delightful. Very beautiful nose of cherries and ripe raspberries with mineral, chalky notes and a hint of oatmeal, but always very subtle. Purity, elegance and fullness on the palate. Long, fresh, precise finish of raspberries with a long and fine tannin structure. Wonderful fragrance on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"A very refined yet structured Cannubi with fine tannins that spread across the palate. Medium bodied with lovely juicy fruit of plums, berries and cedar. Persistent finish with citrus notes in the aftertaste." James Suckling
"The 2019 Barolo Cannubi is simply stunning. Rich and beautifully structured, the 2019 shines from start to finish. Fresh cut flowers, mint, crushed red berry fruit, orange peel, salt and dried herbs are some of the many notes that grace this exquisite, beautifully nuanced Barolo from Chiara Boschis. Sweet floral and spicy overtones build on the finish. The precision of this Barolo is incredible. Barrel ageing works so well here. What a wine!" Vinous
"Last autumn I had the opportunity to hike the Cannubi vineyard with Chiara Boschis. You really don't get a feel for how steep the inclines are and how dusty the ground is until you are on site and struggling with each difficult step. It masters the difficult terrain effortlessly. The 2019 Barolo Cannubi shows an etched or three-dimensional quality with sharp fruit aromas, blue flower and chalky stone. There were some weather extremes during the growing season, but it all evened out in the end. Phenolic ripeness was easily achieved. Chiara Boschis describes the 2019 as a cross between 2016 and 2017." Wine Advocate
"A "blessed" vintage for one of the house's historic crus, a wine of density and crisp tension. Notes of cranberries on the nose, with hints of blood orange and liquorice root, with classic end mentholation. Salty, acidic tannins on the palate, with a fruity, mentholated finish." Luca Gardini

Barolo “Via Nuova” DOCG 2018 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC

After Luigi Pira's death, good advice was expensive because his sisters could not continue the traditional family business located in the middle of Barolo. But after about a year, the Piedmontese winery was then sold to Luigi's long-time friends, the Boschis family. The previous owner had already been a myth during his lifetime and was the last winemaker in Barolo who still mashed his grapes with his feet. When Chiara Boschis, a very young and energetic woman, took over the business from her parents in the 1980s, she quickly took up the achievements of the noble wine guards in the Langhe.
Chiara does her sometimes very hard work with great passion and attentively follows all phases between the vine and the bottling line. Over time, the winemaker has refined her wine style and developed it into a balanced harmony. Today, her growths are smoother and reach drinking maturity a little earlier. The wines are capable of ageing and convince with an unusual complexity and profundity over the years. In the magnificent wines of the E. Pira & Figli's magnificent vineyards, chemical substances are taboo in all plots. The grapes are always of the highest quality.
The intelligent, very knowledgeable and always friendly estate owner has joined the Piedmontese group "Langa in", which, among other things, has revolutionised Barolo through shorter mash fermentation and the use of barriques. When Chiara presents the in-house labels in public, she always appears very distinguished and eloquent to her interlocutors. But her attention is not only focused on the excellent wines. Together with a few other disciples, the winemaker also produces Castelmagno, the most famous type of cheese in Piedmont, which is much sought-after by gourmets.
E. Pira & Figli has carried the coveted "Robert Parker Green Emblem" since 2022. This certification is awarded by one of the most important international wine criticism media: "The Wine Advocate". Only producers who are committed to sustainability, long-term environmental protection and biodiversity receive this exclusive award. Once a winery has been awarded, all of its wines will bear the coveted "Green Emblem" in the future. SUPERIORE.DE
"It has set itself the goal of converting all 28 farmers who farm in the 46-hectare Cannubi MGA (perhaps the most prestigious site in the appellation) to organic farming. The project is called "Cannubi Biologico", or "Cannubi Bio". So far, 25 of the 28 winegrowers have joined it. Their goal is to make Cannubi a fully organic winery. "At the beginning it seemed like an impossible mission, but we are getting closer and closer to our goal," says Chiara Boschis from her winery in Barolo. "Sometimes a single drop of water can break a huge rock." Wine Advocate
"The range of site wines available is first class, from the highly renowned Cannubi to the interesting Via Nuova and Mosconi, which comes from a significant property in the commune of Monforte d'Alba." Gambero Rosso
