• "Al Passo" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

“Al Passo” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Al Passo is named after the small wood on the highest hill of Tolaini - a magical place with a breathtaking panorama of the landscape and the sunsets over the towers of Siena. As unique as the forest is the wine, which presents the natural affinity of Sangiovese and Merlot. Intense and enticing bouquet of ripe fruit and spicy oak notes, on the palate with ripe fruit and fresh acidity, balanced, medium body, long final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich garnet with ruby. Compact fruit, slightly candied, orange zest and pickled cherries, fine green spice. On the palate very drinkable, after elderberries, juicy, crisp, of medium weight, long salty aftertaste." Falstaff

"The 2016 Al Passo is bold and juicy, not to mention absolutely delicious. Fresh, vibrant and full of character, the 2016 hits all the right notes. Sangiovese red fruits are nicely pushed forward. Al Passo is such a pretty and inviting wine. I very much like the energy here. Bright aromatic top notes add a kick of energy on the finish." Vinous

"You'll find sturdy notes of tilled earth in the 2016 Al Passo, with lots of intensity and ripe fruit. It would make a nice pairing with a good old spaghetti al ragù. The wine is balanced and bright without too much concentration or heft. It feels very Tuscan. This is Tolaini's base wine and you get excellent value." Robert Parker

"Black currant fruit signals this supple red, focused by refined tannins and bright acidity. Cedar, iron and tobacco notes add depth as this winds down on the long finish." Wine Spectator

"A really endearing red that shows dried herbs, fresh blueberries, tobacco and cedar. Lithe and very tangy on the palate, which is medium-to full-bodied, elegant and dialed-in. The fine tannins add to a delicate but muscular impression on the medium-chewy finish." James Suckling

      “Vallenuova” Chianti Classico DOCG 2018

Chianti Classico Vallenuova has the potential to become a favourite wine. It is the archetypal expression of Sangiovese from a single vineyard, which could not be more typical and authentic. Lively, sparkling ruby, in the fragrance some cedar wood and small forest berries, in addition spices, beetroot and white pepper. On the palate leather, tobacco and a hint of citrus fruit, in the final it presents itself pleasantly slender with a convincing drinking freshness. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous deep ruby. Beguiling nose of concentrated sweet and spicy strawberry and cherry fruit with notes of cooked rhubarb and a hint of iron. Succulent and tangy strawberry and cherry on the palate with velvety tannins. An elegant, truly satisfying wine, and a much better deal than entry-level burgundy, for sure." Jancis Robinson

"Aromas of plums, cherries and hints of balsamic and citrus fruit follow through to a medium body, light tannins and a fresh finish with lively acidity." James Suckling

    • "Picconero" Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

      “Picconero” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Deep dark, impenetrable ruby with violet reflections. Opulent, warm bouquet of fully ripe cherries, plum, liquorice, young leather with a touch of French oak spice. On the palate it is powerful and firm, with a brilliant structure and firm tannins. With increasing aeration it reveals its good structure and distinguished elegance. Picconero never seems wide or too heavy until the long finish, but convinces completely with a terrific energy and complexity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep dark, rich garnet. Delicate graphite in the nose, smoky, then after ripe cassis, dark chocolate, blackberries, salt. Very balanced palate, discreetly noticeable use of wood, yet elegant, powerful, with lots of juice, full-bodied, put it away and enjoy it in five years." Falstaff

"Aromas of violets, lavender and blackberries follow through to a full body with firm and chewy tannins. A lot of wood showing now, but will come together with age. Try after 2021." James Suckling

"Packed with sweet, ripe blackberry and blueberry fruit, this red is lush and polished, accented by rosemary, thyme, graphite and oak spice notes. Dusty tannins line the finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2015 Picconero Tenuta Montebello is a blend of 65% Merlot and 35% Cabernet Franc that pours out lots of dark fruit and plum. This is a very nice, juicy and balanced wine with good thickness, a great match for iron steak and blue cheese butter sauce. In general, I've found these wines from Tolini to be top notch, with succulent tones of ripe fruit and pretty intensity. This one is at the top of the pyramid." Robert Parker

    About the winemakersTolainiTuscany | Chianti
    Tolaini

The story sounds adventurous and almost invented: As a young man Pier Luigi Tolaini emigrated to Canada to earn the necessary money for the foundation of a winery in Tuscany. After having done many odd jobs at first, the emigrant in North America became a powerful forwarder with a large fleet of vehicles. In 1998 the successful entrepreneur returned to his homeland and acquired the two estates San Giovanni and Montebello, situated between Pianella and Vagliagli near Castelnuovo Berardenga in the Chianti Classico area. Only two years later the winery was finished. Another two years passed before Pier Luigi was able to enjoy the first bottled wine. After a few stylistic adjustments, the Tolaini Winery now produces five high-quality wines.

The fact that the Patriot, who did not fit into any scheme, was quickly successful, can play in the league of the Supertoskaner and regularly receives high ratings from wine experts is due to the fact that he leaves nothing to chance with his team in the 50 hectare and very densely planted vineyards. Only the best grapes should find their way into the avant-garde cellar. Although the winery favours native grape varieties in Tuscany - above all the Sangiovese grape - he can also warm up for Bordeaux varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. Tolaini does not overestimate the use of wood for vinification. They primarily uses small barrels. The head oenologist and winery manager Francesco Rosi is assisted by Luca D'Attoma, a top-class consultant, for production.

Picconero, a cuvée of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, is one of Tolaini's top wines that has received many awards. The red wines Valdisanti and Al Passo also play in the upper wine league. For some years now, a Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from single vineyard and a beautiful "Entry chianti" the assortment. SUPERIORE.DE

"Meticulous care in the vineyard according to the Bordeaux model and little useless coercion in the cellar make Pier Luigi Tolaini's still rather young winery an important company in Chianti Classico."Gambero Rosso
