Arneis Roero DOCG 2021
Straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, a lovely floral nose with hints of peach and banana. On the palate, clear, fresh and pure with spicy aromas of lemon, tangerine and crushed rubble. Roero Arneis is also called Barolo Bianco, which is entirely true for this excellent white from Neive's noble forge. SUPERIORE.DE

Barbaresco DOCG 2018
In the 2018 vintage, Bruno Giacosa decided not to vinify any single vineyards, so here comes a special wine that combines the advantages of the Asili, Santo Stefano and Rabaja vineyards in a terrific way. Rose petals, sweet red berries and mint are some of the notes that flow towards us. The tannins are supple and silky and after a few minutes in the glass the wine reveals beautiful aromas of damp earth and black truffle. A wine full of harmony and class. SUPERIORE.DE

Barbaresco Asili DOCG 2017
This wine embodies the Piedmontese character: headstrong, persistent and silent, discreet and strong. Its colour is inviting ruby. Rich, elegant bouquet of berries and spices, initially reserved on the palate, then develops very balanced and smooth with precise structure, polished tannin and tight acidity. SUPERIORE.DE
"There’s impeccable transparency and freshness to this Barbaresco on the nose, which introduces bright rose petals, lifted orange peel, crushed stones and sour cherries. The stoney tannins trace intricate detail on the medium-to full-bodied palate, highlighting the racy acidity, brambly undertones and a beautiful array of wild berries. Yes, there’s power and depth of flavor, but this is all about grace and beauty." James Suckling

Barolo DOCG 2016
The grapes for Giacosa's Barolo 2016 come from selected sites in the Comune del Barolo and Serralunga d'Alba. Lush, rich nose with notes of rosewood, cherries and some campfire ash. On the palate a densely woven tannin, the fruit precise and with the same care as in the bouquet, multi-layered, with beautiful freshness and a filigree acidity framework, which provides an animating spiciness. Long and full on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A ripe style, delivering macerated plum, cherry, mineral and tea aromas and flavors allied to a steely structure, this is linear in profile, with vibrant acidity and a lingering aftertaste of sweet fruit." Wine Spectator
"The berry and tar character is already coming through clearly here. It shows readiness and focus. Full-bodied with firm, silky tannins and attractive orange-peel and spice notes, turning to flowers. Chewy, yet polished and pretty. This comes from the young vineyards on the estate." James Suckling

Barolo DOCG 2017
The grapes for the second vintage of Giacosa's Barolo come from selected vineyards of Serralunga d'Alba and a small part from the Comune di Barolo. It is accessible earlier than the Falletto, a little more powerful and punchy and no less charming. The grapes grow on mainly calcareous clay soils, which give the wine a cooler style at first sight. On the nose, dark fruits, spices, tar and lots of tangy licorice with a hint of anise. On the palate, these flavors join tightly woven wild berry fruit to create a fresh, juicy package whose harmony and complexity surprise us at a young age. The tannins are tightly woven, with a few years of bottle aging they will recede in favor of elegance and depth. SUPERIORE.DE

Barbaresco Rabaja DOCG 2016
Sparkling ruby, dense and compact nose of leather, lots of rose petals, dark, ripe cherries. Powerful and powerful on the palate, densely woven tannin, with all its power also beautiful elegance and great potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"The wine opens to beautiful richness, saturation and concentration. There is plenty of dark fruit and bright cherry with ample textural richness that is followed by sweet tannins and an attractively tight or firm structure. Saline or mineral notes give the wine sharpness and added dimension. It has all its cards in place for long aging, and the wine most certainly needs more time in the bottle." Robert Parker
"This is a very sexy, soft Barbaresco with chocolate, earth and pure fruit, from strawberries to cherries. Medium -o full-bodied with elegant tannins that give form to this wine. It's fine and lovely in the mouth. Exciting. A fine, granular-textured red. Drinkable now, but better in 2024." James Suckling

Barbaresco Rabaja DOCG 2017
Rabaja and Asili are probably the most famous sites in Barbaresco. Medium, finely fragrant nose of rose petals, cherries and blue blossoms, with restrained ethereal herbal notes. On the palate, powerful, compact and with a well-proportioned cornucopia of black fruits such as blackberry and cassis, plus some liquorice. As the wine progresses, it shows its power and a certain pressure, which, however, never comes across as wild or ostentatious, but always reflects the elegance of the site and the Giacosa-typical ageing in large wood. Impressive aroma and length! SUPERIORE.DE
"The Bruno Giacosa 2017 Barbaresco Rabajà is a fine and delicate wine that throws a curveball at our expectations of this notoriously hot and dry vintage. The wine is exceedingly generous when it comes to its fruit, especially its blackcurrant and plum, but what steals the show is that elegant mineral note that so seamlessly cedes to spice, licorice and cinnamon. Rabajà is one of the most distinctive growing sites in Barbaresco, thanks to its white stony soils that leave such a strong imprint on its wines. The wine is remarkable for its nicely linear and delicate style, but it ultimately proves its power and determination on the palate over many long minutes." Robert Parker

Barolo “Falletto” DOCG 2015
Sparkling ruby red with orange reflections. Perfumed, spicy nose with notes of dried fruit. With increasing ventilation more complex and finer. On the palate a wonderful dose of fine acidity, the fruit reveals itself in these days a few seconds later. Beautiful, tasty tannins. A wine that still needs some years of patience and leisure - but that's 100% worth the effort. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense and firmly structured, this red features a distinctive saltiness underlying the floral, cherry, mineral and tobacco flavors. A bit standoffish now, but all the components are in the right proportions." Wine Spectator
"Superb aromas of ripe fruit such as plums and berries with peaches and tar. Very intense. Full body, great depth and density. Incredible richness and power with superb length and persistence. One of the most dense and vertical Falletos I have tasted. Try in 2025." James Suckling

Barbaresco Asili DOCG 2019
The magnificent Asili 2019 opens with a dark, compact appearance and shows an impressive level of aromatic intensity and complexity. On the nose, enticing aromas of cherry, strawberry, eucalyptus, plus hints of orange peel, rose petals and pine. Full to medium-bodied on the palate, crushed raspberries, juicy red cherries, cinnamon and chopped herbs. The fresh acidity and its exquisite tannins provide a bright and distinctly elegant frame to this. This wine continues to grow beyond itself with every glass, its great class is already undisputed! SUPERIORE.DE
"Sweet and succulent aromas of tangerines, freshly cut ripe strawberries, cherries and flowers follow through to a full-bodied palate with sleek and dense tannins that run the length of the wine and then fan out into a dense, vivid finish of fruit. It’s chewy and seriously structured with finesse and energy. Silky texture. This needs at least four or five years to come together and open. Try after 2027." James Suckling

Barolo “Falletto” DOCG 2016
With the exceptional 2016 vintage, Falletto once again proves what this wine is capable of. Multi-layered bouquet with subtle sweetness, an inner fragrance and nuances that are generally only found in Giacosa's Red Label Riservas. The Falletto impresses with the intensity of its dark fruits and the excellent overall balance. The extroverted personality of the vintage is evident, especially when the wine meanders in the glass for some time left to its own devices. Menthol, flowers and liquorice give the wine refined complex notes on the finish. This is a particularly racy Barolo from Bruno Giacosa, which also has an impressive characteristic elegance! SUPERIORE.DE
"A massive wine from Serralunga, this displays dense cherry and red-fruit aromas that are solid and brooding. Full-bodied with firm tannins that are chunky now, this has immense concentration and force, if not the ethereal quality that marks Giacosa's supreme wines. But it's balanced, with the high alcohol not discernible, and given the slight furriness on the very long finish, this needs time." Decanter
"This pretty red offers distinctive mint, black tea, cherry, tar, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors. Firm and dry, with the tobacco and tea notes echoing on the finish. Shows plenty of finesse." Wine Spectator
"This is a really dense red with intensity and beauty, showing dried fruit, such as strawberries, as well as chocolate, tar, hazelnuts and meat. Really complex and rich. Opulent, yet tense with dusty tannins. Extremely long. Great finish. Hard not to drink now, but will age incredibly well. Try after 2025." James Suckling
"The Bruno Giacosa 2016 Barolo Falletto (white label) brings us another extraordinary expression from a classic vintage. Serralunga d'Alba fruit is full, generous and thickly layered in a manner that you always hope to encounter when lucky enough to drink pedigree Nebbiolo. There is enormous density here and power and grace; however, the Barolo Falletto is seemingly weightless and ever so delicate as it warms smoothly over the senses. Crisp cherry and blackberry are followed by delicate tones of crushed stone and iron ore. Bright tones of grilled herb and blue flower lift gently from the bouquet and add to the balanced intensity of this collectors' vintage." Robert Parker

Barolo “Falletto” DOCG 2017
The Barolo Falletto from the hillside of the same name in Serralunga, where the winery is also located, has a wonderfully complex and racy personality. It impresses with the intensity of its dark fruit and the excellent overall balance that can only be found in this coveted site. The 2017 vintage has allowed a complex, fruit-driven Falletto to mature, with a spectrum ranging from small dark berries, menthol, flowers and liquorice to a tannin that is present yet trimmed for consistent elegance. It is a particularly precise and direct Barolo without being loud. However, its full character, aromatic diversity and delicacy will only really come to the fore with further bottle ageing. SUPERIORE.DE
"From the glorious traditionalist comes a powerful but highly distinctive and complex Falleto in a hot year that denies neither vintage nor varietal. The smoky floral scent is
accompanied by engaging sweet berries, tar and cedar. In the mouth, the rich, seductive and subtle Nebbiolo fruit is skilfully contrasted by a confident tannic structure that frames the powerful stature and ripe fruit. final with delicate orange zest and mineral notes. Rounded up. Let lie!" Weinwisser"This is broad and open-knit, offering plum, cherry, eucalyptus, juniper, licorice, tar and tobacco flavors. Dense tannins add grip as this turns more compact on the finish. The smooth texture and balance bode well for the future." Wine Spectator
"Sweet berries, smoke, cedar and olives on the nose. Floral. Full-bodied with firm, chewy tannins and a pretty background and ripe fruit. Flavorful finish. Hints of bitter citrus and smoke, too. Very complex. Powerful for Falletto." James Suckling

Barolo “Falletto Vigna Le Rocche” DOCG 2015
Beautiful Barolo from every perspective, because the intensity of the bouquet and the elegance of taste are unique. Super fine tannins lend spine and structure to the rich fruit aromas. Falletto Vigna Le Rocche offers a dreamlike fresh consistency and balance and always keeps the right balance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Le Rocche is a selection from the highest parcels in Falletto in Serralunga, which helps to explain its great finesse. The raspberry and redcurrant nose shows great purity of fruit, poise and stylishness. The palate is equally elegant, with a lean attack, polished tannins and a silky, intense texture. There's ample tannic grip but it's not aggressive and there are none of the rough edges often apparent in Serralunga. Balanced and very long." Decanter
"Bottled in July of last year, the 2015 Barolo Falletto Vigna Le Rocche is a daring and absolutely profound expression of Nebbiolo with the depth, thickness and volume you can expect from a warm vintage such as this. This wine is a veritable bomb of aromatic intensity with thick layers of dark fruit, spice and crushed stone that all vie for your attention in equal measure. The mouthfeel is characterized by thick fiber and lasting succulence, all capped with fresh acidity and a firm tannic backbone. This Barolo is classic Giacosa." Robert Parker
"It takes a few seconds to access the core of fruit in this taut, sinewy red, but there is a beam of pure cherry, accented by rose, wild juniper, thyme and licorice flavors. This turns elegant and supple in the end, with terrific complexity, harmony and minerally length." Wine Spectator
"I am lost for words with this wine. Perfumed and so elegant with the most exquisite aromas of roses, plums and earth. Yet always subtle and complex. Full body, ultra-fine and firm tannins. Upgraded. Fantastic finish that lasts for minutes. Try in 2026." James Suckling

Barbaresco Asili Riserva DOCG 2014
Barbaresco Riserva Asili is beautifully perfumed, rose petals and ripe berries, splendid in its round, sensual fruit. On the palate, opulent, elegant and rich in irresistibly silky tannins that produce even more substance and richness than the white label. A wine of breathtaking beauty and great longevity. SUPERIORE.DE
"A magnificent result for 2014, but then this is a legendary wine: a top bottling from a top estate. The nose is rich, juicy, and exuberant, with piquant raspberry aromas. It's undoubtedly rich and full-bodied, and there's no lack of volume or concentration. The tannins are bold and fleshy, and the wine overall is surprisingly succulent and approachable. Very long, grainy finish." Decanter
"Fluid and juicy, with savory notes of menthol and juniper, matched to the cherry and currant fruit. Underlined by a mineral element, this features a serious whack of tannins on the finish, yet the lasting impression is of sweet, ripe cherry and berry flavors, showing wonderful length." Wine Spectator
"The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Asili represents a tremendous effort in a challenging but ultimately very rewarding vintage. The previous edition was 2011, and Bruna Giacosa tells me that it will be produced in 2016 and possibly 2017—although this has not yet been officially confirmed. Growing conditions in 2014 were cause for concern up until the end of August because of humidity and below average temperatures. Those conditions changed suddenly in the nick of time, bringing strong sunshine and warmth during the final stage of grape ripening. Ultimately, 2014 proved to be a long growing season with healthy fruit in reduced volume. The Rabajà cru sometimes shows a harder edge with more mineral definition. Asili, in comparison, offers gorgeous intensity and profound depth. This Riserva shows seamless integration of wild fruit, blue flower, spice, balsam herb and pencil shaving. This is a complete and complex expression with an enduring sense of dimension and structure. I can’t wait to taste this wine one day in the far future when it is further along on its promising evolutionary track." Robert Parker
"Incredible aromas of violets, roses and blue fruits. So perfumed. Never smelled a wine like this before. Full body, perfectly integrated tannins and bright, vivid acidity. Extremely long and endless. A seamless and great one. An evocative wine that makes you think. Needs three to five years of bottle age on release. Unique red." James Suckling

Barbaresco Asili DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM

The traditionalist. This is how Bruno Giacosa was always respectfully called, because he rejected the winemaking of Barbaresco and Barolo in barriques and always aged his wines in large wooden barrels. Even if the name was actually a little unfair, because Bruno Giacosa was always open to new methods and kept in touch with the "modernists like Angelo Gaja, Elio Altare and the other "Barolo-Boys". Without him, the meteoric rise of the Piedmont region would hardly have been possible.
Already at the age of fifteen he entered the business of his grandfather and became a "Commerciante", comparable to a Négociant éleveur in France. The Giacosas did not have their own vineyards, but bought the grapes of friendly winegrowers and expanded them. To get the best out of the grapes has always been his strength. Already at the beginning of the 1960s. "Top drops only from peak years" was the credo. In 1964 it was such a top vintage, and Bruno Giacosa was the first to bottle a single vineyard Barbaresco from the Santa Stefano vineyard in his home town of Neive. This was a revolution at the time and provided for more discussion than maturing in barriques - and soon found many imitators.
It was not until 1982 that Bruno Giacosa was able to acquire his first vineyard, one of the best, Falletto di Serralunga, in the Barolo area. In 1996, a few small plots in two other top locations followed: Asili and Rabajá, which (together with Martinenga) are described by many experts as the best crus in Barbaresco.
The rest is wine history. Giacosa's wines take a long time to mature. He called his winemaking "modern traditional", which meant a maceration of about one month, compared to often more than 50 days in earlier times. Matured in 5,000 litre barrels, he preferred French oak barrels to traditional Slavonian barrels. And he always allowed the wines to ripen longer than his colleagues and usually only came onto the market 2-3 years later.
If you are impatient and open Giacosa's wines too early, you will usually experience them closed and inaccessible. But if you are patient and allow the wines to mature in the cellar, you can enjoy elegant, complex, unique Barolo and Barbaresco. They are then really an experience that you can remember for a long time. In the meantime, Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Roero Arneis are all great ways to pass the time. Or treat yourself to the grandiose speciality of the house, the rare 100% Pinot Nero Spumante in classic bottle fermentation.
At the beginning of the 2000s, daughter Bruna Giacosa took over the management of the winery, which was actually called Azienda Agricola Falletto, and was also able to win back her father's long-time oenologist and companion Dante Scaglione. Even after the death of the old master Bruno Giacosa in 2018, the continuity and style of the "modern" traditionalist is assured. SUPERIORE.DE
