Barbaresco DOCG 2018
In a deep, lively ruby to garnet red, the Barbaresco shows itself with the extensive bouquet of red fruits and pastries and a mineral touch. On the palate, it convinces with a rich, solid structure as well as a continuous development that ends in a lengthy final full of fragrance. The leading winegrowers' cooperative in Italy shows every year already with its basic Barbaresco what it and its members are capable of. Complimenti! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Barbaresco is an attractive, open-knit wine to drink now and over the next 10-15 years, maybe more. In 2018 the Produttori did not bottle their Riservas. Instead, all of the best lots of those grapes went into the straight Barbaresco bottling, another in a long string of successes from this historic house. Dark cherry, cedar, tobacco and spice fill out the layers. There is good depth and a good deal of tannin too, just not the complexity or nuance of the very best years." Vinous
"Lovely barbaresco, with all the typical nebbiolo characteristics, such as red berries, mushrooms and dried leaves, as well as hints of bitter orange peel and spice. All this follows through to the medium-to full-bodied palate, where fine, lightly firm tannins add a little grip and additional focus. Compact, but bursting with flavor. Delicious now, but give it a year or two. It will only get better." James Suckling

Barbaresco Pora Riserva DOCG 2014
Pora overwhelms with incredible complexity and a variety of aromas ranging from raspberries and liquorice to dried flowers, spices and white truffles. On the palate, Pora Noblesse offers a certain noblesse and seriousness before it opens with bite and juiciness and ends velvety wide. SUPERIORE.DE
"Promising scent of stone fruit, leather and tobacco; juicy in the mouth, the acidity perceptible, the tannin well integrated, racy and powerful, yet rich in finesse. To saddle of venison." Vinum
"Lustrous mid ruby with orange tinges. Sweet, peppery raspberry nose with hints of strawberry jam. Clean-cut raspberry palate with plenty of acidity, but the fragrant fruit follows through. Fine layer of sandy tannins that become more prominent on the finish." Jancis Robinson
"I had tasted this vintage last year as a barrel sample. Now a fully complete wine, the 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Pora did not disappoint, and even jumped up a few points. The Riserva Pora opens to dark fruit intensity with a slightly more accessible quality. Those lovely floral tones of lavender and violet are ever present. After having spent three years in oak and another year in the bottle, this wine offers a looser mouthfeel in terms of tannic structure, making it a bit more open and immediate in personality. You could uncork this bottle in 2020 if you just can't wait, but ideally, it is meant for the longer haul." Robert Parker
"Although Pora is a relatively low-elevation site and can produce broad wines, Produttori's growers own almost half the cru, so they can select the best grapes for this Riserva. It's beautifully perfumed, with pure raspberry fruit. The palate is streamlined and poised, with a sleek texture and a remarkable purity of flavour, yet it doesn't lack structure and its fine acidity gives it drive and persistence." Decanter
"Round and supple, exuding cherry, berry, licorice, eucalyptus and tar flavors. Harmonious and well-built, with a long aftertaste of menthol." Wine Spectator
"The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is a dark, sensual beauty. Deeply spiced and balsamic, with tremendous textural richness, the Pora is utterly beguiling. I can't remember a Pora with this much depth, textural resonance and brooding intensity. The 2014 needs at least a few years to be at its best, but it is superb even in the early going. I won't be surprised if the 2014 turns out to be better than this note suggests." Antonio Galloni

Barbaresco Rio Sordo Riserva DOCG 2017
Rio Sordo Riserva is particularly dense, rich and balanced. On the nose we find roses, spices and raspberries. On the palate, it is very complex and has a wonderful depth and juiciness. Rio Sordo offers a taut and sharp fruit on the surface, which is rounded off with some tannin and crispness on the finish. The floral notes that develop with good aeration or further bottle ageing into the final make this Barbaresco Riserva irresistible even when young. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Rio Sordo shows the natural intensity of the year, and yet retains a good bit of the aromatic lift that is so typical of Nebbiolo at its best. Silky, perfumed and poised, the Rio Sordo is impressive in this tasting. Spice and floral notes lift a core of red-toned fruit in this mid-weight yet packed Barbaresco from the Produttori. This has very fine potential." Vinous

Pora overwhelms with incredible complexity and a variety of aromas ranging from stone fruit, raspberries and liquorice to dried flowers, spices and white truffle. Despite all its lush fruit, the Pora has a good structural foundation. Juicy notes of dark cherries, plums, espresso, menthol and liquorice unfold in this forward, wonderfully inviting Riserva from the Produttori. The wine excels in aromas, but its sleek and polished personality continues on the palate. Multi-layered, exciting and still quite youthfully austere today, it needs a few years to relax and develop. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Pora is rich, creamy and layered, with a bit more generosity than is typically the case. Sweet red cherry, red plum, spice and rose petal are amplified in a radiant, open-knit Barbaresco that will start drinking well in a few years' time." Vinous

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarbaresco Muncagota Riserva DOCG 2017
Muncagota is rich, deep and super-expressive every year, hitting all the right notes. Black cherry, plum, spices, leather and liquorice all come out, but all very hesitantly and with a lot of aeration, better: with further bottle ageing. Muncagota is one of the examples from the famous series of nine Riserve that clearly needs time. And time should be given to it, and the patient will be richly rewarded. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Muncagota is one of the lighter wines in this range. Floral and medium in body, the 2017 gives the impression of a wine that will open earlier than some of the others. It, too, has pretty imposing tannins though, so a few years in bottle are advisable. Crushed flowers, sweet red cherry, mint and white pepper linger." Vinous

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarbaresco Montestefano Riserva DOCG 2017
Montestefano Riserva is exquisite and harmonious from start to finish. Among the nine great Riserves of the Produttori, it is the one that best hides its tannin, as the fruit is intensely fragrant, rich and seductive. For us, it is a synthesis of Montefico, Ovello and Rabajà. Today Montestefano gives the feeling of being relatively accessible, but it will almost certainly go through a few more closing phases before it fully opens up. On the nose, we are surprised by an almost endless complexity and depth. Its silky, polished tannins give an impression of sensual elegance. Crushed meadow flowers, mint, liquorice and dark red cherries are just some of the notes that envelop the deep, long finish. Fabulous! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Montestefano is a potent, savory wine. Today, the fruit is very much in the background. A brooding, backward Barbaresco, the Montestefano clearly needs time, it is a somber, imposing Barbaresco. Dark plum, earthiness, cloves, menthol and licorice infuse the finish with notable gravitas. There's plenty of Montestefano breadth and resonance." Vinous

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarbaresco Pajè Riserva DOCG 2017
Pajé is a small vineyard near the village of Barbaresco, whose calcareous soils usually produce bright and floral wines, and this wine impressively fulfils that expectation, combined with an already remarkable density that it is only beginning to reveal. On the nose, it shows intensity and purity, with penetrating aromas of red fruits. On the attack, it is supple, luminous but weighty and very focused. The lively acidity adds tension and persistence to the finish. Already enticing, but with the unclouded prospect of further positive surprises! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is a fine choice for readers who enjoy wines of freshness, verve and energy. Dark fruit, menthol, spice, pine and crushed rocks are beautifully delineated. This is an especially chiseled wine in the range of 2017 Riservas. I very much like the balance of richness and vibrancy. In a word: classic." Vinous

Limitation of 3 articles per customerBarbaresco Ovello Riserva DOCG 2017
The site Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is, as always, one of the outstanding wines of this series. It shows the energy and tension so typical of this site, but with a slightly riper profile than is the norm. Ovello dives straight into the volatile Nebbiolo aromas, focusing on liquorice, tar, blue flowers and campfire ash. The palate is full-bodied, with flavours of crushed raspberries, juicy Marasca cherries, liquorice and nutmeg, and firm, tight-knit tannins. The fresh acidity adds tension and balance. Looking at the timeline of Riserva wines, this wine reaches the magical threshold where Nebbiolo begins to unfold its unique aromatic appeal and mystique ... SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a heady, explosive wine. I don't think I have ever tasted an Ovello from the Produttori with this much heft. The strong mineral and saline accents typical of this site are present, but they are matched pound for pound by notable mid-palate richness and intensity in its fruit. The 2017 is a brooding powerhouse that needs time to unwind." Vinous

Here, there is a successful division of power between extract, tannin and alcohol, as only a Nebbiolo is able to achieve. Seductive leather and tobacco notes and the flavourful power and elegance guarantee a splendid drinkability and high enjoyment. Soaring aromas, wonderfully supple red-tinged fruit and tons of pure depth make for a stunning Barbaresco that captivates all the senses. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is a real stand out. It captures all the sensuality of the year while retaining the translucence and freshness of Nebbiolo. Rose petal, crushed red berry fruit, cinnamon and spice develop with a bit of coaxing. This is another gorgeous wine from the Produttori. Asili is widely regarded as one of the best vineyards in Barbaresco, maybe the best. This wine shows why." Vinous

The Barbaresco Montefico 2017 is a jewel of a wine. Freshly cut flowers, minerals, crushed rocks, rose petals and lavender are all finely cut. As always, the Montefico is taut and angular in style. Its sense of transparency is simply beguiling. Sage, mint and sweet pipe tobacco are some of the nuances that linger. Montefico is a Barbaresco for lovers of tighter red wines, whom it will delight. It combines the fruitiness of the Montestefano with the verve of the Ovello. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Montefico is one of the stand-outs in this range. It shows the piercing tannins typical of this site, and yet has more than enough fruit to balance those tannins, certainly moreso than wines like the Rabajà. This exposed site benefits from cooling winds from the north, clearly a benefit in 2017. Even in the early going, the balance here is terrific. In 2017, the Montefico is one of the clear stand outs in the range." Vinous

Rabaja is an elegant and great wine. Deep layers of fruit practically bury the tannins, which is very unusual for a young Rabajà. A multitude of dark, blue-tinged fruits, lavender, mint, violets and spices race across the palate in an extremely vibrant, compelling Barbaresco of the highest order. Extensive fruity core, alongside hints of roses, menthol, minerals and tar. The concentrated palate is of enviable finesse and is virtually weightless in the mouth. It shows crushed black cherries, juicy raspberries, orange peel, cloves and liquorice alongside firm, velvety tannins. The bright acidity provides impeccable balance. Rabaja offers the whole range: beautiful fruit, defined body, excellent length, fine tannic acid and wonderful balsamic notes. Great Barbaresco cinema! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is a potent, searingly tannic wine that will need a few years to come together. Brooding and backward, even for young Rabajà, the 2017 is painfully young today. It will be interesting to see what time brings. Today, the 2017 is a real powerhouse. Black fruit, menthol, licorice, melted road tar, game and menthol develop in the glass, but only with great reluctance." Vinous

"The 2017 Barbaresco shows just how appealing this vintage can be. In 2017, the warm, dry growing season gave the Barbaresco an extra kick of richness that fills out its frame and adds so much immediacy. Sweet red berry fruit, cinnamon, rose petal and mint are open in the glass, but it is the wine’s seductive radiance that wins the day. Pora, Ovello, Montestefano, Muncagota and Rio Sordo are the main vineyards used for the straight Barbaresco. The 2017 is such an inviting and expressive wine. Don’t miss it!" Vinous

Today it is not only one of the best cooperative wineries in Europe, but also offers its wines at very customer-friendly prices: The Produttori del Barbaresco cooperative, newly created in 1958 by the local priest Don Fiorino Marengo and now managed with a steady hand by Aldo Vacca and Gianni Testa.
Originally, the Cantina Sociale was founded by Domizio Cavazza in 1894 and brought the first wines on the market, which were officially called Barbaresco. From 1913, the year of Cavazza's death, economically difficult times followed. The First World War, a new outbreak of the phylloxera plague, a strong infestation of the vines with downy mildew and the fascist rule, which encouraged winegrowers to cultivate cereals instead of wine, led to the closure of the winery in the mid-twenties. Today, more than fifty affiliated winegrowers cultivate almost one-sixth of the total area under cultivation in the Barbaresco region.
The winegrowing families manage their 200 to 400 metre high plots autonomously, but follow strict guidelines of the Board of Directors regarding soil and vine care. Since the plants grow in nine of the best locations in the denomination, the wine guide Gambero Rossodescribes the cooperative's range of wines, consisting of almost a dozen precious drops and supplemented by the Riserva line in good wine-growing years, as one of the best in the world. "Educational trail leading to the true nature of the Langa".
From the very beginning, the declared aim of the Piedmontese was to produce high-quality wines and to limit themselves to the Nebbiolo grape variety. To this day, only Barbaresco and Nebbiolo base wines are produced in the traditional style. The grapes for Barbaresco come from the premium vineyards of Asili, Rabajà, Pora, Montestefano, Ovello, Pajé, Montefico, Muncagota and Rio Sordo. Since 1967, some of the cooperative's top-quality wines have been marketed as Auslesen - always under the vineyard name and as Riserva. The classic preparation with extended maceration periods and large barrels form the basis for extremely long-lived drops that clearly distance themselves from fashion trends.
The cooperative Cantina Sociale dei Produttori del Barbaresco was the first producer in the region to produce wines from cru sites, with the wineries of Angelo Gaja and Bruno Giacosa, which are still important today. This approach was a first step in the direction of today's official location cartography of the fascinating denomination. In good years the cooperative produces Barbaresco from about half of the harvested grapes. About 30 percent of the wines are labelled as Barbaresco individual sites (Riserva) and about 20 percent as Nebbiolo Langhe. SUPERIORE.DE
"One of the world's leading cooperatives that has been producing great wines for five decades."Robert Parker
"The wines of the Barbaresco cooperative have always been a faithful reflection of the region, the soil and the artisan tradition. They are enchanting with their varied fruity notes, their rich aromas; they are surprisingly long-lasting and still inexpensive." Horst Dohm (Message in a bottle from Piedmont)
