Merlot Marche IGT 2019 (BIO)
Bisci not only produces excellent Verdicchio, but also very appealing Rosso, which has been made from 100% Merlot since the 2019 vintage. The winery from the Marche region has achieved a great success with the most affordable wine in its range: Fascinating aromas of red berries, precious wood and herbs, with a subtle, smoky component in the background. Precise and taut on the palate, with a wonderful primary fruity core, framed by liquorice and a dried bouquet of Mediterranean herbs. A warm red for the unusual days of the week. SUPERIORE.DE
"This steel-vinified and concrete-matured Merlot is sourced from 3ha in a cool, late-ripening area. Violets and crunchy green aromas are followed in the mouth by big mouthcoating tannins and a wave of freshening acidity. Sapid red and black fruits, with a hint of blueberries, carry through to a long finish." Decanter

Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2022 (BIO)
Italy connoisseur and wine critic Ian D'Agata writes about the grape variety in his book "Native Wine Grapes of Italy": "Verdicchio is arguably Italy's greatest native white grape variety. This statement may surprise those who have only tasted neutral or watery Verdicchio wines, sometimes even bottled in incredible, amphora-shaped bottles."
Light straw green. Clean and fresh on the nose, lively and buoyant on the palate with an almost laser-like precision in the aromas of citrus, herbs, almonds, shellfish and crushed rock. Its sweet and sour note makes the wine even more attractive and gives it a touch of "drink me now". Everything here is in perfect balance and of natural tension. Already the basic wine of Bisci with 7 months of ageing on the fine lees impressively shows the great class of the winery. SUPERIORE.DE

“Villa Castiglioni” Rosso Marche IGT 2018
Amber-coloured red. Finesse-rich notes of game, tobacco and undergrowth frame the sour cherry on the nose. Soft and ripe on the palate, very precise and pure, with medium pressure and well-proportioned tannins that flank a wonderfully long finish. 100% Sangiovese from the Marche, 100% performance from Bisci! SUPERIORE.DE
"Pretty rose and violet hues give way to redcurrant and crushed stone as the 2018 Rosso Villa Castiglione opens in the glass. It has a soft texture and round feel, showing wild berries, lavender and a slight hint of peppery herbs that lingers towards the finish. It lingers incredibly long and powerful, but also fresh, with hints of violet candy and chalky minerals that linger. The 2018 is an absolute pleasure to savour. The Villa Castiglione is a pure Sangiovese." Vinous
"Fermented in stainless steel, aged in used tonneaux and refined in concrete, this 100% Sangiovese features wild strawberry and floral aromas, with a hint of plum. In the mouth it features cherry fruit and clingy tannins. Earthy, ripe and focused, with a long, fresh finish." Decanter

“Vigneto Fogliano” Verdicchio di Matelica DOC 2021 (BIO)
The quality of Italian white wines has generally risen over the last 20 years, and this also applies to Verdicchio. There are still quite a few bad old-fashioned wines, but the good ones can be a revelation. The region around Matelica in particular has made Verdicchio famous, as the best representatives of its type come from here - and mostly from the higher vineyards: complex, mineral, fresh and long-lasting.
Vigneto Fogliano is produced only in the best years from a careful selection of Verdicchio grapes from the best vineyard of the Biscis. On the nose, it presents green fruit with beautiful notes of honeydew melon and summer jasmine. Its deep, multi-layered flavours of apples, pears, fresh citrus fruits and a hint of menthol caress the palate creamily, before a salty minerality and fresh acidity take over and help the wine achieve a perfection that is second to none. Fogliano spends 18 months on the lees in a cement tank before being bottled in numbered bottles. In a nutshell, it is a great white wine! SUPERIORE.DE

Bringing the minerality and acidity of Verdicchio into perfect balance is what the Bisci winery has been doing for years to thrill the wine scene and outshine the competition. Wine critic Ian D'Agata affirms: "Bisci is a heavyweight in the small DOC Verdicchio di Matelica. Here, greatness and quality go hand in hand and these Verdicchio wines are among the best in the region."
Looking at the winery's consistent wine style, it's clear why its success is no accident. From the beginning, founder Giuseppe Bisci wanted to bring tasteful and authentic Verdicchio wines to the market that would not be a victim of fashionable trends. For him, only the best situated vineyards in the historic DOC Verdicchio di Matelica came into question. With the support of his brother Pierino, he planted south-facing vineyards on the foothills of Monte San Vicino in the 1970s.
Today, Giuseppe's son Tito Bisci and the oenologist Aroldo Bellelli drive the business forward in a timeless way between the provinces of Macerata and Ancona. Verdicchio, Merlot and Sangiovese are farmed at an altitude of 300-350 metres using organic farming methods on the limestone and clay soils of the stunning Alta Vallesina valley. Tucked away in the Apennines, the ripening grapes benefit from warm, long summer days and cool nights that produce wines with expressive acidity and the characteristic stimulating minerality.
While temperature fluctuations in the vineyard are beneficial, the wine should be kept as constant as possible from a thermal point of view during the ripening period. This is done with the help of antique cement tanks, which reflect the classic winemaking of the area and are used instead of the fashionable use of wooden barrels. "I want to stick to cement as far as winemaking is concerned," the oenologist tells us in conversation, and continues enthusiastically: "and the great thing was that the Bisci family replied to me: Aroldo, you are right, we are with you. Keep going in this direction. We'll stick to cement".
The winery has always produced wood-free, terroir-driven quality wines, and a minimally intrusive working philosophy in the vineyard and cellar ultimately led to the potential of the vineyards chosen by the founder being able to fully develop. It is therefore obvious why restaurants and wine merchants are clamouring for these impressive wines. While the basic Verdicchio is wonderfully fresh and drinkable, the spicy and supple single-vineyard Verdicchio di Matelica Vigneto di Fogliano is evidence of extraordinary ageing potential. Finally, the winery's Marche Rosso, a blend of Sangiovese and Merlot, rounds off the coveted range in the style of the top class. SUPERIORE.DE
