“Erse” Rosso Etna DOC 2020
Sweet cherries, flowers, spices and a hint of mint on the nose. Firm yet harmonious tannin in the lively, very intense flavour, which never feels heavy but elegant until the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Etna Rosso Erse keeps me returning to the glass to take in its vibrant and spicy bouquet, where sour cherries complement dried roses, cloves and a hint of fresh mint. This wine is round and juicy, yet pure, with mineral red berries that saturate, while the lively acidity maintains a fantastic freshness. A subtle coating of fine tannins and a salty note define the final, while the 2020 tapers off smoothly and grippily under a hint of red flowers. This is an excellent entry-level Etna Rosso." Vinous
"The entry-level Tenuta di Fessina 2020 Etna Rosso Erse is elegant and lean with a fun set of aromas that recall white pepper, wild berry, blue flower and candied orange peel. I like this fresh, snappy style and you get great value." Wine Advocate

“Alta Mora” Bianco Etna DOC 2021
Here comes one of the most beautiful interpretations of the white grape variety Carricante. Fresh, dynamic wine from Etna with a multi-faceted aroma of citrus, white peach, yeast, flint and smoke. Cool grapefruit, taut acidity and impressive mineral hints in the dry finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Etna Bianco opens with a whiff of crushed stones and raw almonds, giving way to crushed green apples. It soothes with its round, enveloping textures. Zesty acidity and salty mineral tones add a reverberation of tension. It leaves a subtle tart tinge of sour melon while finishing pleasantly fresh and saline." Vinous
"Bright straw yellow with golden reflections. In the nose of tropical fruits, orange peel, ripe apple and some fumé. On the palate very mineral, fresh and salty, animates to drink, balanced, long final." Falstaff
"A restrained nose with notes of tar and fresh pavement, then lemons and limes, opens to a palate bright with citrus but also stony and peppery, before a long finish carried by powerful acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"The 2021 Etna Bianco is fresh and beautifully balanced with white peach and grapefruit contrasted with minerals and volcanic ash. This crisp white wine proves very drinkable and enjoyable thanks to the almost salty finish that would go well with fried prawns or Thai spring rolls. It matures on the fine lees for six months. The fruit comes from three different contrade: Arrigo (in Linguaglossa), Verzella and Pietramarina." Wine Advocate
"It has aromas of grilled pineapple, papaya and chamomile with distinct smoky and ashy undertones. Medium-bodied with bright acidity. Spicy, with fantastic flint and smoke character." James Suckling

“Alta Mora” Rosso Etna DOC 2019
Bright, lightening garnet, very clear bouquet with emphatically fresh fruit notes of berries and rhubarb, elegant on the palate with well-dosed power, smooth tannin; juicy, persistent and long. SUPERIORE.DE
"Cherry juice and violets on the nose, but still somewhat closed. The palate seems supple, so it will appeal to a broad, international audience. Sweet cherry and red currant are the dominant fruit flavours, with some liquorice in the finish. Aged for six months in wooden barrels, the tannin is polished and friendly." Vinum
"Medium ruby red with brightening edges. A little restrained on the nose at first, then pomegranate and rosehip as well as a hint of undergrowth. On the palate fruit-driven with pleasant pressure." Falstaff
"Alta Mora's entry-level red wine is the 2019 Etna Rosso, which is 100% Nerello Mascalese from the Solicchiata, Verzella, Guardiola and Feudo di Mezzo sites. You really can't go wrong with a charming and lively red wine like this. The bouquet is perfumed, immediate and fruity with wild cherry and cassis. I like the aromatic intensity of this vintage. The palate is medium-bodied with a short but fresh finish. These characteristics make it a good choice for the kitchen." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of raspberry, watermelon, gravel, nutmeg and lemon. Medium-bodied with tight tannins and bright acidity. Wild and mineral on the finish." James Suckling

"A vivid blend of crushed cherries and strawberries offset by dusty and rose and spice wafts up from the 2020 Etna Rosso. This is round with a pretty inner sweetness and lifted textures, showcasing ripe red and blue fruits over a core of vibrant acidity. It lingers long yet is only lightly tannic, with a flourish of licorice that echoes on. This is a fantastic Etna Rosso and introduction to the house style." Vinous
"Strawberries, black pepper and crushed rocks show on the nose of this wine, with hints of vanilla and mint. On the palate, there are flavours of strawberries, freshly ripened cherries with biting skin and earth, underlined by the saltiness of crushed rock and the metallic hint of iron. “Ghiaia Nera” Rosso Etna DOC 2019
Ghiaia, a single varietal Nerello Mascalese from the slopes of Etna, exudes sweet aromas of cherries and flowers. A refined, very detailed and seductive wine with great charm, character and personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright shimmering cherry red. Finely marked nose of red berries, cranberries, wild strawberries, light underbrush on the nose, wet stone. Juicy attack with grip, youthful tannin, good harmony in attack and course, finely herbal, vertical finish." Falstaff
"The 2019 Etna Rosso Ghiaia Nera is smoky with a herbal tinge that further grounds it in the earth. Sour cherries mix with hints of camphor, cedar and sage as this opens in the glass. It’s soft-textured with a pleasant burst of juicy acids up front that propel its pure red berry fruits and rosy inner floral tones. The Ghiaia Nera finishes lightly structured and tense, yet long and remarkably pretty." Vinous
"Pouring from the bottle with a thin, light ruby color, the 2019 Etna Rosso Nerello Mascalese Ghiaia Nera is a finely textured wine. This delicate approach and those soft footprints make this bottle quite exciting to pour, especially as an easy companion to a homemade pasta dish. It offers wild cherry, tart berry, cassis, crushed stone, smoke and lavender essence." Wine Advocate
"Lithe and savory, this lovely red has enticing scents of Mediterranean scrub, wild berries, crushed stone and eucalyptus. The polished, savory palate offers wonderful finesse, featuring wild strawberry, pomegranate and star anise alongside flinty mineral notes. Glossy tannins provide elegant support." Wine Enthusiast

Etna Rosato DOC 2022
Fresh rosato that smells of dark berries and a hint of lavender. Clear fruit on the palate, with elegant suppleness, a fine mineral note and, last but not least, a winning drinkability. SUPERIORE.DE
"A pale and perfumed rosé with notes of cherry blossom, peaches, rose hips and strawberries. Medium-bodied, creamy and delicate yet with plenty of flavor and a dry and delicious finish." James Suckling
"The Cottanera 2022 Etna Rosato is beautiful in the glass, with pink, gold and copper highlights. The wine's color is achieved with just three or four hours of skin contact and finishes in steel. Fruit for this wine comes from a vineyard site that is specifically farmed to make rosé. The bouquet leans toward floral aromas at the front and fruity aromas at the back. It shows balance and precision with a mineral-driven finish. This is one of my favorite Italian rosés, especially at this price point." Wine Advocate

“Eruzione 1614” Nerello Mascalese Sicilia DOC 2019
In the history of Etna, the eruption of 1614 is legendary, as it lasted ten years and is thus to date the longest recorded eruption of the volcano that is still active today. A very impressive and fitting name for Planeta's Etna series of equally impressive wines.
It could hardly be more autochthonous: this excellent wine from the Nerello Mascalese grape comes from the hotspot on the east coast of Sicily, from the slopes of Mount Etna. Brilliant bright cherry red, fine scent of raspberry and blood orange, gripping, taut acidity, silky tannin and a buoyant elegance with beautiful minerality. Great, long and unique! SUPERIORE.DE
"Pure Nerello Mascalese of great finesse, from the Cru Sciaranuova, matured for 12 months in oak barrels, very multi-faceted nose, red currant, notes of laurel, nutmeg and wild mint. Savoury and spicy on the palate, with a fruity and oily finish." Luca Gardini
"The 2019 Nerello Mascalese Eruzione 1614 is delicate and floral in the glass, with pretty rose tones and spice hints complementing dusty black cherry. It washes across the palate with ease, soft and juicy in feel with tactile mineral tones that add grip toward the close. A coating of fine tannins lingers as the 2019 finishes remarkably fresh yet youthfully structured. Some time will be required for this to come fully into focus." Vinous
"Aromas of sliced strawberries, red cherries and grated nutmeg. Medium to full-bodied with fine, slightly taut tannins. Lively and acidic on the palate, with plenty of white pepper for stimulation. Accompanied by notes of wet stone and sage. Well structured and complex. Best after 2024." James Suckling

Etna Bianco DOC 2022 (BIO)
Etna Bianco from Terre Nere offers a surprising level of depth and sophistication. The cuvée of Carricante, Catarratto, Grecanico, Inzolia and Minnella smells of grapefruit, quince, dried sage and wild mint. Fine mineral notes on the palate, develops elegantly with notes of lemon curd. The balance is wonderful. Seamless. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Etna Bianco is smoky in the glass, exciting the senses with a burst of crushed rocks and raw almonds before giving way to citrus-stringed peach. It’s soothingly soft and enveloping with weighty textures lifted by vibrant acidity. Masses of mineral-laden orchard fruits and sweet spices collide on the palate. The 2022 finishes remarkably fresh yet grippy and long, leaving the mouth watering for more. The level of complexity here is off the charts for an entry-level Etna Bianco. Yum!" Vinous
"It shows attractive aromas of citrus and stone fruit with hints of shellfish, with stony and ashy undertones. Medium-bodied, tangy and fresh with lively acidity and a sophisticated mineral backbone. Steady and concentrated with a crisp finish." James Suckling

“Eruzione 1614” Carricante Sicilia DOC 2019
In the history of Etna, the eruption of 1614 is legendary, as it lasted ten years and is thus to date the longest recorded eruption of the volcano that is still active today. A very impressive and fitting name for Planeta's Etna series of equally impressive wines.
Carricante from Planeta's Etna vineyard is an exceptional growth full of freshness, energy and minerality. This noble grape variety thrives under exclusive conditions, on volcanic soils and at altitudes of 870 metres. A wonderfully complex pleasure that is always released for sale only two years after the harvest. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, rich golden yellow. In the nose of fresh stone fruit, green apple and citrus fruit, then flint and bergamot. Taut and juicy on the palate, very fresh and with traction, mineral, citrus on the final." Falstaff
"Aromas of apples, smoked lemons and nuts with some lemon grass. Some bruised apple, too. Medium to full body. Round texture with lovely fruit and a flavorful finish." James Suckling

“Sul Vulcano” Rosso Etna DOC 2020
Donnafugata's impressive declaration of love to the currently hottest wine hotspot Etna began with the Sul Vulcano line. Bright ruby red, in the bouquet wild strawberry with delicate hints of cinnamon and nutmeg. The corresponding fresh taste and subtle elegance lead into a harmonious and energetic finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Etna Rosso Sul Vulcano opens with all the ash and smoke you'd expect from its name, coupled with dried black cherries, dark chocolate and mint. It's round and supple with a pure blend of red fruits and inner herbal tones, all guided by brisk acidity. The 2020 leaves a lasting concentration through the structured finale. Fine tannins flex under an air of violet inner florals. Donnafugata has improved their Etna portfolio from top to bottom." Vinous
"Cedar-like on the nose, with notes of blood orange, red flowers, red cherries and violets. Harmonious acidity, firm tannins." Decanter
"Very aromatic with dried orange peel, candied cherries and a hint of salted caramel. Also orange blossom. Some mint. Medium body. Fine tannins that are firm and chewy. Lots of tension." James Suckling

The wine-growing region of Sicily is characterized by boundless vastness and contrasts, such as the Scottish humid, misty coolness of Erice and the hellish heat of Randazzo at the foot of the Etna. Until the 1990s, international grape varieties were predominantly cultivated here, but the autochthonous grape variety Nero d'Avola in the foreground. The "New Sicily" is today determined by wines with their own aroma profile, which do not deny their very different origins. They have one thing in common: they are intensely fruity, warm and offensive. The Etna region occupies an exciting (top) position within Sicily that has only been internationally recognised in recent years. The wines are often less luxuriant, have a very special texture; acidity and tannin play an important role. SUPERIORE.DE
"The classic Etna wine comes in part from the highest vineyards up to 1110 metres above sea level of Etna, from eighty to one hundred year old vines, which produce extremely low yields and can usually only be cultivated in elaborate manual work. They are light-coloured, transparent wines (e.g. from Passopisciaro) with pronounced acidity and fine, but decided tannin and more peppery-vegetable than fruity aromas as well as saltiness reminiscent of ash. Wines that do not welcome you with open arms, but whose rewarding friendship you gradually earn. Lovers of Nebbiolo and Burgundy must get to know the wines of Etna!" Andreas March, Merum
