Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2021

On the palate very precise, juicy and with young tannin, crisp fruit, high drinkability, in a few months even more complete. A great food companion. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sangiovese with some Ciliegiolo and Alicante: classic berry-flower aroma with subtle cinnamon notes; balanced texture between crisp acidity and soft tannins, fresh-fruity finish. Always reliable." Vinum
"Enormously fragrant with crisp, fresh cherries, sour cherry. A lot of freshness and clarity, very animating to drink with fine tannin. Beautiful gastronomic wine. Could ideally be drunk as an aperitif." Weinwisser

Crushed red berry fruit, rose petal, cinnamon and spice are nicely pushed forward in this attractive, refreshing Morellino from Le Pupille." Vinous
"Fresh and vivid aromas of fruit, bark, mushrooms and crushed stones. Medium body with very fine tannins and lots of fresh cherry and orange peel on the finish. Crunchy." James Suckling

“Poggio Valente” Rosso Toscana DOC 2018 · MAGNUM
Poggio Valente 2018 from the single vineyard of the same name - has it ever been better? Opulent floral and small-fruited Sangiovese nose with optimally nuanced hints of tobacco, cedar and mint. On the palate, precise and with a lot of pressure and power, then towards the end, the furious resolution of all the well-dosed components in a fine, silky texture and an unforgettable, long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Single vineyard, located about 300 to 350 m.a.s.l., 3 to 4 weeks maceration, so a little longer. Matured in tonneaux from Bordeaux and Burgundy. Already clearly more complex on the nose than the Morellino. Its fine smokiness is complemented by wonderful notes of raspberry, fragolino and fine liquorice. In the mouth very elegant, downright subtle with sweet tannins, infused with a delicate raspberry note, very fine and seductive. What a value for money!" Weinwisser
"Radiant ruby red. In the nose with fine-fragrant hints, rich cherry fruit, lightly of white truffle, spicy, of red pepper, opens multilayered. Tightly woven palate entry with juicy, salty fruit, stretches clearly over the tongue, salty again in the final, very well done this year." Falstaff
"Rich and spicy, evoking plum, cherry, sandalwood and cigar box aromas and flavors. Though solidly built, this is also fluid, echoing spice notes on the finish." Wine Spectator
"Really pretty balance and focus to this red with plums, berries, cherries, currants and hints of vanilla and hazelnuts. It's medium-to full-bodied with refined tannins and a clean, fruity finish. Very elegant. Pure sangiovese." James Suckling
"Tasted from vat, the Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Poggio Valente is an elegant expression of Sangiovese with just a hint of the freewheeling wildness that characterizes the Maremma region of southern Tuscany. The wine delivers cherry, wild rose, forest fruit and blueberry. Beyond those primary tones are integrated notes of spice and mild tobacco. The wine is put together with careful precision, and all it needs now is more aging time in order to flesh out and build depth. Everything is set, just give it time." Wine Advocate
"Complex, restrained, super clean, tobacco, leather, cinnamon, cassis, black and red currants and hints of smoke. Full body, balanced with sweet fruit and noble tannins." Decanter

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2020
Deep dark ruby red. Floral nose with lots of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. Supple and elegant on the palate with wonderful depth and complexity with notes of black cherry, herbs, violets, plum and hints of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you until it fades into a very long and harmonious finish with an impressive presence and finesse. One of Italy's great wines, full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE
"Still slightly closed. Very multi-faceted on the nose, despite the hot and dry vintage with cool accents, balsamic and herbaceous notes, liquorice and pencil lead, certain Bordeaux airs. Quite linear in the mouth with a juicy, intense attack, still very youthful fruit, healthy, polished tannin structure, finely and detailedly arranged, this will be another great Saffredi." Weinwisser
"Impressive aromas of fresh herbs from the Tuscan coast, such as sage, mint, rosemary and thyme. Blackcurrants, too. Full-bodied with fine, chewy tannins that show beautiful length and consistency. Racy and beautiful, with lots of subtle and refined character. Slightly more cabernet sauvignon this year, which adds class to the wine. Give this about three or four years of bottle age." Syrah Toscana IGT 2016
A long-cherished vision of Elisabetta and her daughter Clara finds its completion in this crescent. This 100% Syrah builds on all that the winery has achieved in recent years and for which it has gained world renown. The best grapes, careful selection and a sensitive, clever and innovative vinification combined with a clearly recognisable signature and the already proverbial quality fanaticism.
The grapes come from the two estate-owned vineyards Pian di Fiora and La Vigna del Palo. Pian di Fiora is the cooler site with just 5 ha, the grapes are destemmed by hand and then fermented in 500l clay amphorae. The grapes from the east-facing vineyard La Vigna del Palo are fermented in open 500l barrels. The wines are then blended and matured in 300l barriques for a further 10 months before facing a further 22 months of bottle ageing.
Intense, deep red with dark ruby reflections. On the nose, fresh notes of red berry fruits and spices, hints of black pepper. The palate is complex, with gripping tannins, a fine acid wire and a wonderfully balanced body. It has great ageing potential and is for us the classic meditation wine in impression and expression. SUPERIORE.DE
"The second vintage of this single-varietal Syrah from the coast, a selection of grapes from two vineyards: still somewhat restrained nose with notes of plums, dark berries and spices; complex texture with accentuated acidity and fine-meshed tannin, the final elegant and long. Wonderfully built wine with ageing potential." Vinum
"The grapes come from the cooler, east-facing vineyard "La Vigna del Palo". They are fermented in different clay amphorae and then matured in 300-litre barriques for a further 10 months, followed by a further 22 months in bottle. The bouquet is expansively spicy, expressive, with red and a touch of green pepper, red pepper, plus tobacco, liquorice and ripe blackberries. Has become much more precise and a bit "calmer" compared to the online tasting in January, because quite young it presented itself with wild, iodine notes. It is much finer now. What has remained is the wonderful spiciness with the salty-mineral notes." Weinwisser
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2016 Le Pupille is an ambitious expression of amphorae-fermented Syrah. It presents cherry and dark plum, with earthy tones followed by tarry spice and campfire smoke. The meaty intensity normally associated with the Syrah grape is replaced here by plump and rich dark fruit. Give the wine a little extra time in your cellar to evolve and unwind." Wine Advocate
"The 2016 Syrah is a dense, potent wine. Wild cherry, game, dried herbs, menthol, licorice and coffee are front and center. This is an especially rich style. Then, again we are in Maremma. The 2016 is a bit wild, but in the best sense of the term. It will offer its finest drinking alongside similarly hearty cuisine. It was fermented in a mix of terracotta and cocciopesto, then moved into oak for 2-3 months before going into bottle, where it spent more than two years before being released." Vinous
"Fabulous complexity on the nose with crushed blackberries, chocolate, walnuts and tar. Lots of dried flowers. Full body. Layered and creamy with superb tannin texture and length. Hints of stone. Half made in amphora and half in casks. Aged one year in old casks." James Suckling

SUPERIORE.DE
"Engaging bouquet with cherry and rose notes, nuances of maquis and tobacco; precise and vertical on the palate, the tightly woven tannins and acidity in balance, the finish as long as an eel. With pasta with black truffles." Vinum
"Sangiovese from a single vineyard, located at about 300 to 350 m.a.s.l., Scansano is at about 500 m.a.s.l.; 3 to 4 weeks of maceration. Celebrates its 25th anniversary with the 2021 vintage. Auguri! Very intense, immensely engaging and densely fruity bouquet with Mediterranean maquis spice and balsamic notes, almost reminiscent of coniferous forest and asphalt, with ripe cherries and plum skin and liquorice behind. In the mouth powerful and voluminous without being fat, densely woven with sweetish, slightly roughening tannins, infused with a delicate mineral-balsamic note. What a value for money. Buy!" Weinwisser
"Rich ruby violet. Rich and appealing nose, full of plums. Has a lot of fine spice on the palate of dried herbs, sage and curry herb, substantial on the palate, already astonishingly polished tannin, lots of plums again on the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 Poggio Valente is gorgeous. Bright and vibrant in the glass with terrific energy, the Poggio Valente is a fine example of the style favored here these days. Dark red/purplish fruit, rose petal, spice and orange zest complement a core of Sangiovese fruit. I especially like the vibrancy here. The 2019 is absolutely delicious. That's all there is to it. " Vinous
"A red with intensity on a weightless frame, leaving plenty of room for cherry, blackberry, chocolate, nutmeg and white pepper flavors to shine. The tannins are present, yet uplifting rather than obtrusive." Wine Spectator
"This wine always stands out in my mind, and it's worth dedicating a few words as to why. Poggio Valente offers us a rare opportunity to taste Sangiovese made according to the highest standards but from a territory - on the Tuscan Coast - that does not share a big legacy with monovarietal Sangiovese reds. The Fattoria le Pupille 2019 Poggio Valente was born in a happy vintage with a cool spring and a growing season that had plenty of underground water reserves to keep the vines hydrated well until the end of August. This is a full and generous wine with dark cherry and wild plum aromas that segue to tar, licorice and crushed slate." Wine Advocate
"This is very dense and structured with stone and blackberry character. Full-bodied and intense with chewy tannins that frame the wine. Flavorful finish. Smoky and lightly bitter, in a good way. Pure sangiovese. This needs time to soften." James Suckling

Precise on the palate with lots of pressure and power, then towards the end the furious resolution of all the well-dosed components in a fine, silky texture and an unforgettable, long final.
Auguri! Very intense, immensely engaging and densely fruity bouquet with Mediterranean maquis spice and balsamic notes, almost reminiscent of coniferous forest and asphalt, behind which ripe cherries and plum skin as well as liquorice.

“Saffredi” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018 · Double MAGNUM in OWC
Deep dark ruby red. Floral nose with lots of red, warm fruit and delicate herbal notes. Supple and elegant on the palate with a wonderful depth and structure. Then herbs again, plus violets, some plum and a hint of tar and leather. Saffredi literally sneaks up on you until it then moves into a very long and harmonious finish with an impressive presence and finesse. One of Italy's great wines full of elegance! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, very rich ruby red with purple-violet edges. Wow, the Saffredi always reveals a fascinating orgy of scents. Dense and warm, with blackberry fruit, especially ripe blackberry and cassis, underpinned by herbaceous-ethereal and wonderfully floral notes, liquorice as well as a hint of bacon spice and earthy tobacco notes resonate. The voluminous palate is wonderfully dense and engaging, framed and supported by gripping tannins and juicy, ethereal freshness. The juicy conciseness with the deep spiciness is style-defining here, as are the apart-balsamic notes with the dark nougat chocolate and the tobacco in the final." Weinwisser
"Shiny, rich ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Very expressive and deep nose, opens with notes of tobacco and damp earth, then full of cassis, some mint in the background, multilayered. On the palate very powerful and with lots of sweet melting, dark berry fruit, plus some liquorice in the finish, very long lasting." Falstaff
"A light touch of wild herbs and oak spice frame the saturated flavors of black cherry and plum in this open-knit red, with a dusting of tannins lining the finish. Shows fine harmony and length." Wine Spectator
"The Fattoria le Pupille 2018 Saffredi borrows quite a bit from all of the grapes that make up the blend (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot). These balanced results open to a round bouquet of dark fruit, black cherry and plum. As the wine warms in the glass, it shows spice, cured tobacco and campfire embers. This is a full-bodied expression, but not excessively so. It puts forth immediate elegance with carefully measured tannins and a fitting postscript of fresh acidity. This newest vintage of Saffredi should be hitting the market now, but if you buy it, you should plan on cellaring it." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Saffredi is a regal, elegant, supremely polished wine. It may very well be the most refined Saffredi I have ever tasted. Silky in its first impression, with striking aromatic presence and exceptional balance, the 2018 is a total knock-out. Sweet red cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and cinnamon accents develop over time, but it is the wine's overall balance and poise that are so impressive today. The 2018 is an absolutely gorgeous Saffredi. Don't miss it." Vinous
"A fantastic nose to this with currant, sage, rosemary and rose-petal character. Sweet tobacco and spicy chocolate, too. Very complex. The palate shows lovely depth of fruit with blackberries, blackcurrants and fine tannins. It's racy and refined with a direct, focused palate. Just a baby. This needs at least two or three years to soften." James Suckling

Give this about three or four years of bottle age." Syrah Toscana IGT 2016 · 6 bottles in OWC
The bouquet is expansively spicy, expressive, with red and a hint of green pepper, red pepper, plus tobacco, liquorice and ripe blackberries.

When Elisabetta Geppetti swapped the lecture hall for work in the wine cellar at the age of just twenty, she dreamed of drawing the international wine world's attention to the potential of the hitherto unnoticed Maremma region. As a result, the family's old farmhouse in the midst of the Grosseto hills - which is depicted on some of their wine labels - was transformed into a modern winery in the mid-1980s.
For the ambitious winemaker, the terroir of southern Tuscany should be reflected in her top wines, which is why she planted mainly Cabernet Sauvignon instead of Sangiovese because of the Mediterranean coastal climate that prevails here. At that time, however, she could never have imagined that thanks to her knack for Bordelais varieties, Fattoria Le Pupille would actually become one of the most famous wineries in Tuscany.
"I have five children and I call Saffredi my sixth child," Elisabetta says with a laugh. To make the Maremma known as a top-class area of origin, the winemaker knew how to work with the right professionals: She laid the foundation for her success with none other than the Antinori oenologist Giacomo Tachis, who advised her in 1987 on the vinification of the Super Tuscan Saffredi, named after her father-in-law Fredi, from the varieties Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A few years later, she created her outstanding Sangiovese wine from the top vineyard Poggio Valente with the Umbrian winemaker Riccardo Cotarella, before proving with her Rosé RosaMati and the oenologist Christian Le Sommer from the Château Latour winery that it is also possible to produce absolutely outstanding Syrah wines in the Maremma. Her wine style is characterised above all by a very multi-layered aroma and an impressive continuity, which run like a red thread through the varied range.
Today, the pioneer winemaker of the Maremma is advised by the talented Andrea Lupi, who follows an ecological and biodynamic philosophy in the wine cellar and on the over 80 hectares of vineyards. Fattoria Le Pupille has thus become an extremely important flagship for the area, especially since Elisabetta is affectionately referred to as the "Signora del Morellino" and as an ambassador for the entire region because of her typical Morellino di Scansano wines.
She also passed on her passion to the family: the two eldest children, Clara and Ettore, have long been important components of Fattoria Le Pupille and, with the same ambition, produce fascinating cult wines that have completely redefined the reputation of the Maremma area. SUPERIORE.DE
"There is always a single face that stands for a region: A producer with the charisma and communicative skills to act as an ambassador to bring wines produced in a relatively obscure region to the world stage. In the Maremma, this person is Elisabetta Geppetti."Robert Parker
