    Elisabetta Geppetti has dedicated this rosato to a woman who came before her: Rosa Mati – the first in the family to believe in the Maremma when others were still looking the other way. A woman who invested when this wild coastal landscape in south-west Tuscany was not yet a wine region in the modern sense. This belief was the beginning of everything that Le Pupille is today. And the wine that bears her name is Elisabetta Geppetti's most personal work – unchanged in its conviction since the first vintage in 2002: 100 per cent Syrah, as a rosé. This is not an obvious choice. Syrah is known in Maremma primarily as a powerful red wine. To press it as a rosé – transparent, fresh, elegant – requires precision.

    The La Carla vineyard is located near Magliano at an altitude of 150 metres, on clayey-loamy soils, only 2.5 hectares in size, planted in 2000. Hand-picked in September, gentle maceration on the skins for hours, then pressing and fermentation in steel at 15 degrees. Twenty per cent matures briefly in second-use tonneau. Six months in steel. Around 12,000 bottles. Since the 2023 vintage, the wine has carried the new Maremma Toscana DOC label – another tribute to the region that Rosa Mati was once the first to see.

    Bright coral pink colour. The bouquet has an elegance that is rarely expected from a rosé wine: Wild rose, clove, strawberry, a hint of grapefruit and white pepper, with a fine mineral coolness in the background. Medium to full-bodied on the palate – unusually fleshy for a rosé, with a creamy texture, lively acidity and a slight tannic grip that reveals its Syrah origins. The finish is long and accompanied by a pleasant bitter note. Very serious. SUPERIORE.DE
