Freisa Langhe DOC 2019 vivace
The grapes for this very traditional Piedmont red wine come from selected vineyard sites on the hills of the Langhe region. The special thing about the vinification: a small part of the mash is frozen unfermented. The alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks lasts about two weeks, with very little handling and agitation of the mash. Then, without the addition of sulphurous acid, the young wine is moved to a wooden barrel where the malolactic fermentation takes place. Once this is complete, the previously frozen portion of unfermented must is added and the wine is bottled in this way. A second fermentation now takes place in the bottle, whereby these are placed upright so that the yeast deposit settles on the bottom of the bottle.
Deep ruby red. Intense aroma with fruity red and black berries and floral notes as well as nuances of asphalt. Powerful on the nose, full-bodied, with prominent tannin and fresh acidity on the palate. Fine perlage and a long, persistent final.
Please note that this wine should always be stored standing up. Also, care should be taken when opening, as the pressure may vary from bottle to bottle due to the carbonic acid naturally produced in the wine. SUPERIORE.DE

Derthona Timorasso Colli Tortonesi DOC 2020
The still young DOC Colli Tortonesi is probably still one of the most unknown wine regions of Piedmont. The term Derthona is now already used as a generic term. It is the old name for Tortona, a small town in the centre of the DOC. The autochthonous white grape variety Timorasso led a shadowy existence for many years, but today some winemakers already call it the "white Barolo". This is due on the one hand to the great complexity and finesse, and on the other hand to the excellent ageing potential of the wines. In addition, the grapes often vary in size and ripeness when harvest, which makes selection, as with the great Nebbiolo crus, a great challenge.
Pale yellow, turning golden with increasing bottle maturity. The nose is very fresh, floral and fruity, some orange confit, petrol and honey. Rich and deep on the palate, with an almost Riesling-like minerality and fine acid wire. With increasing aeration, more and more layered, complex and of a surprising depth that gives an idea of the great potential of the grape variety. Not an off-the-peg wine, but all the more convincing for those wine lovers who expect character, personality and a high degree of independence from a white wine. For us, Timorasso is THE white grape discovery of the last few years and Vietti's newcomer, along with the whites from Roagna and Walter Massa, is an excellent example of Italian white wines playing at the top of the international league! “La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2018
The extremely complex Barbera d'Asti La Crena comes from vines up to 90 years old in the heart of the Nizza Monferrato region and smells of ripe red fruits, hay and pastries. The full-bodied, warm taste lingers long with plenty of dark fruit, well-proportioned acidity and fine cocoa tones. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Vietti 2018 Barbera d'Asti La Crena sees its fruit sourced from very old vines with some of the plants approaching the 100-year-old mark. This is a rich and darkly concentrated wine with a lovely bouquet that is lifted and bright. The wine reveals dark cherry fruit, raw blackberry and plum. That opulent, old-vine fruit drowns out much of the acidic sharpness of the grape." Robert Parker
"The 2018 Barbera d'Asti La Crena is a powerful, tightly wound wine. Readers should be in no rush here. In 2019, La Crena is a bit reticent and less opulent than it can be, but then again, this is a wine that only blossoms with a few years in bottle. Inky dark fruit, gravel, smoke, crushed rocks, spice and lavender open with air, but only reluctantly. The 2018 will be a jewel for those who can wait." Vinous

“Scarrone Vigna Vecchia” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2018
Multi-layered aroma with notes of wild berries, chocolate and mint, lots of power, fruit and fullness on the palate, spicy-opulent final. A Barbera that can and should mature ... But beware, because the minimum edition of this exquisite extract from just under 1.4 hectares of vineyard is usually sold out in no time at all. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone has an extra kick of darkness, structure and overall gravitas than the regular Scarrone bottling, if that term can even be used. Scorched earth, licorice, black cherry, plum and menthol infuse the 2018 with serious depth. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It is a gorgeous wine in the making, but some of the tannin needs to melt away." Vinous

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2017
Barolo Castiglione is the best value of the house's five Barolos and impressively demonstrates Vietti's high level. It begins its grand entrance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. Mineral shades and memories of smoked meat follow. On the palate, equally layered and complex, the silky tannins grippy. Even in its younger years, it has a fine fruit and finesse that identifies it as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Barolo Castiglione is a wild, exotic wine. Super-ripe red cherry, kirsch, cinnamon, tobacco, new leather and rose petal all flesh out in this ample, voluptuous Barolo from Vietti. The 2017 is a wine of significant heft hidden behind a wall of tannin. Give it a few years to soften or open it well in advance. Time brings out striking translucence as well as finesse." Vinous
"This is one of the most versatile wines to emerge from Italy in recent years. A bread and butter winner for Vietti, the 2017 Barolo Castiglione is sharply contoured and bright, with an excellent quality of fruit that can be described as crisp, tonic and rich. That extra concentration comes in part from the hot vintage; however, the greater Castiglione growing area delivers consistent quality and persistence above all else." Robert Parker
"There's such purity of fruit to this with both dried and ripe strawberries and citrus rind. It's full-bodied and structured with layers of ripe tannins that are fine and polished. Tight at the end. Give this two or three years to open and soften." James Suckling

“Scarrone Vigna Vecchia” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2019 (BIO)
With the 2019 vintage, "Scarrone Vigna Vecchia" receives organic certification. Multi-layered aroma with notes of wild berries, chocolate and mint, lots of power, fruit and fullness on the palate, spicy-opulent final. A Barbera that can and should mature. The small edition of this exquisite extract from just under 1.4 hectares of vineyard is usually sold out in no time at all. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, rich ruby with a slight violet shimmer. Exciting and complex nose, opens with notes of dried tomatoes, pickled cherries, plums and fine chocolate. Powerful and gripping on the palate, powerful in the attack, powerful in the course, very concentrated, but somewhat detracts from the drinking flow, lots of pressure in the final." Falstaff
"The 2019 Barbera d'Alba Scarrone Vigna Vecchia naturally has a bit more volume and richness than the straight Scarrone, but the two wines are not that different in terms of personality. All the elements are dialed up to eleven. This sumptuous, flashy Barbera from 100+ year-old vines is a winner." Vinous

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2018
Barolo Castiglione 2018 is bright, fresh and clearly defined. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petals run through this beautifully shaped Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy are captivating. Castiglione is Vietti's entry-level Barolo and is always the most approachable in the bottle range, but this vintage shows a higher level of intensity, complexity and freshness. The silky tannins are accompanied by a lovely mentholated brightness into a beautiful finish. A very down-to-earth drop that unmistakably shows off its charm. SUPERIORE.DE

Barbaresco “Masseria” DOCG 2017
First bottled back in 1967, this Masseria comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. On the nose, impressive depth and intensity with bright red cherry, cranberry, chalk and floral notes. The palate is then full of aromatic complexity and power without ever losing its Vietti-typical shine. SUPERIORE.DE
"A release of 5,193 bottles, the Vietti 2017 Barbaresco Masseria opens to a spicy bouquet with a subtle point of white pepper or dried ginger that hovers over the bouquet, albeit briefly. At its core, the wine shows bright berry notes and some plum, although the wine's concentration remains finely etched and elegantly streamlined, overall." Robert Parker
"So much fruit here with dried-strawberry, floral and citrus aromas. Full-bodied with very integrated tannins that are polished and dusty, yet chewy and fine. Dry earth and berry at the end. Becomes shy and reserved. Let it open." James Suckling
"The 2017 Barbaresco Masseria is a dark, luscious wine that very clearly captures the best the vintage has to offer. Deep and beguiling, but with relatively soft contours, Vietti's 2017 shows the more virile side of Barbaresco in its distinctly Barolo-leaning structure. Black cherry, plum, lavender, menthol, spice and licorice saturate the palate. I have said it before, but it bears repeating, the Masseria is the most under the radar wine at Vietti today." Vinous

“La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC
Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza La Crena smells of ripe red fruits, hay and biscuits, the rich taste with a wonderful warmth lingers long with fine cocoa tones. SUPERIORE.DE
"A ripe, concentrated version, this offers saturated flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum, with hints of chocolate and spice. Vibrant and juicy, offsetting the firm structure." Wine Spectator
"This is a very impressive nose indeed for a Barbera, dripping in smoke, dried lavender, licorice, elderberries and herbal liqueur. Despite the exuberant initial impression, the palate is polished and suave, casting a web of neatly arranged tannins amidst plush dark fruit." James Suckling
"The 2017 Barbera d'Asti La Crena opens to all the sunshine, exuberance and richness that come with wines from this hot vintage. Barbera is one of the few grapes in Italy's repertoire of indigenous varieties that welcomes the scorching summer heat ("bring it on," it beckons). It maintains its acidity and tart berry profile despite the soaring temperatures. This is more evident with fruit from the Asti area. This wine offers textual weight all backed by tangy freshness. La Crena is partially made with fruit from old vines, planted some 90 years ago." Robert Parker
"The 2017 Barbera d'Asti La Crena is one of the most elegant versions of this wine I have ever tasted. Barbera loves the heat, and the 2017 certainly seems to have responded well to those conditions. La Crena can be a bit edgy in its youth, but the 2017 is wonderfully polished. Give it a few years in bottle to develop the full range of aromatics that make Barberas from this site so compelling. La Crena remains one of the hidden gems in the Vietti range." Vinous

Barbera d'Alba Scarrone from the vineyard of the same name is a beautifully layered, rich Barbera cru. Aromas of dark fragrant fruits, spices, liquorice and minerals. Opulent and impeccably balanced, silky tannins, sweet floral notes in the long dry finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Licorice, burnt blackberries, tea leaves and dried spices are in play. Full body. Lightly grainy tannins bring structure and gravitas to the mix." James Suckling
"The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is a rich, powerful wine. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice and wild red cherry add striking aromatic nuance. Once an inky, dark wine, Scarrone has become more refined in recent years, which also means it is a bit less immediate, but will be more nuanced in time. There is certainly plenty to look forward to here." Vinous
"This bottling from Barolo's Scarrone cru comes from 30-year-old plantings. Garden herbs, liquorice, lavender and clove infuse plum and black cherry. It's creamy in texture with plush, polished tannins, a succulent core and an energetic finish. While this doesn't have the intense concentration of the old-vine bottling, the sheer drinkability makes it just as appealing." Decanter
"Though rich and fruity, this red is also dense and muscular, featuring violet, blackberry and black plum flavors enmeshed with the thick texture. Touches of spice and graphite add depth as this cruises to a lingering finish. Shows fine balance and length." Wine Spectator
"The Vietti 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is defined by a spot of sweetness backed by generous layers of dried blackberry, plum and black cherry. This vintage offers a generous level of intensity that is soft and almost succulent in character. There is so much primary fruit in this wine, but the complexity and the varietal character of the grape remain beautifully intact nonetheless." Robert Parker

Barbaresco Roncaglie “Masseria” DOCG 2018
First bottled in 1967, the Masseria comes from a vineyard in Bricco di Neive and is essentially vinified and aged like a Barolo. The 2018 vintage - now for the first time from a small parcel that used to belong to the Barbaresco winery Socré - was also deliberately released a year later to provide more harmony and balance. Vietti's Masseria is always delicate and refined, and this is all the more true for the current vintage.
On the nose, aromas of red fruits, especially blackberries and currants, but also earthy and bloody notes. In the mouth, the polished and shiny tannins typical of the vineyard, framed by a very vertical and precise fruit and herbaceous nuances. In the long finish, a wonderful freshness, then subtle notes of menthol and again this fascinating herbal spiciness. Truly a leap in quality - Luca Currado and his team have once again done everything right. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Barbaresco Masseria Roncaglie is a captivating, layered wine full of character. Effusive aromatics make a strong opening impression. Rose petal, lavender, sage, blood orange and red berry fruit all run through this vibrant, focused Barbaresco. The 2018 is charming and nuanced from start to finish. This is the first vintage from a parcel that previously belonged to Socré. It's an impressive debut, to say the least. All this nervy Barbaresco needs is time." Vinous

“La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM

Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM
"Plenty of wild-berry character to the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with good fruit focus and firm tannin that will need a year or two to soften. Bright and youthful. Give it time. Best from 2024." James Suckling
"The 2018 Barolo Castiglione is bright, fresh and delineated. Crushed red berry fruit, white pepper, chalk, mint and rose petal all run through this gorgeous, sculpted Barolo. The purity of the fruit and overall energy here are captivating. I would cellar the 2018 for at least a few years. It's a gorgeous wine in the making." Vinous

Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011
Barolo Brunate is a generous, full-bodied wine with feminine aromas of sweet berries and milk chocolate, very balsamic and round. The taste flows with a lot of fruit, beautiful intensity and great openness. Firmly structured with silky tannins, elegant and fresh finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a wine of enormous pedigree, although it does not fully reach the aspiring heights of the 2010 and 2009 vintages immediately before it. Those wines set the bar so high, you need to settle for this wine that is a masterpiece in its own right. It offers deep, dark intensity with generous tones of ripe fruit, blackberry and red currant. Background notes of rosemary, cherry cola and licorice add vitality and focus. There is a subtle touch of softness in the mouth that is followed by firm tannins." Robert Parker
"A dark, exotic Barolo, the 2011 Brunate boasts tons of density and volume. Black cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. Ultimately, though, the 2011 is largely defined by the texture and amplitude of the year." Antonio Galloni
"A beautiful purity of fruit to this young Barolo with ripe strawberries, citrus, flowers and spice. Full body, integrated tannins and a long finish. Need another two or three years to soften." James Suckling
"Smooth and harmonious, featuring cherry, licorice, tar and underbrush flavors. The tannins are present yet integrated. Fresh and long on the finish." Wine Spectator

In medieval Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti family has been producing wines for four generations. The estate was founded at the end of the 19th century by Carlo Vietti and sold in 2016 to the Krause family (USA), which is already owned by the Barolo caller Enrico Serafino. The first wines were marketed in 1919 by Vietti's son Mario. The winery can pride itself on being the only producer in the Langhe to have the very best vineyards, such as Rocche and Villero, Brunate and Lazzarito. The vineyards were acquired by Alfredo Currado in the sixties. As one of the first oenologists in Piedmont, the winemaker, who died in 2010, had started to prepare single vineyard wines in the very place where traditional rules of conduct almost always prescribed Barolo and Barbaresco cuvées.
After Mario Cordero joined the company in 1960 and the vineyard work was handed over to Alfredos son Luca Currado, the actual triumph of the winery began. The traditional methods of winemaking have been combined with the use of modern technology, intelligent work in the vineyard and, above all, strict grape selection. On this basis, the Vietti Winery meticulously and meticulously produces extraordinarily characteristic, fruity wines with a firm body and great finesse.
Among the grape varieties, it is not only the Nebbiolo that stands out for the Barolos pressed from a balanced mixture of old and new style. The Barbera plants, which are also planted in the best locations and are just as long-lived, are also regularly found among the best wines in the house. Ob "Tre Vigne" or "Scarrone" - Besides the great Barolo wines, Luca Currados Barberas also set standards in their respective price ranges. But also Dolcetto and the white varieties Arneis and Moscato do not lag behind the high demands of the wine world. The meanwhile famous white grape Arneis owes it by the way not least to Alfredo Currado that she enjoys her present-day reputation and has not fallen into oblivion. SUPERIORE.DE
"Although winemaker at the heart of the Langhe and master of a whole range of Nebbiolo vineyards in classic locations, Luca Currado has always cultivated the Barbera as one of his trademarks."Vinum
"'Nothing at Vietti will change, if only for the better,' said Luca Currado, oenologist and chief executive of Vietti. Both he and Mario Cordero, director of marketing and sales, will stay in their posts. 'Our family has the utmost respect for what they and their families have built over five generations and do not plan to change anything,' said new owner Kyle Krause, who emphasised his Italian-American roots and love for Barolo wines."Decanter
"Vietti's 2015 Barolos are good examples of the strengths and weaknesses of the vintage as a whole. All of the wines are fresh and medium in body, with good energy and plenty of drive. At the same time, the differences between the vineyard are not quite as marked as they are in truly outstanding years. Even so, the 2015s here are brilliant. I won't be surprised if they show even better with a few more years in bottle, as they are among the most reticent 2015s I tasted." Vinous
