    • "Tre Vigne" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2018

“Tre Vigne” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2018

The grapes for Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne, which is impressive every year, come mainly from vineyards in Castiglione Falletto, with a small part of the fruit coming from Ravera. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, leather, liquorice, spices and menthol are presented here in an intoxicating, exotically ripe drop that is a pleasure to drink even when young. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is the most accessible of the five expressions of Barbera (from both Alba and Asti) made by Vietti. The 2018 Barbera d'Alba Tre Vigne opens to dark cherry and blackberry with good textural richness at the back. There is a lot of fruit fiber and support here to counter the abundant blackberry and cherry flavors that are so characteristic of this grape." Robert Parker

    • "Vigna Scarrone" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2017

“Vigna Scarrone” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2017

Barbera d'Alba Scarrone from the vineyard of the same name is a beautifully complex, rich Barbera Cru. Aromas of dark fragrant fruits, spices, liquorice and minerals. Opulent and perfectly balanced, silky tannins, sweet floral notes in the long dry aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE

"Licorice, burnt blackberries, tea leaves and dried spices are in play. Full body. Lightly grainy tannins bring structure and gravitas to the mix." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is a rich, powerful wine. Sweet tobacco, cedar, licorice and wild red cherry add striking aromatic nuance. Once an inky, dark wine, Scarrone has become more refined in recent years, which also means it is a bit less immediate, but will be more nuanced in time. There is certainly plenty to look forward to here." Vinous

"Though rich and fruity, this red is also dense and muscular, featuring violet, blackberry and black plum flavors enmeshed with the thick texture. Touches of spice and graphite add depth as this cruises to a lingering finish. Shows fine balance and length." Wine Spectator

"The Vietti 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Scarrone is defined by a spot of sweetness backed by generous layers of dried blackberry, plum and black cherry. This vintage offers a generous level of intensity that is soft and almost succulent in character. There is so much primary fruit in this wine, but the complexity and the varietal character of the grape remain beautifully intact nonetheless." Robert Parker

"A wine with a diehard fan club, the Vietti 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco drinks like a young Barolo but costs a fraction of the price. I really need to say little more because that accurately sums up the vast appeal of this classic and versatile Nebbiolo. • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2014

Barolo Castiglione is the cheapest of the five Barolo of the house and demonstrates impressively the high level of Viettis. He begins his great appearance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. Mineral shades and memories of smoked meat follow. On the palate just as complex and multi-layered, the silky tannins have a good grip. Already in his younger years he possesses a fine fruit and finesse, which identifies him as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"An array of berries and cherries with a floral sheen. Bright and attractive. The palate has a layer more than most, offering sour cherries and tangy, cherry-pip flavors in a supple, balanced style." James Suckling

"This is a terrific and flexible expression of Nebbiolo that can adopt to almost any dinner party setting. The 2014 Barolo Castiglione was designed for people who want to enjoy Barolo in an easy and direct manner. This Barolo is offered at higher production numbers, although this vintage is comparatively smaller. On average they make anywhere from 44,000 to 53,000 bottles, but in 2014 only 35,000 bottles were produced. The bouquet here is generous and broad with dark fruit, spice and tar. You even get a touch of citrus or dried orange peel. The mouthfeel is a bit thinner and more delicate in this vintage. Yet the tannins leave a firm footprint and promise a good aging future ahead." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Barolo Castiglione is superb. Nuanced, layered and sculpted in the glass, the Castiglione is a wine of real precision and class. In 2014, the Castiglione is medium in body and gracious, with perhaps a bit less stuffing than in some previous editions, but tons of persistence. Hints of lavender, rose petal and red berry fruit lead into the crystalline, translucent finish. Time in the glass brings out this gorgeous Barolo's more refined side. Once again, the Castiglione is a real overachiever. The Castiglione is built on a core of Ravera, with a complement of fruit from other sites that are often vineyard-designated by other producers." • "Scarrone Vigna Vecchia" Barbera d'Alba DOC 2017

“Scarrone Vigna Vecchia” Barbera d’Alba DOC 2017

Complex aroma with notes of wild berries, chocolate and mint, on the palate a lot of power, fruit and fullness, spicy and opulent final. A Barbera that can and should mature ... But take care, because the minimal edition of this exquisite extract from almost 1.4 hectares of vineyards is usually sold out in no time. SUPERIORE.DE

"Planted in 1918, Vietti's oldest plot of Barbera is located in the Scarrone cru, overlooking its underground cellars in Castiglione Falletto. The vines naturally yield a low 1kg per plant. Remarkably concentrated, fleshy fruit is enveloped in soft, luxurious tannins. Juicy through the core with hints of fennel and peppermint, it offers black currants, black cherry and plum flavours. This could do with an additional year in bottle but will hold brilliantly for another decade." Decanter

"The 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone is positively gorgeous. Savory, nuanced and beautifully layered in the glass, the 2017 possesses tremendous complexity and character - the brutally hot year notwithstanding. It is also very different from the straight Scarrone Barbera, which has not always been the case of late. I would prefer to cellar the 2017 for at least a few years." Vinous

"Made with precious old vines, some of which have reached the 100-year mark, the Vietti 2017 Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone is a deep, dark and luscious red wine. It tops the charts in terms of color intensity and fruit heft. The concentration and density of the wine is considerable; however, the mouthfeel never feels heavy or overdone. Yes, this is a dark and brooding Barbera, but that fresh acidity gives the wine a little skip and jump in its proverbial footsteps. That condensed fruit is followed by rusty nail, crushed stone and black licorice." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Castiglione" DOCG 2016

      Barolo “Castiglione” DOCG 2016

Barolo Castiglione is the best value of the house's five Barolos and impressively demonstrates Vietti's high level. It begins its grand entrance with dense aromas of dried cherries, plums and tar and then adds notes of white flowers and spices. Mineral shadings and memories of smoked meat follow. Equally layered and complex on the palate, grippy the silky tannins. It has a fine fruit and finesse already in younger years, which identifies it as one of the outstanding representatives of the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark shining ruby red. Open and inviting nose of very lush strawberries, underpinned by elegant spice, orange marmalade, violet scent. Shows up on the palate with tightly woven tannin and dense drink, lush cranberry, mineral undertones, bright finish, has power!" Falstaff

"While the exact blend of parcels varies from year to year, the backbone of Castiglione always comes from the Ravera cru of Novello. It has a dark and brooding character and takes time to open up. Winter mint, cedar and an intriguing earthiness offset nuances of red cherry and violets as they slowly emerge. Firm, vertical tannins shore up the palate but remain effortlessly sophisticated in this powerful and dense Barolo." Decanter

"Appealing aromas and flavors of rose, black currant, cherry, earth and tobacco mark this harmonious red, which is beautifully balanced and lingers with accents of fruit, earth and tobacco." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Barolo Castiglione is a dazzling wine that will show readers just how compelling this vintage is, even among entry-level wines from top producers. Rich, ample and explosive, the 2016 possesses tremendous richness and resonance from the very first taste. Bright red cherry and red plum fruit, wild flowers, mint, blood orange and spice build as this sumptuous, dramatic Barolo shows all it's got. As always, the Castiglione is built on a core of fruit from Ravera. In 2016, the Castiglione benefits from the inclusion of several new sites, including Ginestra, Mosconi, Bricco Ravera (in Monforte), Le Coste, Costabelle, Meriame, Briccolina and Codana. All I can say is: What a wine!" Vinous

"The Vietti 2016 Barolo Castiglione opens to a grounded and authentic profile with hints of mint, balsam herb and tilled earth. The primary fruit is neatly folded into all those other components, and all received equal billing when the final results are counted. The entry-level Castiglione is always the most accessible of Vietti's Baroli, but this vintage shows a heightened level of intensity, complexity and freshness. Those silky tannins are followed by beautiful menthol brightness. This is a real charmer." Robert Parker

"Tight and focused with racy, fine tannins. I like the bright fruit and vivid acidity. Cedar, berry and white-truffle flavors. Tight and linear. Needs time to open." James Suckling

    • "La Crena" Barbera d'Asti DOCG 2017 <br>MAGNUM in OWC

“La Crena” Barbera d’Asti DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM in OWC

Barbera d'Asti Superiore Nizza La Crena has a fragrance of ripe red fruits, hay and pastry, the rich taste with a wonderful warmth lingers long with fine cocoa tones. SUPERIORE.DE

"A ripe, concentrated version, this offers saturated flavors of blackberry, black cherry and plum, with hints of chocolate and spice. Vibrant and juicy, offsetting the firm structure." Wine Spectator

"This is a very impressive nose indeed for a Barbera, dripping in smoke, dried lavender, licorice, elderberries and herbal liqueur. Despite the exuberant initial impression, the palate is polished and suave, casting a web of neatly arranged tannins amidst plush dark fruit." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barbera d'Asti La Crena opens to all the sunshine, exuberance and richness that come with wines from this hot vintage. Barbera is one of the few grapes in Italy's repertoire of indigenous varieties that welcomes the scorching summer heat ("bring it on," it beckons). It maintains its acidity and tart berry profile despite the soaring temperatures. This is more evident with fruit from the Asti area. This wine offers textual weight all backed by tangy freshness. La Crena is partially made with fruit from old vines, planted some 90 years ago." Robert Parker

“Perbacco” Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2017 · Double-MAGNUM in OWC

Perbacco shows in the fresh bouquet first lightly leafy notes, then a lot of cherry. On the palate beautifully round, lots of ripe fruit, cherries and red berries, underlaid with fine-grained tannin, long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"A wine with a diehard fan club, the Vietti 2017 Langhe Nebbiolo Perbacco drinks like a young Barolo but costs a fraction of the price. I really need to say little more because that accurately sums up the vast appeal of this classic and versatile Nebbiolo. The bouquet is expressive and fresh with wild berries, blue flowers, spice and tobacco. Besides a bit more color concentration that you might notice in the wine's appearance, Perbacco magically shows no sign of the hot vintage." Robert Parker

    • Barolo Brunate DOCG 2009

      Barolo Brunate DOCG 2009

Viettis Barolo Brunate is fragrant and clear, intense with roses and raspberries, seductive sweet fruit notes. Also on the palate very clear and straightforward with dense tannin, nice depth and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"From one of the region’s most celebrated vineyards, the 2009 Barolo Brunate lavishes on smoky, granite and mineral notes that make this wine absolutely irresistible. Even the drawing of a snail on the label seems to hammer home one obvious point: This wine is built for longer cellaraging. Its rich texture, velvety feel and firm structure are guaranteesthat it will become increasingly elegant and finessed with time." Robert Parker

"Wonderful depth of ripe fruit on the nose with a purity andfreshness. Full body, with integrated tannins and a caressing mouthfeel. Pretty fruit character. Brunate made excellent wines in 2009." JamesSuckling

    • Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2009

      Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2009

"Rich, shiny ruby with a slight garnet shimmer. Concentrated and appealing nose, full of ripe forest berries, especially raspberry and blackberry, deep, in the background some white pepper. A polished and rich tannin on the palate, spreads beautifully, also shows rich enamel, in the finale hearty, very long reverberation." Falstaff

"Luca recently purchased more land in the Lazzarito cru. The 2009 Barolo Lazzarito delivers subdued notes of red rose and violet that build inintensity as the wine takes on more air in the glass. Black fruit, plum, cassis, leather, tar and licorice soon follow suit. This wine is anabsolute, drop-dead stunner. Its tannic crispness makes it feel livelyand buoyant in the mouth. The wine shows heft and importance that become firmly etched in the mouth. Each time I went back to the glass, thewine told a new story." Robert Parker

"A beautiful core of blueberry and strawberry fruit in this wine - structured yet very fine. It's full-bodied, with polished and fine tannins and a long, long finish. Lots of subtle mineral and milkchocolate character here." James Suckling

      Barolo Rocche DOCG 2009

The Barolo Rocche '09 is solid and complex, with notes of tobacco, aniseed and spices, for a spicy and persistent drinking maturity. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2009 Barolo Rocche is a solid, unwavering expression that brings the intensity meter even higher. Sweet red fruit, licorice, leather andmoist pipe tobacco are some of the many layers that peel back from thebouquet. The balance, structure and persistence of the wine are allsuperb." Robert Parker

"The 2009 Barolo Rocche is wonderfully open and expressive. Barolos from the best sites in Castiglione Falletto often have an uncanny ability toshow very well young, yet also age gradually with a level of finesse that is hard to see when the wines are young. I will not be surprised if that is the case here. Sweet, silky tannins provide a backdrop for beautifully pure, articulate red fruit." VINOUS

    • Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2011

      Barolo Lazzarito DOCG 2011

Top-class, complex and modern Barolo from Serralunga: Elegant, complex bouquet of cherries and blueberries, the full-bodied taste is of considerable density and length, perfectly integrates the tannins. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with a garnet shimmer. Fine and fragrant nose, opens with notes of coriander and cinchona bark, then lots of rose petals, cherry and raspberry. Stoffig and full on the palate, opens with much hearty, present tannin, deep, present dark berry fruit, long reverberation, a late fuse!" Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is a landmark wine and one of the best expressions made region-wide in this challenging vintage. The bouquet is gorgeous thanks to the never-ending aromas of dark fruit, licorice and balsam herb that peel off the top. The Lazzarito vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba is characterized by thick soils and deep shifts between daytime and nighttime temperatures. These are important factors that lead to quality fruit despite the summer heat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Lazzarito is fabulous in this vintage. Rich, ample and structured, the 2011 is both opulent and savory in style. Iron, plums, dark red cherries, smoke, licorice and tobacco meld together in a remarkably harmonious young Serralunga Barolo. This is the first year the Vietti Lazzarito includes a second recently acquired parcel, which may be one of the factors that influences quality, but at the same time, the Lazzarito has been the most improved Barolo in the range. All the elements come together in the 2011, a wine that has it all. This is a great showing from the Lazzarito. Best of all, readers won't have to wait forever to enjoy this beautiful, pedigreed Barolo." Antonio Galloni

    • Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011

      Barolo Brunate DOCG 2011

Barolo Brunate is a generous, full-bodied wine with feminine aromas of sweet berries and milk chocolate, very balsamic and round. The taste flows with a lot of fruit, beautiful intensity and great openness. Firmly structured with silky tannins, elegant and fresh finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2011 Barolo Brunate is a wine of enormous pedigree, although it does not fully reach the aspiring heights of the 2010 and 2009 vintages immediately before it. Those wines set the bar so high, you need to settle for this wine that is a masterpiece in its own right. It offers deep, dark intensity with generous tones of ripe fruit, blackberry and red currant. Background notes of rosemary, cherry cola and licorice add vitality and focus. There is a subtle touch of softness in the mouth that is followed by firm tannins." Robert Parker

"A dark, exotic Barolo, the 2011 Brunate boasts tons of density and volume. Black cherry, plum, spice, licorice, new leather and menthol are some of the many nuances that flesh out in the glass. Ultimately, though, the 2011 is largely defined by the texture and amplitude of the year." Antonio Galloni

"A beautiful purity of fruit to this young Barolo with ripe strawberries, citrus, flowers and spice. Full body, integrated tannins and a long finish. Need another two or three years to soften." James Suckling

"Smooth and harmonious, featuring cherry, licorice, tar and underbrush flavors. The tannins are present yet integrated. Fresh and long on the finish." Wine Spectator

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2011

Barolo Ravera represents the more traditional style of winemaking at Vietti. Graphite and iron aromas, with fruity sweet notes of cherry and raspberry, leather and black tea. Intense fruit with complex structure and beautifully interwoven tannin. Powerful and exceptionally stylish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby garnet. Fine nose with notes of raspberry and dark roses, flint and truffle in the background. On the palate very present, shows much fruit, at the same time fine-meshed, dense tannin, which still tolerates some storage, has very good potential, long finish." Falstaff

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera opens to a pretty garnet color and dark ruby luminosity. The wine delivers tight concentration and a fine texture that adheres closely to the palate. Blackberry, cassis, spice, leather and tobacco emerge from the glass. Barolo Ravera also offers an earthy tone of white truffle or porcino mushroom. Soft oak density and thick fruit extract give the wine beautiful, full-bodied appeal. Give it ten more years of cellar aging to lose the baby fat." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Barolo Ravera is once again the most vibrant and nuanced of the Vietti Barolos. Freshly cut flowers, crushed rocks, mint and bright red stone fruits are all shaped by a very classic sense of mineral-inflected drive that is such a Ravera signature. The 2011 is a more than worthy follow up to the epic 2010. It's great to see this high-altitude district in Novello finally getting its due." Antonio Galloni

"Cherry and plum flavors permeate this rich, powerful red. Accented by menthol and leather, this is balanced and fresh, with a lingering aftertaste of mineral and tobacco." Wine Spectator

"Engaging scents of wild berry, rose petal, aromatic herb and spice lead the nose. The full-bodied palate slowly reveals red cherry, anise, black pepper, clove and tobacco framed in assertive tannins and bright acidity. Give this time to fully open and develop." Wine Enthusiast

On the palate, it is striking, very substantial, deep, ripe fruit and earthy notes, opens with taut tannins in many layers, in the finish firm pressure, salty and long". Falstaff

"This Barolo offers the trademark power and integrity that is so distinctive of wines made in Serralunga d'Alba. The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito delivers muscle, brawn, and an endearing sense of confidence and determination. The is a lovely interpretation that opens to dark fruit aromas that are sharply framed by spice, tobacco, tilled earth and cooling menthol. The overall effect is generous, well-structured and full-bodied. This wine is poised to age over the next twenty years." Robert Parker

"The 2012 Barolo Lazzarito impresses for its precision and class, two qualities that aren't easy to find in wines from this Serralunga site. Iron, smoke and white pepper lift from the glass in a vertical, structured Barolo endowed with real pedigree. A rush of pomegranate, red cherry jam, wild flowers and blood orange meld into the huge, bright finish. In 2012, the Lazzarito reconciles power and finesse like few vintages in the past. For the last few years, the Lazzarito has been knocking on the door of the big boys in this lineup, the Rocche and Ravera. Today, the Lazzarito makes a strong statement that it has arrived." "It's hard not to fall in love with the 2012 Barolo Brunate. This is an uneven vintage across the appellation, but Vietti has managed to harness the very best side of the grape during this growing season. The wine is densely concentrated and rich with black cherry, cassis and spice. It shows firm structure at the back with elegantly polished and fine-tuned tannins. The wine is almost approachable now (in another five years), but is more suitable for longer bottle aging." Robert Parker

    • Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2012

Barolo Rocche di Castiglione DOCG 2012

Young and fresh, rich ruby garnet, complex, very aromatic bouquet, strong tannin, lots of fruit, fine melt, cleanly structured, harmoniously balanced, long finish. Store it as best you can and enjoy the anticipation! SUPERIORE.DE

"Velvety, rich ruby. Very present and fresh nose, full of plums, raspberries and cranberries, appealing. Very juicy at the base, opens with fine, dense tannin, beautiful enamel, spreads for a long time, firm pressure in the finale". Falstaff

"The 2012 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is one of the bigger, richer wines in the lineup, which is a bit atypical. Readers should expect a huge, dramatic Rocche built on power, intensity and volume. At the same time, the Rocche is incredibly precise and layered. It is that very interplay of richness and finesse that makes the Rocche so alluring. Rose petal, mint and sweet red berries build to a crescendo of aromas, flavors and textures that takes over all the senses." Antonio Galloni

"Wow. The rose petal aroma is gorgeous with ripe strawberry and cherry undertones. Full body, dense and powerful. Chewy and rich tannins. Lasts for minutes on the palate." James Suckling

    About the winemakersViettiPiedmont
    Vietti

In medieval Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti family has been producing wines for four generations. The estate was founded at the end of the 19th century by Carlo Vietti and sold in 2016 to the Krause family (USA), which is already owned by the Barolo caller Enrico Serafino. The first wines were marketed in 1919 by Vietti's son Mario. The winery can pride itself on being the only producer in the Langhe to have the very best vineyards, such as Rocche and Villero, Brunate and Lazzarito. The vineyards were acquired by Alfredo Currado in the sixties. As one of the first oenologists in Piedmont, the winemaker, who died in 2010, had started to prepare single vineyard wines in the very place where traditional rules of conduct almost always prescribed Barolo and Barbaresco cuvées.

After Mario Cordero joined the company in 1960 and the vineyard work was handed over to Alfredos son Luca Currado, the actual triumph of the winery began. The traditional methods of winemaking have been combined with the use of modern technology, intelligent work in the vineyard and, above all, strict grape selection. On this basis, the Vietti Winery meticulously and meticulously produces extraordinarily characteristic, fruity wines with a firm body and great finesse.

Among the grape varieties, it is not only the Nebbiolo that stands out for the Barolos pressed from a balanced mixture of old and new style. The Barbera plants, which are also planted in the best locations and are just as long-lived, are also regularly found among the best wines in the house. Ob "Tre Vigne" or "Scarrone" - Besides the great Barolo wines, Luca Currados Barberas also set standards in their respective price ranges. But also Dolcetto and the white varieties Arneis and Moscato do not lag behind the high demands of the wine world. The meanwhile famous white grape Arneis owes it by the way not least to Alfredo Currado that she enjoys her present-day reputation and has not fallen into oblivion. SUPERIORE.DE

"Although winemaker at the heart of the Langhe and master of a whole range of Nebbiolo vineyards in classic locations, Luca Currado has always cultivated the Barbera as one of his trademarks."Vinum

"'Nothing at Vietti will change, if only for the better,' said Luca Currado, oenologist and chief executive of Vietti. Both he and Mario Cordero, director of marketing and sales, will stay in their posts. 'Our family has the utmost respect for what they and their families have built over five generations and do not plan to change anything,' said new owner Kyle Krause, who emphasised his Italian-American roots and love for Barolo wines."Decanter

"Vietti's 2015 Barolos are good examples of the strengths and weaknesses of the vintage as a whole. All of the wines are fresh and medium in body, with good energy and plenty of drive. At the same time, the differences between the vineyard are not quite as marked as they are in truly outstanding years. Even so, the 2015s here are brilliant. I won't be surprised if they show even better with a few more years in bottle, as they are among the most reticent 2015s I tasted." Vinous
