Bright ruby and a full bouquet of dark berry fruit such as blackcurrant, the Fontanelle shows in the glass. Its primary aromas emerge with an incredible freshness, simplicity and directness. Dense and round, the juicy, fresh taste unfolds on the palate with Barbera-typical acidity and well-integrated tannin. With its tangy acidity and alcohol content of 14.5%, one should have a cheesy risotto ready to support it. SUPERIORE.DE

Pelaverga Verduno DOC 2022
Bright ruby red with violet reflections, almost dark pink in the glass. Exciting nose of white pepper and raspberries, accompanied by some rosehip confit. In the drink very fresh, lively dancing, with a nice mineral-salty note and fresh, full fruit. This red wine is just as much fun with hearty grilled dishes as it is on the terrace in the evening sun. An unmistakable wine from the almost disappeared grape variety Pelaverga piccolo with a lot of personality! SUPERIORE.DE

Barolo DOCG 2019 (blue label)
The Nebbiolo grapes of Matteo's entry-level Barolo come from his three vineyards Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra and Verduno. Bright garnet red. Precisely balanced bouquet of wild berries, rose petals and beautiful herbal spice. On the palate, bright acidity, perfectly integrated tannins and a beautifully developed primary fruit. Already very accessible when young, it will nevertheless increase in complexity with the years. Excellent value! SUPERIORE.DE
"The Ascheri 2019 Barolo with its fun retro label shows classic Nebbiolo aromas with red currant, iris, rusty nail and liquorice. On the palate, the wine is very pleasing even at this young stage thanks to its fresh acidity and integrated tannins. This is a nice bottle for medium-term consumption. The fruit comes from La Morra, Verduno and Serralunga d'Alba." Wine Advocate

“Montalupa” Rosso Langhe DOC 2015
Matteo Ascheri shows a fascination for the grape varieties of the Rhône Valley and produces a single-varietal Syrah of the extra class in extremely small quantities every year. What is also special about it is that it does not stereotypically join the ranks of the well-known great Syrahs from California, France and Australia – quite the opposite.
A balsamic drop opens up here with an intense bouquet of cherry, rosemary and traces of ginger. On the palate, it shines with a freshness, intensity and an exciting potpourri of teriyaki spice, smoke, again cherry and notes of smoked meat. Its impressive texture and a full, long finish make this –experience unforgettable! SUPERIORE.DE

Barolo “Pisapola” DOCG 2016
Pisapola, from the vineyard of the same name in the municipality of Verduno, offers a beautiful richness of texture and an impressive softness. This wine is open and honest, with an approachable style that highlights red cherries, undergrowth, wild berries and roses in a very harmonious way. The tannin is precisely measured, and on the finish its harmony and balance again delight. Not a powerhouse, it highlights the character and elegance of this great Nebbiolo site all the more amiably and authentically. SUPERIORE.DE
"Tasted blind. Mid ruby with orange tinges. Compact and still-subdued nose with a hint of Moroccan leather. Supple and generous palate that is not yet entirely open. Polished, chewy tannins tasting of liquorice. Long but needs more time in the bottle to reveal its hidden depths." Jancis Robinson
"The 2016 Barolo Pisapola is the most airy and perfumed of the wines in this range. Crushed flowers, mint, cedar sweet pipe tobacco and red berry fruit all grace this finely-knit, mid-weight Barolo. The 2016 is understated, classy and very pretty." Vinous
"The Ascheri 2016 Barolo Pisapola is the most immediate and accessible of the single-vineyard series of wines offered by Matteo Ascheri, and this makes perfect sense given the younger, geologically speaking, Tortonian marl and Messinian calcareous clays of the site. The Pisapola cru is located in Verduno, and the wine reveals a looser, thinner texture that is characteristic of this subzone. The bouquet is subtle and elegant, although the wine's overall intensity clocks in at a lower threshold compared to some of the better-known comuni or villages of the Barolo appellation. It delivers a mild structure and a silky close." Wine Advocate
"Rose, forest-berry, underbrush and new leather aromas shape the elegant nose. The savory palate mirrors the nose, featuring ripe Marasca cherry, licorice, menthol and a mineral note evoking rusty nail. Taut, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity provide support while a hint of game signals the close." Wine Enthusiast

Barolo “Sorano” DOCG 2016
Matteo's classic from the municipality of Serralunga d'Alba. Sorano shows exactly the weight and strength that we associate with this unique subzone of Barolo. The strong side of Nebbiolo is the focus here, the freshness of the fruit recedes nobly, yet noticeably into the background. Aromas of dried blackberries, ploughed earth, tobacco and crushed rock. Gripping tannins on the finish require a longer aeration, and with further aging in the bottle, lovers of strong Barolo will be in their element. SUPERIORE.DE
"Matteo Ascheri favors short, hot fermentations, adding an immediate layer of power and intensity that you feel right off the bat, especially in a classic vintage such as this. His 2016 Barolo Sorano definitely shows the darker color and thicker flavor concentration that comes with fruit grown in Serralunga d'Alba. The wine's bouquet is generous and rich with red rose petal, licorice, tar and smoky road asphalt. As is to be expected, the tannins are more prominent in the Barolo Sorano, with a pinch of tightness that needs a few extra years of bottle aging to soften. What really drives this wine forward is the quality and the contained intensity of the 2016 fruit. It's a classic for sure, although patience is required." Wine Advocate
"Earthy and loaded with personality, this full-bodied red has aromas of camphor, new leather, game and ripe black-skinned fruit. On the concentrated palate, chewy tannins accompany fleshy Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, truffle and tobacco." Wine Enthusiast

Barolo “Ascheri” DOCG 2016
Matteo describes it as a wine that has as much to do with the place as with its family roots: coincidentally, his surname Ascheri is also the official name of the vineyard located in the municipality of La Morra. For this top wine of the house, as for the Coste & Bricco, the following applies: Barolo Ascheri is only produced in the best years.
Its bouquet and also its complex taste make it the most complete wine of the house. Wonderful in precision and structure, this Barolo has the highest recognition value in this top vintage and at the same time represents the signature of the house in an impressive way. SUPERIORE.DE
"New leather, camphor, wild berry and fragrant blue-flower aromas mingle together on this structured red. It's full bodied and dense, delivering succulent morello cherry, crushed raspberry licorice and tobacco framed in firm, fine-grained tannins. You'll also detect the warmth of evident alcohol, but thanks to the concentrated fruit, it doesn't dominate." Wine Enthusiast
"The Ascheri 2016 Barolo Ascheri is a beautiful wine that reveals a broad range of classic Nebbiolo aromas. The wine's bouquet is stirring and deep with cleverly contained intensity. As I mentioned before, the Ascheri winemaking process sees a short 16-day fermentation, at 30 degrees Celsius in the case of this wine. As a result, the aromas are clear, strong and direct. You could apply any number of descriptors to describe the bouquet: dried cherry fruit, rose, pressed violets, crushed stone, red clay and autumnal leaf. The wine is well supported at the back by firm tannins that come thanks to this classic, cellar-worthy vintage." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Coste & Bricco” DOCG 2016
We are overjoyed that we were able to obtain some wooden boxes of this extremely rare and only in the very best vintages produced drop. It is not for nothing that he leads the exclusive selection of Matteo's "collectible wines".
Sparkling ruby grenade. Clearly defined, fine nose with pronounced notes of raspberry and plum, with thyme in the background. Very polished and delicate on the nose, the aroma is incredibly complex with notes of wild berries, cherries, spices and herbs. On the palate with a firm pressure, yet very juicy and in the finish with an elegance and potential that is second to none. Whoever does not let this already almost perfect wine mature in the cellar for another five or more years will miss a lot! SUPERIORE.DE
"This is the top-shelf wine from Matteo Ascheri and also the wine with the smallest production numbers, with just 2,800 bottles made. Fruit comes from two parcels in the Sorano cru of Serralunga d'Alba: the Vigna Coste and the Vigna Bricco. The 2016 Barolo Coste & Bricco is indeed profound and compelling, thanks to its very elegant and powerful DNA. This wine sneaks up on the senses with mounting intensity that starts off with red fruit and wild berries and eventually transitions to white licorice, ash, smoke and pretty mineral nuances. The wine is focused and bright with abundant Nebbiolo typicity. Fermentation is short at just two weeks, and the wine ages in 18-hectoliter new and used oak for 22 months. I see that the prices of Ascheri's wines seem to reflect availability; however, the quality is excellent, making this bottle ever more precious." Wine Advocate

The Ascheri winery is undoubtedly one of the best wine producers in Piedmont because of its outstanding wines. This place in the premier league does not come by chance: Through a natural, precise working method with selected grape clones that thrive in the best vineyard sites of the region, Matteo Ascheri brings out the maximum expressive potential of the Piedmontese terroir in his wines.
Today, Ascheri Vini has three wineries: Podere di Rivalta in La Morra-Verduno, Podere di Sorano in Serralunga and Podere di Montalupa near Bra. The very high-quality portfolio includes a Metodo Classico sparkling wine and typical white wines of Piedmont such as Arneis, Moscato d'Asti and Gavi. The red wines are limited to the great Piedmontese classics such as Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto and of course Barolo. This wide-ranging selection is characterised by elegance and finesse and over the years has made a good name for itself with many international wine critics.
The Nebbiolo vines in Serralunga d'Alba grow on a soil that has both sandstone and limestone. At an altitude of 280-350 m, in perfect south/south-west exposure, the Barolo Sorano and the Barolo Coste & Bricco, recognisable by their blue capsule. Wines with a red capsule are in turn produced at the Rivalta winery, which has excellent sites in the communes of La Morra and Verduno and processes diverse grape varieties such as Barbera, Dolcetto and Nebbiolo.
While in the classic Barolo DOCG region, tradition is the watchword, in the Roero region, innovation reigns supreme, as the winery in Bra follows a completely different philosophy. A variety of white and red grape varieties thrive on sandy seabed on the Montalupa hill. Due to the orientation between tradition and modernity, the wines are mainly matured in large barrels and barriques are largely dispensed with.
Matteo Ascheri is the sixth generation to cultivate the best sites around the municipalities of Bra, La Morra and Serralunga d'Alba. He is assisted by oenologist Giuliano Bedino and agronomist Edoardo Monticelli, who have been familiar with the growing area for years and ultimately produce individual wines in a largely traditional style that, depending on the vineyard site, bring out the best interpretation of the area.
The approach to wine production has remained the same since the winery was founded in 1880: The freshly harvested grapes should retain their typical characteristics. The use of technological methods and the influence of wood are therefore limited as far as possible in order to express the vineyard, the grape variety and the philosophy of the traditional winery as clearly as possible in the bottle.
Matteo Ascheri tells us in conversation: "I have the ambition to produce natural wines whose concentration, quality, balance and elegance correspond to the vineyard in question. Our task is not only to produce great wines in optimal vintages - which can be very easy, relatively speaking - but to produce good wines from difficult vintages, which is extremely complicated.
