From the south-eastern shore of Lake Garda, where moraine soils give the vines mineral depth. Corvina (65%), Rondinella (25%) and Molinara (10%) produce a light, uncomplicated red. Ruby red in colour, with notes of cherry and violet. Dry, spicy, with a fine almond flavour on the finish. Ten days of maceration in stainless steel preserve the fruit and keep the wine lean. Cantine Due Palme is one of the most successful co-operatives in southern Italy – founded in 1989 in Cellino San Marco, the cooperative now has over 1,200 members and around 3,000 hectares of vineyards between Brindisi, Lecce and Taranto. Under the management of Angelo Maci, Due Palme has developed into a pioneer of sustainable quality production, combining state-of-the-art cellar technology with traditional cultivation methods such as Alberello Pugliese. Don Cosimo epitomises the sun-drenched power of Salento. The Primitivo grapes ripen on calcareous, loamy soils that store sufficient water even in very hot weather. After a gentle harvest in mid-September, the grapes ferment at a controlled temperature in horizontal rotary fermenters before the wine matures for six months in French barriques and then comes to rest in the bottle.

Poggio Bonelli in Castelnuovo Berardenga looks back on a centuries-old tradition – coveted over the centuries by Siena's most prestigious noble families, from the medieval Spennali to the powerful Piccolomini and the Chigi Saracini. Today, Villa Chigi honours the memory of Count Guido Chigi Saracini, who was not only a passionate wine lover but also founded the famous Accademia Chigiana in 1932. The vineyards are perched 280 metres above sea level on the sun-drenched southern slopes of the Chianti zone around Castelnuovo Berardenga. Here, between the warm, typically Mediterranean Chianti hills and the plains of the Crete Senesi, the vines benefit from excellent breezes and air circulation, which limit the risk of water stagnation and humidity. The special transitional soils between clayey, sandy sediments and atypical Chianti soils create ideal conditions for Sangiovese.

Fattoria del Cerro in Acquaviva di Montepulciano is the largest private vineyard in the region with a total area of 600 hectares and 181 hectares of vines – mainly known for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Its Chianti Colli Senesi comes from 20 hectares of vineyards in the Sienese hills and is mainly made from Sangiovese (90 per cent) with Merlot (10 per cent). After manual harvesting, fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks with eight to ten days of maceration, followed by three months of ageing in large Slavonian oak barrels.

Sensual Nero d'Avola with soul – materico brings southern Italy into everyday life. The wine comes from organically cultivated vines around Salaparuta (Trapani) from chalky soils, which give it broodingstructure but also a mineral flavour. After classic fermentation in stainless steel, it matures there for around four months – enough time to bring fruit and balance into a stylish and fresh harmony. Dark purple in the glass with violet reflections. An aromatic profile of ripe red fruit, cherry, orange peel and wild berries on the nose – accompanied by fine pepper, clove and an earthy hint of dark chocolate. Smooth and structured on the palate: lively fruit, delicate warmth, a structured but soft tannin flavour and a pleasantly salty, spicy finish. Since its creation in 1998, Vitiano Rosso has been one of the most successful Italian red wines on the international market – a classic that masterfully combines tradition and modernity. The grapes grow on the hills around Orvieto, where sedimentary limestone-clay soils with volcanic influences form the basis, at an altitude of around 300 metres. The blend of one third each of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon is vinified separately: Merlot contributes fullness and velvety texture, Cabernet Sauvignon lends structure and depth, while Sangiovese provides balance with its lively acidity.

“SanGaetano” Primitivo di Manduria DOP 2023
The name SanGaetano tells of the co-operative tradition: in 2012, Cantine Due Palme took over the small Cooperativa San Gaetano in Lizzano in order to expand the production of Primitivo di Manduria in a targeted manner. This DOC appellation has long been recognised as one of the most important red wine denominations in Apulia – appreciated both in Italy and internationally. The Primitivo vines grow on the characteristic red-coloured soils of Manduria, whose clay-limestone structure is rich in minerals and iron oxides. These soils with their rocky limestone subsoil have a decisive influence on the character of the wine. The grapes are harvested by hand in small crates at the end of August or beginning of September when they are slightly overripe to guarantee the highest quality. After temperature-controlled fermentation, the SanGaetano matures for six months in American oak barrels – an ageing process that refines the tannins and gives the wine additional complexity.
