    • "Rosé di Neré" Nero d'Avola Terre Siciliane IGT 2019

“Rosé di Neré" Nero d’Avola Terre Siciliane IGT 2019

The Nero d'Avola grapes come from vines up to 30 years old in the Noto region. Animating delicate fruity notes of pineapple and raspberry. Round, full and wonderfully drinkable on the palate, with beautiful fruit, spice and a cool, fresh final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright gold with pinkish tinge. Spontaneous fermentation notes, dicey yeast, quite corpulent in the mouth, strong acidity, a rather fine palate fruit, the finish is substantial with a slight brittleness or astringency, a very unusual rosé." Falstaff

"The 2019 Feudo Maccari Rose di Nero d’Avola lifts from the glass with an intense and spicy display, showing dried peaches and mango with exotic floral perfumes, white smoke, and hints of ginger. On the palate, silky textures usher in ripe fruit, leaning more toward the tropical spectrum, with contrasting green citrus and minerals. The finish is long, seaming to coat the senses in liquid florals while tapering off with a mouthwatering tug of residual acids." Vinous

    • "Maharis" Syrah Sicilia DOC 2016

      “Maharis” Syrah Sicilia DOC 2016

2016 was a very balanced wine year in Sicily and this exceptional wine is the current example of how the Syrah grape variety in particular can reach its peak in this exciting wine region.

Deep dark, sparkling ruby red. In the bouquet an opulent dark red fruit basket, intense and full-bodied. Already in the first sip a depth, which looks for unequalled in this price range. It is almost spectacular in which heights this wine is able to carry the connoisseur. He always convinces with an indescribable balance. Maharis is never fat or marmalade, but his potpourri of dark fruits, spices, mature leather and a subtle smoky note is always in balance with a surprising freshness and liveliness. In the finale it closes long, velvety and with rich texture. Great. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling ruby with a slight violet hue. Opened with pronounced spicy notes, cardamom and eucalyptus, beautiful blueberry fruit, very clear. On the palate, polished and juicy, tannin with a good grip, a pithy finish." Falstaff

"An elegant, medium- to full-bodied Syrah, with muscular tannins providing fine definition for the flavors of black plum, olive tapenade and fig cake, showing minerally smoke and iron accents. Offers a well-spiced, chewy finish." Wine Spectator

"A spicy syrah that shows lots of freshness with balsamic, crushed stones, violets and black pepper. Full body, steely tannins and a mineral finish. Shows excellent composure and definition." James Suckling

"The 2016 Sicilia Syrah Mahâris is an inky dark and concentrated wine that marries the warmth of Sicily to heat-loving Syrah. You get some varietal tones of white pepper, bacon fat and chocolate, but these aromas are not as prominent as you might find in the great Syrahs of the Old and New World. In the case of this wine, that sunny Sicilian softness takes center stage and shapes sweet fruit and dark cherry flavors. To me, the Sicilian identity is ultimately stronger in this vintage of Mahâris than its varietal identity. That's what I love best about this wine." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Feudo Maccari
    Sicily
    Feudo Maccari

The magnificent Feudo Maccari winery, managed by Antonio Moretti, is situated between Noto and Pachino in the province of Syracuse, in a lush Baroque landscape and thus in one of the best wine-growing areas in Sicily. The winegrower, who is firmly anchored in his Tuscan homeland as the owner of the Tenuta Sette Ponti and the Poggio al Lupo estate, began a new wine adventure immediately after the turn of the millennium out of love for the beautiful and wild nature of the Mediterranean island. Together with his daughter Monica, he brought about half of the total area of the old fief for the cultivation of vines to fruition. Moretti has thus gradually restored the former glory of the long neglected cultivation zone. In the family business, the grapes - including newly planted vines - are grown using the Alberello method. Feudo Maccari includes several residences, a guest house, a wine tasting room and a restored and functionally equipped wine cellar surrounded by vineyards.

The buscher education after the Alberello procedure in the midst of lemon, carob and almond trees, dwarf palms and olive groves has a long tradition in the eastern part of Sicily. The area between Noto and Pachino is also particularly suitable for the cultivation of Nero d'Avola. The Sicilian red parade variety and speciality of Feudo Maccari can play out its characteristics particularly well here thanks to the special microclimate and the extremely fertile volcanic soil. Cultivated in the winery next to Nero d'Avola the local white wine variety Grillo as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Moscato. It is also thanks to the Moretti family that some vines planted about 60 years ago have been revived in all the old vineyards.

The Feudo Maccari winery is located as the crow flies a few kilometres from the Ionian Sea and just a stone's throw from the Vendicari Nature Reserve. In addition to the special climatic conditions, the meticulous work in the vineyard ensures healthy and optimally ripening grapes. The different characteristics of the terrain - black and white, clayey and calcareous - as well as the differences in altitude and exposure of the sites, make Feudo Maccari an extremely complex, delicious and terroir-true wine of impressive quality, characterised by great strength of character and elegance. Since the first bottlings, the labels of the Sicilian wine house have been convincing with a precise and clearly defined style, accompanied by only a few human interventions. With the support of the oenology team of Carlo Ferrini and Gioia Cresti, all the red wines are aged in French oak barrels. SUPERIORE.DE

"Moretti was attracted to Sicilian viticulture from an early age and set out to produce great Sicilian red wines that matched his Supertoscans." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

"The wines are all of excellent quality and more concerned with elegance and finesse than with concentration."Gambero Rosso
