The Nero d'Avola grapes come from vines up to 30 years old from the Noto region. Animatingly delicate fruity notes of pineapple and raspberry. Round, full and wonderfully drinkable on the palate, with beautiful fruit, spice and a cool, fresh final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Medium-bodied sparkling salmon pink. On the nose tones of pink grapefruit and then white peach, slightly smoky. A nice freshness and minerality on the palate, final long and salty." Falstaff

“Saia” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2018
This single-varietal Nero d'Avola is bursting with dark aromas of berries, black cherry, liquorice and tobacco. Lush and distinctive on the palate with wonderful spicy notes of mint, anise and espresso. Juicy tannin, good length, fine pressure. A very great wine at an impressively reasonable price! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark shining ruby with a tendency to garnet. Restrained, yet spicy nose, lightly of cherry compote and raspberry syrup. Compact on the palate with delicate fruit melting, spans a fine fan, rich in structure and with good length." Falstaff
"The 2018 Nero d'Avola Saia is dark and rich with sweet herbs, tobacco and balsamic spice giving way to ripe plums. Its fleshy textures envelope the palate in an intense wave of ripe black fruits, balanced by brisk acids and saline-mineral tones that add a more grippy feel toward the close. Notes of sage and blackberries linger long through the finale, over a coating of round tannins. The 2018 is showing very nicely, but it should also mature well through medium-term cellaring." Vinous
"Candied violet and spice aromatics on the nose accent flavors of black raspberry preserves, red licorice, fig cake and loamy earth in this fresh, fragrant and medium- to full-bodied red. Fine-grained tannins emerge to firm the finish." Wine Spectator
"Sweet and sour-cherry with walnut and toasted-oak aromas that follow through to a full body with juicy fruit and chewy tannin on the palate. Savory. Smoky meat at the end with lovely fruit." James Suckling

“Family & Friends” Rosso Terre Siciliane IGT 2017
"Only the best grapes" adorns the label. Dark ruby red, in the bouquet fine notes of dark fruits, herbal spice and delicately toasted wood. Impressive elegance and clarity on the palate, the fruit is always fresh and present, the polished tannins lead this almost Burgundian red into a wonderful final. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Rosso Family and Friends is dark and brooding, showing black cherries, balsam herbs and a lifting hint of menthol. The textures are silky-smooth, ushering in an elegant wave of ripe red and black fruits, which give way to a more tactile mix of savory spice and minerals. The tannins are round, framing the experience nicely while not getting in the way, as this tapers off to hints of licorice and tobacco." Vinous
"Here's a new wine from Feudo Maccari. The 2017 Rosso Family and Friends comes from a hot vintage, and in addition to ripeness, it delivers good structure and tight (almost astringent) tannins with lots of pretty fruit layering at its core. This is a solid and long-lasting blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Syrah to pair with a classic steak au poivre and a side of fries to soak up the cream sauce. This wine is almost Tuscan in character although that extra ripeness brings you straight to Sicily." Robert Parker
"A firm and chewy red with blackberries, spice, slate and dark chocolate. Full body. Lots of tannins. Flavorful finish. A solid and structured red. Needs time to soften. Blend of cabernet sauvignon and syrah. Better in 2021." James Suckling

“Maharis” Syrah Sicilia DOC 2018
Deep dark, sparkling ruby red. On the nose, an opulent dark red fruit basket, intense and full. Already in the first sip, a depth that is unparalleled in this price range. The heights to which this wine is capable of carrying the connoisseur are nothing short of spectacular. At the same time, it always convinces with an indescribable balance. Maharis is never fat or jammy, but its potpourri of dark fruits, spices, matured leather and a subtle smoky note is always balanced with a surprising freshness and liveliness. The final is long, velvety and richly textured. Great! SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark shining ruby red. In the nose very spicy, slightly animal, in the aftertaste of ripe and rich cherries, repeatedly pepper-spicy. On the palate then with clear and radiant fruit underpinned by fine spice, shows grippy tannin, juicy, slightly salty on the final, remains sturdy and long on the palate." Falstaff
"The 2017 Syrah Maharis hails from the calcareous soils of the Val di Noto. Here I’m finding a dramatic display of crushed blackberry, smoke and wild herbs, further evolving to show hints of plum and dark chocolate. It's silky in texture yet immediately firmed up with a display of tart black fruit accompanied by an orange zest twang, savory spice and zesty acids. Youthful, fine tannins saturate, creating a grippy and poised finale with inner violet florals and hints of licorice slowly tapering off." Vinous
"With fruit from alberello vines at just 80 meters above the Mediterranean Sea level, the Feudo Maccari 2018 Sicilia Syrah Mahâris lavishes on thick, sweet and super ripe aromas of black fruit and spice. The wine carries a great deal of fruit weight and concentration, with abundant ripeness that renders a soft and rich approach to the palate. Sicily and Syrah always make a great combination, and this wine offers a good representation of that natural symbiosis." Robert Parker
"Lots of blackberries and savory oregano on the nose and palate with meat and hints of sour cherries. It’s full-bodied, tightly structured, racy and long. Polished and delicious now. Drink and enjoy." James Suckling

The magnificent Feudo Maccari winery, managed by Antonio Moretti, is situated between Noto and Pachino in the province of Syracuse, in a lush Baroque landscape and thus in one of the best wine-growing areas in Sicily. The winegrower, who is firmly anchored in his Tuscan homeland as the owner of the Tenuta Sette Ponti and the Poggio al Lupo estate, began a new wine adventure immediately after the turn of the millennium out of love for the beautiful and wild nature of the Mediterranean island. Together with his daughter Monica, he brought about half of the total area of the old fief for the cultivation of vines to fruition. Moretti has thus gradually restored the former glory of the long neglected cultivation zone. In the family business, the grapes - including newly planted vines - are grown using the Alberello method. Feudo Maccari includes several residences, a guest house, a wine tasting room and a restored and functionally equipped wine cellar surrounded by vineyards.
The buscher education after the Alberello procedure in the midst of lemon, carob and almond trees, dwarf palms and olive groves has a long tradition in the eastern part of Sicily. The area between Noto and Pachino is also particularly suitable for the cultivation of Nero d'Avola. The Sicilian red parade variety and speciality of Feudo Maccari can play out its characteristics particularly well here thanks to the special microclimate and the extremely fertile volcanic soil. Cultivated in the winery next to Nero d'Avola the local white wine variety Grillo as well as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Moscato. It is also thanks to the Moretti family that some vines planted about 60 years ago have been revived in all the old vineyards.
The Feudo Maccari winery is located as the crow flies a few kilometres from the Ionian Sea and just a stone's throw from the Vendicari Nature Reserve. In addition to the special climatic conditions, the meticulous work in the vineyard ensures healthy and optimally ripening grapes. The different characteristics of the terrain - black and white, clayey and calcareous - as well as the differences in altitude and exposure of the sites, make Feudo Maccari an extremely complex, delicious and terroir-true wine of impressive quality, characterised by great strength of character and elegance. Since the first bottlings, the labels of the Sicilian wine house have been convincing with a precise and clearly defined style, accompanied by only a few human interventions. With the support of the oenology team of Carlo Ferrini and Gioia Cresti, all the red wines are aged in French oak barrels. SUPERIORE.DE
"Moretti was attracted to Sicilian viticulture from an early age and set out to produce great Sicilian red wines that matched his Supertoscans." Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
"The wines are all of excellent quality and more concerned with elegance and finesse than with concentration."Gambero Rosso
