• Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

Intense, very dense bouquet of blackberries and blackcurrants. Clear and juicy on the palate, harmonious with lots of fresh fruit, underpinned by grippy tannin with a nice acid wire. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is dark, displaying herbal-infused red berries, with savory spice and worn leather perfume. On the palate, I'm finding soft, enveloping textures, with a mix of bright cherries and strawberries, as saline-minerality and savory spices settle on the senses. The finish is medium in length, resonating on a note of hard red candies, yet remaining fresh with a flourish of brisk acids which make the mouth water for more." Vinous

    • Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2019

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2019

Stylish and authentic interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. Medium garnet red, bright aromas of sour cherry, red currant, blue flowers and a hint of bitter almond. Firm and lively on the palate, with present acidity and well-structured tannins. A wonderfully compact, authentic Tuscan and for us the ideal companion of strong pasta dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is drop-dead gorgeous, slowly unfolding in the glass; at first smokey and herbal, yet gaining depths of dark red fruits and sweet spice over time. It’s silky-smooth in texture, contrasted by savory wild berry, plum and zesty acids, with purple tinged inner florals amassing toward the close. Licorice and hints of black currant linger, along with a coating of round tannins, making for a lightly structured yet still highly enjoyable finale." Vinous

    • "Rapace" Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

      “Rapace” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Uccelliera is not only famous for its Brunello, which is outstanding every year, but also the Rapace Rosso IGT, which has meanwhile become an icon, shows the high quality with which the winery has been delighting wine connoisseurs all over the world for decades. Powerful dark ruby red, the aroma spectrum skilfully coordinated from a mix of dark red cherries, plums, liquorice, smoke, spices and menthol. The beautifully cherry-like primary fruit is embedded in a warm texture, the silky tannin skillfully takes over on the sidelines and the wine storms into a long, nuanced and delicately mineral finish. The olives from the farm Uccelliera grow near Castelnuovo dell'Abate, are carefully picked by hand and immediately cold pressed to preserve the aroma and fruity flavor. It is a rather mildly spicy olio with a very fruity expression, medium sharpness and pleasant softness on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

In the Bouquet beautiful primary fruits like cherry and blackberry, as well as cinnamon, spices and a smoky note. Very rich and complex on the palate, fleshy, with hints of dried spices and smoked ham. A persistent wine with beautiful depth and length, which already today gives a lot of pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of ripe dark cherry and spicy underbrush. Remarkably big and round, exuding notes of coffee, tobacco, ripe, sweet dark cherry and herbs; very enjoyable and very ripe, with greater definition and precision than many 2014 Brunellos from the southern reaches of the denomination." Antonio Galloni

"Dry-wood and floral aromas with a wealth of red cherries. On the palate there’s a smooth array of bright red berries, delivered on nutty, supple and even-paced tannins." James Suckling

"The Uccelliera 2014 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits the elegant and delicate side of this mighty Tuscan appellation. This vintage is characterized by mid-weight wines that are thinner in structure and less impactful in terms of overall intensity. However, there is a good argument to make that this softer approach is especially well-suited to a wine like Brunello that is never shy in terms of power. The vintage conditions in 2014 hold the wine back just a tad, and that restraint is welcome. From one of my absolute favorite Brunello producers, this wine is elegant and fine with bright fruit tones followed by sour cherry, licorice and dried rose bud." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

Cherries and spices in the vibrant bouquet, rounded off with hints of granite and menthol. On the palate, much dark fruit, great suppleness, silky tannins and remarkable balance. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is exotic yet chilled with a red fruit character overlaid with fresh flowers on the nose. Smoky. Medium to full body, firm yet lightly polished. Lovely fruit and subtly refined. Layered. Extremely fine and pretty." James Suckling

"I never have enough praise for the excellent work achieved at Uccelliera. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is another proud notch in Andrea Cortonesi's belt. This is a fine and elegant wine that wraps smoothly over the palate. It also has an immediate and accessible personality that means you don't need to wait too long to enjoy it. The wine is redolent of dark fruit, spice, balsam herb, licorice and pressed flowers. You get loads of variety character." Robert Parker

"A mix of sweet cherry and berry fruit and salty licorice and mineral elements mark this savory red, which is firm yet lively, with plenty of energy on the resonant aftertaste. Fine balance overall." Wine Spectator

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016

Andrea Cortonesi's Brunello di Montalcino 2016 is at its best right from the start. Here comes a Brunello of profound beauty, intensity and complexity. On the nose, a generous dose of primary fruit delights, primarily cherry and blackberry. This is joined by wonderfully balanced secondary aromas from the oak, reminiscent of spice, cinnamon and dark smoke. The palate explodes from the starting line ud deliver a steady pace throughout. Subtle notes of spice, cured meats and barbecue smoke add facets to the impressive finish. For us, it is one of the best representatives of the exceptional 2016 vintage! SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark ruby red. Subtle nose of dried rose petal, rich cherries, a hint of tobacco. Opens balanced, velvety and soft on the palate, spreads richly over the tongue, clear ripe core fruit, elegant finish." Falstaff

"Burly tannins put a grip on the black cherry, black currant, plum, earth and tobacco flavors in this dense version, yet it's also vibrant, building to a lingering finish. All the components are in the right place, so this should come together nicely over time." Wine Spectator

"The Uccelliera 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to dark fruit and wild cherry with warmer tones of cured tobacco, spice and potting soil. It shows the extra density, darkness and richness that comes so beautifully to fruit grown on the sun-drenched southern side of Castelnuovo dell'Abate in the southern half of the appellation. What Uccelliera delivers so carefully, vintage after vintage, is a truly exceptional sense of mouthfeel with textural richness and lingering creaminess. It is also one of the wines that consistently shows a sense of place. This is a touchstone estate for this specific Montalcino microclimate." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino blends richness, ripeness and refinement to create a model of total balance. At first, it’s dark, earthy and herbal; yet with time in the glass, a massive wave of black cherry, raspberry, sage and a grounding note of undergrowth comes forward. In the mouth, it coats all that it touches in silky, cool-toned textures, giving way to ripe red/black fruits complemented by spiced citrus, as nuances of lavender and tobacco form. While this feels round and pliant throughout, fine-grain tannins slowly saturate, sneaking up and reminding you of just how young the 2016 really is today. Hints of baker’s chocolate, licorice and a twang of tart blackberry resonate - wow, does it ever end?" Vinous

"This is really beautiful with complex black cherry, berry, walnut and dark chocolate. Some mushroom and smoke. It’s tight and reserved with polished tannins and wonderful balance and finesse. Persistent and intense." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012

Fantastic bouquet, clear and fruity with cherries, elderberries and blackberries. Also on the palate very fresh, compact, multi-layered, with firm tannin and firm pressure. A Riserva full of elegance and class. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep ruby with bright bricky tinges. Deep, ripe nose with earthy dried-cherry notes. A touch of tar and then mouth-filling fruit supported by lashes of grainy tannins. Impressive depth and length. While this is firmly in the dried-fruit spectrum, it still is complex, although I wonder what its life span will be." Jancis Robinson

"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a dark and brooding Sangiovese that flaunts its depth, sophistication and balanced weight. The fruit is thick and powerful, and the wine's textural richness is polished and beautiful. The wine goes through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and then ages in both small and large oak vessels for three years. Only 7,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker

"Some rather brash spicy oak aromas sit across ripe dark cherries and leafy nuances. The palate has a smooth and even-paced feel to it. Good depth of ripe dark cherry flavors. A really long and succulent finish. This has much to offer." James Suckling

"Offers a balance of cherry and berry fruit, savory wild herb and balsamic notes and leather and tobacco details, all matched to a firm, harmonious structure. Juicy, building to a long, energetic finish." Wine Spectator

Uccellieras Riserva 2015 is a dark, thoughtful and powerful wine. It only gradually shows its richness and complexity of spices, tobacco, cured meat and dried blackberries and plums. This wine monument is only at the beginning of a long maturation development and yet already convinces us on all levels. It offers stunning intensity, power, integrity and at the same time superb balance. Its aromatic momentum continues to grow, becoming more extensive and complete as the wine takes more air in the glass. Only too impatient do not give him more years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dense aromas of ripe berries, dried cherries, spicy bark and hints of orange rind follow through to a medium to full body with fine, firm tannins that are coated with fresh, spicy and citrusy notes that linger long. Well balanced acidity provides even greater length." James Suckling

"The Uccelliera 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a great achievement and is among my top favorite wines from Andrea Cortonesi tasted in the 20 or so years I have followed this estate. There is a lot of power here, thanks to that golden Castelnuovo dell'Abate sunshine, so I cannot liken this wine to some of the more ethereal and delicate expressions that I also love. Instead, this Riserva delivers brawn, dark fruit and muscle, but it does so with sincerity and honesty. You can't help but appreciate the complexity on offer. The wine offers plenty of dark fruit, but you also get licorice, balsam herb and crushed limestone. There is a lot of beauty to admire." Robert Parker

“Costabate” Sangiovese di Toscana IGT 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Costabate is a matter of the heart for Andrea Corteonesi and only comes in the best years and then in just 500 magnum bottles in the selected specialized trade and the top gastronomy. This exceptional wine is vinified in barrique barrels from over 300-year-old oaks.

This wine is made from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the vineyards of Uccelliera. These are located at three different altitudes and thus different microclimates. It is an expression of the unique terroir around Castelnuovo dell'Abate and corresponds, strictly speaking, to a Brunello declassified as IGT. Bright ruby. Then black fruits, some tar, teryaki notes and exotic spices. Fine-grained tannin and an almost inexhaustible complexity lead the wine connoisseur into new realms of experience. SUPERIORE.DE

    Uccelliera

After Andrea Cortonesi had been in 1986 in Castelnuovo dell'Abate had bought an almost ruined manor house called Uccelliera with land, he transformed the newly acquired property into a farm dedicated mainly to viticulture. Within just a few years, the agricultural entrepreneur, who comes from a farming family, had already achieved success thanks to his professional know-how: Cortonesis' first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled in 1993. The own wine found with lovers of good drops immediately large resonance. Although the likeable but ambitious and self-critical owner still runs a restaurant in Siena near Piazza del Campo, he always takes enough time to run his farm adjacent to apartments and to take care of four wines and the production of grappa and olive oil.

Andrea Cortonesi's vineyards are cultivated with great care and are densely planted. On average, they are 250 metres above sea level and all the vineyards are located in Castelnuovo dell'Take the exit in the direction of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The old alabaster quarries, whose ashlars give rise to the abbey of Sant'Antimo, bordering the vineyards. After smaller acquisitions and some new plantings, the vineyard area of the farmstead Uccelliera is now Uccelliera: "aviary") has grown to six and a half hectares.

Although not very high, the terrain offers very good conditions for vine cultivation. The medium sandy soils are rich in minerals. The orientation of the rows, the careful manual work in the vineyard and the thinning of the grapes produce perfectly ripened and flavoured berries. A disused Onyx mine not far away provides special wine notes.

In 2008, a major transformation was completed in Uccelliera. The old winery now has a completely underground annex that provides enough space for all the barrels belonging to the estate - and thus also for the containers previously kept in Andrea Cortonesi's apartment due to lack of space. "Stylistically, one chooses a beautiful middle way between tradition and modernity, even though recently the use of small French oak barrels and shortened fermentation times have come to the fore."Gambero Rosso 2012

"Andrea Cortonesi is one of my favorite Brunello producers. He is also one of the first estates I visited years ago as a young wine writer and it has been a privilege to watch his career take off in such spectacular fashion. I remember his small basement winery on that first visit and every time I go by his property today, I am surprised and encouraged by signs of recent construction and expansion. If anyone embodies the amazing growth of Brunello di Montalcino that person is Andrea."Robert Parker
