• Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2017

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2017

Intense, very dense bouquet of blackberries and black currants. Clear and juicy on the palate, harmonious with plenty of fresh fruit, underpinned by grippy tannin with beautiful acid reader. SUPERIORE.DE

"Precise and fresh, driven by sweet red fruits with a mineral edge. Pretty wine, with a long and savoury finish." Decanter

"The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino is a simple and straightforward wine that goes into wood for six months and into bottle for another four months before it hits the market. You get great value with a wine like this, which offers pristine primary fruit followed by grilled herb and moist potting soil. In all, you get all the best qualities of stripped down Sangiovese produced in a warm vintage. However, don't underestimate the wine's structure, because you do feel those integrated tannins at the back. The fruit is cheerful and bright." Robert Parker

Rapace - a great blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet - exudes a spicy scent of dark red berries. Hearty and rich taste, in which the soft tannins and a pleasant acid reader are finely balanced. SUPERIORE.DE

"This touches all the typical varietal notes of cherry, strawberry, leather, earth and bitter almond. Nicely balanced, in a slim frame, lingering on the finish, with mineral and fruit accents." Wine Spectator

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2009

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2009

"Those who love Uccelliera's style will again be richly rewarded this time: as one would expect from this vintage, Brunello '09 shines with dark, powerful fruit, which is consistently supported by a horizontal, ligated palate." Gambero Rosso 2015

"Full, dark ruby. Dense and multi-layered nose, smells full of blackberries, fresh plums, clear and inviting. It shows a lot of fine tannin on the palate in many layers, gives the wine length and energy, salty, a little rustic in the finale". Falstaff

"Offers an attractive mix of floral, cherry, cedar and licorice aromas and flavors, backed by a spine of tannins and acidity. Still compact on the finish, but finds equilibrium in the end. Should come around nicely. Best from 2016 through 2028." Wine Spectator

"Good deep red. Luscious aromas of blueberry syrup, red cherry jam, licorice and sweet pipe tobacco. Ripe, lush, deep and quite suave, but also with very good lift to the red cherry, licorice and balsamic spice flavors. Softly structured and superripe but conveys a sense of balance and manages to remain this side of over the top. Very rich and long on the aftertaste." Antonio Galloni

"The 2009 Brunello di Montalcino is a fleshy and meaty wine that carries its weight and concentration with grace. The wine oozes personality with a long succession of fruit, herbal and dark spice sensations that leave a lasting impression. Fruit is harvested from the Castelnuovo dell'Abate area and is aged in oak for 36 months." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

In the Bouquet beautiful primary fruits like cherry and blackberry, as well as cinnamon, spices and a smoky note. Very rich and complex on the palate, fleshy, with hints of dried spices and smoked ham. A persistent wine with beautiful depth and length, which already today gives a lot of pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"Deep ruby-red. Aromas and flavors of ripe dark cherry and spicy underbrush. Remarkably big and round, exuding notes of coffee, tobacco, ripe, sweet dark cherry and herbs; very enjoyable and very ripe, with greater definition and precision than many 2014 Brunellos from the southern reaches of the denomination." Antonio Galloni

"Dry-wood and floral aromas with a wealth of red cherries. On the palate there’s a smooth array of bright red berries, delivered on nutty, supple and even-paced tannins." James Suckling

"The Uccelliera 2014 Brunello di Montalcino exhibits the elegant and delicate side of this mighty Tuscan appellation. This vintage is characterized by mid-weight wines that are thinner in structure and less impactful in terms of overall intensity. However, there is a good argument to make that this softer approach is especially well-suited to a wine like Brunello that is never shy in terms of power. The vintage conditions in 2014 hold the wine back just a tad, and that restraint is welcome. From one of my absolute favorite Brunello producers, this wine is elegant and fine with bright fruit tones followed by sour cherry, licorice and dried rose bud." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2011

For us Uccelliera has been among the TOP10 of the Brunello scene for years. The 2011 edition of the Brunello also inspires us with its balance and noblesse and impressively confirms its leading position. SUPERIORE.DE

"Menthol, cherry, strawberry and licorice flavors highlight this juicy red. Nicely framed by dusty tannins that emerge on the finish, this is balanced and long overall." Wine Spectator

"Loads of fruit, with dried berry, tar, and meat. Full body with firm, silky tannins. Very flavorful. Decadent and rich. Powerful for the vintage. I like this as much as the 2010." James Suckling

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino shows an impressive level of richness and density that starts with a long succession of black fruit aromas, dried cherry, spice, leather and tobacco. There are evident hints of the warm vintage that become apparent thanks to the blackness of the fruit and the general softness of the aromas. The wine's texture is yielding and dense with extra layers of plump fruit and chewy richness." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2012

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2012

Uccelliera's elegant Brunello di Montalcino 2012 is among the best of the vintage. Cherries and spices in the vibrant bouquet, rounded off with hints of granite and menthol. On the palate, much dark fruit, great suppleness, silky tannins and remarkable balance. SUPERIORE.DE

"Smooth berry nose, also notes of violet and sandalwood; in the mouth pithy, the tannins robust, has character and length. Perfectly balanced." Vinum

"Aromas of walnuts and ripe fruit such as mature plums in combination with undertones of cedar. Full body, chewy tannins and spicy finish. Intense dried lemons. Burning spices. So much going on here. Such a complete and complex wine." James Suckling

"I am always such a big fan of Andrea Cortonesi's work. Like his previous releases, the 2012 Brunello di Montalcino shows an uncanny sense of continuity and consistency with past releases. This steady stylistic focus is one of the best reasons to buy Uccelliera Brunello. The wine is dark and rich in appearance. Fruit from this vintage was smaller than usual and Andrea jokes that during the 2012 growing season you could hardly call it "Sangiovese Grosso," the name of the Sangiovese clone used in Montalcino. It is normally characterized by larger berry size, but not in this warm and dry vintage. Fruit was concentrated and smaller instead. The wine's explosive flavor profile demonstrates this fact. Blackberry and dark fruit segues to spice, tobacco and balsam herb." Robert Parker

"Medium ruby with bright orange rim. Brooding and rich on the nose. Tangy, full cherry palate with firm tannins. Can be approached now, even if the tannins are a little fierce for the moment. Enormous length. For those who like a richer style of Brunello." Jancis Robinson

Cherries and spices in the vibrant bouquet, rounded off with hints of granite and menthol. On the palate, much dark fruit, great suppleness, silky tannins and remarkable balance. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is exotic yet chilled with a red fruit character overlaid with fresh flowers on the nose. Smoky. Medium to full body, firm yet lightly polished. Lovely fruit and subtly refined. Layered. Extremely fine and pretty." James Suckling

"I never have enough praise for the excellent work achieved at Uccelliera. The 2013 Brunello di Montalcino is another proud notch in Andrea Cortonesi's belt. This is a fine and elegant wine that wraps smoothly over the palate. It also has an immediate and accessible personality that means you don't need to wait too long to enjoy it. The wine is redolent of dark fruit, spice, balsam herb, licorice and pressed flowers. You get loads of variety character." Robert Parker

"A mix of sweet cherry and berry fruit and salty licorice and mineral elements mark this savory red, which is firm yet lively, with plenty of energy on the resonant aftertaste. Fine balance overall." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2008

Uccelliera's splendid 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is expressive and feminine with fine aromas of wild fruits, blackberry and chamomile. Gentle and melodic on the palate, it slowly builds up and then shows itself captivating, determined and long. SUPERIORE.DE

"What a decadent and complex nose this boasts of cherries but also fresh red meat, herbs and spices. This only gets more intense on the palate, where concentrated fruit is balanced by almost tangy acidity and chewy, wonderful tannins. The finish goes on for minutes. Superb now but better in 2017. A triumph for the vintage." James Suckling

"Andrea Cortonese makes ripe, structured Brunellos and this is an impressive effort from the variable 2008 vintage. It opens with aromas reminiscent of black plum, chocolate, vanilla and leather. These carry over to the palate along with toasted notes, spice and espresso. The fruit is supported by assertive tannins that need time to soften." Wine Enthusiast

"Flavors of sweet cherry and berry fruit, leather, tobacco and eucalyptus are matched to a fresh, vibrant structure, with plenty of tannins for support. This stays balanced, with a long, resonant aftertaste." Wine Spectator

Costabate is a matter close to Andrea Corteonesi's heart and comes only in the best years and then in just 500 magnum bottles to the selected specialist trade and the top gastronomy. This exceptional wine is vinified in barrique barrels of over 300 year old oaks.

This wine is made from a selection of the best Sangiovese grapes from the vineyards of Uccelliera. These are located at three different altitudes and thus different microclimates. It is an expression of the unique terroir around Castelnuovo dell'Abate and is exactly like a Brunello declassified as IGT. Bright ruby. Then black fruits, some tar, teryaki notes and exotic spices. Fine-grained tannin and an almost inexhaustible complexity lead the wine connoisseur into new areas of experience. SUPERIORE.DE

    Uccelliera

After Andrea Cortonesi had been in 1986 in Castelnuovo dell'Abate had bought an almost ruined manor house called Uccelliera with land, he transformed the newly acquired property into a farm dedicated mainly to viticulture. Within just a few years, the agricultural entrepreneur, who comes from a farming family, had already achieved success thanks to his professional know-how: Cortonesis' first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled in 1993. The own wine found with lovers of good drops immediately large resonance. Although the likeable but ambitious and self-critical owner still runs a restaurant in Siena near Piazza del Campo, he always takes enough time to run his farm adjacent to apartments and to take care of four wines and the production of grappa and olive oil.

Andrea Cortonesi's vineyards are cultivated with great care and are densely planted. On average, they are 250 metres above sea level and all the vineyards are located in Castelnuovo dell'Take the exit in the direction of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The old alabaster quarries, whose ashlars give rise to the abbey of Sant'Antimo, bordering the vineyards. After smaller acquisitions and some new plantings, the vineyard area of the farmstead Uccelliera is now Uccelliera: "aviary") has grown to six and a half hectares.

Although not very high, the terrain offers very good conditions for vine cultivation. The medium sandy soils are rich in minerals. The orientation of the rows, the careful manual work in the vineyard and the thinning of the grapes produce perfectly ripened and flavoured berries. A disused Onyx mine not far away provides special wine notes.

In 2008, a major transformation was completed in Uccelliera. The old winery now has a completely underground annex that provides enough space for all the barrels belonging to the estate - and thus also for the containers previously kept in Andrea Cortonesi's apartment due to lack of space. "Stylistically, one chooses a beautiful middle way between tradition and modernity, even though recently the use of small French oak barrels and shortened fermentation times have come to the fore."Gambero Rosso 2012

"Andrea Cortonesi is one of my favorite Brunello producers. He is also one of the first estates I visited years ago as a young wine writer and it has been a privilege to watch his career take off in such spectacular fashion. I remember his small basement winery on that first visit and every time I go by his property today, I am surprised and encouraged by signs of recent construction and expansion. If anyone embodies the amazing growth of Brunello di Montalcino that person is Andrea."Robert Parker
