Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2019
Stylish and authentic interpretation of the Sangiovese grape. Medium garnet red, bright aromas of sour cherry, red currant, blue flowers and a hint of bitter almond. Firm and lively on the palate, with present acidity and well-structured tannins. A wonderfully compact, authentic Tuscan and for us the ideal companion to strong pasta dishes. SUPERIORE.DE
"Wild roses, cassis and lavender open the bouquet of the 2019 Rosso di Montalcino. Uccelliera offers a terrific Rosso in this vintage with slightly more concentration and volume compared to previous editions. This wine has a pretty floral component that underlines the delicate, elegant and streamlined personality of this classic Rosso." Robert Parker
"The 2019 Rosso di Montalcino is drop-dead gorgeous, slowly unfolding in the glass; at first smokey and herbal, yet gaining depths of dark red fruits and sweet spice over time. It’s silky-smooth in texture, contrasted by savory wild berry, plum and zesty acids, with purple tinged inner florals amassing toward the close. Licorice and hints of black currant linger, along with a coating of round tannins, making for a lightly structured yet still highly enjoyable finale." Vinous

"Masses of crushed raspberry, peppery florals and smoky mineral-earth tones create a bouquet that is impossible to ignore as the 2020 Rosso di Montalcino opens in the glass. This is a pure and vibrant yet silky effort that contrasts ripe berries with hints of sour citrus and savory spice. While packed full of zesty energy, it finishes classically dry and persistent, leaving notes of roses and cloves to linger. Give the 2020 another year of cellaring for the full effect and enjoy over the medium term." Vinous

“Rapace” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
Uccelliera is not only famous for its outstanding Brunello every year, but also for the Rapace Rosso IGT, which has meanwhile become an icon, demonstrating the high quality with which the winery has been delighting wine connoisseurs all over the world for decades. A strong dark ruby red, the aroma spectrum is skilfully balanced by a mix of dark red cherries, plums, liquorice, smoke, spices and menthol. The beautifully cherry-like primary fruit is embedded in a warm texture, the silky tannin skillfully takes over on the sidelines and the wine storms into a long, nuanced and delicately mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"A firm and fresh red with medium body, bright acidity and fine, linear tannins that are integrated and focused. Plenty of cherry and berry character." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017
Uccelliera's 2017 Brunello shows impressive richness and density, starting with a long sequence of black fruit, dried cherry, spice, leather and tobacco aromas. On the palate, an opulent, soft texture with additional layers of plump fruit a beautiful spectrum of flavours. SUPERIORE.DE
"A solid 2017, but there’s tangy freshness to this, and relatively fine tannins that frame the wine nicely. Plenty of ripe fruit. Some fresh mushroom, too. Drink after 2023." James Suckling
"The Uccelliera 2017 Brunello di Montalcino does a great job showcasing that extra power and brawn of the vintage and the richer textural structure of the southern side of the appellation. The bouquet is up front and beautifully measured with lots of red and purple fruit definition followed by spice, tar and earthiness. What sets this wine apart in this hot and dry vintage is the mouthfeel. It delivers fiber, flesh and soft tannins." Robert Parker
"Balsam herbs, cocoa and sweet white smoke give way to crushed black cherry and plum as the 2017 Brunello di Montalcino blossoms in the glass. This is elegance personified, silky, deep and round, yet delivering a core of saline-minerality that creates a savory sensation – umami, in a way – with masses of ripe red fruits and confectionary spices to contrast. The tannins are sweet and round, presenting a chiseled structure; yet it’s not forceful. This tapers off with a tart twang of sour wild berries under an air of lavender and violets. Wow; there is so much concentration and depth here, but also balance. In fact, there’s hardly a sign of this being from a difficult vintage. While I expect it will have a shorter life than an Uccelliera Brunello from a classic year, the 2017 should not be missed." Vinous

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2016
Andrea Cortonesi's Brunello di Montalcino 2016 is at its best right from the start. Here comes a Brunello of profound beauty, intensity and complexity. On the nose, a generous dose of primary fruits, mainly cherry and blackberry, delights. This is joined by wonderfully balanced secondary aromas from the oak, reminiscent of spices, cinnamon and dark smoke. On the palate, it explodes from the start line and delivers a steady pace throughout. Subtle notes of spice and barbecue smoke add further facets to the impressive finish. For us, it is one of the best representatives of the exceptional 2016 vintage! SUPERIORE.DE
"Complex bouquet with dark fruits, raspberry, earthy, balsamic and herbal notes. A Brunello of velvet and silk, with lovely floral notes like lavender and violets, the fine-grained tannins are cuddly. Excellent liaison of richness and finesse. Strong wine!" Weinwisser
"Dark ruby red. Discreet nose of dried rose petal, rich cherries, a hint of tobacco. Opens balanced, velvety and soft on the palate, spreads richly over the tongue, clear ripe core fruit, elegant finish." Falstaff
"Burly tannins put a grip on the black cherry, black currant, plum, earth and tobacco flavors in this dense version, yet it's also vibrant, building to a lingering finish. All the components are in the right place, so this should come together nicely over time." Wine Spectator
"The Uccelliera 2016 Brunello di Montalcino opens to dark fruit and wild cherry with warmer tones of cured tobacco, spice and potting soil. It shows the extra density, darkness and richness that comes so beautifully to fruit grown on the sun-drenched southern side of Castelnuovo dell'Abate in the southern half of the appellation. What Uccelliera delivers so carefully, vintage after vintage, is a truly exceptional sense of mouthfeel with textural richness and lingering creaminess. It is also one of the wines that consistently shows a sense of place. This is a touchstone estate for this specific Montalcino microclimate." Robert Parker
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino blends richness, ripeness and refinement to create a model of total balance. At first, it’s dark, earthy and herbal; yet with time in the glass, a massive wave of black cherry, raspberry, sage and a grounding note of undergrowth comes forward. In the mouth, it coats all that it touches in silky, cool-toned textures, giving way to ripe red/black fruits complemented by spiced citrus, as nuances of lavender and tobacco form. While this feels round and pliant throughout, fine-grain tannins slowly saturate, sneaking up and reminding you of just how young the 2016 really is today. Hints of baker’s chocolate, licorice and a twang of tart blackberry resonate - wow, does it ever end?" Vinous
"This is really beautiful with complex black cherry, berry, walnut and dark chocolate. Some mushroom and smoke. It’s tight and reserved with polished tannins and wonderful balance and finesse. Persistent and intense." James Suckling

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2015
Uccellieras Riserva 2015 is a dark, thoughtful and powerful wine. It only gradually reveals its richness and complexity of spices, tobacco, cured meat and dried blackberries and plums. This wine monument is only at the beginning of a long maturation development and yet already convinces us on all levels. It offers breathtaking intensity, power, integrity and at the same time excellent balance. Its aromatic momentum continues to grow and becomes more extensive and complete the more air the wine takes in the glass. Only the too impatient will not give it more years in the cellar. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dense aromas of ripe berries, dried cherries, spicy bark and hints of orange rind follow through to a medium to full body with fine, firm tannins that are coated with fresh, spicy and citrusy notes that linger long. Well balanced acidity provides even greater length." James Suckling
"The Uccelliera 2015 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a great achievement and is among my top favorite wines from Andrea Cortonesi tasted in the 20 or so years I have followed this estate. There is a lot of power here, thanks to that golden Castelnuovo dell'Abate sunshine, so I cannot liken this wine to some of the more ethereal and delicate expressions that I also love. Instead, this Riserva delivers brawn, dark fruit and muscle, but it does so with sincerity and honesty. You can't help but appreciate the complexity on offer. The wine offers plenty of dark fruit, but you also get licorice, balsam herb and crushed limestone. There is a lot of beauty to admire." Robert Parker
"An enticing version, whose vibrant character sets the pace for fresh black cherry, blackberry, iron and tobacco, with a frame of oak spice. Round and solidly built, this persists with lingering accents of fruit, mineral and spice." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2016
This coveted Riserva is only vinified in top vintages and comes from the highest vineyards of the winery. On the nose, the essence of dark cherries, blackberries, flowers, violets, liquorice and spices, which are then carried away on the palate by firm, structured tannins. The Brunello Riserva 2016 impresses with its remarkable fruit and a big, explosive finish. It presents itself fresh and surprisingly lively, yet very focused and balanced. A great wine that is already a real joy to drink. SUPERIORE.DE
"Andrea Cortonesi crafts distinctly umami Brunello from various parcels at diverse altitudes and exposures in the warm reaches of Castelnuovo dell’Abate. After trying the sensuous 2015 Riserva at the estate in September 2021, I was excited to taste the 2016 release. It too is voluptuously shaped yet shored up by sturdy, muscular tannins. Pronounced clove and nutmeg meet prune, dried raspberry and tar. And there is a saline beef broth undertow. While it offers plenty to unpack over the years, I actually prefer to drink Uccelliera’s wines when they are still full of vim and vigour." Decanter
"This is really polished and refined, yet remains polished and beautiful, with cherries and berries, as well as light hazelnut and walnut undertones. Compact and silky. Drink after 2024, but already so attractive." James Suckling
"The 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a terrific wine: bold, well-defined, powerful and balanced. There are many good things to relate, but the high alcohol content (measured at 15.5%) is the only distraction. This is a trend in the Riserva category in the 2016 vintage. The bouquet shows black cherry, cassis, earth, leather and dried roses. The palate offers soft fruit flavors supported by firm oak tannins." Robert Parker
"Rich and deeply alluring, the 2016 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva wafts up to display crushed ashen stone mixed with hints of ginger, dusty florals and black cherry preserves. This is velvety-smooth and pliant in feel, lifted by cooling herbal and mineral tones, as an opulent wave of ripe red and black fruits washes across the palate, leaving a staining of minerals and spice in its wake. It’s long and structured, in need of further time to come fully into focus, yet somehow the 2016 Riserva remains completely fresh, tapering off to inner earth tones and hints of blueberry. Time will reveal further depths. This is an utterly classic Uccelliera Brunello in the making." Vinous
"Offers forthcoming aromas and flavors of blackberry, black currant, licorice, tobacco and vanilla backed by vivid acidity and dusty tannins, with a long, saline finish. Showing enough fruit and structure to absorb the oakiness over time, this is balanced overall and poised for a promising future." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012
Fantastic bouquet, clear and fruity with cherries, elderberries and blackberries. Also on the palate very fresh, compact, multi-layered, with firm tannin and firm pressure. A Riserva full of elegance and class. SUPERIORE.DE
"Deep ruby with bright bricky tinges. Deep, ripe nose with earthy dried-cherry notes. A touch of tar and then mouth-filling fruit supported by lashes of grainy tannins. Impressive depth and length. While this is firmly in the dried-fruit spectrum, it still is complex, although I wonder what its life span will be." Jancis Robinson
"The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is a dark and brooding Sangiovese that flaunts its depth, sophistication and balanced weight. The fruit is thick and powerful, and the wine's textural richness is polished and beautiful. The wine goes through alcoholic and malolactic fermentation in stainless steel and then ages in both small and large oak vessels for three years. Only 7,000 bottles were made." Robert Parker
"Some rather brash spicy oak aromas sit across ripe dark cherries and leafy nuances. The palate has a smooth and even-paced feel to it. Good depth of ripe dark cherry flavors. A really long and succulent finish. This has much to offer." James Suckling
"Offers a balance of cherry and berry fruit, savory wild herb and balsamic notes and leather and tobacco details, all matched to a firm, harmonious structure. Juicy, building to a long, energetic finish." Wine Spectator

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012 · 6 Bottles in OWC

After Andrea Cortonesi had been in 1986 in Castelnuovo dell'Abate had bought an almost ruined manor house called Uccelliera with land, he transformed the newly acquired property into a farm dedicated mainly to viticulture. Within just a few years, the agricultural entrepreneur, who comes from a farming family, had already achieved success thanks to his professional know-how: Cortonesis' first Brunello di Montalcino was bottled in 1993. The own wine found with lovers of good drops immediately large resonance. Although the likeable but ambitious and self-critical owner still runs a restaurant in Siena near Piazza del Campo, he always takes enough time to run his farm adjacent to apartments and to take care of four wines and the production of grappa and olive oil.
Andrea Cortonesi's vineyards are cultivated with great care and are densely planted. On average, they are 250 metres above sea level and all the vineyards are located in Castelnuovo dell'Take the exit in the direction of Sant'Angelo in Colle. The old alabaster quarries, whose ashlars give rise to the abbey of Sant'Antimo, bordering the vineyards. After smaller acquisitions and some new plantings, the vineyard area of the farmstead Uccelliera is now Uccelliera: "aviary") has grown to six and a half hectares.
Although not very high, the terrain offers very good conditions for vine cultivation. The medium sandy soils are rich in minerals. The orientation of the rows, the careful manual work in the vineyard and the thinning of the grapes produce perfectly ripened and flavoured berries. A disused Onyx mine not far away provides special wine notes.
In 2008, a major transformation was completed in Uccelliera. The old winery now has a completely underground annex that provides enough space for all the barrels belonging to the estate - and thus also for the containers previously kept in Andrea Cortonesi's apartment due to lack of space. "Stylistically, one chooses a beautiful middle way between tradition and modernity, even though recently the use of small French oak barrels and shortened fermentation times have come to the fore."Gambero Rosso 2012
"Andrea Cortonesi is one of my favorite Brunello producers. He is also one of the first estates I visited years ago as a young wine writer and it has been a privilege to watch his career take off in such spectacular fashion. I remember his small basement winery on that first visit and every time I go by his property today, I am surprised and encouraged by signs of recent construction and expansion. If anyone embodies the amazing growth of Brunello di Montalcino that person is Andrea."Robert Parker
