    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2014

Fantastically structured Brunello, who benefited from the fact that the vinification of the selection Brunello "Tenuta Nuova" was abandoned in the low yield year 2014. Firm and nicely fresh with intense aromas, velvety fruit, ripe tannin, beautiful acid reader and endless long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby with a slightly bright edge. Opened with slightly herbaceous notes, clears, then hints of hazelnuts, violets and cherries. On the palate good density, shows firm tannin, nicely wrapped in sweet fruit, in the finale good pressure." Falstaff

"Deep ruby. Lifted, sweet marasca cherry with a cool edge. Sweet fruit with amazing concentration and length for this vintage. Perhaps the tannins are a little hard, but there is plenty of fruit on the finish to counteract them. Great effort for the vintage. Jancis Robinson

"This red is dense with cherry, strawberry and floral notes, building to a juicy finish. The structure is there too, but this is more about the fruit." Wine Spectator

"For the first time in Casanova di Neri's history, the white-label Brunello incorporates grapes usually destined for their Tenuta Nuova and Cerretalto bottlings. The grapes were given a brief maceration so as not to extract any bitter tannins, yielding an immediately approachable midweight red. Dusty cherry, cranberry and redcurrant notes grace the nose and palate, with red rose and white pepper lending complexity. The tannins are fine and provide a subtle grip, while taut, tart acidity demands a rich, meaty pasta sauce. This will sit well at the dinner table." Decanter

"Wild red fruit and orange zest with cedar and wild herbs. The cherries here are fresh and lively and the tannins cut a sturdy, even frame around impressively long, fresh flavors. The only Brunello made here in 2014; there are no single vineyard bottlings." James Suckling

"This is the white label Brunello from Giacomo Neri and his son Giovanni. The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino is faithful to the vintage with a compact and streamlined style that suggests a near or medium-term drinking window. In general, I am hesitant to recommend this vintage for any significant cellar aging, and one reason is because these wines perform nicely straight out of the gate. The same goes for this relatively easy expression that is redolent of wild berry, rose hip, blue flower and moist potting soil. Because the Brunelli Tenuta Nuova and Cerretalto were not made in this vintage, this wine represents a blend of fruit from across the estate. This is the first time this has happened at Casanova di Neri." Robert Parker

"Bright deep red. Perfumed nose of red cherry, Oriental spices, flint and graphite. Rich, dense and suave on entry, then lighter and more linear in the middle, but with a plush juicy mouthfeel that makes it hard to put the glass back down once you’ve started tasting it. Very pure black/red cherry and spice flavors linger impressively on the long, refreshing finish. A knockout 2014 Brunello that lacks the size of the bigger vintages (very appropriately, I may add, given what the 2014 growing season was like) but showcases enchanting purity and grace. Vey well done." Ian d'Agata

    • "Pietradonice" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

      “Pietradonice” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Pietradonice from the dream vintage 2016 is Cabernet Sauvignon on the highest level and meanwhile a legend. Monumental and very concentrated, with hints of sour cherries and a fine note of cedar wood and liquorice. Clearly recognizable as a Montalcino plant, yet with its herb-spicy nature just as typical of Neri and grape varieties. SUPERIORE.DE

"Shiny, dark ruby. Opened with a pronounced earthy note of slate and truffle, followed by plenty of currants and ripe plums. Juicy at the base and in the course, very well worked out fruit, fine-meshed tannin." Falstaff

"I am happily impressed by the 2016 Pietradonice. This wine is so easy and pleasant to drink, I'd say it's almost dangerous: The bottle finishes much faster than you'd like. When in Montalcino, there are few alternatives to the local Sangiovese grape, and wines of this quality made with Cabernet Sauvignon can be counted on one hand. Evidently, the potential for others is there. This vintage shows a rich and darkly saturated color followed by ripe aromas of blackberry, plum, spice and sweet tobacco. I am especially impressed by the optimal ripeness of the tannins that gives this wine a smooth and supple approach. This wine could age, but it also performs beautifully straight out the gate. I am a fan." Robert Parker

Tenuta Nuova with a clear scent of red berries, nuts and spices fills the palate with infinitely juicy, complex fruit and super-fine tannins. Irresistibly attractive! SUPERIORE.DE

"This is another fabulous wine from Giacomo Neri. The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a deeply layered expression with bold tones of dark fruit that are softened and enhanced by spice, leather, tobacco and balsam herb. The wine is very beautiful and polished with slightly less depth and complexity compared the outstanding vintage that precedes it. Despite the vintage variation, this is a wine of enormous pedigree and importance. It is generous and confident with a presentation that offers purity, intensity and persistence." Robert Parker

"The 2011 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is dark, sensual and inviting, with lovely textural depth and fine balance. Macerated dark cherry, plum, smoke, lavender and spice flesh out in a succulent, expressive Brunello that should drink well with minimal cellaring." Antonio Galloni

"Lots of spice, balsamic and ripe-fruit character to this one. Walnut undertones. Full to medium body, a compressed structure of ripe tannins and packed-in fruit. Vibrant finish." James Suckling

"Precise balance sets the stage for cherry, black currant, violet and tobacco flavors in this smooth, intense red. The tannins are present yet well-integrated and this persists with echoes of fruit and tobacco. Reveals an element of spice on the aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"The Casanova di Neri 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova is a beautiful wine that recalls many of the stunning characteristics found in its high-scoring predecessor. The bouquet offers black cherry, spice, leather, balsam herb, cola and licorice. The complexity is absolutely impressive. The 2012 vintage shows aromatic intensity and persistence on the finish. "Concentrated, dark color. Very sweet bouquet, intense and massive, broad scent with maximum fullness, voluminous, woody sweetness, rich and impressive. Wide open on the tongue, very juicy and sweet, with a tightly organised structure and spicy tannins. A massive, super-concentrated Brunello, worked entirely on intensity and impressive sweetness. Eternally long and saturated on the palate, takes a lot of time." Weinwisser

"This is a towering achievement. It is delightful on every level. The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is an expressive, exuberant and stunning wine that opens to a dark ruby color and rich consistency. The bouquet is never-ending with immediate intensity that is followed closely by finely-tuned aromas of black cherry, spice, grilled herb, clove, tobacco, wet earth and white truffle. A gorgeous display of elegant mineral tones rises from the bouquet with time. Later, those aromas turn to cola, licorice and tar. This wine showed an impressive evolution over the 24 hours I tasted it and delivered solid improvements each time. The mouthfeel is silky and smooth, and there's enough power here to move the wine over the palate in seamless fashion. This is a bottle for the back of your cellar." Robert Parker

    • Brunello di Montalcino "Cerretalto" DOCG 2013

Brunello di Montalcino “Cerretalto” DOCG 2013

Deep dark velvety ruby red. Opulent bouquet of sour cherry, mulberry, slightly moist leaves and laurel. In addition the typical Neri spice after wood, tobacco and broom. On the palate, an open-hearted fruit paired with the precision of a monumental Brunello skeleton, which, in addition to fine sweetness, maintains a balance with the taut acid nerve and leads to an almost infinite finish. A class wine, as it rarely comes into our glass. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, intense ruby with a slight garnet hue. Complex and appealing nose, intense dark, ripe cherry, some plum, then also notes of slate and liquorice. Powerful and powerful on the palate, reveals itself with much dense tannin, interwoven, much present fruit, in the finale saturated pressure." Falstaff

"Deep luminous ruby-red. Spicy red cherry and mineral nuances on the nose and in the mouth. Enters fresh and juicy with noteworthy flesh and size to the red and blue fruit flavors, then suave and refined all the way onto the long refined finish. Closes with youthfully chewy tannins and a tactile mouthfeel offering hints of flinty minerals and raspberry. A brooding giant that is extremely elegant and refined. Very well done." Antonio Galloni

"There’s a lot in this wine, in terms of complexity, that is all underpinned by concentrated, ripe and assertive red cherries. The oak is nicely placed and there’s a sense of purpose and build on the palate that really sets it apart. High-class tannins." James Suckling

"Youthful-looking mid ruby. Dark fruit with impressive depth and with a hint of gingerbread. Lovely, tangy dark-cherry fruit and loads of powdery tannins that are a little demanding right now. Needs much more age." Jancis Robinson

"This intense version is concentrated, with black cherry, blackberry, graphite, tobacco and spice flavors, yet remains light-footed due to the racy profile. Structured, yet beautifully balanced and youthful. Shows purity and length on the aftertaste, which introduces a floral component." Wine Spectator

"There are a handful of wines in Italy that make me nervous before I taste them because my expectations are so high. This is one of those wines. Indeed, previous editions of Cerretalto have earned the coveted 100 point score, and I am astutely aware of the pedigree and potential that comes forth with each new vintage. As enthusiastic as my assessment of the 2013 Brunello di Montalcino Cerretalto is, I'm stopping short of that perfect score. This vintage is something of a moving target with wines that are beautiful, without a doubt, yet the growing conditions were not even across the appellation, and achieving optimal tannic management posed a challenge to many producers. If I were to make any criticism of this wine, it would fall along those lines. That aside, this is a beautiful Brunello that boasts deep intensity and bold black fruit flavors that are plummy and rich. Spice, toasted oak and tobacco frame that primary fruit. Cerretalto ages in oak for 30 months and that strong imprint has added to the structure, depth and contemporary character of this A-list Brunello. That oak imprint is also reinforced in the wine's tannins. There's no doubt that this wine needs more cellar aging. I would absolutely not suggest drinking it within the next five years. Any awkwardness it shows now should iron itself out with more bottle time." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Casanova di Neri
    Tuscany | Montalcino
    Casanova di Neri

Before Giovanni Neri founded the Casanova di Neri winery in 1971 with the intention of producing a world-class Brunello di Montalcino, the estate in the municipality of Montalcino was still a mixed farm. Over the years, Giovanni acquired land in areas of the zone where there are excellent conditions for the cultivation of large plants. Today the 500 hectare vineyard comprises 63 hectares of vineyards and 20 hectares of olive groves. On a clear day, visitors to the winery can even see the tower of Piazza del Campo in Siena at the delivery point for the grapes.

Since the first harvest in 1978, the company has been producing year after year fabulous wines that are among the best wines in Tuscany. The Casanova di Neri Winery has long enjoyed an excellent reputation worldwide and is highly praised by wine critics. The vineyards are located in the Sesta Bassa area on the southern slope, near Castelnuovo dell'Abate and Cerretalto, in the eastern part of Montalcino, which is particularly favoured by the microclimate.

In the representative cellar of the estate on the road from Torrenieri to Montalcino, which is underground and functionally equipped, barrels of different sizes and types of wood are used for the ageing of the wines in two large rooms on two levels. The fermentation takes place in open conical stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature and without the use of pumps. This ensures that the quality of the grapes is taken into account as much as possible. Only the best tannins are extracted and the colour and fragrance of the plants are preserved.

Giovanni Neri, who had already appointed his son Giacomo as plant manager in 1991, has always strived for perfection as a representative of a modern style at Brunello. The family is supported in their work by none other than Carlo Ferrini. Casanova di Neri regularly produces wines with a high recognition value and exemplary style. The "Brunello 2001 Tenuta Nuova" was found, believe it or not, on the first rank in the classification of the "Top 100" of the US trade magazine WineSpectator. SUPERIORE.DE

"Giacomo Neri produces normal Brunello and two single vineyard wines: The excellent Cerretalto and the sensational Tenuta Nuova. He adjusts the barrel ripeness to the quality and condition of the vintage." Little Johnson
