    In 1971, Giovanni Neri bought Podere Casanova, east of Montalcino – a grain merchant from Montevarchi, fascinated by the austerity of the Sangiovese grape, these hills and their unpredictability. What he could not have known was that his son Giacomo, his grandson Gianlorenzo and his family would go on to establish one of the most distinctive estates in the entire appellation from these slopes. The Rosso di Montalcino is their first expression. 100% Sangiovese, a massale selection from their own vines – not a clone, but a genetic fingerprint of the estate. Spontaneous fermentation, 18 days' maceration, 12 months' ageing in wood. 2024 was a fresh, structured vintage in Montalcino, with good acidity and clear fruit – the Rosso carries it off with ease.

    A vibrant ruby red. On the nose, red berries, cherry, rose petal and a hint of spice – young, direct and expressive. On the palate, it is both juicy and firm, with well-integrated tannins and a long, mineral finish. Montalcino in the first set – and the very first serve is spot on. SUPERIORE.DE
