Complex of fresh red berries without being arbitrary. Excellent balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannin. Always one of Italy's great rosés - a characterful accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and also an unforgettable treat solo! SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright medium red-pink. Very precise, juicy aromas and flavors of red cherry and herbs showcase very good size and depth, plus an enticing tactile chewy mouthfeel. A blend of mostly Sangiovese with a little Merlot. Co-owner and winemaker Marco Pallanti is one of those gifted winemakers who would have trouble making a bad wine even if he sets out to do so on purpose." Vinous

Complex after fresh red berries, without being arbitrary. Excellent balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannin. Always one of the great rosés of Italy - a characterful companion of Mediterranean dishes and also solo an unforgettable pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark rosé hue with vermilion highlights. Hearty cherry and a tiny bit of iced candy on the nose, a powerful body on the palate with tight acidity, stout mid-palate, a rose full of character that is almost too rich as an aperitif but will be at its best with food. Grilled poultry. Or chorizo. Great length." Falstaff

"Ama's 2019 Purple Rose shows just how compelling Sangiovese can be as a Rosè. Bright, crisp and floral, the 2019 has more than enough depth and complexity to be compelling on its own or at the dinner table. Bright acids perk up a core of sweet red berry fruit effortlessly." Vinous

    • "Al Poggio" Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2019

“Al Poggio” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2019

Chardonnay Al Poggio benefits from high altitude vineyards (from around 500 metres above sea level) and the cool limestone soils of the Chianti Classico area to produce this fresh, crisp and wonderfully approachable white wine. The distinctive area-specific elements are reminiscent of apricot and peach, with light sprinklings of Italian herbs such as fresh oregano and rosemary sprigs. Fine mineral notes and fresh hints of citrus make this immensely tasty and thoroughly complex Chardonnay an ideal accompaniment to Mediterranean summer dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Chardonnay Al Poggio is bright and nicely lifted, with lovely varietal character and plenty of nuance. Given its light to mid-weight structure, I would prefer to drink the 2019 as an aperitif or with lighter dishes. Citrus peel, almond and dried flowers add layers of dimension with a bit of air." “Il Chiuso” Pinot Nero Toscana IGT 2018

On the nose sweet red cherries, roses and violets, mint and dried herbs. Fruity, well balanced and with silky tannins and a beautiful texture. A warm Pinot Nero from central Tuscany with elegance, grace and full of harmony. SUPERIORE.DE

"A bright, fruity pinot noir with strawberry and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium body, round and creamy tannins and a fruity finish. Some citrus at the end." James Suckling

"The 2018 Pinot Nero Il Chiuso opens with pretty aromatics laced with scents of crushed berries, mint, spice and anise. On the palate, the Chiuso is a bit clenched. It will be interesting to see if a more richness develops in bottle." Vinous

"The Castello di Ama 2018 Pinot Nero di Toscana Il Chiuso is a dark and sultry expression of the Burgundian grape, showing plenty of sunshine and Tuscan flair. The bouquet offers blue and purple fruits with pretty roses and violets carefully woven into the fruit. The wine is rigorously medium-bodied, but this Italian interpretation ultimately delivers more weight, power and flavor concentration. This added textural support gives this wine the ability to pair with the robust pasta dishes of Tuscany, perhaps with a shaved black truffle or two on top. The warm climate of Tuscany and the cool 2018 vintage work in lockstep to create this harmonious and balanced wine. About 7,500 bottles were made." Robert Parker

    • "Montebuoni" Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018

“Montebuoni” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2018

Normally, the Sangiovese grapes of the 14 hectares large single vineyard are mainly harvested in the Ama and San Lorenzo. With the 2018 harvest, Lorenza and Marco decided to vinify a small amount separately - and thus, the 2018 vintage produced for the first time the Riserva, which is now released for sale in very small quantities (600 bottles for the German market).

Deep dark ruby red with violet reflections. Extroverted bouquet of brunberry, raspberry and redcurrant, plus notes of crushed gravel, tobacco and traces of young leather. Very powerful and beautifully textured on the palate, the various layers of primary fruit only gradually fanning out, the wood pleasantly receding into the background. Finely granulated tannin and well-integrated acidity flank this very harmonious red into an elegant, long final. There is a lot to like here, for us it is once again a typical Ama wine: racy, powerful and elegant! SUPERIORE.DE

      “Haiku” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

Complex bouquet of ripe fruit, sage and tobacco aromas. Dense and firm on the palate with piquant tannin, very well structured and of excellent quality and purity, long and powerful finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Haiku is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice all flesh out in a racy, forward Tuscan red that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Time in bottle should bring out more aromatic nuance and overall complexity." Vinous

"Blackberry and walnut aromas with hints of dried chocolate powder. Blackcurrants, too. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, creamy tannins and a long, pretty finish. So delicious and beautiful now. Sangiovese with some merlot and cabernet franc. Drink and enjoy." James Suckling

"The Castello di Ama 2017 Haiku (a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in supporting roles) shows a rich and powerful center of gravity, all framed by lovely freshness and lots of rich fruit fiber. It sticks firmly to the palate with big fruit intensity, plum, blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. Haiku is a very unique wine within the context of Tuscany, and I'm not just referring to the unusual blend of grapes used here. This vintage offers darkness and a level of power that we don't usually associate with Tuscany. Yet, good context is given because the Sangiovese grape adds an authentic Tuscan touch and gives the wine a sense of place." Robert Parker

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · 0,75l in Gift Box

The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff

"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Robert Parker

"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni

"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

Round and extremely supple at the base and in the course, it blooms beautifully, opens with fine, elegant tannins, rich draught, lots of dark berry fruit, very long aftertaste". Falstaff

"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Robert Parker

"A wine of pure femininity and grace, the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is wonderfully fleshy and radiant in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. Sweet, silky tannins wrap around a super-expressive finish laced with knock-out aromatics. The 2011 is firing on all cylinders today." Antonio Galloni

"Rich and modern, pure and expressive, with violet, black currant, cherry and spice flavors that ride the racy profile and dense tannic structure to a long, lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice." Wine Spectator

"Amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. Dried flowers and violets too, plus tanned leather. Full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Stunning texture. One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made." James Suckling

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines outstanding structure with the highest elegance in its typical exemplary manner. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant, intense ruby with a slight violet hue. Very concentrated, compact nose, at the beginning lightly hints of capers and dark olive paste, then lots of plum and blackberry, deep. It shows on the palate very great play, clear and polished, opens with a lot of juicy fruit, dense tannin with a soft core, very long aftertaste, a great wine!" Falstaff

"The precision and beauty to this wine is very impressive with blueberry, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. It's tight and focused. Gorgeous." James Suckling

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is soft, open-knit and succulent. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal mint and sweet spices. The Casuccia is the most sensual and racy of the Ama wines today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the purity of the fruit is striking. The creamy, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation." Antonio Galloni

"Castello di Ama excels in cooler vintages with long growing seasons for slow-ripening Sangiovese. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows excellent results. This wine is released in limited bottle numbers and exhibits profound elegance and beauty. It is softly layered and delicate with wild berry, dried cherry and light baking spice. Vigneto la Casuccia boasts a fine level of intricate embroidery and texture." Robert Parker

"A deep, complex red, this features black currant, blackberry, spice, mineral and tobacco aromas and flavors. Monolithic now, yet with a sense of elegance. The finish is long and saturated, yet this will require some time to show its best." Wine Spectator

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013 · 0,75l in Gift Box

The Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"A fine red with blueberry, lemon and mineral character. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh and very clean finish. Linear and focused. Structured." James Suckling

"Black cherry, plum, graphite, smoke, dried Mediterranean and crushed rocks are front and center in the 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista. Searing tannins give the 2013 much of its energy and vibrancy. A dark, brooding yet austere, mid-weight wine in the best of the Bellavista tradition, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own." Antonio Galloni

"The superb 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows impeccable balance and offers a classic portrait of Sangiovese (with a small part Malvasia Nera). Castello di Ama has a beautifully unique way of interpreting the potential of the Chianti Classico appellation and this wine is a prime example. The bouquet follows classic lines with wild berry and spice, but Vigneto Bellavista also boasts a wild side with some cured meat and animal-like aromas that suit it very well. The mouthfeel is polished and streamlined, but those dark fruit flavors should flesh out with more bottle aging." Robert Parker

"Complex and inviting aromas of sweet cherry, leather and spice lead to a core of cherry and strawberry fruit, singed by tobacco and earthy, woodsy accents." Wine Spectator

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015 · 0,75l in Gift Box

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista plays very true to type, with expressive aromatic top notes from the Malvasia Nera that gives the wine its distinctive savory/floral profile. Sage lavender, black pepper, menthol and juniper berry all grow in the glass. Towering and statuesque in its presence, the 2015 is going to need a number of years to be at its best." Antonio Galloni

"This wine is one of the true protagonists of the 2015 vintage. The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista offers an unreal level of intensity and depth with profound darkness and perfectly integrated tannins versus acidity. This wine was not produced in 2014. This vintage only saw 4,200 bottles made. The wine pours forth with rich fruit that is tightly woven within the wine's generous texture. Spice, smoke and tobacco appear as brief afterthoughts. Despite the beauty of the bouquet, this wine is ultimately all about the finesse and the elegance of its mouthfeel and that subtle game it plays alternating between brawn and grace. Vigneto Bellavista is bellissimo." Robert Parker

"This awe-inspiring Chianti Classico shows blueberries, blackberries, red plums, melted chocolate, hazelnuts, violets, elderberries, heather, rose stems, ash and charcoal. Full body and a ripe yet ultra-polished sheen of tannins, which encase wonderfully rich and fresh fruit. Deep and ever so long on the finish. The silkiness is mind-boggling. Will this prove to be the greatest Chianti Classico ever made?" James Suckling

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 · 0,75l in Gift Box

The wine from the single vineyard of the same name is probably the most opulent of the selection lines of the house. The bouquet is almost brush-stroke wide with a presence of ripe fruit, spices and hints of crushed rock. On the palate it is impressively smooth and full, with a whole bouquet of dark fruit aromas flanked by firm, structured tannins. The Merlot portion gives it additional depth and power. SUPERIORE.DE

" Seductive nose of maraschino cherries, vanilla, lilac; full-bodied entry, perfectly rounded texture with tight tannins, great length and red-berry freshness, also fine leather and tobacco notes. Of great complexity." Vinum

"Deep, dark ruby with a violet tint. Opened with emphatically earthy notes, after tobacco and truffle, then lots of elderberry and blackberry. Firm and gripping tannin, shows a lot of power, full-bodied, after elderberries, in the final a bit rough, still needs storage. Falstaff

"This aromatic Chianti Classico features violet, black cherry, leather, earth and spice flavors. A laser of bracing acidity and muscular tannins runs underneath. The balance tips toward the tannins today, but put this in your cellar for another few years. Sleek and very long." Wine Spectator

"From the small vineyard facing Castello di Ama from the north, the 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows a dark and hearty side with rich fruit that flows steadily from the bouquet. Like the other new releases from this iconic estate, this wine shows a pretty earthy note that is particularly well defined and fine-tuned in this vintage. The fruit is broad, thick and horizontal. This is a Sangiovese painted with broad brush strokes. It'll stand another decade or two, or open it sooner with a pappardelle al cinghiale." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is rich, sensual and inviting, as it so often is. The addition of Merlot to Sangiovese yields a Chianti Classico built on textural resonance, with silky tannins, soft curves and tons of sheer allure. The 2016 won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is unquestionably a great wine in the making. Succulent dark cherry, red plum, menthol, licorice, cloves and new oak infuse the creamy, voluptuous finish." Vinous

"Mature black-skinned berry, rose, tilled soil and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus shape the nose. The bright, elegant palate has energy, tension and depth, delivering ripe wild cherry, red plum, licorice and crushed botanical herb. Taut, fine-grained tannins lend polished support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. A gorgeous wine." Wine Enthusiast

"Intense aroma of dark forest berries, herbs and spices, pepper above all; full bodied on the palate, the tannins and acidity in perfect balance, with a promising future, and yet already convincing the finish. Great wine." Vinum

"Deep, dark ruby with a violet tint. Impressive, multi-layered nose, of beetroot, saffron, elderberries and blackberries. Smooth and clear at the beginning and the end, with lots of thick, dense tannin, salty, juicy fruit, deep in the final. Falstaff

"Aromas of black-skinned fruit, dark spice and sunbaked soil mingle with whiffs of camphor and forest floor on this enticing blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera. The elegant, structured palate delivers black plum, ripe black cherry, star anise and crushed mint while firm, polished tannins provide support and finesse. It's well balanced, with bright acidity, while an earthy hint of game gives the finish depth." Wine Enthusiast

This is a contrast of power and refinement, with black cherry and black currant fruit encased in a sheen of oak, while burly tannins and vivid acidity enhance the structure. Awkward today, this displays incredible elegance, with a laser of vivid acidity driving the exceptional length. Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera. Best from 2023 through 2043." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista sees fruit sourced from one of Castello di Ama's most beautiful vineyards with a wide exposures and plenty of sunshine. This wine shows profound complexity and a far-reaching bouquet that evolves slowly in the glass. Of these three single-vineyard Gran Selezione wines (Bellavista, La Casuccia and San Lorenzo), the Vigneto Bellavista is the most complete, but it is also the most linear and streamlined in terms of mouthfeel. I would bet on putting this wine aside in your cellar for a longer aging time." Robert Parker

"Ama's 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista is a flat out stunner. Dark and brooding in its first impression, the 2016 races out of the glass with explosive vertical lift. This structured, potent Chianti Classico won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is immensely promising. Savory herbs, crushed rocks, chalk and dried flowers add myriad layers of dimension. The 2016 is complex, nuanced and built for cellaring." Vinous

“Vigna L’Apparita” Merlot Toscana IGT 2016 · 0,75l in Gift Box

Phenomenal wine from phenomenal vintage. The nose is full of blackberry, spices, menthol and some graphite. Then on the palate, a breathtaking class - a radiantly beautiful wine that completely captivates the wine connoisseur. An almost unfathomable potpourri of aromas and textures guides this still very young class wine into the almost endless finish. True connoisseurs absolutely grant the 2016er further years of bottle maturity, which then lets the wine become the Merlot of the century. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby violet. Opened with distinct notes of mulberry and elderberry, with a fine spice in the background. Shows a lot of hearty tannin with bite on the palate, builds up in many layers, in the aftertaste after fresh plums and dark chocolate". Falstaff

"The 2016 L'Apparita is a standout wine. A true symbol of the vintage, the wine shows the classic lines and extreme precision we can expect from 2016, with the plump, ripe generosity of the Merlot grape (when farmed in the right hands of course). The wine is profound, rich and beautifully concentrated with power but no residual heaviness. I went back to this sample a few times in the 12 hours after I popped the cork, and the wine was more beautiful each time. It offers a profound sense of beauty, harmony and Merlot purity now, and it should evolve slowly and softly in the coming years." Robert Parker

"The 2016 L'Apparita, 100% Merlot, is a breathtaking, riveting wine that captures all the potential of the vintage. In this vintage, L'Apparita is especially silky and refined. Layered, perfumed and wonderfully nuanced, L'Apparita is simply epic. Lavender, mint, sage, spice, new leather and cloves develop with time, but more than anything else, L'Apparita is wonderfully complete and magnificently beautiful." Vinous

    • "Vigneto Bellavista" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 <br>MAGNUM in Gift Box

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · MAGNUM in Gift Box

      1 bottle à 0,75l | "Vigna L'Apparita" Merlot Toscana IGT 2011 in gift box

Elegant Merlot from high vineyards, whose further development in the bottle fascinates again and again. Very inviting bouquet, ripe berry notes, elderberry and coffee. On the palate extremely fine and structured, dense, polished tannins, finishes very long and calm. SUPERIORE.DE

"Compared to 2010, the 2011 L'Apparita (100% Merlot) is a very different wine. It's impossible to imagine how Castello di Ama could improve on the utterly divine and delicious 2010, but I liked 2011 even more. Again, I just feel that this estate with its vineyards that reach beyond 500 meters in altitude performs best with warm vintages such as this one. Those who love Castello di Ama's wines will have to wait until the 2013 vintage is released. This is a gorgeous wine that sings in a loud and graceful voice. That extra cherry softness of Merlot has been pulled back to a perfect point. The wine offers layers of richness and suppleness. The effects are layered, complex and absolutely engaging. This is a standout wine." Robert Parker

"A deep and beautiful red with ripe berry, plum and orange peel character. Almost exotic in style. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a caressing texture. Goes on for minutes. So beautiful now but will be event better in 2018. Greatest L'Apparita ever?" James Suckling

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

“Vigna L’Apparita” Merlot Toscana IGT 2016 · MAGNUM in Gift Box

Shows a lot of hearty tannin with bite on the palate, builds up in many layers, in the aftertaste after fresh plums and dark chocolate." Falstaff

About the winemakersCastello di AmaTuscany | Chianti
    Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. For almost three decades, the municipalities of Gaiole and Radda Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have been producing some of the best wines in the world. The couple set new standards with their philosophy. The Castello di Ama was named Winery of the Year in 2005 by the Wine GuideGambero Rosso. The farm was founded in 1972 by four families from Rome and has since grown to 250 hectares. The vines stand on slopes up to 480 metres high, the vineyards unite harmoniously with 40 hectares of olive groves.

A birthday party had led Lorenza 1980 for the first time to the jewel in the midst of the vineyards. The Roman-born woman immediately felt at home there. Eight years later, at the age of 23, she moved to Ama and took over the management of the winery. The acquaintance of Marco Pallanti, an agronomist from Florence, motivated Lorenza to increase her knowledge of wine. Marco studied for many years at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux to deepen his knowledge of cellar management. For years, they both researched grape varieties. They studied vine rootstocks, dealt with vine cultivation systems and optimal planting density. Since Marco established the guidelines for the production, he had a decisive influence on the top level of the noble drops.

Following the example of great French wines, the first Grand Cru of Chianti Classico, the Vigneto Bellavista, was born on Castello di Ama. Other large plants followed - such as the cult wine L'Apparita, one of the best Merlot in the world. Sangiovese grapes are strictly selected for the production of Castello di Ama Chianti Classico. The British wine critic Stuart Pigott rates the wine as "authentic, Tuscan and refined". (superiore.de).

"Castello di Ama has firmly established itself among the densely populated elite of the Chianti wine scene and Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have never ceased to deliver distinctive labels that can always give us the rare sense of authenticity."Gambero Rosso
