Complex of fresh red berries without being arbitrary. Excellent balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannin. Always one of Italy's great rosés - a characterful accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and also an unforgettable treat solo! SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright medium red-pink. Very precise, juicy aromas and flavors of red cherry and herbs showcase very good size and depth, plus an enticing tactile chewy mouthfeel. A blend of mostly Sangiovese with a little Merlot. • "Ama" Chianti Classico DOCG 2018

      “Ama” Chianti Classico DOCG 2018

Castello di Ama, one of the highest vineyards in the Classico area, produces one of the best wines of its appellation every year. The grapes come from the single vineyards Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo, Bertinga and Montebuini. A fresh wine with youthful charm and aromas of cherry, plum and spice. Complex, full-bodied and with fine-grained tannin on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE

"Mid to deep crimson. Are there international interlopers here? Serious nose of cherry and strawberry fruit with a pinch of spicy oak. Elegant, tangy fruit that is concentrated at the same time and with finely grained, long tannins." Jancis Robinson

"A tight, juicy red with lots of cherries and hints of orange peel and stone. Medium to full body and light, polished tannins. Fresh finish." James Suckling

"The 2018 Chianti Classico Ama shows just how promising the vintage is. A burst of sweet red cherry fruit, cedar, leather, spice and orange peel give the 2018 a feeling of exuberance that is impossible to miss. The purity of the flavors is just striking. This is such a beautiful wine." Vinous

"This is the quintessential happy wine from Tuscany that will easily pair with wintery pici al ragù or summery pasta al pomorodo. There is enormous versatility in the all-season Castello di Ama 2018 Chianti Classico Ama. The wine is round, plump and approachable. It offers enormous freshness and the bright berry intensity of the Sangiovese grape. Red cherry and cassis are backed by red rose petal and softly fragrant potting soil." Robert Parker

    • "Al Poggio" Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

“Al Poggio” Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

Al Poggio, a cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, is light in colour with greenish reflections. The floral bouquet is accompanied by enveloping peach notes. Fresh, fruity, rich and elegant on the palate with fine minerality and the aromatic repetition of white flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Chardonnay Al Poggio is a very pretty wine with lovely varietal character. Citrus, mint and floral notes add brightness to a fresh, perfumed Chardonnay to drink over the next few years. The Chardonnay is made from three picks with different levels of ripeness for added complexity." Vinous

"The Castello di Ama 2018 Chardonnay di Toscana Al Poggio benefits from high-altitude vineyards (at about 500 meters above sea level) and the cool limestone soils of the Chianti Classico region to create this fresh, crisp and delightfully approachable white wine. The distinctively territory-specific elements you get here resemble apricot and peach, with light dustings of Italian herbs such as fresh oregano and rosemary sprig. I also noted the pristine mineral notes that frame this vintage. There is a fun blast of citrus that reminds me of those sun-kissed lemon trees grown in red clay pots that you see all over this part of Tuscany." Robert Parker

    • "San Lorenzo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016

Every year the San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the 4 classic Ama vineyards. Full bouquet of graphite, mint and black cherry. A lot of character and structure on the palate, with all the elegance that only the best Sangiovese brings to the glass. Striking tannins promise a fantastic potential for maturation! SUPERIORE.DE

"Only 3000 bottles were produced: Nose of cherries and blossoms, enveloped by herbal and sandalwood notes; in the mouth pithy, much cut, still very youthful, but fine-grained tannins. Elegant." Vinum

"Dark glowing ruby red. Deep and dark fruity nose, also spicy, of black pepper, dried rose petals, dark chocolate, blackberries and cassis. Hearty and exciting palate, delicate spice, lots of pressure and full body, long finish." Falstaff

"Lustrous mid ruby. Subtle spice and stone nose. Concentrated sweet fruit and ripe, grainy tannins in equal proportion with subtle, integrated acidity. Great length. Deserves more age." Jancis Robinson

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a blend taken from Ama's four core estate vineyards. Black cherry, graphite, sage, mint, juniper berries and licorice give the San Lorenzo a distinctly dark, brooding profile to match its powerful feel. The big tannins need time to soften, but there is certainly plenty to look forward to. Stylistically, San Lorenzo is closest to Bellavista, with which it shares a decidedly somber feel. This is such a gorgeous wine." Vinous

"This is very polished and refined with chocolate, walnut and berry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body. Licorice and berry undertones. Balanced, as always." James Suckling

"San Lorenzo is the most representative wine of Castello di Ama. Rather than a single vineyard, it's a selection across all four of the estate's sites from more mature vines with an average age of 20-25 years old. Winter mint, anise and tobacco are laced through the wine, mingling with vanilla nuances. The fruit is dense, dark and powerful in the mouth but there's a plushness on the mid-palate that lends a seductive edge. Magnificent velvety tannins keep it all in check while the finishes lingers graciously." Decanter

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is immediately more inky and balsamic in terms of aromas. As soon as you lift the wine to your nose, you get pretty tones of blackberry, cassis, rosemary essence, licorice and a touch of medicinal herb. I love when Sangiovese produces those elegant aromas, and for that reason, this wine stands tall among the three single-vineyard expressions from Marco Pallanti and Castello di Ama. It shows fiber, richness and lasting structure with a very well-managed quality of tannins." Robert Parker

"Offers stunning aromas of black cherry, blackberry and violet, with ripe, sweet fruit on the palate, shaded by iron, earth and tobacco elements. Supple yet well-structured, this should come together soon. Shows terrific harmony and length." Wine Spectator

"This opens with aromas of black- and red-skinned berry, pipe tobacco, tilled earth and a whiff of new leather. Elegant and taut, the palate shows tension, verve and finesse, delivering juicy Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, licorice and hints of French oak. It's balanced, with polished, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity." Wine Enthusiast

    • "Haiku" Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

      “Haiku” Rosso Toscana IGT 2017

Complex bouquet of ripe fruit, sage and tobacco aromas. Dense and firm on the palate with piquant tannin, very well structured and of excellent quality and purity, long and powerful finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Haiku is a blend of Sangiovese, Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Succulent dark cherry, plum, mocha, spice, new leather and licorice all flesh out in a racy, forward Tuscan red that can be enjoyed with minimal cellaring. Time in bottle should bring out more aromatic nuance and overall complexity." Vinous

"Blackberry and walnut aromas with hints of dried chocolate powder. Blackcurrants, too. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, creamy tannins and a long, pretty finish. So delicious and beautiful now. Sangiovese with some merlot and cabernet franc. Drink and enjoy." James Suckling

"The Castello di Ama 2017 Haiku (a blend of Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in supporting roles) shows a rich and powerful center of gravity, all framed by lovely freshness and lots of rich fruit fiber. It sticks firmly to the palate with big fruit intensity, plum, blackberry, spice and cured tobacco. Haiku is a very unique wine within the context of Tuscany, and I'm not just referring to the unusual blend of grapes used here. This vintage offers darkness and a level of power that we don't usually associate with Tuscany. Yet, good context is given because the Sangiovese grape adds an authentic Tuscan touch and gives the wine a sense of place." Robert Parker

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · in Gift Box

The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff

"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Robert Parker

"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni

"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

"Sparkling, rich ruby with a light garnet edge. Cool, exciting nose, opened with pronounced spicy notes, lots of cloves, some cardamom, then full of blackberry and dark cherries. Round and extremely supple at the base and in the course, it blooms beautifully, opens with fine, elegant tannins, rich draught, lots of dark berry fruit, very long aftertaste". Falstaff

"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Robert Parker

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013 · in Gift Box

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines outstanding structure with the highest elegance in its typical exemplary manner. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant, intense ruby with a slight violet hue. Very concentrated, compact nose, at the beginning lightly hints of capers and dark olive paste, then lots of plum and blackberry, deep. It shows on the palate very great play, clear and polished, opens with a lot of juicy fruit, dense tannin with a soft core, very long aftertaste, a great wine!" Falstaff

"The precision and beauty to this wine is very impressive with blueberry, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. It's tight and focused. Gorgeous." James Suckling

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is soft, open-knit and succulent. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal mint and sweet spices. The Casuccia is the most sensual and racy of the Ama wines today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the purity of the fruit is striking. The creamy, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation." Antonio Galloni

"Castello di Ama excels in cooler vintages with long growing seasons for slow-ripening Sangiovese. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows excellent results. This wine is released in limited bottle numbers and exhibits profound elegance and beauty. It is softly layered and delicate with wild berry, dried cherry and light baking spice. Vigneto la Casuccia boasts a fine level of intricate embroidery and texture." Robert Parker

"A deep, complex red, this features black currant, blackberry, spice, mineral and tobacco aromas and flavors. Monolithic now, yet with a sense of elegance. The finish is long and saturated, yet this will require some time to show its best." Wine Spectator

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013 · in Gift Box

The Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"A fine red with blueberry, lemon and mineral character. Medium body, fine tannins and a fresh and very clean finish. Linear and focused. Structured." James Suckling

"Black cherry, plum, graphite, smoke, dried Mediterranean and crushed rocks are front and center in the 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista. Searing tannins give the 2013 much of its energy and vibrancy. A dark, brooding yet austere, mid-weight wine in the best of the Bellavista tradition, the 2013 is going to need at least a few years to come into its own." Antonio Galloni

"The superb 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows impeccable balance and offers a classic portrait of Sangiovese (with a small part Malvasia Nera). Castello di Ama has a beautifully unique way of interpreting the potential of the Chianti Classico appellation and this wine is a prime example. The bouquet follows classic lines with wild berry and spice, but Vigneto Bellavista also boasts a wild side with some cured meat and animal-like aromas that suit it very well. The mouthfeel is polished and streamlined, but those dark fruit flavors should flesh out with more bottle aging." Robert Parker

"Complex and inviting aromas of sweet cherry, leather and spice lead to a core of cherry and strawberry fruit, singed by tobacco and earthy, woodsy accents." Wine Spectator

    Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. For almost three decades, the municipalities of Gaiole and Radda Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have been producing some of the best wines in the world. The couple set new standards with their philosophy. The Castello di Ama was named Winery of the Year in 2005 by the Wine GuideGambero Rosso. The farm was founded in 1972 by four families from Rome and has since grown to 250 hectares. The vines stand on slopes up to 480 metres high, the vineyards unite harmoniously with 40 hectares of olive groves.

A birthday party had led Lorenza 1980 for the first time to the jewel in the midst of the vineyards. The Roman-born woman immediately felt at home there. Eight years later, at the age of 23, she moved to Ama and took over the management of the winery. The acquaintance of Marco Pallanti, an agronomist from Florence, motivated Lorenza to increase her knowledge of wine. Marco studied for many years at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux to deepen his knowledge of cellar management. For years, they both researched grape varieties. They studied vine rootstocks, dealt with vine cultivation systems and optimal planting density. Since Marco established the guidelines for the production, he had a decisive influence on the top level of the noble drops.

Following the example of great French wines, the first Grand Cru of Chianti Classico, the Vigneto Bellavista, was born on Castello di Ama. Other large plants followed - such as the cult wine L'Apparita, one of the best Merlot in the world. Sangiovese grapes are strictly selected for the production of Castello di Ama Chianti Classico. The British wine critic Stuart Pigott rates the wine as "authentic, Tuscan and refined". (superiore.de).

"Castello di Ama has firmly established itself among the densely populated elite of the Chianti wine scene and Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have never ceased to deliver distinctive labels that can always give us the rare sense of authenticity."Gambero Rosso
