“Al Poggio” Chardonnay Toscana IGT 2022
Chardonnay Al Poggio benefits from high altitude vineyards (from around 500 metres above sea level) and the cool limestone soils of the Chianti Classico area to produce this fresh, crisp and wonderfully approachable white wine. The distinctive area-specific elements are reminiscent of apricot and peach, with light sprinklings of Italian herbs such as fresh oregano and rosemary sprigs. Fine mineral notes and fresh hints of citrus make this immensely tasty and thoroughly complex Chardonnay an ideal accompaniment to Mediterranean summer dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

“Montebuoni” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2019
Normally, the Sangiovese grapes from the 14 hectare single vineyard come mainly to the Ama and San Lorenzo. Since the 2018 harvest, Lorenza and Marco have decided to vinify a small quantity separately - and here comes the second vintage of the rare Riserva.
Deep dark ruby red with violet reflections. Extroverted bouquet of brunberry, raspberry and redcurrant, plus notes of crushed gravel, tobacco and traces of young leather. Very powerful and beautifully textured on the palate, the various layers of primary fruit only gradually fanning out, the wood pleasantly receding into the background. Finely granulated tannin and a well-integrated acidity flank the very harmonious red into an elegant, long final. There is a lot to like here, for us it is once again a typical Ama wine: racy, powerful and elegant! SUPERIORE.DE
"Exciting attack with a multi-faceted potpourri of scents; polished on the palate with well-integrated buxom tannins and accentuated acidity, seductive, pleasantly peppery final." Vinum
"Bright ruby with fine violet shimmer. Intense and clear nose with rich notes of fresh cherries, some pomegranate, fine green-spicy notes in the background. Juicy fruit in the attack and course, grippy tannin, well integrated." Falstaff
"Lustrous crimson. A finely perfumed, concentrated nose of red fruit with a flattering oak hint. Elegant sappy cherry fruit with soft gripping tannins. Closes up and needs more time to come around fully." Jancis Robinson
"The second vintage of this single-vineyard Riserva, Montebuoni is sourced from vines at least 20 years old. It provides a logical progression from Ama’s annata, made from younger vines. As with the annata, ageing is in second-use French oak barriques. A sweet herbal mix of fennel and tarragon mingles with strawberry and rhubarb. Hints of vanilla permeate throughout. Smooth and polished, it glides across the palate. Lightly powdered tannins are quite delicate and well-integrated. Mouthwatering and cheerful, with a cranberry tang." Decanter
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Montebuoni is a dark, sensual wine. Black cherry, plum, spice, licorice and dried herbs all take shape in a virile, layered Riserva that is a terrific bridge into the Gran Seleziones in the range. I would give this a few years in bottle." Vinous
"The Castello di Ama 2019 Chianti Classico Riserva Montebuoni draws its fruit from a vineyard site that sits parallel to Vigneto Bellavista about one kilometer over and enjoys similar exposures. That's where the Riserva Montebuoni comes in. This 15-hectare site was purchased by Marco Pallanti in 1997, and a lot of work went into moving earth and preparing the poor, clay-based terrain for planting. These results show beautifully concentrated fruit over a medium to full-bodied approach with lingering smoke, blackberry and sweet tobacco." Wine Advocate
"Very subtle aromas of dark berries, licorice and violets. Really floral and bright. Medium-bodied with very fine tannins that integrate beautifully into the wine. Such a lovely and sophisticated mouth-feel to this." James Suckling

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018
Every year, the San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the 4 classic Ama vineyards and only a few thousand bottles reach the specialised trade and upscale gastronomy. Full bouquet of graphite, mint and black cherry. On the palate, a lot of character and structure, with a lot of elegance, as only the best Sangiovese bring to the glass. Striking tannins promise a fantastic ageing potential! SUPERIORE.DE
"Supple at first and saturated with blackberry, dark plum and violet flavors, this red turns more tannic midpalate. gaining steam through the finish. Earth and iron elements chime in, and the ripe fruit returns on the ironclad finish." Wine Spectator
"Castello di Ama’s ‘estate’ Gran Selezione brings together fruit from its high-altitude vineyards of Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo and Montebuoni – all in Gaiole. The future direction of this wine is uncertain as it is blended with a small percentage of Merlot, which will no longer be permitted at the Gran Selezione level. It is delightfully scented with cherry, rosehip and lilac atop brushwood and forest undergrowth. Elegantly proportioned, the palate is mineral driven, vertical in extension and gracious in its execution. Oak provides a sophisticated, understated frame melding well with finessed tannins. There's a charming finale of blood orange notes." Decanter
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a deep, potent wine. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, licorice, chocolate, spice infuse the San Lorenzo with tons of dark Sangiovese character. A heady, muscular wine, the 2019 exudes tremendous richness. I would give it a few years. The 2018 is a wine of aromatic intrigue and intensity." Vinous
"The Castello di Ama 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is one of the most distinctive wines in the ample portfolio offered by this estate. I always seem to find a balsamic note in the San Lorenzo Sangiovese (a blend of some of the property's best fruit, with a touch of Merlot and Malvasia Nera thrown in), and it definitely comes through in this vintage with grilled rosemary and even a touch of black olive. This wine is truly Mediterranean in spirit and it boasts an all-Italian identity. Its supple, mid-weight texture is amplified by elegant fruit and spice. And the wine's fresh acidity makes it the ideal pairing partner with your favorite Tuscan pasta or pici recipes." Wine Advocate
"Smooth and delicious, this compelling red offers delicately enticing scents of dark-skinned fruit, pressed rose, violet and cedar. Boasting layers of flavor, the smooth palate is all about finesse, delivering ripe plum, spiced berries, licorice and crushed mint before a mocha close. Velvety tannins and fresh acidity provide seamless support and balance." Wine Enthusiast
"A tight, polished red with a very beautiful texture of firm, polished yet integrated tannins. Full-bodied with plenty of subtle dark-berry and chocolate character. Hints of walnuts, too. Flavorful finish. A little tight at the end, but already really delicious. Serious young Gran Selezione." James Suckling

“Haiku” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018
Complex bouquet of ripe fruit, sage and tobacco aromas. Dense and firm on the palate with spicy tannin, very well structured and of excellent quality and purity, long and punchy on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very attractive blackberry and blueberry aromas follow through to a full body with creamy tannins and a firm, racy finish. Hints of fresh herbs and nuts in the aftertaste." James Suckling
"The 2018 Haiku is fabulous, In fact, the 2018 might be the best vintage yet, as it has a bit more resonance and persistence than some of the earlier editions. Succulent dark cherry, plum, spice, new leather and spice build into the resonant finish." Vinous
"A blend of mostly Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Merlot in supporting roles, the Castello di Ama 2018 Haiku is a very interesting and somewhat unexpected expression that delivers big richness and lovely concentration, yet the fruit is never too ripe. In fact, it might be a tad underripe in this vintage that saw a few cooler weeks in early summer and some rain toward the end of the growing season. In all, it shows careful balance with an elegant, medium-bodied approach that is propped up by fresh and lively fruit. There are some Cabernet Franc-driven aromas of black olive tapenade. Like the other wines in this portfolio, Haiku is distinctively Mediterranean in personality." Wine Advocate

"Bright, shimmering ruby red. A little restrained on the nose at first, then of roasted hazelnut, wild berries, undergrowth, as well as fine resin and wax. On the palate polished, with fine-meshed tannin, plus beautiful sweet fruit, keeps coming back, reverberates long and juicy." Falstaff
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a wild, beautifully layered wine. Touches of Merlot and Malvasia Nera lend striking complexity and dimension to a mid-weight yet fleshy Gran Selezione. Iron, cured meats, spice, leather and dried leaves all take shape in this deceptively mid-weight yet deep, highly expressive Gran Selezione." Vinous
"Perfumed and beautiful with flowers, cherries and raspberries. Forest fruits, too. Full-bodied with extremely fine tannins that run the length of the wine and are wonderfully integrated, spreading across the palate. Lasts for minutes. Better after 2025, but already fantastic." James Suckling

“Ama” Chianti Classico DOCG 2020 · MAGNUM
Castello di Ama, one of the highest wineries in the Classico area, produces one of the best wines of its appellation every year with the Ama. The grapes come from the single vineyards Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo, Bertinga and Montebuoni. A fresh wine with youthful charm and aromas of cherry, plum and spicy notes. Complex, full-bodied and with fine-grained tannin on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"An expression of Castello di Ama’s young vines - 10 to 12 years old - Ama is aged in second passage barriques. The delightfully fruity and vibrant nose exudes rose and lavender, with oak notes in the background. Plump sweet fruit on the mid-palate speaks to the modest dollop of Merlot in the blend. The tannins are velvety and polished, and the acidity is refreshing. A citrussy tang brings this near-term charmer to a close." Decanter
"Fleshy and firm, with plum, cherry, iron and Tuscan scrub flavors. Reveals tannins, but is mouthwatering in the end." Wine Spectator
"Castello di Ama settles on a tried-and-true formula with its 2020 Chianti Classico Ama. The trick is to present the elegant side of Sangiovese (blended in this case with a touch of Merlot) while also remaining fun, accessible and easy-drinking. The 2020 vintage brings forth a bit more heat and fruit concentration, but it also shows delicate cassis, red rose and Mediterranean aromas. The tannins are gentle and the mouthfeel is streamlined." Wine Advocate
"The 2020 Chianti Classico Ama is a pretty, understated wine that shows the vivid side of Sangiovese in its bright, red-fleshed fruit. Medium bodied and vibrant, with brisk acids and lifted aromatics, the 2020 is a gorgeous wine to drink now and over the next 10-15 years. Ama is the estate's young-vines Chianti Classico. I loved it." Vinous
"Blue flower, sandalwood, cassis and spice shape the nose on this lovely red. All about finesse and youthful tension, the savory, elegantly structured palate features juicy Morello cherry, coffee bean and star anise framed in taut, fine-grained tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it balanced and focused." Wine Enthusiast
"A fresh and composed red with blackcurrant and blueberry aromas with minerals and citrus underneath. It's medium-bodied with fine tannins and a racy, long finish." James Suckling

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2017 · MAGNUM
Every year, the San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the 4 classic Ama vineyards and only a few thousand bottles reach the specialised trade and upscale gastronomy. Full bouquet of graphite, mint and black cherry. On the palate, lots of character and structure, with plenty of elegance, as only the best Sangiovese bring to the glass. Striking tannins promise a fantastic ageing potential! SUPERIORE.DE
"Leafy, eucalyptus and juniper aromas and flavors lead off, with cherry and black currant close behind. Stiff tannins leave an astringent feel, but there is fruit underneath. Overall, this is very fresh and vibrant." Wine Spectator
"Oenologist Marco Pallanti chose not to make Castello di Ama's single vineyard Bellavista and La Casuccia bottlings in 2017 as he felt the excessively hot conditions gave slightly aggressive tannins. Instead, he focused on making the best possible selection from all vineyards to go into the San Lorenzo Gran Selezione. It opens with lots of dusty cherry, dry earth and sweet thyme. Well-stacked with round fruit, the palate is lifted by pressed violet nuances. Assertive but polished tannins give definition, the wood is understated and acidity bright and integrated. Besides deft balance, San Lorenzo demonstrates admirable elegance and is a great success in this challenging vintage." Decanter
"Underbrush, ripe black-skinned fruit, new leather and violet mingle with a whiff of exotic spice on this fragrant, elegantly structured red. The medium-bodied palate delivers ripe black cherry, cassis and star anise framed in polished, enveloping tannins. It shows the firm's hallmark of finesse and impeccable balance, not easy to achieve in this scorching vintage." Wine Enthusiast
"Cherries, dried flowers and slate on the nose with some fresh mushrooms. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a juicy, chewy finish. Lots of structure and freshness to this. Extremely serious as always. Tight and focused." James Suckling
"The 2017 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a fabulous choice for readers looking for an Ama wine to drink now. Radiant and expressive, with striking depth and exceptional balance, the 2017 is pure seduction. Sweet red cherry, kirsch, rose petal, blood orange and spice fill out the layers effortlessly. This is so beautifully done." Vinous

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2013 · 0,75l in gift box
Chianti Classico La Casuccia from a single vineyard of the same name with Gran-Selezione status combines outstanding structure with the highest elegance in its typical exemplary manner. SUPERIORE.DE
"Brilliant, intense ruby with a slight violet hue. Very concentrated, compact nose, at the beginning lightly hints of capers and dark olive paste, then lots of plum and blackberry, deep. It shows on the palate very great play, clear and polished, opens with a lot of juicy fruit, dense tannin with a soft core, very long aftertaste, a great wine!" Falstaff
"The precision and beauty to this wine is very impressive with blueberry, blackberry and dark chocolate aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a clean finish. It's tight and focused. Gorgeous." James Suckling
"The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is soft, open-knit and succulent. Silky tannins wrap around a core of dark red cherry, plum, rose petal mint and sweet spices. The Casuccia is the most sensual and racy of the Ama wines today. It should drink well with minimal cellaring. Once again, the purity of the fruit is striking. The creamy, explosive finish is a thing of beauty. The second time I tasted the 2013 one word came to mind: elation." Antonio Galloni
"Castello di Ama excels in cooler vintages with long growing seasons for slow-ripening Sangiovese. The 2013 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows excellent results. This wine is released in limited bottle numbers and exhibits profound elegance and beauty. It is softly layered and delicate with wild berry, dried cherry and light baking spice. Vigneto la Casuccia boasts a fine level of intricate embroidery and texture." Wine Advocate
"A deep, complex red, this features black currant, blackberry, spice, mineral and tobacco aromas and flavors. Monolithic now, yet with a sense of elegance. The finish is long and saturated, yet this will require some time to show its best." Wine Spectator

Round and extremely supple at the base and in the course, it blooms beautifully, opens with fine, elegant tannins, rich draught, lots of dark berry fruit, very long aftertaste". Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is opulent and voluptuous with thick lines of dark fruit and spice that characterize the bouquet. More than heft and power, this wine delivers excellent complexity with layers of black truffle, grilled herb and cherry cola that add vertical lift." Wine Advocate
"A wine of pure femininity and grace, the 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is wonderfully fleshy and radiant in the glass. Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. “Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · 0,75l in gift box
The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff
"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Wine Advocate
"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni
"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2018
This wine from the single vineyard of the same name is probably the most opulent of the house's selection line. On the nose, an almost brushstroke-wide presence of ripe fruit, spices and hints of crushed rock. On the palate, impressive suppleness, complexity and richness, plus a whole bouquet of dark fruit flavours flanked by firm, structured tannin. The Merlot content gives it additional depth and power. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, intense ruby red. Very intense and complex nose, of violets, rose petals and sour cherry, also nice blackberry. Juicy in attack and course, opens with precise, very well placed tannin, long and deep, still has a long life ahead of it." Falstaff
"All about elegance, this fragrant red opens with aromas of cedar, dark spice, coffee bean and blue flower. Linear and polished, the palate is still rather youthfully austere, featuring juicy black cherry, cassis and licorice framed in fine-grained tannins." Wine Enthusiast
"A very polished and refined bottle with creamy, velvety tannins that are poised and fine. Medium-bodied with a lovely center palate and a flavorful finish. Try after 2022 and onwards." James Suckling
"This is packed with succulent blackberry, black cherry, plum, tar, iron and tobacco aromas and flavors, aligned with a base of burly tannins. Fresh and vigorous, with a lingering aftertaste of fruit, mineral and wild herbs." Wine Spectator
"The Castello di Ama 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia offers ample volume and fruit weight, but it holds back slightly on the mid-palate. The 2018 vintage tends to deliver all of its brooding intensity up front, leaving you with plenty of black fruit, spice and tobacco to fuel a long finish." Wine Advocate
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is fabulous. A heady, opulent wine, the 2018 possesses tremendous energy to match its explosive personality. The plush fruit and soft, silky curves are pure Casuccia. The 2018 needs at least a handful of years in bottle, as it is a wine that only truly blossoms with time." Vinous

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015 · 0,75l in gift box
The Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista plays very true to type, with expressive aromatic top notes from the Malvasia Nera that gives the wine its distinctive savory/floral profile. Sage lavender, black pepper, menthol and juniper berry all grow in the glass. Towering and statuesque in its presence, the 2015 is going to need a number of years to be at its best." Antonio Galloni
"This wine is one of the true protagonists of the 2015 vintage. The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista offers an unreal level of intensity and depth with profound darkness and perfectly integrated tannins versus acidity. This wine was not produced in 2014. This vintage only saw 4,200 bottles made. The wine pours forth with rich fruit that is tightly woven within the wine's generous texture. Spice, smoke and tobacco appear as brief afterthoughts. Despite the beauty of the bouquet, this wine is ultimately all about the finesse and the elegance of its mouthfeel and that subtle game it plays alternating between brawn and grace. Vigneto Bellavista is bellissimo." Wine Advocate
"This awe-inspiring Chianti Classico shows blueberries, blackberries, red plums, melted chocolate, hazelnuts, violets, elderberries, heather, rose stems, ash and charcoal. Full body and a ripe yet ultra-polished sheen of tannins, which encase wonderfully rich and fresh fruit. Deep and ever so long on the finish. The silkiness is mind-boggling. Will this prove to be the greatest Chianti Classico ever made?" James Suckling

“Vigna L’Apparita” Merlot Toscana IGT 2018
The single-varietal Merlot L'Apparita 2018 is outstanding - elegance, strength of character, a remarkably fine tannin and acid structure as well as the endlessly long persistence characterise this exceptional Merlot. An oenological rarity of Tuscany and not only therefore an object of desire every year. A combination of fruity and spicy impressions on the nose, excellent fleshy taste, whose juicy, still quite concise tannin blends well with the warm body. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, intense ruby with a pronounced violet shimmer. Rich nose with notes of mulberries and black cherries, fine spicy components in the background. Shows a lot of dark fruit on the nose, then opens up with lots of tightly woven tannin in several layers, can quietly mature a bit more." Falstaff
"Black currant, black cherry, blueberry, wild herb and earth flavors are nicely displayed on the polished frame of this fluid and harmonious red, with dusty tannins lining the finish. More on the elegant side than powerful." Wine Spectator
"One of the rare instances where Merlot excels in Tuscany, this gorgeous wine opens with enticing aromas of dark-skinned berry, new leather, camphor and dark spice. Continuing where the nose left off, the elegant, delicious palate delivers cassis, ripe blackberry, licorice and crushed mint alongside the barest note of truffle. It's a world-class wine with breeding, extreme finesse and great depth. It's impeccably balanced, with a backbone of velvety tannins and fresh acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"Hard dark-chocolate aromas with blackberries and blue fruit. Pure and gorgeous. Full-bodied with gorgeous, polished tannins that are intense and powerful, yet ever so precise and together. It’s so curated and real with a great finish. One of the best merlots from Ama in a long time." James Suckling
"The 2018 L'Apparita is a total stunner. Ama's 100% Merlot is usually a wine of bombastic intensity, but the 2018 marks a departure from that style, as it is all finesse and nuance. Blackberry jam, spice, menthol and lavender are some of the aromas and flavors that open in an Apparita that dazzles with its precision and nuance. Rain at the end of August pushed out harvest and gave Marco Pallanti the ideal conditions to craft this gorgeous wine." Vinous
"This wine has earned its spot in a world of pantheons that is grande vini Italiani. The Castello di Ama 2018 L'Apparita is one of the world's greatest Merlots, and this slightly cooler growing season delivers on all the promise and pedigree that we should expect of this collectors' favorite. L'Apparita opens to an inky dark and blackish appearance, and the bouquet slowly reveals black fruit, ripe cherry, dark spice, smoke and barbecue rub. The wine's texture and finish, which is so velvety and rich, so supple and soft, is what will ultimately win you over. Indeed, this wine excels especially in terms of the elegance and fullness of the mouthfeel." Wine Advocate

The Gran Selezione from the single vineyard Bellavista is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and rich on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense, compact nose with rich notes of blackberry and dark cherry, in the background fine spicy notes, cardamom and dried ginger. Juicy and intense in attack and course, lots of cherry, some plum, fine-meshed, dense tannin in the final full pressure." Falstaff
"Camphor, dark spice, blue flower and a whiff of forest floor shape the alluring nose on this delicious red. Elegantly structured and all about finesse and flavor, the savory, focused palate delivers juicy Marasca cherry, orange zest, licorice and cassis alongside taut, ultrarefined tannins. Made with 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera, it's beautifully balanced, with bright acidity." Wine Enthusiast
"A rich, intense red, displaying black cherry, blackberry, menthol, iron and graphite flavors, this is polished and expressive, yet with beefy tannins lining the chalky finish. All the components are there - this just needs time." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista comes roaring out the gate with intensity and power. This is a generous and exuberant wine with dark fruit, pressed blackberry, plenty of spice and great overall dimension. It's truly gorgeous, yet I might consider a slightly shorter drinking window for this full-bodied vintage." Wine Advocate
"This is a very deep and serious Chianti Classico with bark, dark-mushroom and blackberry aromas that follow through to a full body with very polished and integrated tannins that are long and classy. A sophisticated and glorious wine. Drink in 2024 and onwards, but already very pretty." James Suckling
"The 2018 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista marries Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera, a combination that works so well. The Bellavista is a powerful, vertical wine endowed with explosive and tremendous energy. Like all the top wines, it needs the better part of a decade to show all it's got. Gravel, smoke, leather, licorice and scorched earth." Vinous

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2016 · 0,75l in gift box
The wine from the single vineyard of the same name is probably the most opulent of the selection lines of the house. The bouquet is almost brush-stroke wide with a presence of ripe fruit, spices and hints of crushed rock. On the palate it is impressively smooth and full, with a whole bouquet of dark fruit aromas flanked by firm, structured tannins. The Merlot portion gives it additional depth and power. SUPERIORE.DE
" Seductive nose of maraschino cherries, vanilla, lilac; full-bodied entry, perfectly rounded texture with tight tannins, great length and red-berry freshness, also fine leather and tobacco notes. Of great complexity." Vinum
"Deep, dark ruby with a violet tint. Opened with emphatically earthy notes, after tobacco and truffle, then lots of elderberry and blackberry. Firm and gripping tannin, shows a lot of power, full-bodied, after elderberries, in the final a bit rough, still needs storage. Falstaff
"This aromatic Chianti Classico features violet, black cherry, leather, earth and spice flavors. A laser of bracing acidity and muscular tannins runs underneath. The balance tips toward the tannins today, but put this in your cellar for another few years. Sleek and very long." Wine Spectator
"From the small vineyard facing Castello di Ama from the north, the 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia shows a dark and hearty side with rich fruit that flows steadily from the bouquet. Like the other new releases from this iconic estate, this wine shows a pretty earthy note that is particularly well defined and fine-tuned in this vintage. The fruit is broad, thick and horizontal. This is a Sangiovese painted with broad brush strokes. It'll stand another decade or two, or open it sooner with a pappardelle al cinghiale." Wine Advocate
"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is rich, sensual and inviting, as it so often is. The addition of Merlot to Sangiovese yields a Chianti Classico built on textural resonance, with silky tannins, soft curves and tons of sheer allure. The 2016 won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is unquestionably a great wine in the making. Succulent dark cherry, red plum, menthol, licorice, cloves and new oak infuse the creamy, voluptuous finish." Vinous
"Mature black-skinned berry, rose, tilled soil and a balsamic whiff of eucalyptus shape the nose. The bright, elegant palate has energy, tension and depth, delivering ripe wild cherry, red plum, licorice and crushed botanical herb. Taut, fine-grained tannins lend polished support while fresh acidity keeps it balanced. A gorgeous wine." Wine Enthusiast

"Intense aroma of dark forest berries, herbs and spices, pepper above all; full bodied on the palate, the tannins and acidity in perfect balance, with a promising future, and yet already convincing the finish. Great wine." Vinum
"Deep, dark ruby with a violet tint. Impressive, multi-layered nose, of beetroot, saffron, elderberries and blackberries. Smooth and clear at the beginning and the end, with lots of thick, dense tannin, salty, juicy fruit, deep in the final. Falstaff
"Aromas of black-skinned fruit, dark spice and sunbaked soil mingle with whiffs of camphor and forest floor on this enticing blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% Malvasia Nera. The elegant, structured palate delivers black plum, ripe black cherry, star anise and crushed mint while firm, polished tannins provide support and finesse. It's well balanced, with bright acidity, while an earthy hint of game gives the finish depth." Wine Enthusiast
This is a contrast of power and refinement, with black cherry and black currant fruit encased in a sheen of oak, while burly tannins and vivid acidity enhance the structure. Awkward today, this displays incredible elegance, with a laser of vivid acidity driving the exceptional length. Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera. Best from 2023 through 2043." Wine Spectator
"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista sees fruit sourced from one of Castello di Ama's most beautiful vineyards with a wide exposures and plenty of sunshine. This wine shows profound complexity and a far-reaching bouquet that evolves slowly in the glass. Of these three single-vineyard Gran Selezione wines (Bellavista, La Casuccia and San Lorenzo), the Vigneto Bellavista is the most complete, but it is also the most linear and streamlined in terms of mouthfeel. I would bet on putting this wine aside in your cellar for a longer aging time." Wine Advocate
"Ama's 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista is a flat out stunner. Dark and brooding in its first impression, the 2016 races out of the glass with explosive vertical lift. This structured, potent Chianti Classico won't be ready to drink anytime soon, but it is immensely promising. Savory herbs, crushed rocks, chalk and dried flowers add myriad layers of dimension. The 2016 is complex, nuanced and built for cellaring." Vinous

“Vigneto La Casuccia” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2019
This wine from the single vineyard of the same name is probably the most opulent of the house's selection line. On the nose, an almost brushstroke-wide presence of ripe fruit, spices and hints of crushed rock. On the palate, impressive suppleness, complexity and richness, plus a whole bouquet of dark fruit flavours flanked by firm, structured tannin. The Merlot content gives it additional depth and power. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark ruby red. In the nose of rich cherry fruit, interwoven with blackberries and wild berries, fine undergrowth, plus a hint of mint and malt. Tightly woven on the palate with a magnificent fan, stretches elegantly over the tongue, great juiciness in the back, in addition noble spice in the final, powerful, will age magnificently." Falstaff
"Cool blueberry aromas with purple fruit and an inky highlight. Black licorice as well. Full-bodied with firm and racy tannins that are polished yet structured. Fairly tight and closed right now. It needs time to open and soften with bottle age. Try after 2025." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto la Casuccia is a wine of intensity, volume and power. Yet it also shows impeccable balance thanks to the deft hands of the estate winemaking team. I find this edition of la Casuccia, with fruit from a steep vineyard that faces the Castello, to be especially full and rich. Fruit weight and concentration is indeed a characteristic of this classic growing season, and this wine wears it well. You are treated to plenty of blackberry, spice, tobacco and grilled herb." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto La Casuccia is stunning. What a wine! In this vintage, the aromatics are huge and expansive, a theme that comes through on the palate as well. Cedar, tobacco, dried leaves, incense and blood orange all race out of the glass. The 2019 is mind-blowing in its intensity, pedigree and overall balance. It's the wine of the vintage in Chianti Classico." Vinous

On the palate very juicy game with clear fruit, shows a lot of breed, plus young, fresh tannin in many layers, still needs some time, will come together splendidly." Falstaff
"Blackberry, brambleberry, bark and mushroom aromas follow through to a full body with deep and chewy tannins and a long finish. This is very structured. Needs time to soften. Drink after 2025." James Suckling
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista soars out of the glass with breathtaking intensity in all of its dimensions. The aromatics alone are striking, but that's just the beginning. Rich and sumptuous on the palate, the 2019 is the most refined Bellavista I have ever tasted, and I have tasted them all. A healthy dollop of Malvasia Nera adds savory notes and a good deal of grip, while clean mineral nuances extend the finish. The tannins are especially polished, which they rarely are in a young Bellavista." Vinous
"The 2019 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista is only produced in the very best vintages. This stunning wine reveals beautiful concentration with just the right amount of fruit weight, which feels rich but not heavy. The exceptional single-varietal Merlot L'Apparita is outstanding with its elegance, strength of character, fine tannin and acid structure and endless length. "Dark, bright ruby red. In the nose on mint, cranberry, cedar wood, in addition elegant blackberry nuances. Shows very polished and multilayered on the palate, opens dark berry in the core with great grip, tightly woven, great length with rich pressure on the finish, can calmly store a bit more." Falstaff
"Enticing aromas of blackberries and violets with some fresh black olives. Fresh violets as well. Full-bodied and very rich and layered with velvety tannins and a long, long finish. Lingering flavors of dark chocolate in the finish. Powerful merlot here. Drink after 2026." James Suckling
"One of the stars of Italian enology, this iconic wine is Merlot in name but Tuscan in spirit. The L'Apparita is a gorgeous wine and one that brings an enormous sense of excitement and energy to those who drink it. Its texture is soft and rich, yet the tannins are gentle and round. There is plenty of substance and structure here, however, with seamless layers of black fruit, cherry, sweet spice and tobacco. The wine's complexity is enhanced by elegant mineral tones and a subtle, menthol-like signature. Temperature control and careful pump-overs are executed, and great care is taken during harvest to avoid any overripe berries. Cool, calcareous soils with many stones serve to insulate the roots and lock in freshness. The secret of this wine is magic of site, exposure and geology." Wine Advocate
"The 2019 L'Apparita is incredibly powerful in this vintage. Huge searing tannins wrap around a core of dark-fleshed fruit. Incense, tobacco, chocolate, mocha, lavender and spice open, but only reluctantly. Whereas most 2019s in the Ama range are quite inviting at this stage, L'Apparita is a wine for the cellar. In other words, the 2019 is a tight, backward Apparita that demands patience." Vinous

Rose petal, sweet red cherry, tobacco, mint and spices meld together as this effortless, supple wine shows off its undeniably appealing personality. "Rich and modern, pure and expressive, with violet, black currant, cherry and spice flavors that ride the racy profile and dense tannic structure to a long, lingering aftertaste of fruit and spice." Wine Spectator

1 bottle à 0,75l | "Vigna L'Apparita" Merlot Toscana IGT 2011 in gift box
Elegant Merlot from high altitude vineyards, whose further development in the bottle always fascinates. Very inviting bouquet, ripe berry note, elderberry and coffee. Extremely fine and structured on the palate, dense, polished tannins, finishes very long and relaxed. SUPERIORE.DE
"Compared to 2010, the 2011 L'Apparita (100% Merlot) is a very different wine. It's impossible to imagine how Castello di Ama could improve on the utterly divine and delicious 2010, but I liked 2011 even more. Again, I just feel that this estate with its vineyards that reach beyond 500 meters in altitude performs best with warm vintages such as this one. Those who love Castello di Ama's wines will have to wait until the 2013 vintage is released. This is a gorgeous wine that sings in a loud and graceful voice. That extra cherry softness of Merlot has been pulled back to a perfect point. The wine offers layers of richness and suppleness. The effects are layered, complex and absolutely engaging. This is a standout wine." Wine Advocate
"A deep and beautiful red with ripe berry, plum and orange peel character. Almost exotic in style. Full body, ultra-fine tannins and a caressing texture. Goes on for minutes. So beautiful now but will be event better in 2018. Greatest L'Apparita ever?" James Suckling

Chianti Classico La Casuccia from the single vineyard of the same name with Gran Selezione status combines in its typical way exemplary excellent structure with the highest elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
Sweet, silky tannins wrap around a super-expressive finish laced with knock-out aromatics. The 2011 is firing on all cylinders today." VINOUS
"Amazing aromas of crushed dark fruits with raspberry, blueberry and blackberry. Dried flowers and violets too, plus tanned leather. Full body, ultra-fine yet dense tannins and a finish that lasts for minutes. Stunning texture. One of the greatest Chianti Classicos ever made." James Suckling

The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista single vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and rich on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE
Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." VINOUS

Castello di Ama is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. For almost three decades, the municipalities of Gaiole and Radda Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have been producing some of the best wines in the world. The couple set new standards with their philosophy. The Castello di Ama was named Winery of the Year in 2005 by the Wine GuideGambero Rosso. The farm was founded in 1972 by four families from Rome and has since grown to 250 hectares. The vines stand on slopes up to 480 metres high, the vineyards unite harmoniously with 40 hectares of olive groves.
A birthday party had led Lorenza 1980 for the first time to the jewel in the midst of the vineyards. The Roman-born woman immediately felt at home there. Eight years later, at the age of 23, she moved to Ama and took over the management of the winery. The acquaintance of Marco Pallanti, an agronomist from Florence, motivated Lorenza to increase her knowledge of wine. Marco studied for many years at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux to deepen his knowledge of cellar management. For years, they both researched grape varieties. They studied vine rootstocks, dealt with vine cultivation systems and optimal planting density. Since Marco established the guidelines for the production, he had a decisive influence on the top level of the noble drops.
Following the example of great French wines, the first Grand Cru of Chianti Classico, the Vigneto Bellavista, was born on Castello di Ama. Other large plants followed - such as the cult wine L'Apparita, one of the best Merlot in the world. Sangiovese grapes are strictly selected for the production of Castello di Ama Chianti Classico. The British wine critic Stuart Pigott rates the wine as "authentic, Tuscan and refined". (superiore.de).
"Castello di Ama has firmly established itself among the densely populated elite of the Chianti wine scene and Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have never ceased to deliver distinctive labels that can always give us the rare sense of authenticity."Gambero Rosso
