“Purple Rosé" Rosato Toscana IGT 2018

Complex of fresh red berries without being arbitrary. Excellent balance of fruit, acidity and fine tannin. Always one of Italy's great rosés - a characterful accompaniment to Mediterranean dishes and also an unforgettable treat solo! SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright medium red-pink. Very precise, juicy aromas and flavors of red cherry and herbs showcase very good size and depth, plus an enticing tactile chewy mouthfeel. A blend of mostly Sangiovese with a little Merlot. Co-owner and winemaker Marco Pallanti is one of those gifted winemakers who would have trouble making a bad wine even if he sets out to do so on purpose." Vinous

    • "Il Chiuso" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

“Il Chiuso” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Il Chiuso is a wonderfully delicious blend of Sangiovese and Pinot Nero. In the bouquet sweet red cherries, flowers, mint and other spices. Fruity, well balanced and with silky tannins. The addition of Pinot Noir gives the wine a certain grace and elegance. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Il Chiuso is gorgeous. The fruit and inner perfume are clearly those of Pinot, but the acid profile and structure are deeply inflected with Ama nuances. Although not an especially varietal wine, the Chiuso is super-attractive and highly appealing. Dark cherry, plum, lavender and rose petal run through this expressive, midweight wine." “Al Poggio” Bianco Toscana IGT 2018

Al Poggio, a cuvée of Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio, is of light colour with greenish reflections. The floral bouquet is accompanied by enveloping peach notes. Fresh, fruity, rich and elegant on the palate with fine minerality and the aromatic repetition of white flowers. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Chardonnay Al Poggio is a very pretty wine with lovely varietal character. Citrus, mint and floral notes add brightness to a fresh, perfumed Chardonnay to drink over the next few years. The Chardonnay is made from three picks with different levels of ripeness for added complexity." Vinous

    • "Ama" Chianti Classico DOCG 2017

      “Ama” Chianti Classico DOCG 2017

Castello di Ama, one of the highest wineries in the Classico area, produces one of the best wines of its appellation every year. The grapes come from the Bellavista, Casuccia, San Lorenzo, Bertinga and Montebuini vineyards. A fresh wine with youthful charm and aromas of cherry, plum and spicy notes. Multilayered, full-bodied and with fine-grained tannin on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE

"Mid crimson. Dusty but fine cherry fruit nose with a hint of iron. Succulent lively cherry fruit. No huge impact or depth but elegant, tangy and appetising." Jancis Robinson

"The 2017 Chianti Classico Ama is a terrific wine that opens to a mid-weight feel but produces an enormously expressive bouquet. The hot vintage has shaped warm tones of tilled earth and dark fruit but it is all carefully weighed and in context. The wine is open, accessible and generous." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Chianti Classico Ama is fabulous. Racy and voluptuous to the core the Ama captures all the richness of the vintage while retaining a great deal of aromatic freshness and energy. Succulent red cherry, plum, rose petal, mint and sweet spice build in an open-knit, inviting Chianti Classico that hits all the right notes. This is a terrific showing from Ama's young-vine Chianti Classico bottling." Vinous

    • "San Lorenzo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2014

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2014

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the single vineyard San Lorenzo shows depth and concentration. In the bouquet wonderful aromas of dried orange peels, cherries, cedar and coffee, elegant taste, very harmonious with silky tannins and good length. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo flaunts its importance. It boasts confidence and an outward-looking personality that comes as a refreshing surprise. Like all Gran Selezione wines, it is released 30 months after January 1st following the harvest. That means it still has a few more months to go before it hits the market. This expression of Sangiovese shows depth and power with ripe fruit tones of cherry and forest berry. Like many of the other high profile wines I preview-tasted from the difficult 2014 vintage, I am delighted and surprised by the elegant and soft nature of the mature tannins. The wine’s finish offers bright freshness with layers of dark fruit, wet earth and forest floor." Robert Parker

"Ama's 2014 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is one of the successes of this very challenging vintage. Then again, Ama did not bottle their flagship Casuccia and Bellavista Chianti Classicos. Instead, all of the best fruit went into the San Lorenzo. A dark, rich wine, the 2014 possesses notable depth and persistence. Black cherry, plum, mocha, leather and spice notes give the wine its signature dark profile. At the same time, there is more than enough freshness to support a number of years of very fine drinking. The flavors are a bit forward, so I would not wait too long on the 2014." Antonio Galloni

"This is extremely tangy with plenty of chocolate and lemon character and hints of cedar, too. Medium body, bright acidity and chocolatey aftertaste. Very refined and well-crafted for a 2014." James Suckling

"Marco Pallanti decided not to bottle his single-vineyard Vigneto Bellavista and Vigneto La Casuccia in the difficult 2014 vintage, devoting that fruit instead to this bottling of San Lorenzo. It rounds out its wild-cherry flavors with subtle notes of spice and woodsmoke from ten months in barriques while brisk acidity lends freshness, emphasized by notes of orange peel and mint." • "San Lorenzo" Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015

“San Lorenzo” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2015

Chianti Classico Gran Selezione from the single vineyard San Lorenzo shows depth and concentration. In the bouquet wonderful aromas of dried orange peels, cherries, cedar and coffee, elegant taste, very harmonious with silky tannins and good length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby with a slight violet shimmer. A lot of crunchy fruit, plums and fresh cherries, some violet, very clear. Very juicy and clear also on the palate, has a lot of crunchy, fresh fruit, fine-meshed and yet present tannin, salty." Falstaff

"A bold, racy wine, the 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo captures all the exuberance of the year while retaining a good bit of structure. Like all the Ama wines, the San Lorenzo packs a serious punch in its dark flavors and intense, muscular feel. The San Lorenzo is essentially a second selection of lots from the dual flagship Gran Seleziones La Casuccia and Bellavista. Lavender, spice and menthol add the closing shades of nuance. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot and Malvasia Nera. More importantly, the San Lorenzo is another very serious wine in this range." Antonio Galloni

"What first strikes you about the nose is that it offers one of the purest fruit expressions of all the 2015 Gran Seleziones. Blackcurrants, orange and lemon rind, brambleberries, heather, sage, thyme and blackberry leaves are all a feature. The tannins are steely, and the flavors are so savory. The fruit is carried through to the long, chewy finish by the highly refreshing acidity." James Suckling

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo represents a blend of some of the estate's best Sangiovese from vines that are 20 years old and more. You do feel that extra density, intensity and complexity within the very fiber of this beautiful wine. The effect is deep and layered. Castello di Ama is characterized by limestone clay soils mixed with both galestro and alberese marl stones. There is about 60 centimeters of topsoil and compacted clay below that." Robert Parker

Every year San Lorenzo is the result of the best grapes from the 4 classic Ama sites. Full bouquet of graphite, mint and black cherry. On the palate a lot of character and structure, but also a lot of elegance that only the best Sangiovese bring into the glass. Striking tannins promise a fantastic maturing potential! SUPERIORE.DE

"Lustrous mid ruby. Subtle spice and stone nose. Concentrated sweet fruit and ripe, grainy tannins in equal proportion with subtle, integrated acidity. Great length. Deserves more age." Jancis Robinson

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Castello di Ama San Lorenzo is a blend taken from Ama's four core estate vineyards. Black cherry, graphite, sage, mint, juniper berries and licorice give the San Lorenzo a distinctly dark, brooding profile to match its powerful feel. The big tannins need time to soften, but there is certainly plenty to look forward to. Stylistically, San Lorenzo is closest to Bellavista, with which it shares a decidedly somber feel. This is such a gorgeous wine." Vinous

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo is immediately more inky and balsamic in terms of aromas. As soon as you lift the wine to your nose, you get pretty tones of blackberry, cassis, rosemary essence, licorice and a touch of medicinal herb. I love when Sangiovese produces those elegant aromas, and for that reason, this wine stands tall among the three single-vineyard expressions from Marco Pallanti and Castello di Ama. It shows fiber, richness and lasting structure with a very well-managed quality of tannins." Robert Parker

"Offers stunning aromas of black cherry, blackberry and violet, with ripe, sweet fruit on the palate, shaded by iron, earth and tobacco elements. Supple yet well-structured, this should come together soon. Shows terrific harmony and length." Wine Spectator

“Vigneto Bellavista” Chianti Classico Gran Selezione DOCG 2011 · in Gift Box

The 2011 edition of the Gran Selezione from the Bellavista vineyard is rich and dark with aromas of wild cherry, smoke, liquorice, menthol and tobacco. Extremely attractive and full-bodied on the palate, firm tannins form the backbone of this virile, potent wine. SUPERIORE.DE

"Full, dark ruby, light violet shimmer. Opened in the nose with fine spicy notes, to sandalwood, some vanilla, then full of plums. In the beginning much present fruit, opens with dense, hearty tannin, discreet earthy notes, in the finale long reverberation, fine and elegant." Falstaff

"The 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista opens to dark concentration, bold intensity and an immediate delivery of ripe fruit flavors. Stylistically speaking, this single-vineyard Grand Selezione is extracted, muscular and extremely fruit forward. The heat of the 2011 vintage comes through loud and clear. Happily, the mouthfeel is tighter and more focused with dusty minerality on the tannins and long persistency." Robert Parker

"Ama's 2011 Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Vigneto Bellavista shows the darker, more brooding style of Sangiovese at Ama. Graphite, smoke, tar, licorice, incense and cloves wrap around a core of dark fruit. A wine of gravitas and vertical structure, the 2011 will reward several decades of cellaring. This is an unusually stern wine for the vintage though. Readers will have to be patient to experience the Bellavista at its best. Still, I can't help notice how much the 2011 has grown in bottle over the last year." Antonio Galloni

"Rich and elegant, with black cherry, black currant, violet and boysenberry flavors allied to a sleek frame. Dense and weightless at once, with a lingering aftertaste of tobacco and tea. Presents a fine balance and aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"A fresh and layered red with blackberry, blueberry and mint character. Full body, firm tannins and a fresh finish. Minerally." James Suckling

    Castello di Ama

Castello di Ama is located in the heart of the Chianti Classico area. For almost three decades, the municipalities of Gaiole and Radda Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have been producing some of the best wines in the world. The couple set new standards with their philosophy. The Castello di Ama was named Winery of the Year in 2005 by the Wine GuideGambero Rosso. The farm was founded in 1972 by four families from Rome and has since grown to 250 hectares. The vines stand on slopes up to 480 metres high, the vineyards unite harmoniously with 40 hectares of olive groves.

A birthday party had led Lorenza 1980 for the first time to the jewel in the midst of the vineyards. The Roman-born woman immediately felt at home there. Eight years later, at the age of 23, she moved to Ama and took over the management of the winery. The acquaintance of Marco Pallanti, an agronomist from Florence, motivated Lorenza to increase her knowledge of wine. Marco studied for many years at the Faculty of Oenology in Bordeaux to deepen his knowledge of cellar management. For years, they both researched grape varieties. They studied vine rootstocks, dealt with vine cultivation systems and optimal planting density. Since Marco established the guidelines for the production, he had a decisive influence on the top level of the noble drops.

Following the example of great French wines, the first Grand Cru of Chianti Classico, the Vigneto Bellavista, was born on Castello di Ama. Other large plants followed - such as the cult wine L'Apparita, one of the best Merlot in the world. Sangiovese grapes are strictly selected for the production of Castello di Ama Chianti Classico. The British wine critic Stuart Pigott rates the wine as "authentic, Tuscan and refined". (superiore.de).

"Castello di Ama has firmly established itself among the densely populated elite of the Chianti wine scene and Lorenza Sebasti and Marco Pallanti have never ceased to deliver distinctive labels that can always give us the rare sense of authenticity."Gambero Rosso
