Translucent purple with a fresh, garnet red edge. The bouquet is a potpourri of dried fruits, dark chocolate and a delicate nougat note. Michele Chiarlo's Barbaresco Asili comes from vines that are around 30 years old and has a fragrant bouquet with bright and fresh aromas of wild cherry, blackcurrant, raspberry, blue flowers and crushed stone. This vintage shows a level of energy and vitality that makes it stand out from the crowd, and the wine is elegant and silky in texture. This is a particularly soft and polished expression of the famous Asili vineyard in Barbaresco. SUPERIORE.DE

The grapes come from the high-altitude MGA Il Bricco near Treiso. Each parcel is harvested separately, fermented in stainless steel with long maceration and then matured classically in large Slavonian and French oak barrels; a small proportion matures in barriques to refine the texture without masking the origin. The 2018 vintage was characterised by a long growing season with a sufficient water supply, a warm summer and a calm autumn. The late, selective harvest yielded pure grapes with a fine acidity line and polished tannins – a subtle, elegant style with early grace and good development prospects.

Ceretto's entry-level Barbaresco comes from different sites, mostly younger vines from Asili (35%) and the lower part of Bernadot (65%). Bright, elegant ruby red. It has full energy and vivacity and offers excellent persistence and remarkable balance. On the nose, sweet red cherry, mint, pine, liquorice and candied orange peel. Taut and ferruginous on the palate, very juicy, salty, stretches precisely across the tongue, with some pressure, considerable juicy-long finish. Currá is an archaic long-distance runner and presents itself very aristocratically with increasing bottle maturity or also good aeration even when young. Then it reveals dark berries and a fine chocolate note in the bouquet. In its style, it is edgy at first, but then at no point denies its greatness and harmony. Tobacco, plums, smoke and tobacco: with every glass, this exceptional wine reveals new facets and a firework of impressions. This is Nebbiolo from 65-year-old vines at the highest level! Vietti's Masseria is always delicate and refined, and this is all the more true for the current vintage.

Angelo Gaja's Sorì San Lorenzo is not simply a Barbaresco – it is an impulse. A Barbaresco that speaks softly in the glass and lingers for a long time – costa Russi 2017 opens with a brilliant, almost violet ruby colour that immediately hints at depth and elegance. Named after a historic property name in the cru parcel, this wine exemplifies Gaja's visionary combination of tradition and innovation. The bouquet is characterised by remarkable clarity and finesse: ripe cherry, redcurrant and delicate floral notes interweave with underlying spice, slightly smoky notes and an elegant layer of aniseed – a balance of precision and expression. The palate is initially velvety and supple, then unfolds with a fine structure, carried by vital acidity and finely balanced tannins. The wine remains focussed and long, with a mineral pulse and restrained power that respects its origins and keeps it alive.
