“Riff” Pinot Grigio delle Venezie DOC 2023 (BIO)
The RIFF project is a cooperation between Alois Lageder and local winegrowers in the Veneto region, where the grapes also thrive in selected vineyards. Since the 2018 vintage, the popular RIFF Pinot Grigio delle Venezie is not only certified organic, but has also been given a new look by Austrian artist Nanna Prieler. On the label, segments of stylised ammonites tell the story of the formation of the mountain landscape on which the vines for the Pinot Grigio RIFF now stand: From the ocean with its coral reefs to the unique terroir in which many fossils of former ocean dwellers can still be discovered today.
Bright light yellow with greenish shimmer. The aroma is finely fruity, floral-mineral with delicate notes of tropical fruits. On the palate, RIFF Pinot Gris is precise, lively and fresh, with a medium body and a harmonious finish. A perfect companion to light Mediterranean dishes or simply solo on the balcony or terrace. Delicate yellow colour with greenish reflections. Medium fruity, fresh and fragrant on the nose. Serious on the palate, then prancing and with good structure and a crisp acid wire, medium length. For us, it is one of the most harmonious summer wines of the year. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2023
Light golden yellow in colour. Fine, restrained nose of delicate white flowers and yellow-fruity nuances. Juicy and clear on the palate, round texture with harmonious play, medium length and very fresh and full of character with its delicate citrus note. SUPERIORE.DE
"To say it up front: This is one of the most linear and crystalline Pinot Gris that I have tasted here so far. Mineral and herbal bouquet, cool and taut rather than pleasing, delicate pear and herbal notes. In the mouth, it scores with crystalline juiciness, a fine melt and the typical spiciness with chalky hints. Certainly one of the best Pinot Gris in South Tyrol." Weinwisser

“del Pompiere” Pinot Grigio Friuli DOC 2022
Mario Schiopetto was born in 1930, he grew up in the family-owned Osteria ai Pompieri and had his first professional experiences as a fireman and later as a truck driver. In 1963, guided only by his taste and love of wine, he began to devote himself to wine production in his parents' farm and produced the first pure Tocai in 1965. The historic label at the time included the drawing of his fire engine, which he also used to deliver the wine to customers. With the 2019 vintage, the winery recalled these historical roots and resumed the cute drawing on part of its wine labels.
Attractive Pinot Gris from Friuli with green apple and orange blossom, a hint of wet stones and coriander on the nose. Pleasantly medium-bodied on the palate and wonderfully fresh on the final. Appealing and sophisticated. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Grigio Friuli Isonzo DOC 2022
Pinot Grigio has been at home in the Isonzo for 140 years now; with the necessary sensitivity, it develops a great deal of elegance and structure and can almost be called autochthonous here. It is not surprising that Alvaro Pecorari has taken this grape variety to his heart. A finesse-rich white with a floral bouquet and a fine peach note. On the palate, multi-layered and quite complex, the 8-month yeast storage gives it depth, length and a good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Grigio Turmhof Alto Adige DOC 2021
Pinot Grigio Turmhof is a rich Pinot Gris with a fresh scent of apple and yellow peach, pure and round in flavour, with strong fruit, delicate acidity, good length and always with the refinement of the house. SUPERIORE.DE
"Forward and inviting this beauty of a Pinot Grigio is loaded with aromas of ripe pears, melon, candied lemon zest and roasted nuts. The aging in wood rounds out the wine and the lees aging gives it a rich texture. Flavors of apples dominate the palate but there is more waiting in the wings, hibernating, asking you to wait just a little bit longer to see what can happen." Wine Enthusiast

“Punggl” Pinot Grigio Alto Adige DOC 2022
The vines for Pinot Grigio Punggl thrive on soils with a high clay content south of Margreid. Bright straw yellow in colour with a brilliant core. Spicy, fruity aromas with notes of nuts, honey and fresh flowers lend it elegance and charm. Full-bodied and mineral flavour with a juicy structure and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Pinot Grigio Punggl is savory with a mineral-tinged bouquet of flinty crushed stone and musky citrus. This washes across the palate, reverberating tension and salty to the core. Crunchy orchard fruits add to its savory character. The 2022 finishes with medium length and a saline sensation that keeps the taster looking back to the glass for more." Vinous

“Col Bajé" Pinot Grigio Friuli Colli Orientali DOC 2020
Pinot Gris with an intense straw-yellow colour with golden-copper reflections, which can be traced back to the historic Ramato process: Here, the mash remains in contact with the skins for approx. 10 hours. Broad, fruity bouquet with sweet notes of blackberry, pear and ripe apricot, delicate hints of almond blossom. Harmonious, dry and full-bodied on the palate. Medium-long, slightly mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Pinot Grigio Colbaje combines enriching notes of raw almond and brioche with crushed yellow apples and exotic spice. It’s silky-smooth with lush orchard fruits contrasted by a building minerality toward the close. This lingers long yet comes across as delicate and refined, leaving young peach and a hint of butterscotch. I’m typically not a fan of the richer styles of Pinot Grigio, but the Colbaje does a fantastic job of maintaining a wonderfully energetic persona." Vinous
"Lots of white pepper, smoke, cooked peach and orange on the nose and palate. Medium-bodied with a round, creamy texture and lots of flavour on the finish." James Suckling

Even though the grape variety Pinot Grigio is considered typically Italian, it actually comes from the French Burgundy, where it is called Pinot Gris. "Gris" or "grigio" means grey and comes from the fact that the ripe grapes do not take on a yellow-green colour, but a grey-blue to red-brown colour. Visually, Pinot Grigio, which is known in Germany as Grauburgunder, thus resembles a red grape variety, which is due to its close relationship with Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir, Spätburgunder). Thus, it is up to each winemaker to ferment the grapes into light, clear white wines or into copper-coloured rosés (Ramato).
The list of Italian wine regions where the high-yield Pinot Grigio is cultivated stretches from Lombardy to Sicily. Almost half of the total 17,300 hectares of vineyards are distributed among the three northern Italian regions of Veneto, Friuli and Trentino-Alto Adige. The lion's share is in Veneto, where the grape variety can be found in the extensive cultivation areas near the picturesque Lake Garda. Here, the grapes are fermented into an enticingly palatable, delicately fruity aperitif version with low acidity and low alcohol content.
But Pinot Grigio has a lot more to offer, which should arouse the curiosity of one or two wine lovers. It unfolds its aromatic potential in Trentino-South Tyrol, where stony vineyards lie directly on the foothills of the Dolomites and have to be laboriously worked by hand. Besides mineral notes and fruity aromas of pears, apples and white peaches, the exciting mountain wines inspire with a lively, crisp acidity.
On the border with Slovenia, the Friulians produce their rich and luscious Pinot Grigio wines from the best hillside sites in the appellations. The classics come from the hilliest vineyards (Collio) and mature for quite some time in large wooden or cement barrels. Here, at the latest, the spicy character, the aroma of sweet, ripe fruit and the incredible storage potential of the grape variety come to the fore. In this case, you can definitely impress your guests with an older Pinot Grigio, because the longer it can develop in the bottle, the more ethereal and creamy it tastes, without losing any of its freshness and vitality.
In the meantime, one increasingly comes across artisan Pinot Grigio, which convey a sense of the place of origin and the care taken by the winemaker. Thanks to its intense fullness of flavour, the grape variety is predominantly bottled as a single varietal instead of only being used for blending other wines. From the sparkling wine for every day, to wines with a noticeable texture and more intense tertiary aromas, there is certainly something for every wine lover, especially as the young, juicy Pinot Grigio is ideal for risotto creations, while the richer variety may be served quietly with hearty meat and fish dishes.
Because we are always looking for first-class products, there is no trace of uninteresting mass-produced wines in our range.
