    Legends are always entwined around great old wineries in Italy. This also applies to the Dievole winery, which was founded in 1090 ("Dio vuole - God Wills“). Allegedly two friends of Abbate Rolando, the head of the monastery, leased the land for the cultivation of grapes and paid three loaves of bread, one capon and six silver coins per year.

    The Azienda Agricola Dievole, situated twelve kilometres northeast of Siena, near Castelnuovo Berardenga in the picturesque village of Vagliagli at up to 450 metres above sea level in the hills of the Chianti Classico region, has been regularly awarded prizes for its excellent wines by international experts for many years. Since 2013, the Dievole estate has belonged to billionaire Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, who already owns several estates in Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, Bordeaux and California. In Italy he is also involved in Montalcino and the Maremma.

    The well-known Chianti Classico vineyard has been given a new management and is being systematically converted to organic cultivation. The vintage 2017 will be the first certified organic vintage. Alberto Antonini was engaged for the wine production. The renowned oenologist and wine consultant has already worked for several well-known wineries, in Italy for Antinori and Frescobaldi as well as for wineries in the USA and South America. This also applies to Bulgheronis Bodeka Garzón in Uruguay.

    The total area of over 500 hectares of land includes 16 vineyards, each of which is managed by its own team. By 2020, 150 hectares of wine should be in production. The rest are woods and 10% olive groves. In recent years the cellar technology has also been renewed. New, conical cement tanks are used as fermentation tanks, which also found their way back into Bordeaux in famous chateaux such as Cheval Blanc. Large wooden barrels are mainly used for the finishing.

    Today the wine production at Dievole ranges from white and red IGT wines to Chianti Classico DOCG and Riserva to products such as Vin Santo, Grappa and olive oil. Already in the 1980s the main building, a Renaissance villa, had been renovated and transformed into a beautiful hotel and wine resort. In the meantime, the other former palazzi and farmhouses have also been renovated for overnight stays and events. SUPERIORE.DE
