      Chianti Classico DOCG 2017 (BIO)

Very fine Chianti Classico, rich in finesse - now also in organic quality - with intense aromas of berries, red fruits and violets. Refined taste, harmonious and spicy, the light tannins are of velvety softness. This wine is pure drinking pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby with a delicate brightening edge. The nose smells of juicy cherries, orange peels and peaches. On the palate red fruity and accentuated juicy, drinkable, in the finish minimal drying." Falstaff

"The front label of this wine records the winery's founding date as 1090. I paused when I saw it. That is indeed impressive. Dievole has existed for half of our entire civilization since the birth of Christ. The 2017 Chianti Classico is an elegantly tempered wine with cleanly delineated aromas of wild cherry, rose and potting soil. There are very distant notes of spice, but they are expertly woven into the greater mid-weight fiber of the wine. There is a touch of vintage ripeness in the form of black olive. The wine would pair nicely with a risotto of leeks and mushrooms with truffle oil. This is one of Italy's ultimate value wines." Robert Parker

"Pretty aromas of fruit tea, flowers and cedar, together with cherries. Medium body, firm, silky tannins and a flavorful finish. Tangy acidity" James Suckling

“Novecento” Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2016

Ruby red with violet reflections in the glass, the lively aroma complex shows above all berries, before the compact, nicely balanced and fleshy taste plays out its juicy tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"A silky, refined red with crushed-berry, cherry and mineral character. Racy and precise with a lovely combination of fine tannins and bright acidity. Drink now and enjoy." James Suckling

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Riserva Novecento takes the intensity and the level of sophistication up an important step if you have just tasted the entry-level Chianti Classico immediately before this wine (as I did). This wine is brooding and multifaceted with layers of dark fruit, spice, tar and smoke. There is a very deep quality here too that reminds me of earth or crushed black rocks. This beautiful vintage offers great texture that is velvety and rich without ever feeling heavy or slow. The finish is very long and crisp. It would be great with braised meats." Robert Parker

"The 2014 Chianti Classico Riserva Novecento is a rich and nicely concentrated wine that shows substantial density without feeling heavy. In fact, the wine is mid-weight in essence, although it offers enough concentration and richness to keep the palate satiated and fulfilled. The finish is elegant and silky." Robert Parker

    About the winemakers
    Dievole
    Tuscany | Chianti
    Dievole

Legends are always entwined around great old wineries in Italy. This also applies to the Dievole winery, which was founded in 1090 ("Dio vuole - God Wills“). Allegedly two friends of Abbate Rolando, the head of the monastery, leased the land for the cultivation of grapes and paid three loaves of bread, one capon and six silver coins per year.

The Azienda Agricola Dievole, situated twelve kilometres northeast of Siena, near Castelnuovo Berardenga in the picturesque village of Vagliagli at up to 450 metres above sea level in the hills of the Chianti Classico region, has been regularly awarded prizes for its excellent wines by international experts for many years. Since 2013, the Dievole estate has belonged to billionaire Alejandro Pedro Bulgheroni, who already owns several estates in Argentina, Uruguay, Australia, Bordeaux and California. In Italy he is also involved in Montalcino and the Maremma.

The well-known Chianti Classico vineyard has been given a new management and is being systematically converted to organic cultivation. The vintage 2017 will be the first certified organic vintage. Alberto Antonini was engaged for the wine production. The renowned oenologist and wine consultant has already worked for several well-known wineries, in Italy for Antinori and Frescobaldi as well as for wineries in the USA and South America. This also applies to Bulgheronis Bodeka Garzón in Uruguay.

The total area of over 500 hectares of land includes 16 vineyards, each of which is managed by its own team. By 2020, 150 hectares of wine should be in production. The rest are woods and 10% olive groves. In recent years the cellar technology has also been renewed. New, conical cement tanks are used as fermentation tanks, which also found their way back into Bordeaux in famous chateaux such as Cheval Blanc. Large wooden barrels are mainly used for the finishing.

Today the wine production at Dievole ranges from white and red IGT wines to Chianti Classico DOCG and Riserva to products such as Vin Santo, Grappa and olive oil. Already in the 1980s the main building, a Renaissance villa, had been renovated and transformed into a beautiful hotel and wine resort. In the meantime, the other former palazzi and farmhouses have also been renovated for overnight stays and events. SUPERIORE.DE
