“Limizzani” Vermentino di Gallura DOCG 2020
Compared to Branu, Limizzani is a little lighter and more summery, but also shows the classic Gallura character from the north-east of Sardinia. Straw yellow with light greenish reflections, fresh and balanced on the nose with a fine herbal note. Finely spicy and yellow-fruity on the palate, with good polish and a nice acid wire, interesting final with traces of grapefruit and bitter almond. SUPERIORE.DE
"Spicy, fresh and floral, the 2020 Vermentino di Gallura Limizzani lifts up effortlessly from the glass. This perfumed effort displays sour melon, ginger and honeysuckle. It's silky and pliant, with a noticeable inner sweetness contrasted by salty minerals and tart orchard fruits. The cheeks pucker with residual tension as this tapers off fresh to a hint of tropical citrus." Vinous

“Naracu” Cannonau di Sardegna DOC 2019
Bright ruby red sarde with a seductive bouquet of red fruits, sweet spices and violets. Juicy, fresh and delicately spicy on the palate, a slightly salty mineral note underpins the lightness and elegance. The medium-long finish is very harmonious and well balanced. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Cannonau di Sardegna Naracu is incredibly pretty and perfumed, aromas of crushed stone giving way to violet pastille, blueberries and a dusting of confectioner's spice. It's silky and round, leading off with depths of ripe blackberry fruit, yet gaining in tension as a coating of minerals and fine tannin collects toward the close. This tapers off youthfully structured with echoes of licorice and lavender lingering long. The Naracu is so pretty and an excellent value as well." Vinous

Vigne Surrau is a young winery with respect for tradition. Which sounds a little confusing, but it says it all. On the one hand the modern, architecturally remarkable cellar buildings, which blend harmoniously into the landscape, on the other hand the traditional grape varieties and the preservation of terroir and origin. In the north-eastern part of Sardinia, near Porto Cervo, high above the popular bays of the Costa Smeralda, the granite formations of the Gallura formed a bizarre landscape. Tough to work with, but extremely mineral. The heat of the day is opposed by the steady 'pulito vento maestrale' – the wind, which aerates the vineyards with a cooling sea breeze – and thus creates a unique micro-climate zone, which with its strong temperature differences between day and night makes this wonderful fruit in the grapes possible.
The Demuro brothers recognised the potential of this unique landscape and founded the winery in 2004. The more than 50 hectares of vineyards are crossed by two rivers, which provide additional cooling and ventilation. Traditionally, they have used classic varieties that have been native to Sardinia for centuries and are therefore considered autochthonous, first and foremost the white Vermentino di Gallura, a variety of Vermentino that feels particularly at home in coastal regions. This grape variety, grown from old vines, is cultivated here in three versions, which have repeatedly been awarded prizes in the most important Italian guides. Tre Bicchieri at Gambero Rosso, Grande Vino at Slow Food and the coveted crown at Vinibuoni d'Italia.
The red wines also come from old grape varieties such as Cannonau di Sardegna, Carignano and Muristello, also called Bovale Sardo. They are aged as pure varieties or filled as cuvée. The grapes are only harvested at night when the temperatures are cool enough. After strict selection, the type of fermentation and storage used is decided. Steel tanks, new cement tanks, French oak barriques or large Slavonian wooden barrels. The traditional varieties are available in all modern and classical cultivation methods, so Vigne Surrau more than lives up to its credo. SUPERIORE.DE
