“Kepos” Costa Toscana IGT 2020 (BIO)
Kepos 2020 will be the last vintage of this wine, after which its grapes will go to varietal wines and a new project, hence the label's meaningful addition of "Last Call".
This unique symbiosis of three Mediterranean grape varieties is the pure expression of Ampeleia: a well-structured, fruity wine that, as a classic second wine, already comes very close to its "big brother" Ampeleia with its refinement and linearity. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2020 Kepos is a unique blend of Alicante Nero, Mourvèdre and Carignano. It offers plenty of dark fruit character intermingled with lavender, rose petal and dried herbs. I find Kepos a bit less distinctive than the other wines in the range, most of which are single-variety wines, but it is nevertheless an engaging and very pretty wine." Vinous
"Fragrant nose of violets, orange peel, raspberries, green peppercorns, clay and thyme. Medium-bodied with precise, tight tannins and lively acidity. Lean and fresh, but surprisingly firm and structured." James Suckling

Alicante Nero Costa Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Bright ruby, appealing bouquet of blackberry and spices. On the palate a clear structure, lots of fruit, present tannins and a well-defined acidity. A pure and beautiful wine. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Alicante Nero is a gorgeous, precise wine. Bright red-toned fruit, mint, orange peel, spice and sweet pipe tobacco are very nicely delineated. This deceptively light-bodied red packs plenty of punch." Vinous
"This is a beautiful wine that is wonderfully perfumed and floral. The Ampeleia 2021 Alicante Nero (also known as Grenache) shows wild roses, exotic spices, white pepper and dried lavender buds. The wine offers excitement and grace with a nice, powerful finish. This is a red wine to enthusiastically recommend, especially in this price range." Wine Advocate
"A juicy red with lots of white pepper, wild berries, frozen raspberries, herbs and stones on the nose that transitions into a medium body with fine-grained tannins. Fresh and lively with bright acidity. It is juicy with a mineral note on the precise finish." James Suckling

Cabernet Franc Costa Toscana IGT 2021 (BIO)
Juicy, expressive red with a lot of varietal typicity. Fine floral notes, crunchy red stone fruits on the palate, the gripping tannin gives a lot of backbone, sweet spice and fruit flavours in the final. Delicious and of fabulous purity. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Ampeleia 2021 Cabernet Franc shows those special wine aromas that come from fermentation and skin contact. They give this wine an honest and varietal personality. The fruit is in the foreground and there are no extra frills. Dark cherry is followed by potting soil and tobacco leaves." Wine Advocate
"The 2021 Cabernet Franc is a pretty, fruity red done in a style that emphasizes savoriness, thanks to the generous use of stems. This mid-weight, fragrant Franc is more Loire Valley than Maremma. Dark cherry, game, rose petals and dried herbs linger on the bright finish. Give it a good bit of air to open." Vinous

“Ampeleia” Costa Toscana IGT 2019 (BIO)
Ampeleia is the winery's top wine and, since the 2015 vintage, has been vinified exclusively from Cabernet Franc from different plots planted at a cool altitude of 500 to 600 metres above sea level. A wine of personality and character, its inner elegance and fruitiness make it a fascinating interpretation of the new and different Maremma. SUPERIORE.DE
"A juicy and nicely stemmy cabernet franc with plenty of wild berries, fresh herbs, Mezcal and white pepper funk. Generous and succulent on the palate with a medium body and fresh acidity and tannins. All delivered in a very drinkable, expressive mode." James Suckling
"The 2019 Ampeleia is deep, striking and very expressive. In 2019, the Ampeleia seems to offer a bit more volume and brooding intensity than in most years. Black cherry, mocha, dried herbs and espresso give it remarkable sepia-toned intensity. This powerful Franc is a winner. I suggest aerating the 2019 and all these wines a bit, as oxygen is very beneficial." Vinous

“Empatia” Merlot Costa Toscana IGT 2017 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC
This Merlot is so strictly limited that it is not even on the official price list of the winery. The grapes for this exceptional Merlot, which is exclusively bottled in only a few magnum bottles, come from vines of the winery that are more than 30 years old. Originally vinified only for our own consumption, we managed to obtain some bottles for our customers.
On the nose, fresh notes of crisp red fruits, along with balsamic notes that recall the vegetation of this upper part of Maremma. The body is determinant, enveloping, rich and at the same time boundlessly elegant. This Merlot impresses with its precise response. The refreshing acidity gives it the tools for a long life. Happy the one who can call a bottle of it his own. SUPERIORE.DE
"Tasted from magnum, the 2017 Empatia is a pure expression of organic Merlot from a site that sits in the crater of an ancient volcano inside a UNESCO park recognized for its unique geology. Only 250 magnums were made. This is a punchy, and at times bitter, expression with a reductive bouquet that needs extra time to open. Once it does, the wine reveals dark fruit, cassis and wild berry, with cola, rosemary and wild mint at the back. This wine is elegant and fine, showing an unexpected side of the Merlot grape." The grapes for this exceptional Merlot, bottled exclusively in only a few magnum bottles, come from vines of the winery that are over 30 years old. Actually vinified only for our own consumption and good friends, we managed to obtain a few bottles for our customers.
On the nose, fresh notes of crisp red fruits, along with balsamic notes reminiscent of the vegetation of this upper part of the Maremma. The body is decisive, enveloping, rich and at the same time boundlessly elegant. This Merlot impresses with its precise response. The refreshing acidity gives it the tools for a long life. Happy the one who can call a bottle of it his own. SUPERIORE.DE
"This wine is only released in magnum bottles and I tasted number 66 of only 246 bottles produced. The organic and biodynamic Ampeleia 2018 Merlot Empatia shows a beautiful richness of fruit and concentration, certainly with weight but without heaviness. The wine remains bright and buoyant thanks to black cherry, smoked tobacco and spice. There are also notes of liquorice, green olives and Mediterranean herbs. The vines are rooted in volcanic soils from an ancient crater." Wine Advocate
"Unique aromas of blackberries, lavender, sage, coriander and ink. Complex on the nose. Full-bodied with creamy tannins and beautiful fruit density. The length and polish of this wine are, as always, very impressive. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Only available in the magnum bottle. Drinkable now, but best from 2025." James Suckling
"The 2018 Empatia is 100% Merlot bottled only in magnum. A wine of presence and textural intensity, the 2018 dazzles right out of the gate. Black cherry, cloves, leather, licorice and incense meld together in this deep, sumptuous wine. This is impressive." Vinous

The Ampeleia project began in 2002 as a dream shared by three friends. The declared goal of the triumvirate was to build a unique wine and farming project in an extraordinary place where biodiversity and terroir form the basis for the production of excellent wines.
Elisabetta Foradori is considered by many to be the uncrowned Italian wine queen. The highly respected winemaker from Trentino and her South Tyrolean friends, the entrepreneurs Thomas Widmann and Giovanni Podini, dreamed of a wine like velvet and silk, a noble drop of radiant elegance and finesse. They therefore started a project and called it Ampeleia (Greek ampelos = the vine). In 2002, the three founders acquired the vineyard that suited their ideas in the picturesque mountain village of Roccatederighi in the hinterland of the Maremma. The previous Swiss owners had run the estate with great passion since the 1960s, when French grape varieties such as Cabernet Franc and Merlot entered the region. Under the name Fattoria di Meleta, the estate already had a good reputation in the eighties – at that time, the Maremma was not yet very well known as a wine-growing region.
Step by step, the new owners around star winemaker Elisabetta Foradori bought more land. Since the beginning, Marco Tait has been responsible for the vineyards of Ampeleia. The winemaker, supported by a hand-picked team, has been guiding the fortunes of Ampeleia for more than two decades with sovereignty and great success.
Ampeleia's vineyards and cultivation system are unique in many ways. The land lies in the middle of the Tuscan Mining UNESCO Geopark, a protected area of international geological importance, and has a wide variety of soil profiles, e.g. clay, limestone, granite, galestro, slate and sand. In the vineyards of Ampeleia di Sotto, Ampeleia di Mezzo and Ampeleia di Sopra, which are relatively far apart from each other and reach different altitudes between 200 and 600 metres, seven grape varieties are cultivated today, according to their suitability, with Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Sangiovese, Grenache, Carignano, Mourvèdre and Alicante Bouschet. The grape varieties must be cultivated with particular care and flexibility because of the different territorial characteristics of the plots. The Ampeleia di Sopra growing zone, which is predominantly planted with Cabernet Franc, has been cultivated biodynamically since 2009. In the foreseeable future, the other vineyards will also be completely converted to the most ecologically sustainable method of cultivation.
The two estate owners, Foradori and Podini, and winemaker Tait – Thomas Widmann left the joint venture in 2009 because of a commitment to politics – stand for wines in a clearly defined style. The fruity drops bear elegant rather than opulent features and are pleasant to drink. The top of the five-product range is an extremely high-quality blend of Cabernet Franc, Sangiovese and four other grape varieties, which bears the name of the young wine house.
Nature lovers are also recommended to visit the winery. Since the mountain village of Roccatederighi is situated on a rocky massif, there is a magnificent panoramic view from the very top, ranging from high mountains with chestnut forests to grain fields and olive groves on the plain. SUPERIORE.DE
"The collaborative project is fueled by an uncompromising quest for quality, aiming for a personal, innovative style, but also trying to incorporate the terroir as much as possible."Gambero Rosso
