Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio Bianco DOC 2022
A wine with a prestigious name and a pretty legend: God wept when he found a corner of heaven stolen by Lucifer, and there, where his tears fell, grew the Lacryma Christi vine. The extraordinary power of the area around Vesuvius, where the lava fights in the volcanic rock, results in this magnificent wine.
Mastroberardino's Lacryma Christi del Vesuvio is a varietal Coda di Volpe that flirts with sweet melon and pear, complemented by notes of incense and exotic spices. A pure and soothing expression, it is also very tasty, with mineral orchard fruit that fades into floral notes towards the end. A salty note runs through the final as it ends fresh and clean. Delicate rosé, aromatic vinous bouquet with notes of roses, violets and undergrowth. Fresh on the palate with fine acidity, soft and a slightly salty note. An Aglianico Rosato that does not conceal its volcanic origin and that you will not soon forget. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Rosato Lacrimarosa blossoms in the glass with a smoky blend of crushed rocks, ginger and young peach. This is round and cooling on the palate, with mineral-laced orchard fruits and pretty inner florals. The 2022 finishes with medium length and a salty flourish that calls the taster back to the glass." Vinous

“Novaserra” Greco di Tufo DOCG 2022
Generous bouquet of yellow peaches and aniseed. Ripe, yet incredibly fresh fruit on the palate, very harmonious and varied. The long final reveals a mineral note as well as a delicate hint of caramel, a very nice interpretation of a Greco di Tufo. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Greco di Tufo NovaSerra reveals a very precise and linear personality with crushed stone, white melon and green apple. The growing season was very hot, and fruit selection was key to obtaining quality here and elsewhere in the region. NovaSerra also shows some sweet flower and a hint of jasmine." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of matchsticks and pumice with a hint of white pepper. Almonds, sliced apples and limes. Medium body, creamy texture and a soft, fresh finish. You can really taste the volcanic soil." James Suckling

Radici Fiano di Avellino DOCG 2022
Mastroberardino is particularly focussed on the old Fiano grape variety. It was already cultivated by the Romans, who called it Vitis apiana because of its special attraction to bees (apis). It produces a straw-coloured, wonderfully aromatic wine with a spicy honey and nutty bouquet. The characteristic flavour is very harmonious. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2022 Fiano di Avellino Radici shows tropical fruit, ripe peach, melon and other hot-vintage aromas. There is a pretty tightness to the mouthfeel that follows with the slightly reductive style preferred with a wine like this that is aged in stainless steel only. It closes with a lean-bodied texture and good freshness." Wine Advocate

“Neroametà" Aglianico Bianco Campania IGT 2019
Neroametà is a white vinified Aglianico that represents an ancient family project designed to highlight the great versatility of this noble and ancient grape variety. It pays homage to the varietal origin of the black Aglianico grape, which presents itself with convincing elegance when vinified white without any contact with the skins, and a tribute to the territorial and cultural origins of Campania.
Light straw yellow with grey reflections. Elegant bouquet characterised by rich and complex notes of flowers, lily of the valley and citrus fruits, well blended with delicate fruit nuances and mineral hints. Fresh, spicy and decisive on the palate, with an intense mineral aftertaste. SUPERIORE.DE
"Mixed fresh fruit and floral notes here with an edge of celery. Medium- to full-bodied with a focused, driven and quite saline palate. Some might find the finish a little aggressive, but I like the vibrant character that pervades this wine." James Suckling

“More Maiorum” Fiano di Avellino DOCG 2017
A hearty, spicy Fiano di Avellino that impresses with its fruitiness and aromas of sausage, bacon and smoke. Complex on the palate of tropical fruits, candy and minerals, full-bodied long. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2017 Bianco More Maiorum is very tasty in the glass, combining musk, dried apricots, yellow flowers, ginger and crushed rock. The palate is almost salty, showing a crisp purity of tart fruit and mineral tones, with an almost crisp feel towards the finish. The finish is marked by bitter almonds and lemon peel and ends with admirable length, but dry and grippy." Vinous
"This wine starts with a lovely lemon, cedar peel and wild onion character on the nose, mixed with a touch of oak. The palate is medium to full-bodied with bright citrus fruit that lingers until the end. It leaves a long aftertaste of lemon peel, dry minerals and caramel." James Suckling
"Here is a beautifully matured blend of equal parts Fiano and Greco. The 2017 Irpinia Bianco More Maiorum from the historic Mastroberardino estate shows a rich, mid-weight style with layers of beeswax, stone fruit, thick-skinned cedro lemon and underripe apricot. A nice hint of petrol and gravel adds to the wine's complexity and highlights the smooth evolution of this impressive five-year-old white." Wine Advocate

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2017
Taurasi Radici 2017 is a dark and savoury wine with densely stacked aromas of black fruit, tar, liquorice and bonfire ash. This is a Taurasi between tenor and bass from a warm and sunny vintage, characterised by concentrated and rich flavours. Despite the obvious power you get here, it remains concentrated and sharp in a beautiful way. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Mastroberardino 2017 Taurasi Riserva Radici shows evolved fruit notes and abundant oak toast with campfire ash, cooked plum, exotic spice and barbecue. This was a challenging vintage in southern Italy with very hot and dry growing conditions that made for difficult fruit selection. You sense that ripeness here thanks to the wine's rather abundant personality and its cooked fruit flavors." Wine Advocate
"Ripe fruit and medicinal herbs on the nose continue on the palate, with crushed black raspberries and cassis, Earl Grey tea leaves and hints of mocha and tarry smoke. Fresh and well-knit, with chalky, plastic tannins and a finish that reflects the fruit, herbs and mineral character." Wine Spectator
"Already complex on the nose with blue and black fruits as well as notes of nori, goudron and spices such as cinnamon and mace. Full-bodied with intense, almost steely fruit and mineral flavours and firm, medium-grained tannins. The quality is obvious here. It's still a little rough around the edges at the moment and needs a few years to settle down and develop in all directions. Try it from 2023 onwards." James Suckling
"The 2017 Taurasi Radici is a force to be reckoned with as it bursts from the glass with masses of raspberry, redcurrant and plum, complemented by an array of autumnal spices and crushed violets. Its textural depth and density is impressive, silky, almost creamy, but perfectly contrasted by a core of mineral black fruits and vibrant acids, while a hint of rose and clove builds towards the finish. The 2017 is persistent and structured, but also incredibly fresh, with fine tannins framing the smoky, mineral tones and lingering notes of blackberry and olive. This is a wonderful interpretation of Radici that should offer harvesta slightly earlier drinking window than normally expected. However, we are talking about a Taurasi here, and this wine has a very bright future ahead of it." Vinous

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2018
A very special wine made from overripe and strictly selected Aglianico grapes that thrive in Mastroberardino's south-facing vineyards. The Taurasi is aged in oak barrels for two years and rests in the bottle for one year. A wine with a fascinating personality, power and an extremely high Storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2018 Taurasi Radici is like pushing through an ash stone to find a treasure chest of exotic spices, incense and cinnamon blackcurrant. It is a soft and generous expression of Radici, with a depth of tart black fruits balanced by dark chocolate and acidic citrus notes. It finishes with tremendous length, but without the typical harsh tannins associated with Aglianico in its youth, leaving inner earth and herbal notes. The 2018 finishes on a salty note. This Radici is a much stronger expression of Radici." Vinous
"Bright ruby red with a slightly lightening rim. In the nose after ripe heart cherries and dark forest berries, in the reverberation after violets, leather and undergrowth, very complex. Fresh and salty on the palate, with fine-grained and well-integrated tannin, lots of ripe fruit, long final, a long runner." Falstaff
"The Mastroberardino 2018 Taurasi Radici, with its distinctive black label, offers impressive complexity with a long sequence of aromas that include dried blackberries, cherry liqueur, tarry smoke, campfire ash, sweet baking spices and cinnamon. Blackberries, rosemary twigs and forest floor also characterise the bouquet. The whole is rounded off by soft tobacco. This wine shows powerful fruit and equally balanced oak spice. The tannins are well integrated and the Radici is long lasting." Wine Advocate

“Stilèma” Fiano di Avellino Riserva DOCG 2018
"The Stilèma project was born as a testimony of Antonio Mastroberardino's love for his land, his vines and his wines, for their original character." Piero Mastroberardino
The project aims to highlight the link between the vines, the wines and their territorial origins. In this way, the Mastroberardino family wants to recreate the style of winemaking of the autochthonous grape varieties of Irpinia (Greco, Fiano and Aglianico) that took place between the end of the 1950s and the beginning of the 1970s of the twentieth century for the Taurasi and between the years 1970 and 1980 for the two white wines from Irpinia. It is the unmistakable style (the stilèma) of a family that has interpreted the natural heritage of its territory over generations and today impressively highlights the genuine character of the terroir, which by no means can be expressed by high concentration and intensity alone.
Pale straw yellow with light green reflections. The 24 months of yeast ageing of this exceptional Fiano create a fascinating balance and complexity of the aroma profile with classic hints of flint, fine saltiness, the scent of fresh almonds, cedar wood and wild herbs. The taste is lively with a pronounced mineral note, accompanied by an inspiring freshness that gives it great drinkability and finesse. The precise and very long finish is also extremely convincing. SUPERIORE.DE
"Lean and mineral, with a pure fruit bundle of apricot and white cherry and base notes of stone and salt, with accents of white flowers, pink grapefruit pith, liquorice and smoked almond. Supple and well-integrated, with a delicious, lingering finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Stilèma opens slowly with notes of dried flowers and crushed stones that are replaced by apricots and ginger. It is silky yet supple, showing its minerality up front accompanied by tart fruit. The final is structured and long, colouring the palate with youthful concentration as notes of young peach and raw almond fade away. The 2018 is a powerful interpretation of Fiano Stilèma. Give it some time to relax." Vinous
"Slightly reticent nose, with suggestions of lemon flowers and dry minerals. Opens up on the silky, full-bodied palate to offer lovely fresh lemon and creamy mineral flavors that are driven by subtle acidity through the long finish. This is a noble, refined fiano that’s drinking so well now." James Suckling
"The Mastroberardino 2018 Fiano di Avellino Riserva Stiléma has been upgraded to Riserva and is creamy and smooth. The wine shows a medium fruit weight with notes of fruit trees and preserved lemons, enhanced by light oak spice and vanilla. Even more than the Greco Riserva Stiléma, which I also tasted, this Fiano seems more modern or "New World" in personality." Wine Advocate

Stilèma Greco di Tufo Riserva is a blend of grapes from the Montefusco, Tufo and Petruro Irpino vineyards. During the cellar processes, special attention was paid to the malolactic fermentation and the ageing phase, which give the wine density and consistency. Pale straw yellow with greenish reflections. On the nose, notes of ripe fruit, lychee and grapefruit, yellow flowers, dried fruit and figs. Powerful but agile taste with a pronounced salty note, accompanied by a surprising freshness that gives it drinkability and finesse. It closes with a subtle and long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich straw yellow with greenish reflections. In the nose of tropical fruits, lychee and grapefruit, in the aftertaste iodine, flint and slightly herbal, very complex. On the palate filigree, very salty and fresh, drinky, with draught, long and mineral final." Falstaff
"The 2018 Greco di Tufo Riserva Stilèma is rich and sweet-smelling, captivating with a tropical blend of green melon and exotic flowers. On the palate, it flows with a medium-heavy texture that feels silky and shows mineral fruit and savoury spices. The 2018 finishes with admirable depth and concentration, ending with a saline feel and notes of lime and liquid stones. While enjoyable, this wine is still very young and needs further ageing to reveal its hidden charms." Vinous
"Peachy piney notes at the start, evolving into more pronounced notes of fresh white grapes, yellow peaches and minerals on the palate. Medium to full-bodied, bright and concentrated. An interesting and refined Greco." James Suckling
"Here is a new wine from Mastroberardino, and what a charming beauty it is. The 2018 Greco di Tufo Riserva Stiléma takes advantage of the new "Riserva" status and offers us a glimpse into the age-worthiness of Greco. It is a white wine with a soft texture and medium-weight approach. The bouquet shows a filigree of lemon curd, pastry cream, saffron and wet stone." Wine Advocate

“Naturalis Historia” Taurasi DOCG 2015
The grapes for the rare Naturalis Historia come from a 50-year-old vineyard at an altitude of 400 metres with deep, sandy soils of volcanic origin in Mirabella. Deep, sparkling dark red. On the nose red currant, sweet spices and aromas of dark plums and red cherries. Perfectly structured in the mouth with well-dosed pressure, yet with a full body that is never broad, but fresh, supple and very agile, leading to a harmonious, long-lasting final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Always a landmark on the panorama of Campania reds, the Mastroberardino 2015 Taurasi Naturalis Historia delivers depth and generous density with dark fruit, dried blackberry, spice and campfire ash. Indeed, the oak spice and the natural mineral nuances of this wine intersect to reveal a smoky, mahogany-like ensemble of aromas. This vintage also delivers some tart cherry aromas backed by black olive and grilled rosemary. You feel the tart bitterness of the fruit tannins. Keep this wine in your cellar for a few more years." Radici Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2017
Bright, powerful ruby colour, aromas of cherry, redcurrant, cocoa and tar. Juicy, spicy and bright, with firm acidity and taut tannins that give it definition and lift to the flavours. Very fresh and precise, persistent and smooth. It has outstanding potential. If you taste the decades-old wines from Mastroberardino (dating back to 1928), it becomes clear: these wines are monumental, immortal or at least for eternity. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby red with a slightly brightening rim. Ripe blackberries and rich plums on the nose, with a subtle hint of dark chocolate, coffee grounds, liquorice and a touch of leather in the background. Powerful but well-integrated tannins on the palate, with plenty of ripe fruit and a long final." Falstaff
"Complex and deep character with ripe blackberries, raisins, dried roses, dark chocolate, toasted walnuts, dark licorice and wild mushrooms with a little bit of tar. Full-bodied, layered and compact with a broad and velvety tannin structure that lasts long on the palate. Classy, reserved style with hits of sweet tobacco at the end. Needs three to four years to completely come together." James Suckling
"An essential part of peninsular winemaking history, a Taurasi that is impossible not to define as iconic. Cherries in spirit and laurel on the nose, touches of eucalyptus, zest of dogwood and undergrowth, salinity, density and compactness on the drink, with a citrusy return." Luca Gardini

“Naturalis Historia” Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2016
The grapes for the rare Naturalis Historia come from a 50-year-old vineyard located 400 metres above sea level with deep, sandy soils of volcanic origin in Mirabella. Deep, sparkling dark red colour. Redcurrant, sweet spices and aromas of dark plums and red cherries on the nose. Perfectly structured on the palate with well-balanced pressure and a full body that is never broad, but fresh, supple and very agile, leading to a harmonious, long-lasting final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark, rich ruby red colour. On the nose with a noble use of wood, ripe, dark berry fruit, undergrowth, some dates, with an aftertaste of lightly roasted malt. On the palate with a fruit-accentuated entry, then balanced and very clear, with wonderful juiciness, spans a wide arc, present tannin, with pressure, long juicy return, wonderful Aglianico!" Falstaff
"Tobacco and ash give way to shaved cedar, cinnamon sticks and dried blueberries as the 2016 Taurasi Riserva Naturalis Historia blossoms. It is texturally deep and velvety, with a sweet and sour interplay of red and black fruits elevated by vibrant acidity and a black pepper tinge toward the close. The 2016 finishes long and potent, leaving fine-grained tannins that gently tug at the palate as inner earth ones and nuances of blood orange linger on and on. The 2016 is a fabulous vintage for Naturalis Historia that should enjoy a long and open drinking window." Vinous
"Now showing Riserva status, the Mastroberardino 2016 Taurasi Riserva Naturalis Historia is a beautifully elegant wine that is slightly dialed back in terms of intensity, making for very pleasurable and elegant results. The wine initially shows dark fruit and dried cherry, but the bouquet pivots to sweet oak, tobacco, barbecue smoke and campfire ash. Naturalis Historia is quite refined and nuanced, and it offers a very carefully polished and long finish. This is a vintage worthy of your cellar collection." Wine Advocate
"A wide spectrum of aromas here, ranging from crushed blackcurrants and raisins to toasted nuts, roasting herbs and black licorice. Full-bodied with fine-grained fruit and oak tannins that expand together with the fruit through the long, long finish. Loads going on here, but it’s all in balance and never heavy. Super aglianico that’s delicious to drink even now, but will age beautifully." James Suckling

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC

“Stilèma” Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2016
Stilèma Taurasi is an austere and complex wine with excellent drinkability and great ageing potential. A modern interpretation of the style of the great Taurasi from the 1950s and 1960s. Stilèma Taurasi is the result of a compositional work that has brought together different but synergistic micro-territorial stories, creating a unique and complex expressiveness. Pietradefusi, Montemarano, Paternopoli and Mirabella Eclano are the different sites of the family from which the grapes come, distinguished by their altitude, microclimate and soils.
Soft ruby red with delicate reflections and luminous transparency. The nose offers complex aromas, fruity and floral nuances in harmony with spicy hints, further on cherry, plum, blackberry, caramel, tobacco, vanilla, leather and cloves. Fresh, tasty, agile on the palate, with a silky tannin structure that harmonises well with all the other components. Tart and complex, with great drinkability and convincing length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Intense, sparkling ruby garnet. Opens on the nose with notes of pomegranate, blood orange, tobacco and cranberries. Very polished in attack and course, nice play, fine-meshed tannin, but overall seems a bit frothy, very far from the impetuous power of a Taurasi." Falstaff
"Fresh and elegant, this well-meshed red layers taut, fine tannins with a ripe core of cherry and cranberry puree, a streak of smoke-tinged minerality and accents of tea leaves and woodsy spices that echo on the finish." Wine Spectator
"The Taurasi Riserva Stilèma 2016 is a deeply sensual wine. Swirl the glass to discover the depths of sour cherry and red plum, accompanied by hints of spice cake and a pinch of clove. It is seamlessly silky and smooth, with a textural wave of polished blackberries and currants, underlined by salty minerals. The wine's density is balanced by vibrant acidity, while the chiselled tannins slowly assert themselves. The 2016 finishes with decent length and spicy herbal and acidic citrus nuances. In a very short time, the Taurasi Riserva Stilèma has established itself as one of the top wines in Mastroberardino's portfolio." Vinous
"This is a very refined expression of Aglianico with a clear red fruit character. With air, additional notes of pressed flowers, burnt orange peel and dark chocolate emerge, creating a complex whole. Medium to full body with well integrated tannins and a long finish. Delicious." James Suckling
"Here is another new Riserva to add to the portfolio of Mastroberardino wines. The 2016 Taurasi Riserva Stiléma is a traditional wine, or a reinterpretation of a traditional wine, that pays homage to some of the great bottles of yesteryear with shorter maceration times for moderate phenolic extraction and the use of neutral French and Slavonian oak that emphasise elegance over power. This streamlined and polished wine reveals dark fruits, cardamom, smoked tobacco and tertiary aromas of liquorice and tar that are just beginning to emerge. Despite the wine's age, you can taste the transparency of the fruit: Flesh, skins, stems and all." Wine Advocate

Which wine producer can really claim to have revived the native grape varieties of his region? The Mastroberardino family, however, has every right to do so, since without their exceptional commitment to research and cultivation, the wonderful ancient Campanian grapes of Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Piedirosso, Aglianico and Coda di Volpe would probably have died out after the Second World War. Located in Atripalda, near the provincial town of Avellino, the winery is known not only for its determination and modernity, but also for its biodiversity. Even today, the family, who exported their wines from Irpinia to South America at a very early age, still works hard to preserve history: years ago, Mastroberardino was commissioned to replant vines in the Pompeii excavation site exactly where they once stood. Founded in 1878, the large southern Italian wine house is now managed by Piero Mastroberardino.
The winery not only has a long history with a great tradition of red and white wines, but is also well equipped to meet the challenges of the future, not least thanks to a number of projects. It is still located in Atripalda, but the centre of the Wine House, which has had a strong influence on Campania's wine history over the past two centuries, is in the Radici Resort di Mirabella Park, where the research laboratories are also located. In addition to a wellness centre and the Mirabella Golf Club, guests can also dine in the Morabianca restaurant on the 60 hectare area. The park also contains the largest cultivated vineyard in Irpinia, which reaches an altitude of 400 metres. Here the grapes grow for a great wine from southern Italy - the Radici Taurasi DOCG. Even today, the winery still has some of the rarest wines of this format from the twenties and thirties that can be enjoyed very well.
In the course of time, the Mastroberardino winery has considerably expanded its collection, the wide range of wines leaves nothing to be desired. This assessment applies equally to all top red and white products, but the base wines are also very solid and convincing. Piero Mastroberardino, who was awarded the International Prize at the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona for his outstanding services to wine, is always happy to talk shop with connoisseurs who, for example, really appreciate a white wine that has matured for ten years.
