    • "Lacrimarosa" Rosato Irpinia DOC 2019

      “Lacrimarosa” Rosato Irpinia DOC 2019

Delicate rosé, aromatic vinous scent with notes of roses, violets and undergrowth. Fresh on the palate with fine acidity, soft and a slightly salty note. A wine which does not hide its volcanic origin and which is a pleasure to drink. SUPERIORE.DE

"If you’ve never experienced an Aglianico Rosato, then pull up a chair. The 2019 Lacrimarosa from Mastroberardino displays both sweet and savory tones on the bouquet, as ripe strawberry and roses give way to savory herbs, Indian spice, and white smoke. Soft textures envelope the palate in ripe fruits, showing more melon now than red fruit, but with a penetrating zing of vibrant acids which motivate the experience and expose the senses to salty minerals. On the finish, we return to the strawberry spectrum, along with alluring inner florals that seem to go on and on and on." Vinous

    • Radici Fiano di Avellino DOCG 2019

Radici Fiano di Avellino DOCG 2019

Mastroberardino makes a special effort to cultivate the ancient grape variety Fiano. It was already cultivated by the Romans, who called it Vitis apiana because of its special attraction to bees (apis). It produces a wine - straw yellow and wonderfully aromatic with a spicy honey and nut bouquet. The characteristic taste is very harmonious. SUPERIORE.DE

"This is lightly creamy and minerally, a light-bodied white with an overtone of smoke and stone layered with the well-cut acidity and flavors of Asian pear, pickled ginger and lemon thyme." Wine Spectator

"This is a fun and versatile white wine. The 2019 Fiano di Avellino Radici is fresh and buoyant with white peach, crushed stone, honey and sage. This is an exceedingly fresh and snappy expression of Fiano, with good acidity and tension, promising an easy pairing with a Neapolitan "pasta cas' cucuzziell e ova," a cheesy pasta with zucchini and eggs." Robert Parker

"Exotic-fruit, pear and white-spring-flower aromas mingle together with a delicate whiff of smoke. The savory, vibrant palate features white stone fruit, lemon drop and a hint of honeyed almond alongside tangy acidity. A saline note adds depth." Wine Enthusiast

"The 2019 Fiano di Avellino Radici is remarkably fresh and vibrant, showing ripe pear with hints of mango. A whiff of smoky florals evolve as the Radici sweeps across the senses with grace, displaying flavors of ripe orchard fruits, then savory hints of sage and minerals. The finish is long and fresh, neatly framed by a twang of residual acids with a saline quality, which begs for another sip." Vinous

"The lemons, lemon grass and dried peaches are embracing on the nose, following through to the palate with a creamy texture and a long, precise finish. Nicely focused." James Suckling

“Re di More” Aglianico Irpinia DOC 2018

Re di More is an intense and outstanding Aglianico from genuine single-vineyard Prephylloxera clones that combines richness and harmony in the most beautiful way. Aromas of dried fruits, leather, tobacco and spices are perfectly interwoven with fruit, acidity and tannin. SUPERIORE.DE

"A richly tarry, minerally overtone on the nose integrates with flavors of baked blackberry, fig cake, cured tobacco and melted licorice. Round and medium- to full-bodied, this appealing red balances a lavish flavor profile with bright acidity and light tannins that define the fresh, spiced finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2018 Aglianico Re di More leads off with a burst of ripe blackberry preserves, complemented by a whiff of cinnamon and confectioners' sugar. On the palate, soft textures usher in ripe fruits contrasted by saline-minerals over a core of vibrant acids and spice. The finish is long, leaning more toward the savory side, as tart red and black fruits come together with sour citrus, creating a cheek-puckering expression, as hints of youthful tannins linger on. From the bouquet, you expect a blockbuster; yet instead, the palate delivers a pure and zesty expression of Aglianico." Vinous

“Novaserra” Greco di Tufo DOCG 2019

Generous bouquet of yellow peaches and aniseed. Ripe, yet incredibly fresh fruit on the palate, very harmonious and diverse. In the long final we discover a mineral note as well as a delicate hint of caramel, very nice interpretation of a Greco di Tufo. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Greco di Tufo Novaserra is savory to the core, with notes of dusty florals, exotic spice, and young pear up front. With time in the glass, it gains richness, taking on green citrus and a hint of hazelnut. On the palate, I'm finding this Greco to have a fresh and vibrant display, soothing the senses with ripe, citrus-tinged apple, while stimulating acids and minerals build through the long and zesty finish." Vinous

"The Mastroberardino 2019 Greco di Tufo NovaSerra shows clarity and lots of tangy lemon with white peach, quince and pear. This Greco-based wine is linear and bright with great acidity and sharp mineral tones that add focus and framing to those citrusy notes at its core. NovaSerra is the ultimate palate cleanser, especially if a plate of calamari fritti is in the works." Robert Parker

"White spring blossom, exotic fruit and peach aromas shape the enticing nose. It's savory and medium in weight, doling out Meyer lemon, honeydew melon and ripe yellow apple before a tangy saline finish. Bright acidity lifts the juicy flavors." Wine Enthusiast

    • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2012

      Radici Taurasi DOCG 2012

Still a bit angular and rustic in its early years, the 2012 will now - after several years of deserved bottle maturity - reveal the true potential of a Radici Taurasi. Opulent, warm bouquet of cherries and black berries, along with spicy and wild herbal notes. On the palate it is finely woven, elegant and envelopingly silky, the fullness and complexity of this Aglianico inspires more with every sip. Even though it can mature for many years, it is already an unforgettable pleasure. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Taurasi Radici is still in the process of integrating. Under that sweet spice and toast, you definitely get a clear glimpse of the pretty fruit below. Morello cherry and dried blackberry give substance and fiber to the core of this robust red wine." Robert Parker

    • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2014

      Radici Taurasi DOCG 2014

Deep dark black red. Warm bouquet of dried cherries, plums, spices, tobacco, truffles and ashes. As the wine matures in the bottle, it presents itself on the palate smoother and silkier, the extract sweetness plays around the full aroma of black cherry and blackberry jam, in the finish then of generous length and depth. SUPERIORE.DE

"Blackberry, truffle, fragrant blue flower and plum aromas follow through to the juicy palate along with baking spice and blackberry compote. Polished tannins lend finesse and structure. It's already delicious but will also offer good mid-term aging." Wine Enthusiast

"Mastroberardino shows an impressive performance in this challenging vintage that was cooler and wetter than average. The 2014 Taurasi Radici is a rich and darkly concentrated expression of Aglianico with a generous bouquet. The wine's aromas are stacked high and tall with dried cherry, prune, Indian spice, tar, tobacco and campfire ash. Perhaps the mouthfeel is less powerful compared to a warmer vintage, but that cooling acidity and compact flavor profile suits this wine very nicely." Robert Parker

    • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2015

      Radici Taurasi DOCG 2015

A very special wine made from overripe and strictly selected Aglianico grapes, which grow on Mastroberardino's south facing vineyards. The Taurasi is aged in oak barrels for two years and rests in the bottle for one year. A wine with a fascinating personality, strength and a very high storage potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Mid ruby. Grilled meat, nutty spice and smoke, with overripe red-cherry fruit beneath. Focused, ripe red-cherry fruit on the palate, with precision of fine-grained, fairly firm tannins. Precise, direct and linear, but by no means simple, carrying smoky, saline, rocky mineral savoury layers. Long. Classy." Jancis Robinson

"Fresh and focused, this elegant, medium- to full-bodied version features plush tannins married to ripe cherry and raspberry fruit. A subtle underpinning of loamy earth and an aromatic skein of saffron and spice unravels on the long finish." Wine Spectator

"Fully saturated ruby. Aromas of woodsy underbrush and red cherry, plus a dusting of crushed stones and red flowers. Refined and perfectly balanced on the palate, conveying a seamless quality to the dark and red fruit flavors. Finishes very pure and long with mineral accents. Lovely." Vinous

"The Mastroberardino 2015 Taurasi Radici is a dark and savory wine with thickly stacked aromas of black fruit, tar, licorice and campfire ash. This is a baritone Taurasi from a warm and sunny vintage that boasts concentrated and rich flavors as a result. Despite the evident power you get here, Taurasi has a beautiful manner of staying focused and sharp nonetheless. This wine demonstrates that quality very nicely." Robert Parker

"I love the spicy and lifted notes here of caramelized orange peel, dried meat, blackcurrants, pomegranate, sea urchin and bark. A seamless and wonderfully elegant, medium-bodied palate follows with finely grained tannins and loads of floral undertones. This wine is all about transparency and subtlety. Best Radici in years." • Radici Taurasi DOCG 2016

      Radici Taurasi DOCG 2016

A very special wine made from overripe and strictly selected Aglianico grapes that thrive in Mastroberardino's south-facing vineyards. The Taurasi is aged in oak barrels for two years and rests in the bottle for one year. A wine with a fascinating personality, power and an extremely high ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fresh and minerally, this elegant, medium- to full-bodied version marries taut tannins in a fine, tense frame with well-meshed flavors of roasted fig, crushed black cherry, Earl Grey tea leaf and woodsy spice." Wine Spectator

"This wine paints an authentic portrait of the Aglianico grape made according to family-honored traditions in the province of Avellino. The Mastroberardino 2016 Taurasi Radici reveals a unique combination of tart cherry fruit, savory smoke and campfire ash. You also get some candied orange peel, tilled earth and rusty nail. This vintage represents one of the most complete and balanced editions of the Taurasi Radici program that I have tasted in 20 years, and I look forward to tracking its bottle evolution." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Taurasi Radici is an elegant, feminine beauty that's geared for many years of development in the cellar, showing an alluring, dark, and earthy expression up front, which blossoms into a display of citrus-tinged blackberries, rosy florals, and a hint of animal musk. It coats the palate in silky richness, ushering in polished black fruits, offset by cooling herbal and mineral tones, as round tannins slowly emerge. The finish is long, youthfully poised, and structured, staining the senses in dark fruits, along with hints of spiced citrus and crushed violets. What a gorgeous Taurasi this is, and it will only improve with cellaring." Vinous

    • Radici Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2014

      Radici Taurasi Riserva DOCG 2014

Bright, powerful ruby, aromas of cherry, redcurrant, cocoa and tar. Juicy, spicy and bright, with firm acidity and tight tannins that give it definition and lift to the flavours. Very fresh and precise, persistent and smooth. Has excellent potential. Tasting decades-old wines from Mastroberardino (dating back to 1928), it becomes clear: the wines are monumental, immortal or at least for eternity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Packaged with a white label, the 2014 Taurasi Riserva Radici opens to spice and savory notes with dried fruit, blackcurrant and dried cherry. In terms of mouthfeel, this Riserva is a bit leaner in the mid-palate (this is a common trait of the vintage); however, it does flesh out to power a polished mouthfeel with plenty of dark fruit and smoke. The tannins are integrated and spicy. Of the many wines Mastoberardino makes, this is probably the one marked for a nice, grilled steak." Robert Parker

"The dark and brooding 2014 Taurasi Riserva Radici is geared for the cellar, yet already thrilling to taste. Here I'm finding a mix of crushed tart cherries, blackberry, and plums, offset by savory herbs, orange rind, and a hint of mocha. On the palate, velvety textures coat the senses, slowly giving way to a complex blend of citrus-tinged dark fruits and saline-minerals, as fine tannin saturates the senses. The finish is long and classically structured, clenching the palate, yet leaving a pretty display of spiced orange and inner florals. There are many years of evolution in store for the 2014 Riserva. The patient consumer will benefit from losing a few bottles in their cellar for at least five to ten years." Vinous

"Really complex aromas of iodine, spices and blackberries with some clove, pepper and pumice undertones. Full-bodied, yet so balanced and focused with really fine tannins. Extremely long with some tar highlighting the fruit. Fantastic release. Reminds me of some of the great Taurasi from the 1960s from here." James Suckling

      “Naturalis Historia” Taurasi DOCG 2008

The grapes for the rare Naturalis Historia come from a 40-year-old vineyard located 400 meters above sea level with deep, sandy soils of volcanic origin in Mirabella. Deep, sparkling dark red. In the bouquet red currant, sweet spices and aromas of dark plums and red cherries. In the drink perfectly structured with well-dosed pressure, but with a full body that is never broad, but fresh, smooth and very agile, leading to a very harmonious, long lasting final. SUPERIORE.DE

"Lots of earth, spice and berry aromas and flavors. Full-bodied, round, savory and juicy. Lots of flavor and intensity. Gorgeous density." James Suckling

"Mature black-skinned berry, ripe plum, baking spice, violet and a whiff of earth are some of the aromas you'll find on this impressive red. The structured palate doles out juicy black cherry, crushed blackberry, vanilla and a dusting of cocoa framed in velvety tannins. Even though it's already accessible, it will continue to evolve and age well for years to come." Wine Enthusiast

"Fully saturated purple-ruby with a pale rim. Floral nuances complement blackberry, fresh herbs and sweet spices on the complex nose. Bright, juicy and fresh, then slightly linear in its delivery of steely blue and black fruit flavors. Finishes long with mountingly chewy tannins and a strong presence of licorice." Vinous

"Aromas evoking dark baking spice, forest floor, French oak, dried herb, violet and balsamic menthol are some of the aromas you'll find on this fragrant structured red. The concentrated palate evokes plum, blackberry jam, vanilla and tobacco while firm fine-grained tannins provide the support." Wine Enthusiast

"This bright red is full-bodied and mouthwatering, packed with ripe raspberry and black cherry fruit and licorice snap, mandarin orange peel and smoky mineral notes. Creamy tannins firm the lingering, aromatic finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2009 Taurasi Naturalis Historia is an exceptional expression of Aglianico that shows a surprisingly floral bouquet with dried rose petal and lavender potpourri. The wine is smooth and silky in texture, which is not an easy feat for the very robust and naturally tannic grape. This hearty red wine shows heft and persistence, but it also delivers grace and understated power. Toasted notes of cinnamon and roasted almond appear on the close." Robert Parker

    • "Naturalis Historia" Taurasi DOCG 2014

      “Naturalis Historia” Taurasi DOCG 2014

An excellent wine and a modern interpretation of the Taurasi and Aglianico grapes, but without denying their identity. Complex on the nose, full-bodied and wonderfully concentrated, the precise taste with soft, fine-grained tannins and almost endless length. SUPERIORE.DE

"Very deep ruby with a pale rim. Aromas of smoke, red and dark cherry, plum and violet, complicated by earthy notes. Flinty on entry, then sweet, rich and smoky, offering long, juicy plum and saline flavors." Vinous

"Although this Taurasi is very ripe with loads of blackberry essence, it also shows undeniable complexity, revealing tar, vanilla, dark chocolate, mocha and coffee beans. Full-bodied and plush, but then a wall of potent, mouthwatering acidity cuts straight through the dark-fruited center palate. A wine of contrast." James Suckling

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2012 · 6 Bottles in OWC

Still a bit angular and rustic in its early years, the 2012 will now - after several years of deserved bottle maturity - reveal the true potential of a Radici Taurasi. Opulent, warm bouquet of cherries and black berries, along with spicy and wild herbal notes. On the palate it is finely woven, elegant and enveloping silky, the fullness and complexity of this Aglianico inspires more with every sip. Even if it can mature for many years, it is already an unforgettable pleasure.

"Black-walnut, blackberry and black-olive aromas follow through to a full body, round and chewy tannins and a flavorful finish. Very rich and intense." James Suckling

"Underbrush, red fruit, dark spice and a whiff of menthol are some of the aromas that come together on this. The firmly structured elegant palate offers ripe plum, red cherry, licorice and tobacco framed in youthfully austere fine-grained tannins that need time to unwind." Wine Enthusiast

"Lovely hints of spice box, graphite and violet accent the pure black currant and black cherry fruit in this harmonious, full-bodied red. There's good density to this focused version, with savory wild herb and tarry mineral details showing on the creamy, lingering finish." Wine Spectator

Radici Taurasi DOCG 2014 · 6 Bottles in OWC

    About the winemakersMastroberardinoCampania
    Mastroberardino

Which wine producer can really claim to have revived the native grape varieties of his region? The Mastroberardino family, however, has every right to do so, since without their exceptional commitment to research and cultivation, the wonderful ancient Campanian grapes of Fiano, Greco, Falanghina, Piedirosso, Aglianico and Coda di Volpe would probably have died out after the Second World War. Located in Atripalda, near the provincial town of Avellino, the winery is known not only for its determination and modernity, but also for its biodiversity. Even today, the family, who exported their wines from Irpinia to South America at a very early age, still works hard to preserve history: years ago, Mastroberardino was commissioned to replant vines in the Pompeii excavation site exactly where they once stood. Founded in 1878, the large southern Italian wine house is now managed by Piero Mastroberardino.

The winery not only has a long history with a great tradition of red and white wines, but is also well equipped to meet the challenges of the future, not least thanks to a number of projects. It is still located in Atripalda, but the centre of the Wine House, which has had a strong influence on Campania's wine history over the past two centuries, is in the Radici Resort di Mirabella Park, where the research laboratories are also located. In addition to a wellness centre and the Mirabella Golf Club, guests can also dine in the Morabianca restaurant on the 60 hectare area. The park also contains the largest cultivated vineyard in Irpinia, which reaches an altitude of 400 metres. Here the grapes grow for a great wine from southern Italy - the Radici Taurasi DOCG. Even today, the winery still has some of the rarest wines of this format from the twenties and thirties that can be enjoyed very well.

In the course of time, the Mastroberardino winery has considerably expanded its collection, the wide range of wines leaves nothing to be desired. This assessment applies equally to all top red and white products, but the base wines are also very solid and convincing. Piero Mastroberardino, who was awarded the International Prize at the Vinitaly wine fair in Verona for his outstanding services to wine, is always happy to talk shop with connoisseurs who, for example, really appreciate a white wine that has matured for ten years.
