Langhe Nebbiolo DOC 2021
Clear, precise Nebbiolo with a bouquet of ripe cherries and subtle notes of tobacco. Polished on the palate, expansive and with silky tannin, the juicy fruit is straightforward and long. Pure and sophisticated drinking pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2021 Langhe Nebbiolo is a fabulous entry-level wine from Altare. Succulent red cherry fruit, rose petal, orange peel and spice all meld together effortlessly. This mid-weight, supple Langhe Nebbiolo is a winner." Vinous

“La Villa” Rosso Langhe DOC 2016
La Villa a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera grapes with a wide bouquet of sour cherries and violets, in whose taste all components are precisely measured. Good fruit, polished tannin, fine acidity and a spicy finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2016 Langhe La Villa is a blend of Nebbiolo and Barbera. This plump, rich and ripe vintage is another good choice for a cheesy pasta dish with its 15% alcohol and solid acidity. The Barbera is what gives the wine its fleshy succulence and freshness, and the Nebbiolo adds the structure and the elegance. The finished product is opulent and dense." Wine Advocate
"Opulent and oaky, broad and concentrated, offering vanilla, spice and chocolate notes. Balanced and vibrant, with a long, fruit-, spice- and tar-filled aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"The 2016 La Villa is a blend of 60% Nebbiolo and 40% Barbera, both from Arborina. In this vintage, the weight and texture of Barbera dominate, at least in the early going. Creamy and expansive on the palate, the 2016 La Villa has a lot to offer once it fully comes together. Silky and beautifully perfumed, the 2016 is already quite expressive. It will be interesting to see if time brings a bit more harmony, although the 2016 certainly seems to have a good bit of potential." Vinous

“Larigi” Rosso Langhe DOC 2019
The extremely juicy, single-varietal Barbera Larigi is a dream and unfortunately still underestimated. Plum, cherry, a little chocolate and leather caress the palate, the wine leads into a long and fresh finish and has completely thrilled us! SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2019 Larigi, 100% Barbera, is elegant and nuanced, but also quite reserved. Given the warm year, I expected to see a richer wine, but instead the 2019 is incredibly understated in bearing. Sweet floral and spice notes add inner perfume to a core of ripe red/purplish berry fruit." Vinous
"A pure expression of Barbera from the family's historic vineyards in La Morra, the Elio Altare 2019 Langhe Rosso Larigi shows dark color concentration and generous fruit weight with punchy aromas of plum, candied cherry and baked blackberry. The wine ages in barrique for 18 months to offer plenty of savory spice and toast. This is a release of only 1,400 bottles." Wine Advocate

“Giàrborina” Rosso Langhe DOC 2018
This wine is practically a Barolo, except for the fact that it is released a year earlier. Langhe Giàrborina draws its fruit from the top Arborina site in La Morra. Blackberries and plums are surrounded by smoke, tar and black liquorice in the most refined and elegant way. A magnificent, single-varietal Nebbiolo, impeccably balanced, impressively elegant and with a promising future. SUPERIORE.DE
"A pure expression of Nebbiolo (that is made like a Barolo but released one year earlier), the Elio Altare 2018 Langhe Giàrborina gives us a sneak peek of this cool vintage (and its performance in Arborina, La Morra, where this fruit is cultivated). Giàrborina is a richly saturated expression with dark fruit, plenty of blackberry, spice, tar and campfire ash. The wine shows that extra degree of color saturation and fruity concentration that is a hallmark of the Altare family. There is a touch of cedar or sweet oak on the finish." Wine Advocate

Barolo Cannubi DOCG 2014
Barolo Cannubi is garnet red in colour with a scent of wild berries. The elegant fruity taste shows typical strong tannins and a great acidity. Great class with excellent storage potential! SUPERIORE.DE
"Shining ruby with a garnet shimmer. Very intense, seductive nose, full of ripe, dark cherries, forest raspberries, some rhubarb, very clear. Fine-meshed, dense tannin in many layers, very clear and straightforward, flows calmly along, after violets and raspberries, salty." Falstaff
"Of the new 2014 Barolo releases from Elio and Silvia Altare, I am most impressed by the 2014 Barolo Cannubi. This wine dances or flutters over the palate with fine-tuned aromas of wild rose, white cherry, autumnal leaf and campfire ash. The mouthfeel is stitched together with silken threads. Because so much fruit was lost due to difficult weather conditions and hail in 2014, only 1,200 bottles were produced." Wine Advocate
"The 2014 Barolo Cannubi is sensual, polished and nuanced, but very much in the midweight style of the year. Fresh and vibrant, it has enough depth to drink well for another 20 years. The pedigree of Cannubi comes through in the wine's creamy, enveloping texture. Next to the other Barolos in the range, the Cannubi is defined by its silky tannins and beautifully layered feel – the qualities that make the best wines from this site so coveted." Antonio Galloni

Barolo Cannubi DOCG 2017
Precise bouquet of dark fruits, some smoke and liquorice, notes of cassis. On the palate, first a certain extract sweetness, then a wonderfully balanced interplay of acidity and tannin, which reveals great storage and ageing potential. The Barolo Cannubi with its interpretation of the Nebbiolo grape, which is probably the purest at Altare, has been the ambitious project of daughter Silvia since 2011 and represents an exciting rounding off of the already almost unique collection.
Sparkling, brightening ruby garnet. Very clear and inviting nose, smells of ripe raspberries and plums, some rose petals, discreet clove in the background. Round and balanced on the palate, plump ripe fruit, then starts with bundled, dense tannin, fills the palate full, a firework of spices in the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, medium dense ruby garnet. Opens with notes of ripe wild raspberries, very fragrant, fresh plums, fine leather in the background. Shows itself polished and balanced on the palate, fills the mouth richly, lots of fine-meshed tannin, supple, builds up very well, then firm pressure in the final." Falstaff
"The 2017 Barolo Cannubi is a dense, powerful wine. In most vintages, the Cannubi is gracious and finessed, but the 2017 packs a serious punch. Intense fruit and equally imposing tannins drive through to the finish. The 2017 needs time to come together, but it is not likely to ever be an easy wine. Mint, white pepper and flowers add a bright upper register to the red-toned fruit." Vinous
"The Elio Altare 2017 Barolo Cannubi is emerging as a top wine from this celebrated estate even though its first year of production was as recent as 2011. The Cannubi shows an extra level of finesse and pedigree that is fundamentally specific to this site, and of course, it takes a winemaker with vision to pull out the best and most nuanced side of this celebrated cru. This hot-vintage expression is especially impressive. Despite the high 15% alcohol content, the wine remains forever smooth and silky." Wine Advocateread more- Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo

Barolo Cannubi DOCG 2015
Also the 2015 edition of the shows the typical Cannubi attributes finesse, precision and an unmistakable opulence. Tight and generous on the palate, then with floral and fine fruity notes. The tannin is fine and the finish is long and elegant, as one would expect from a great Nebbiolo from the Altare family. SUPERIORE.DE
"Just mid ruby. Fairly deep ruby. Great precision and depth on the nose. The fruit fills out the palate without being oppressive or heavy. Firm, super-polished, fine tannins rolled out like a carpet for the intense fruit." Jancis Robinson
"The 2015 Barolo Cannubi is a gorgeous wine with a real glossy shine and bright quality that transcends the wine's appearance, bouquet and mouthfeel. There is so much volume here, and the wine covers the entire palate evenly and smoothly. In an increasing order of intensity among Altare's Barolos, this was the second to last wine we tasted." Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Barolo Cannubi is another stellar wine in this range. One of the more closed wines in the lineup, the Cannubi is going to need the better part of a decade to start coming into its own. Today, it is dense, powerful and full of energy, and yet there is a purity to the fruit that represents the purest essence of what Cannubi is all about. There is certainly a lot to look forward to here." Vinous

"Bright, radiant ruby garnet. Exciting nose of ripe raspberries, ripe cranberries, in addition noble nuances of black tea, fine undergrowth in the reverberation. At first juicy and tightly woven on the palate, opens profoundly and long, with very great tension, firm pressure in the final, pure Nebbiolo elegance." Falstaff
"The 2018 Barolo Cannubi is silky and gracious, and yet there is a good deal of stuffing behind all of that Cannubi finesse. Crushed rose petal, mint, sweet dried cherry and licorice build with a bit of time. It's all class and pedigree here. Impressive." Vinous
"Fluid and elegant, boasting strawberry, cherry, rose, mineral, spice and wild herb aromas and flavors. Firm, harmonious and long, with finely wrought tannins and a graceful profile." Wine Spectator
"This is a collectors' wine that owes its high bottle price to the prestige of the Cannubi cru and availability. A mere 1,500 bottles were produced of the Elio Altare 2018 Barolo Cannubi. The Altare family was able to get a lease on this special vineyard, and the first vintage made was 2011. This wine shows classic elegance, a graceful bouquet and fine tannins that give structure to the wine's mid–weight texture." Wine Advocate

Deep dark sparkling ruby with a fine garnet rim. On the nose, a colourful bouquet of black cherry, elderberry, graphite and a strong cassis note. On the powerful palate, the black fruits again, plus a wonderful balance and freshness with a picture-book tannin that further rounds off the perfect impression. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright, radiant ruby garnet. Complex and inviting nose of ripe cherries, some plums, in addition a lot of floral hints, in the background lightly of cranberries and a hint of peach, noble spice. On the palate radiant in approach and course, in addition tightly meshed tannin, juicy fruit comes back in many layers, powerful and compact, long final." Falstaff
"This is bursting with red berries–strawberry, currant and cherry–shaded by floral and rose hip accents. Firm and lively, with a sleek frame and a long, fruit–tinged aftertaste. Fine energy and harmony." Wine Spectator
"The 2018 Barolo Arborina is a powerful, burly wine that is going to need a bit of time to soften the firm young Nebbiolo tannins. There is plenty of Arborina energy and tannin that comes alive with a bit of coaxing. Dark cherry, gravel, cloves and licorice give the 2018 a decidedly somber feel in this vintage." Vinous
"The 2018 Barolo Arborina is born close to home, in the sunrise–facing vineyard that starts just below the family house and winery. This pretty wine reveals a delicate embroidery of wild rose, rusted nail, spice and clove–dotted orange. Barrel aging is with 20% new oak for 24 months. The finish is long and linear, ending with a powerful 15% alcohol. This vintage saw 6,200 bottles released." Wine Advocate

Barolo “Cerretta Vigna Bricco” Riserva DOCG 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC
Firmly anchored in La Morra, Elio Altare has been vinifying a Barolo in Serralunga d'Alba on a rented plot for a few years, vinified and bottled separately. A fascinating and powerful Nebbiolo with elegant fruit and floral aromas. Full-bodied, juicy and long on the palate, the dense tannin structure is of remarkable elegance. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sparkling, intense ruby garnet. Intense and inviting nose, of plums and rose petals, some truffle, fine leather notes. Substantial, deep tannin, shows notes of plums and pickled cherries, sweet melting unites the whole, fine spice in the finish." Falstaff
"Medium ruby. Concentrated cherry of great depth. Equal parts of energetic acidity and concentrated fruit that is truly à point. Finely chiselled tannins carrying the whole. Long, muscular finish that is super-elegant at the same time. Long and electrifying." Jancis Robinson
"The 2015 Barolo Riserva Cerretta Vigna Bricco is a bold and amply fleshed out expression with dried cherry, blackberry preserves, prune and more dried fruit at the back. The wine carries a 15% alcohol content, but in the case of this sunny and hot 2015 vintage, I feel that the fruit is more dried out as a result. With fruit from Serralunga d'Alba, you get a lot of brawn and muscle, with background tones of red brick and iron ore." Wine Advocate
"The 2015 Barolo Riserva Cerretta Vigna Bricco is a dark, powerful wine that expresses the depth and gravitas of Serralunga in spades. Black cherry, plum, chocolate, new leather, licorice and menthol all add to an impression of power and gravitas. Ample and creamy in feel, the 2015 has a lot to offer. This is the first vintage in which the Cerretta will be released as a Riserva, although in reality the wine has always been sold with the bottle age needed to qualify as a Riserva. In other words, the wine itself is unchanged from previous editions." Vinousread more- Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo

Barolo “UnoPerUno” DOCG 2013
Fabulously elegant Barolo in bright ruby garnet from the Arborina single vineyard and "uno per uno", i.e. berry for berry, manually selected! The bouquet of flowers, wild berries and herbs unsurpassed in its harmony. Equally balanced on the palate, with deep fruit and silky tannins. That's all Barolo can do! SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich, luminous ruby with a fine garnet shimmer. Cool and memorable nose, with notes of raspberry and blackberry, ripe cherry and notes of tea and tobacco. Round and smooth in the attack and course, ripe, clear fruit, much blackberry, dark cherries, fine enamel, opens with wonderfully fine-meshed tannin, juicy and long." Falstaff
"The result of extreme hand de-stemming, the 2013 Barolo Unoperuno is assembled berry-by-berry. Fruit comes from the estate's celebrated Arborina vineyard. This wine was not produced in 2014 (because yields were so low). Starting in 2015, it will also include fruit blended in from Cannubi, Cerretta and other sites. This edition shows a wonderful sense of precision and focus with subtle mineral intensity at the back of dried fruit, tobacco, moist earth and toasted hazelnut. Only 1,500 bottles are made. The labor required to make this wine is intense. It takes a full week to complete the hand de-stemming process in which each berry is picked off individually ("uno per uno"). The must undergoes a ten-day maceration period. To innovator Elio Altare, this is his interpretation of a "traditional" Barolo." Wine Advocate
"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Backward nose with a singed edge, but with plenty of depth. Backward palate too, with fragrant cherry and a certain cool sleekness too it. Richly tannic on the finish and plenty of sweet, embryonic, succulent fruit." Jancis Robinson

Barolo “UnoPerUno” DOCG 2018
The grapes of UnoPerUno come from the cru vineyards Arborina in La Morra, Cannubi in Barolo, Pernanno in Castiglione Falletto, Sarmassa in Barolo and Cerretta in Serralunga d'Alba and are individually destemmed. As a result of this intensive manual work, only 1,300 bottles of this exceptional wine are sold in well-stocked specialist shops, and only in the best vintages. Due to the manual destemming, no green overtones of the stems get into the mash, making the tannins silkier and creamier than in the conventional process. The result is something to be savoured: UnoPerUno is of high fruit intensity, has an incredible depth and structure and is a benchmark of the appellation every year in its purity and clarity on the nose and palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright ruby garnet. In the nose with stony hints, some graphite, then rich plum fruit, Amarena cherry, also hints of liquorice and mint. On the palate then very powerful and compact, opens on dark fruit, tightly meshed and polished, plus powerful tannin, dark elegance, spans a wide arc, can store for a long time." Falstaff
"The 2018 Barolo Unoperuno is terrific. Bright and beautifully perfumed, the Unoperuno impresses with finesse. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, kirsch, cinnamon, mint and dried flowers all soar out of the glass. Readers will find a Barolo of uncommon finesse and elegance. As has been the case for a few vintages now, the Unoperuno is made from a blend of vineyard sites, with all the fruit destemmed by hand. The purity of the flavors is unreal." Vinous
"Ripe, boasting plum, black cherry and coffee aromas and flavors framed by vanilla, caramel and leather accents. Lush and broad on the palate, yet with ample acidity to drive the lingering finish and keep this balanced. A more flamboyant '18." Wine Spectator
"As the wine name suggests, this Barolo is assembled a single berry at a time, "one by one." With a high price point that reflects a labor–intensive winemaking process, the Elio Altare 2018 Barolo Unoperuno shows some softness and sweetness of a hot vintage. This wine is made of a blend of fruit selected from Arborina (in La Morra), Cannubi (in Barolo), Pernanno (in Castiglione Falletto), Sarmassa (in Barolo) and Cerretta (in Serralunga d'Alba). The bouquet reveals soft cherry confit and dried raspberry with spice, leather and dark licorice. Made entirely by hand, this is a limited production of 1,300 bottles." Wine Advocate

"The 2017 Barolo Unoperuno is sensual, silky and nuanced. Crushed red berry fruit, blood orange, spice, mint and rose petal are some of the aromas and flavors that grace this exquisite, translucent Barolo. Heady and exotic from the first taste, the 2017 is vivid and beautiful, with silky tannins that add to its appeal. The Unoperuno is a selection of grapes, meticulously destemmed, from all of the Altare vineyards. Vinification in small lots, in barrel, has made a big difference here. In 2017, the Unoperuno is hugely appealing." Vinous
"The Elio Altare 2017 Barolo Unoperuno (with each berry selected "one by one") draws its fruit from Arborina in La Morra, Cannubi in Barolo, Pernanno in Castiglione Falletto, Sarmassa in Barolo and Cerretta in Serralunga d'Alba. The wine reveals dark and saturated fruit, but the characteristic that stands out in this wine is its slightly spicy quality, with dried blackberry, ginger and cinnamon stick.

Barolo Cannubi DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC
The Barolo Cannubi with its interpretation of the Nebbiolo grape, probably the purest at Altare, has been the ambitious project of daughter Silvia since 2011 and represents an exciting rounding off of the already almost unique collection. Sparkling, brightening ruby garnet. A very clear and inviting nose, smelling of ripe raspberries and plums, a little rose petals, subtle hints of cloves in the background.

Barolo “UnoPerUno” DOCG 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC

"Sparkling, intense ruby garnet. Appealing and profound nose, opens with notes of ripe plums and black cherries, some pomegranate and blood orange. Shows lots of plump fruit on the attack, opens with lots of dense, smoothly integrated tannin, creamy, sweet melting on the final." Falstaff
This Barolo imparts a soft and thickly textured approach that wraps thickly over the palate." Wine Advocateread more- Grape Variety: 100% Nebbiolo

A typical visit to the family business Elio Altare. Silvia, the older of the two daughters is already the boss. She has prepared everything and welcomes the guests. The tasting begins. In between Elio comes and shakes his hands. "I'm so glad to finally be able to step down, because I'm tired. I don't want to explain for the umpteen thousandth time why I make my wines different. It's all in books anyway, even in movies you can see it."
Somebody's asking a question. And as if someone had activated the light switch, Elio lights up and begins to tell passionately. Like when he took over the farm in 1976. Silvia leaves the room silently and comes back after a good three quarters of an hour. She's got good timing. She knows her father. Elio immediately notices that he is not a bit tired, but the tasting should go on, he says goodbye, not without smilingly explaining how proud he is of his daughters, and disappears to one of his new projects, a village in Alta Piemonte, which he renovates with friends. There will then be delicious cheese, organic fruit and vegetables - and perhaps a spumante from the almost extinct grape variety Liseiret, because saving his vineyard in Cinque Terre is as good as done. Old age tired looks different somehow.
Silvia continues the tasting and it quickly becomes clear that quality and style are unchanged, Barolo's big cinema in La Morra continues. Laughing, she makes it clear that since she can think, she has always helped, she has simply lived the perfection of her father and will continue to do so.
Elio Altare is one of the "Barolo Boys", a group of young winegrowers from the poorest backgrounds who, in the late 1960s and following decades, worked their way up, introduced modern cellar techniques, shorter fermentation times and ageing in French barriques and were therefore extremely successful. His goal has always been to make Barolo as elegant and long-lasting as the famous Burgundy wines from which he brought the ideas. That was clearly successful.
The small mixed farm Cascina Nuova of the grandfather in La Morra has become with hard work in the course of the decades the model enterprise of the modern Barolo winegrowers. In addition to the - in the truest sense of the word - local mountain, the top location Arborina, over the years some of the very best cru locations, such as Cannubi and Cerretta Vigna Bricco in the Barolo area, have been acquired by purchase or lease. So today there are 12 hectares of absolute top vineyards, which are cultivated by the family with respect by hand, all without the use of chemicals and pesticides. The cellar is fermented only with our own yeasts and as little sulphur as possible is used. In recent years, the range has been supplemented by the "Uno per Uno", a top barolo from the Arborina cru vineyard, where the family desteps the grapes by hand and selects only the very best grapes.
In addition to the Barolo specialities, which have always received the highest awards worldwide, the Dolcetto, Barbera and Nebbiolo are also long-running favourites in the top ranks of international ratings. The Barbera Larigi or the Nebbiolo-Barbera-Cuvée La Villa as well as the Nebbiolo Giarborina have as much success as the Barolo grenades. It is worth mentioning that Elio Altare and some of his winemaking colleagues have been sharing their success with the poor for many years because they have never forgotten how they themselves once felt. Thus the proceeds from the wine series "L'Insieme", which could be translated as "We Together", benefit charity projects. SUPERIORE.DE
