“Melacce” Vermentino Montecucco DOC 2022 (BIO)
Classic Vermentino from Montecucco: Intensely floral, fruit-driven bouquet with clear notes of hawthorn, green apple, grapefruit and white peach. Fresh and juicy on the palate, the elegant acidity spans a beautiful fan, then salty notes in the well-proportioned final. SUPERIORE.DE
"Sweet apples, pears, white flowers and hints of candied lime create an inviting bouquet as the 2020 Vermentino Melacce Montecucco blossoms in the glass. It is soft, round and soothing, with white stone fruits and minerals under a touch of pretty inner flowers. It finishes fresh and honeyed, with a touch of salty minerals that create wonderful contrasts." Vinous
"Bright straw yellow with silver. In the nose currently reductive, very young, some citrus fruit. Shows on the palate with a juicy entry and crisp progression, green spicy, prancing, uncomplicated." Falstaff
"This white wine shows intense aromas and flavours of peach, white grapefruit, lemongrass, sage and minerals. It is almost creamy before the acidity and a slight mineral feel finish the impression in a more defined way." Wine Spectator
"This is citrusy and a little grassy with hints of guava, sliced apples and jasmine on offer. Medium-bodied with clean acidity and a sleek, polished texture. Very attractive and fresh." James Suckling

“Irisse” Vermentino Montecucco DOC 2021 (BIO)
Bright yellow organic Vermentino with a small amount of Grechetto. The idea comes from Maurizio Castelli, who also advises the Barberani winery in Umbria. Maurizio Castelli thus creates this wonderful white from the Tuscan coast from traditional, local blends according to historical models and always picks the grapes quite late. On the nose, a bright scent of apple, pear, flint and some exoticism. Complex and full on the palate, the rich taste is accompanied by an invigorating, fresh acidity until the long final. SUPERIORE.DE
"This is creamy and flavorful with notes of peach stone, nectarines, citrus blossom and crushed stones. Medium-bodied, dry and tangy with a fresh, zesty character." James Suckling
"The 2021 Vermentino Irisse is delicate and understated, with a pretty white flower, yellow apple and crushed stone bouquet. It's silky smooth and pliant on the palate, impressing with depths of mineral-tinged orchard fruits and savory spices. This cleans up beautifully through the finish, leaving a slightly tropical air of florals and green melon." Vinous
"Bright straw yellow. A little restrained on the nose. Juicy and salty on the palate, with a slightly stony feel and nice complexity, on candied citrus notes, keeps coming on the final." Falstaff

Claudio Tipa, together with his wife Maria and his sister Maria Iris, has built up a small wine empire from several branches scattered all over Tuscany, starting with the purchase of the Castello ColleMassari winery. With the winery, which is located in the northern Maremma in the Montecucco DOC between Montalcino and the vineyards of Morellino di Scansano, about 320 meters above sea level, the family not only fulfilled a long-cherished dream, but the new owners also meant a noticeable upgrading of the growing zone, which is excellently suitable for the cultivation of Sangiovese.
Claudio Tipa, Sicilian by birth and president of the Consorzio Montecucco, has granted the Tuscan parade variety, which has emerged from selections in cooperation with the University of Pisa, a lion's share of about 80 percent among the red grapes in the vineyards. Vermentino has a similar importance among the white grape varieties. Until today ColleMassari has gained an excellent reputation also beyond the borders of the Maremma. So, it is no surprise that the wine guide Gambero Rosso has chosen the exemplary producer site as "wine estate of the year" in 2014.
After acquiring the estate, the passionate owners not only purchased additional land, but also undertook a complete restructuring of the business. The vineyards and the cellar were thoroughly modernized with considerable financial means. The estate is located in an area characterized by a particularly favorable microclimate with good ventilation and strong temperature fluctuations. The steep vineyards are cultivated according to the traditional methods of the cordon or double Guyot system. From the beginning, the winery has worked according to the principles of certified organic viticulture.
In the imposing cellar, the grapes and must are processed on four levels without pumps or other mechanical aids. The top cuvées are fermented in 1,000-liter conical wooden vats and only processed manually. All other wines complete the fermentation process in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Not least due to optimal conditions in the plots and in the cellar, the Tipa family's wines, which radiate a lot of personality, have continuously gained in quality. Most recently, the Riserve of the Montecucco Sangiovese Lombrone and the Montecucco Rosso ColleMassari were often among the most outstanding wines. Today, ColleMassari Spa includes, besides ColleMassari, the estates Grattamacco in the Bolgheri area and Poggio di Sotto in Montalcino. These also occupy top positions in their respective regions.
