In the finish, the spicy tones merge with a pleasant fruity note. All in all a promising drop at a very attractive price! SUPERIORE.DE

"Very rich, dark ruby red. In the nose after fine wood spice and ripe raspberries, cherries, forest fruits, some liquorice in the aftertaste. On the palate it opens beautifully, juicy and clear, handy tannin until the final, delicate post-drying." Falstaff

"Cherry, leather, iron and earth flavors shout Sangiovese, yet there is a saline element too. Linear, dry and persistent. Shows fine balance." Wine Spectator

"Aromas of cherries and watermelon follow through to a medium body, light tannins and a fresh finish. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling

"The bouquet is savory yet slightly restrained in its youthful state, as notes of crushed raspberry give way to peppery floral and herbal tones, with a hint of spiced orange. On the palate, silky textures flood the senses with pure cherry and wild berry, as saline-minerals and fine tannins slowly settle in, kept lively through balanced acidity. The finish is long and structured with saturating dried red fruits resonating, turning more toward the savory spectrum, as youthful tannins clench the senses. The 2016 Colle Massari Montecucco Rosso Riserva is a blend of 80% Sangiovese with equal parts Ciliegiolo and Cabernet Sauvignon. It’s classic in every way and geared up for a long stay in the cellar." Vinous

“Irisse” Vermentino Montecucco DOC 2018 (BIO)

Bright yellow organic Vermentino with a small percentage of Grechetto, which comes from the Barberani estate in Umbria. Advisor Maurizio Castelli thus creates this wonderful white wine from the Tuscan coast from a traditional, local blend based on a historical model and always harvests the grapes rather late. In the nose a bright scent of apple, pear and fine vanilla aroma. Complex and full on the palate, the very ripe taste is accompanied by a subtle acidity. SUPERIORE.DE

The Riserva Poggio Lombrone is produced according to the traditional style of winemaking and organically. Striking bouquet of red fruits, roses, violets and sweet spices. Polished, rich texture on the palate, full of finesse and with balanced tannins. A great Sangiovese full of character with good ageing potential. SUPERIORE.DE

"From the vineyard of the same name at 300 meters above sea level, matures for 36 months in large wood: precise raspberry and violet nose; smooth in the mouth, the vitalizing acidity and fine-grained tannins perfectly integrated, lots of juice, grinding and smoothness to the finish. Pleases with its elegant and accurate finish." Vinum

"The 2015 Montecucco Riserva Poggio Lombrone shows peppery florals and cedary spice, with hints of young strawberry, green botanicals and musky animal undergrowth. Silky textures flood the senses with flavors of tart cherry and savory herbs, as saline-minerals and round tannins collect on the senses. It finishes long, structured, and refined, resonating on brisk acids and spice, the red fruits lingering on. The Poggio Lombrone is a wine of real fruit and floral purity, which grows on you the more time you spend with it. I don’t see this aging beyond the medium term, yet it will provide many years of fine drinking for the Sangiovese purist." Vinous

    About the winemakers
    ColleMassari
    Tuscany | Maremma
    ColleMassari

Together with his wife Maria and sister Maria Iris, Claudio Tipa has built up a small wine empire from several branches scattered throughout Tuscany, starting with the purchase of the Castello ColleMassari winery. Located in the northern Maremma in Montecucco DOC, between Montalcino and the vineyards of Morellino di Scansano, at an altitude of 320 metres above sea level, the vineyard not only fulfilled a long-cherished dream of the family, but also brought with it a significant upgrading of the area of cultivation that was ideally suited to the cultivation of Sangiovese.

Claudio Tipa, native Sicilian and president of the Consorzio Montecucco, has granted the Tuscan showpiece variety, which was selected in cooperation with the University of Pisa, a lion's share of around 80 percent of the red grapes in the vineyards. The white grape varieties of the Vermentino are of similar importance. Until today, ColleMassari has earned an excellent reputation beyond the borders of the Maremma. It is therefore no surprise that the Wine Guide Gambero Rossohas named the exemplary production site "Winery of the Year" in 2014.

The owners, who went to work with great passion, not only bought land after the acquisition of the estate, but also undertook a complete restructuring of the company. The vineyards and the cellar were fundamentally modernised with considerable financial means. The estate is situated in an area characterised by a particularly favourable microclimate with good ventilation and wide variations in temperature. The steep vineyards are cultivated according to the traditional methods of the cordon and double Guyot systems. From the very beginning, the winery has been working according to the principles of certified organic viticulture.

In the imposing cellar the grapes and must are processed on four levels without pumps and other mechanical aids. The cuvées are fermented in 1,000 litre conical wooden vats and only processed manually. All other wines undergo the fermentation process in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Not least because of optimal conditions in the parcels and in the cellar, the wines of the Tipa family, which radiate a lot of personality, have continuously gained in quality. Most recently, the Riserve of Montecucco Sangiovese Lombrone and Montecucco Rosso ColleMassari were often among the most outstanding crescences. Today ColleMassari Spa includes Colle Massari, Grattamacco in the Bolgheri area and Poggio di Sotto in Montalcino. These also occupy top positions in their respective regions. SUPERIORE.DE
