“Meriggio” Bianco di Toscana Centrale IGT 2017 (BIO)

Very appetizing Sauvignon Blanc from Tuscany. Bright straw yellow, beautiful scent with aromas of light berries, pear and honey. Round, harmonious taste, long and complex. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Meriggio is a pure expression of Sauvignon Blanc from the heart of the Panzano in Chianti growing area. This is a fresh and luminous wine with a pretty bouquet of citrus, white peach and honeydew melon." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Meriggio (Sauvignon Blanc) is intriguing. Aging a portion of the wine in amphora gives the 2017 added structure and minerality, both of which are remarkable given the warm, arid conditions of the year. Translucent and energetic, the 2017 has a lot going on" Antonio Galloni

"The 2018 Meriggio is a very pretty white from Fontodi. In this vintage, Giovanni Manetti added 10% Trebbiano and also aged 1/3rd of the wine in terra cotta, both of which help retain a touch of freshness that is quite welcome. The combination of Panzano richness that comes so naturally, with the aromatics of Sauvignon and the energy of Trebbiano make for a compelling, super-expressive white." Vinous

    • "Filetta di Lamole" Chianti Classico DOCG 2015 (BIO)

“Filetta di Lamole” Chianti Classico DOCG 2015 (BIO)

Ruby red with bright reflections. Filetta di Lamole comes from selected Lamole vineyards of the Giovanni Manettis family and was vinified for the first time in 2015. A multi-layered, elegant Chianti Classico, which plays out its aromas nuanced and shows a fascinating structure. Cherry, slightly tarry notes, violets and forest blossoms: in this wine one recognizes the handwriting of Fontodi, and yet it is different because it is more subtle and restrained with its existing powers. A wonderful new addition to the Fontodi portfolio, which underlines the class of the winery even more. SUPERIORE.DE

"Brilliant ruby with a slight garnet glow. Opened with slightly smoky, spicy notes of tobacco and beetroot, with blackberry in the background. On the palate much finely meshed tannin, spans a wide arch, salty and earthy in the finish, very long." Falstaff

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is an attractive, mid-weight wine. Game, smoke, earthiness and tobacco give the 2015 a distinctly wild flavor profile to play off the wild cherry fruit. A Chianti of understatement and nuance, the 2015 has a lot to recommend it. The warm vintage has filled out this mid-weight Chianti very nicely. As always, though, the Filetta di Lamole is a Chianti built on aromatics and structure more than fruit." Antonio Galloni

"There's a tight grain here, with black cherry and tar flavors backed by stiff tannins. Stays mostly elegant and the finish extends." Wine Spectator

"Fontodi's newest wine comes from his cousin's 7ha holdings in the cool zone of Lamole. The terraced vineyards sit at 600 metres above sea level on sandstone soil. Fermented in cement and aged in French oak casks, the 2015 is still backward on the nose, yet the palate reveals violets, lavender, forest blossoms and raspberry. Underneath it has a decidedly flinty edge with chalky, powdery tannins. This is captivating." Decanter

"A floral Chianti Classico that shows fresh rose petals and stems, tulips and cranberries. The palate combines acidic flair with velvety tannins while remaining composed and vivid." James Suckling

    • "Filetta di Lamole" Chianti Classico DOCG 2016 (BIO)

“Filetta di Lamole” Chianti Classico DOCG 2016 (BIO)

Filetta di Lamole comes from selected Lamole vineyards of the Giovanni Manettis family and was vinified for the first time in 2015. A multi-layered, elegant Chianti Classico, which plays out its aromas nuanced and shows a fascinating structure. Ruby red with bright reflections. A complex bouquet of cherry, followed by tarry notes, violets and forest blossoms. In this wine one recognizes the handwriting of Fontodi, and yet it is different because it is more subtle and restrained with its existing powers. A wonderful new addition to the Fontodi portfolio that underlines the class and versatility of the estate. SUPERIORE.DE

"Concentrated mid ruby. Oatmeal and minerally notes on the nose. With aeration a little perfumed. Impressive concentration of embryonic fruit on the palate. Gorgeous balance and with bags of tasty tannins on the finish." Jancis Robinson

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is terrific. In this vintage, Filetta di Lamole is especially deep, certainly moreso than the first two vintages. At the same time, the 2016 shows all the signatures that are typical of this cool-climate site, with plenty of game, sage, licorice, menthol and spice overtones that add character to a core of dark blue/purplish berry fruit." Vinous

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Filetta di Lamole is a beautifully intense and direct expression that delivers a full bouquet of rich primary fruit with direct confidence and extreme precision. The wine is tight and streamlined with cooling fruit flavors of wild berry, cassis and sour cherry backed by linear mineral notes of crushed stone and flint. It is lightweight in terms of consistency with a fine and elegant close. Filetta di Lamole shows a slightly wild or untamed character within the greater Fontodi house style. The fruit comes from the cool-climate, high-altitude Lamole subregion (with vines planted at 600 meters above sea level), and this explains the wine's fragile and finely knit approach." Robert Parker

"The 2016 growing season was cooler than 2015, resulting in a long, slow ripening and a later harvest. After finishing picking the Fontodi vineyards, Giovanni Manetti harvested this higher altitude plot in Lamole between 14 and 16 October. Earthy rather than fruit-driven, this wine gradually reveals cranberry bush, wild red currants and rosepetal aromas. While the frame is lean, the fine, chalky tannins build to support the sinewy fruit. A more angular expression than Fontodi but really should be appreciated in its own right." Decanter

"A touch of new oak lends spice notes to the mix of cherry, berry, tobacco and wild herb flavors. Densely wrought, with the tannins leaving a resonant tactile sensation as this plays out on the long finish. Balanced, but will need a little time to soften and harmonize." Wine Spectator

"I love the freshness to this red that shows citrus, violets, fresh herbs and lavender. Driven and very tangy with angular, cutthroat acidity and a zippy finish. Delicious and an amazing food wine." James Suckling

    • Chianti Classico DOCG 2016 (BIO)

      Chianti Classico DOCG 2016 (BIO)

Chianti Classico by Giovanni Manetti offers a deep and still very youthful bouquet of red fruits and fine spicy notes. The solid taste with long lasting impressions, well extracted tannin and the typical Sangiovese acidity shows clearly recognizable terroir character. Very clear, straightforward, long, always fresh and juicy, with excellent strength.

"Fontodi's 2016 Chianti Classico is an expertly administered and measured wine that shows bright fruit intensity backed by Sangiovese's characteristic acidity, primary freshness and integrated structure. This wine is perfectly engineered to pair with Tuscan dishes such as pappardelle ribbon pasta with rabbit or wild boar ragù. The wine will not only cleanse the palate from those flavors, but it will enhance the savory flavors." Robert Parker

"Giovanni Manetti has been managing his family's property since 1979. From the start he has been pushing the quality of the region forward and, as the new President of the Chianti Classico consortium, he continues to do so. Though not claimed as such, Fontodi's annata could technically be a Riserva and the 2016 is particularly spectacular. Still nascent, it's stunningly fragrant with scents of smoke, anise, dark red cherry and violet. Ample yet graceful tannins cling to the palate with succulent fruit to balance. It remains light on its feet, with a lift of liquorice on the long finish." Decanter

"A sleek, black cherry– and blackberry-infused red, coupled with a steely, vibrant structure. Linear and tense, featuring an energetic finish. Tobacco, graphite and macchia notes add depth as this unwinds on the long finish." Wine Spectator

"Extremely polished and refined with cherries, wet earth and hints of smoke. Medium-bodied with a beautiful balance of fruit and spice, as well as mushrooms. Fresh at the end. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling

"The 2016 Chianti Classico Fontodi brings together all the elements that make the Fontodi wines so unique, but with an extra kick of freshness and aromatic intensity that is the result of a year with notable diurnal shifts during the growing season. Dark blue/purplish fruit, lavender, spice and menthol develop in the glass, but it is the wine's extraordinary balance and sheer appeal that stand out most. In time, 2016 may very well become the new benchmark for Fontodi's Chianti Classico. The 2016 is flat-out delicious." Vinous

"A rich, dark ruby with a violet shimmer. Smells of soot and black pepper, then some blueberry, spice is in the foreground. Firm and gripping on the palate, much hearty, present tannin, pithy." Falstaff

"The 2015 Syrah Case Via is a rich, boisterous wine endowed with tremendous fruit depth and overall intensity. Black cherry, plum, new leather, spice and menthol build as this extroverted wine gains volume in the glass. Readers can expect a rich, explosive wine with tremendous near and medium term appeal." Antonio Galloni

"Impressive aromas of crushed blackberries and slate with some black peppercorns. Medium body, very fine tannins and a delicious and classy finish. Real syrah, as always. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling

"Syrah is the first red variety to be harvested each year at Fontodi. The 2015 Syrah Case Via opens to an inky dark appearance with purplish and blackish hues. This is a gutsy and savory wine that offers a swift kick of aromatic intensity. Dried blackberry, plum, spice, leather and bitter chocolate peel back in thick layers. Yet, despite the heat of the vintage, you might mistake this wine as being from a cooler growing season. The fruit is tight and focused. The finish offers bright acidity that is not common to Syrah from other parts of the wine world. Those cool Panzano nighttime temperatures and higher altitudes have left their mark here. Give this wine an extra year of bottle aging to allow it to flesh out further. Only 5,500 bottles were produced." Robert Parker

Deep ruby red. Pinot Nero Case Via exudes a typical bouquet of wild berries and pipe tobacco, which blends harmoniously with the barrel seasoning. The soft, characterful taste is based on the power of the tannins and the excellent aroma structure of the Pinot Noir. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2016 Pinot Nero Case Via is a very special expression of the grape that shows darkness and increased concentration in this beautiful vintage. This wine offers a purely Tuscan take on Pinot Nero. It pours from the bottle with a dark garnet color, showing aromas of dried cherry, smoke, tar and road paving. The wine closes with a broad, mid-weight approach. This would be a nice bottle to open for a game dinner with roasted pheasant." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Pinot Nero Case Via is fabulous. In fact, the 2016 may very well be the finest edition of Fontodi's Pinot I have ever tasted. A wine of tremendous aromatic intensity, inner sweetness and delineation, the 2016 Pinot simply has it all. Of course, the highly favorable growing season adds quite a bit of pedigree as well. The Fontodi Pinot is not especially varietal, but it is off the charts beautiful and absolutely compelling. What a wine!" Vinous

    • "Case Via" Syrah IGT 2016 (BIO)

“Case Via” Syrah IGT 2016 (BIO)

Strong dark ruby. Pepper and spice accents, aromas of ripe red and dark fruits and a slightly animal note characterise the precise fragrance. The perfect balance between tannin, silky elements and acidity guarantees a flavour full of character and pithy. SUPERIORE.DE

"A meaty, slightly gamy red, displaying blackberry and blueberry fruit. Licorice, graphite and spicy oak notes add depth as this stays saturated. Long on the finish and balanced, but needs a bit of time to harmonize." Wine Spectator

"The 2016 Syrah Case Via is powerful, dense and rich, with all of the natural intensity of this great Tuscan vintage on display. The Fontodi Syrah is not especially varietal, but it is flat-out gorgeous if taken on its own terms. Today, the Syrah is one of the most backward wines in the range. It clearly needs time for the aromatics to develop, and yet there is so much to look forward to." Vinous

"Fabulous syrah with crushed berries and minerals, together with tea-leaf, lavender and slate character. Medium to full body. Silky and polished tannins." James Suckling

"I love the richness, coupled by the finesse of the 2016 Syrah Case Via. This beautiful expression hits that elusive intersection of elegance and power with bullseye precision. This is an impressive effort that brings forth beautifully balanced aromas of dark fruit, blackberry, spice, leather and earthy terracotta." Robert Parker

    • Chianti Classico DOCG 2015 (BIO) <br>MAGNUM in OWC

Chianti Classico DOCG 2015 (BIO) · MAGNUM in OWC

Chianti Classico by Giovanni Manetti offers a deep bouquet of red fruits and fine spicy notes. The solid taste with long lasting impressions, well extracted tannin and the typical Sangiovese acidity shows clearly recognizable terroir character. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright dense color. Deep, dense smell, closed, youthful and compact. Full and dense on the palate, very fine delicate fruit, broad and balanced, with lively acidity and firm structure. Very attractive, dense Chianti Classico with breed and heart. Very clear, straightforward, long, always fresh and juicy, with excellent power." Weinwisser

"Rich, packed with cherry, leather, dark chocolate and wild herb aromas and flavors. Dense and vibrant, with a long, mouthwatering finish that picks up a graphite edge." Wine Spectator

"Delicate and dusty on the nose with some sweetness of oak spice. Dry, more chewy than some, the oak showing more in the texture than the flavour, which is all about pure fruit. Long, chalky but supple. Reined back but complete." Jancis Robinson

"Fontodi's 90ha of vineyards are located in the Panzano's Conca d'Oro, one of the driest stretches of the Chianti Classico. Owned by the Manetti family since 1968, the property is totally self-sustaining and has been farmed organically since 1990. Exuberantly youthful, it exhibits plush black cherry, thyme and liquorice alongside a refreshing juiciness, despite the warm vintage. The tannins are quite serious and this could use another year in the bottle." Decanter

"The 2015 Chianti Classico is outrageously beautiful. Rich and seductive, the 2015 expresses the radiance of the year while retaining a good bit of translucence and energy. Rose petal, mint, white pepper and crushed flowers add elements of brightness to this classy, super-polished Chianti Classico. More than anything else, though, I am simply blown away by the wine's quality. A decade ago, Giovanni Manetti made darker more concentrated wines. Today, the Fontodi wines speak to finesse. The Chianti Classico is a great place to see that. It was aged in equal parts cask and neutral barrique." Antonio Galloni

"This is a great vintage for Sangiovese, and Fontodi embraces this fact with exuberance and enthusiasm. The 2015 Chianti Classico offers tight and precise fruit characteristics with crisp forest berry, cassis and dried blueberry. The wine is profoundly steady and straight with absolutely no rough edges. This is a lean to mid-weight red with balanced acidity tucked in on the finish." Robert Parker

"The purity of fruit here really makes an impression on you. The nose shines with freshly picked blackcurrants, dark plums, freshly cut herbs, cinnamon, raspberry cheesecake, glazed cherries, orange and lemon rind. The palate is so well-crafted with a silky ball of tannins surrounded by layers of blue and red fruit and enveloping acidity. A long finish. From organically grown grapes." James Suckling

    fontodi

The Azienda Fontodi is undoubtedly one of the flagships of Chianti Classico. Since the Manetti family bought the winery in 1968, the Manetti family has been completely renovating it. Giovanni and Marco Manetti were still young when they started planting new vineyards in the Conca d'Oro. After experimenting extensively with grape varieties, the brothers and sisters decided on a smaller proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in addition to the dominant Sangiovese. As oenologists they engaged no less than Franco Bernabei. Today Giovanni runs the farm alone, his brother takes care of the terracotta business.

Fontodi is a certified organic farm, herbicides and pesticides have been avoided from the beginning. The vineyard hills open to the south like a huge amphitheatre. They are ideally ventilated and drained. The Kalkmergelboden (Galestro) is very rocky and has slate parts. Even the most favourable climatic conditions ensure that Sangiovese can ripen optimally. Fontodi's company philosophy is uncompromisingly focused on quality. Nothing is left to chance. The best grapes from a single vineyard are used for the famous "Flaccianello della Pieve" - a supertoscaner made entirely of Sangiovese. The "Riserva Vigna del Sorbo", a Chianti Classico of the highest quality Gran Selezione, is the second premium wine of the house.

So that the quality of the cellar work can keep up with the work in the vineyard and larger harvest quantities can be mastered, the family had a completely new wine cellar built shortly before the turn of the millennium. Since 1998, the large plants have been matured in cool barriques on the lowest floor. SUPERIORE.DE

"The big news in Chianti Classico these past few months is that Fontodi's Giovanni Manetti has been elected as the new president of the Consorzio Chianti Classico. He takes the reins from Sergio Zingarelli who was president for two very successful mandates that included the introduction of the Chianti Classico Gran Selezione category. I am very happy to hear of this change, mostly because I firmly believe that Giovanni's genteel and non-confrontational personality will allow for a moment of reflection and unity in a growers' association that has seen its share of controversy and infighting over the years. A mandate of tranquility would be the least we should expect of this new presidency. The most we can expect, however, is a stronger voice from growers over mapping and the delineation of subzones within the greater appellation, something I have been advocating. Giovanni Manetti and Fontodi represent the pinnacle of quality that can be achieved in this part of Tuscany. That he has become a symbolic head of the region only brings more prestige and pedigree to an appellation that demands our highest respect and admiration." Robert Parker (2018)
