“Bell’Aja” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2021
The Tuscan flagship winery San Felice, now part of the Allianz Group, has decided to expand further, named Bell'Aja, 40 years after acquiring the Montalcino branch Campogiovanni. In the Bolgheri locality of Le Sondraie, 6 hectares of vineyards with clayey-sandy soils were selected, where mainly Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot were planted over 12 years ago. There are only two wines from this new Bell'Aja appellation, Bolgheri Rosso and Bolgheri Rosso Superiore.
Bright purple, the bouquet full of dark forest berries. The palate is then full of harmony with a delicate acidity and soft, very enveloping tannins. A warm flattering red with profile that fully lives up to its noble origin. SUPERIORE.DE
"A juicy and precise Bolgheri here that shows a crunchy, medium- to full-bodied palate charged with fine, fresh tannins and juicy cherries and berries. Just a hint of chocolate and some herbs. Fruit, especially the purity of the fruit, is the protagonist here. Already enjoyable now." James Suckling

In the small village of Le Sondraie near Bolgheri, the San Felice winery team, which also produces excellent wines in Chianti Classico, Montalcino and nearby Maremma, was able to produce six hectares of the best vineyards a few years ago, called Bell'Aye, aye. The vineyards are located at 100-200 metres above sea level above the well-known Marina di Bibbona on the Tyrrhenian Sea, which is well known to many Maremma tourists.
The typical loamy-sandy soils are mainly used to grow the French Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grape varieties typical of Bolgheri. The south-western orientation of the vines brings many hours of sunshine during the day, which allows the late-ripening varieties to develop well. The sea, which is within sight, brings constant breezes, which aerate the vineyards wonderfully. The hilly, wooded landscape of the nature reserves in the northeast, behind the vineyards, brings clear cooling at night, even in midsummer. Wine lovers know that this offers ideal conditions for an elegant fruit development.
This is how Bell's wines stand out'Aja also characterized by very finely structured, elegant wines. However, with the oenologist Leonardo Bellaccini and the agronomist Carlo Salvinelli, the young and committed local team is also backed by a duo with decades of experience and experience. The wines are aged in French barriques with a maceration period of about three weeks followed by aging.
As brilliant as the wines already present themselves today, one can be curious to see how the development will continue here! SUPERIORE.DE
