“Promis” Toscana IGT 2019
The 2019 edition of the Promis shows all the characteristics of the excellent vintage. On the nose, a lively potpourri of spices, dark fruits, cherries, blackberries and tar. On the palate firm tannin, a wonderful full fruit and lots of persistence, intensity and depth. SUPERIORE.DE
"Rich ruby red. In the nose of fleshy cherries, ripe raspberries, reminiscent of precious wood and delicate graphite in the aftertaste. On the palate with a round fruit core, embedded in firm tannin, a slight saltiness accompanies the drink, minty in the final, powerful." Falstaff
"Described by Gaia as 'a classic vintage of Bolgheri,' this 2019 displays balsamic freshness, ripe, creamy red and black berries, a stony mid-palate tightness, then a spicy, woody, mint chocolate finish. Great balance and oh-so fresh, the integrated tannins work together with the mouthwatering acidity to make this immediately drinkable yet also impressively ageable." Decanter

“Magari” Rosso Bolgheri DOC 2019
Magari is a dark, rich and lush wine that faithfully reflects Gaja's signature in Bolgheri. The 2019 vintage delivers plump and extra supple fruit, dark berries and spices mingle with seamless intensity. The wine offers firm grip and long-lasting power on the finish. There is nothing here not to love. SUPERIORE.DE
"With aeration cherry aromas, flirtatiously underpinned by floral and spice notes; smooth in the mouth, with fine-grained tannins, spicy cherry finish." Vinum
"Starts out rich, yet underscored by vibrant acidity and a line of refined tannins, which provide the support for this red's black currant, black cherry, wild herb and iron flavors. Finishes lean and firm." Wine Spectator
"The 2019 Magari has no Merlot; instead it's composed of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. It's a floral expression, with lavender and violet scents and bright red and black berries. There's a touch of cream on the palate alongside ripe black fruits, black tea and wild strawberry, leading to a slightly spicy finish. Softly textured but well structured, it displays great balance and should improve in the cellar for years to come." Decanter
"This is a firm yet velvety-textured red with blackberry, sage, pine-needle and dried-flower aromas and flavors. It’s medium-to full-bodied with a lovely mouth feel and a long finish. Drink after 2023, when everything will have come more together." James Suckling
"The Ca' Marcanda 2019 Bolgheri Rosso Magari offers a surprisingly subtle side to the three very powerful grapes that make up the blend. These are Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. The bouquet is generous and full, with an intricate embroidery of lavender flower, garden herb, black fruit, spice and tobacco. You might even detect a hint of black olive. Magari is structured and solid but never heavy, and it offers a good sense of fresh acidity that makes for a lively and bright finish. That more acidic vein is neatly folded into ample fruity sweetness and flavor." Robert Parker

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri DOC 2013
Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso with a dark bouquet of black fruits, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. On the palate it is extremely full-bodied, with excellent depth, dense structure and firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already today shows a wide range of its personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"The 2013 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda shows the pedigree of the vintage and the importance this top shelf wine deserves. This is an exceptional blend of Merlot with Cabernets Sauvignon and Franc that is challenging to taste next to the 2014 Magari, which is so radically different. Camarcanda reveals Gaja's signature touch with full and generous fruit layers that are backed by spice, leather, tobacco and lovely succulence. The wine is integrated and smooth with long-lasting favors and beautiful tannin management. Despite its heft, the wine is elegant and silky through and through." Robert Parker
"Very Bordeaux-like, this red offers plum, cherry, coffee, green olive and spice aromas and flavors. Taut and dense, with a long, fresh finish that exudes cedar, sandalwood and green olive notes." Wine Spectator

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri DOC 2016
Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso Superiore with dark bouquet of black fruits, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. On the palate it is extremely full-bodied, with excellent depth, dense structure and firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already shows a wide range of its personality. SUPERIORE.DE
" Opened with delicate cassis and herbal aromas; powerful yet elegant texture with stocky tannins, invigorating acidity, lots of grinding, juice and length, pleases with its fine peppery fruit finale. Gajas Bolgheri interpretation combines cut and fullness". Vinum
"Bright, intense ruby red with a violet tint. Finely drawn nose with notes of red and black currant, fresh, then dark cherry and spices. Round and smooth on the palate, shows a lot of present fruit, opens with fine-meshed tannin, juicy and long, very precise." Falstaff
"Austere in aroma, this red reveals intense flavors of cherry, raspberry, rose and mineral. Firmly structured, yet stays on course with a laser of fruit. Vanilla and toast notes chime in on the finish. Fine balance, length and complexity." Wine Spectator
"The 2016 Camarcanda is pretty, open-knit and gracious in its bouquet, although there is a good bit of Cabernet tannin underpinning the dark fruit. Hints of chocolate, mint, sage, tobacco, licorice and blackberry develop in the glass. The 2016 needs a few years to soften, but it is undeniably attractive and inviting. It's hard to say if it is the vintage, or if the style here has moved towards a bit more freshness as it has at Gaja in Piedmont, but the 2016 Camarcanda does seem to have an extra kick of vibrancy over some previous editions. I can't wait to taste it with some bottle age." Vinous
"Fragrant florals punctuate the nose, ranging from lavender to hyacinth, and there are hints of heather and thyme, too. Citrusy undertones abound. There’s a profundity to the center palate, which is decked out in sheets of dark fruit-flavored, muscular tannins that retain a telltale elegance, as they envelop the peripheries of the mouth. Long and mineral, this is a delightful wine now and will continue to open up as the years go by." James Suckling
"The 2016 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is infinitely smooth and finely textured down to the very last pixel in what is a high-resolution panoramic photograph. The core of the wine is packed tight with an explosion of flavor and concentration with so much dark fruit, spice, tobacco and sweet tobacco that unfurls from deep inside. This wine will have a long and, I am quite sure, very happy aging future ahead. It shows utmost precision and balance, with long persistence and a beautifully polished texture." Robert Parker

“Camarcanda” Bolgheri DOC 2018
Camarcanda is a rich Bolgheri Rosso Superiore with a dark bouquet of black fruits, espresso, chocolate, liquorice and tar. On the palate, it is decidedly full-bodied, with excellent depth, dense structure and firm body. Opulent and long, this wine already shows a wide range of its personality. SUPERIORE.DE
"Promising raspberry and herbal notes flatter on the nose; harmonious texture, wonderful tannic acid framework, has juice and power through to the final. Makes you want more." Vinum
"Dark ruby red with violet edges. Deep, elegant bouquet, rather dominated by red and blue berries and seductive floral notes that almost remind you a little of a Barolo, but only almost, because here the whole thing is framed by cassis and cabernet aromas. On the palate, too, this is not made for power, but rather elegant and well-proportioned. I have rarely had such an elegant Ca' Marcanda in my glass. This is precise, almost feminine, punchy and yet also with the juiciness and melting of a modern Bolgheri coastal blend." Weinwisser
"Very typical for the region of Bolgheri, showing fresh and dried herbs, from sage to mint, with currants and dark berries. It’s medium-to full-bodied with very fine tannins and very attractive length and energy. Very drinkable now, but better in 2023." James Suckling
"Intense, vibrant and juicy, the 2018 Camarcanda features bright red and black fruits, wood and balsamic notes all wrapped up in some soft creaminess. Tight and tangy, the palate features ripe fruits and a mouthwatering saline finish, leaving you wanting more. So fresh and youthful, this will benefit from time in the cellar." Decanter
"Dense and fluid at once, this red delivers plum, black cherry, licorice, olive, bay leaf and spice flavors. Ripe and balanced, with a lingering, spicy, tobacco-tinged aftertaste." Wine Spectator
"The Ca' Marcanda estate does not make a Bolgheri Superiore, although this bottle would qualify as such. The 2018 Bolgheri Rosso Camarcanda is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and you definitely feel those full-throttle varietal aromas with big intensity and clarity. Spicy greenness comes forward as grilled rosemary and lavender essence, but the wine boasts nice depth and dimension, and enough textual richness to smooth it all out. This was a slightly cooler vintage with some sporadic rain showers throughout the summer. These conditions might explain the sharper side of those Cabernet aromas. As the wine moves over the palate, it reveals more substantial aromas of black fruit, spice and baker's chocolate." Robert Parker

Angelo Gaja, the most famous inhabitant of the village of Barbaresco, has long been known throughout the world for his careful and uncompromising preparation of Italian wines of the highest quality and exclusivity. Also in his branch Ca' Marcanda in the Bolgheri area, the prominent winemaker produces elegant wines in his unmistakable style, which combine with the typical local characteristics of the terroir. The wines deliver a polished and modern image of the still quite young Tuscan cultivation zone. The beautiful vineyard in Castagneto Carducci produces wonderful Bordeaux blends from the international varieties Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and a little Syrah. The very high-quality grapes thrive on a vineyard area of about 100 hectares. A large part of the vineyards are arranged in the form of a belt around the winery, in which about 450,000 bottles are closed with corks every year.
The futuristic cellar of Ca' Marcanda is extremely modern and generously designed. It almost completely disappears beneath the surface. The best possible processing of the grapes is guaranteed in the rooms. Gaja had the winery built into a mountain in such a way that it merges completely with the landscape from three sides. In front of it are cypresses, which the owner of the estate has planted in small groups of five trees near all his vineyards. Why he is doing this, he himself does not know exactly. Gaja says, however: "The cypresses will still be there when I'm gone." The full-bodied and fruity Camarcanda Bolgheri, the most expensive product in the range, has the status of a showpiece. The noble drop is prepared from Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and a little Cabernet Franc.
Until Angelo Gaja finally the vineyard hills of the vineyard Ca' Marcanda, he needed some nerve and patience. The negotiations with the former owner of the parcels, which were still very sparsely planted at that time, took a very long time. The names of some wines refer to these time-consuming conversations. Thus the Promis - an IGT wine pressed from Merlot, Syrah and Sangiovese - is derived from the Italian word promessa. The name is intended to sum up the promise of quality and the reward for the care and excellence of creative work. Magari - this IGT consists half of Merlot and equal parts of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc - means as much as perhaps translated from Italian. From this wine name the following question can be deduced with a little imagination: "Maybe he'll sell me the parcels, maybe he won't.". SUPERIORE.DE
"Stylistically, the wines are modern, although according to the still young tradition of Bolgheri. Full fruit, dense, precise use of wood for wines that fully meet expectations."Gambero Rosso
