A grape variety with a long history in Salento, already known at the time of Frederick II. Hand-picked, cold maceration at 4°C for 24 hours, temperature-controlled fermentation in steel. Sicily at altitude. The Insolia vines of Cusumano grow in the hills near Salemi and Monreale – with south-easterly exposure, slow ripening and pure mountain air. Hand-picked at the beginning of September, twelve hours of cold maceration at 8°C, gentle pressing, temperature-controlled fermentation at 18–20°C, four months on the fine lees in steel. Alcamo is one of the oldest and best-known white wine-growing regions in western Sicily. In the hinterland of the province of Trapani, on gentle hills between 150 and 300 metres, Catarratto grows here – the indigenous grape variety that has characterised the white face of this landscape for centuries. The Patti Piccolo estate, home to the Rallo vineyards, is located in this heartland: organically farmed, wind-cooled and influenced by the sea air of the Tyrrhenian Sea. 80% Catarratto, supplemented by 20% other indigenous white grape varieties. Hand-picked at the end of August to the beginning of September, gentle pressing, fermentation in steel at 15 to 16 °C, 6 months in steel, short bottle ageing. Fresh, aromatic, for every day.

The wonderful white wines of Italy are often underestimated or simply too unknown. There are plenty of good ones from South Tyrol to Sicily, in a variety that you have to look for elsewhere.
WHITE WINE FROM ITALY - A CONVINCING VARIETY.
The wonderfully ripening Burgundian varieties and above all the legendary Sauvignon Bianco Quartz from the Terlan winery are an example of South Tyrol. Friuli's spicy cuisine with polenta and mushrooms is complemented by the powerful, long-lasting wines from the Collio, such as (Tocai) Friulano, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio or the regional speciality Ribolla Gialla. Around Verona, a stronghold of delicious Italian white wines, the wine lover will find the wonderful summer wines Lugana and Custoza from Lake Garda, east of Soave, mineral spicy and delicate wine from the extinct volcano.
In the highlands of the Veneto, just a few kilometres north of the Adriatic beaches, the fine Chardonnays and of course Glera (the Prosecco grape), like many white wines from Veneto in general, always make a lot of drinking fun.
Arneis and Gavi from Piedmont, Trebbiano, Vermentino and Viognier from Tuscany or the famous Est! Est! Est!!! from Lazio are always elegant food companions with a pleasant fruit-acid balance. There are autochthonous specialities in every region, here one should try a lot, the whites are developed for some years with (less wood and) more freshness, a good structure and high grape variety typicality.
