Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2020
Dark, concentrated Nero d'Avola with a rich bouquet, inviting, intense raspberry fruit and sweet tannin. A full-bodied red with nice spice and a great value. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Morgante 2020 Sicilia Nero d'Avola is a fun and versatile wine. The wine has a very ripe side with black plum and blackberry confit. The tannins are soft and add volume to a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel." Wine Advocate
"Aromas of crushed plums, black tea, fresh flowers and blackberries. Medium to full-bodied with silky tannins. Notes of coffee and black liquorice mingle with black fruits and berries on the palate. Nicely balanced intensity." James Suckling
"This Nero d'Avola from the southern hills, just a few kilometres from the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, is quite structured. It focuses on blueberries and blackberries and is packed with a tar and chocolate complexity. It has an important tannic structure that is smoothed out by its lively acidity and reactive finish." “Don Antonio” Nero d’Avola Riserva Sicilia DOC 2019
Don Antonio Riserva is the best selection from the Morgante vineyards, where only Nero d'Avola grows. Concentrated and hauntingaromas, very typical of the variety, ripe fruit accompanied by mineral and balsamic notes. Lively and elegant on the palate. The flagship of the winery and a prime example of the "Taste of Sicily". SUPERIORE.DE
"A creamy and round red wine with firm, juicy tannins and lots of aromas of blackberries and dark chocolate. Medium to full body and medium-bodied tannins. Hints of liquorice and asphalt at the end." James Suckling
"This is one of the bottles that symbolizes the Sicilian Wine Renaissance that started a few decades ago. The Morgante 2019 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Riserva Don Antonio is a real beauty with bold lines and big intensity. The inky and extracted style does evoke a winemaking style that was popular during the first decade of the new millennium, but Don Antonio pulls off that style with pride and confidence. There is plenty of black cherry and baked plum with spice, tobacco and tarry smoke over a full-bodied style." Wine Advocate

“Don Antonio” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2013
Don Antonio is the best selection from the Morgante vineyards, where only Nero d'Avola grows. Concentrated and hauntingaromas, very typical of the variety, ripe fruit accompanied by mineral and balsamic notes. Lively and elegant on the palate. SUPERIORE.DE
"Carmelo Morgante makes a fine Nero d'Avola. The 2013 Sicilia Nero d'Avola Don Antonio is one of his best creations so far. The wine is dark and impenetrable and loaded tight with bold fruit intensity. It shows a careful measure of heft and power that leaves a deep impression but that does't feel too heavy or thick. Despite its big bones, the wine maintains its grace and elegance. Deep concentration - driven by oak flavors of spice and chocolate - push the wine forward over the palate." Wine Advocate

The Morgante family had been involved in viticulture for four generations when, in the 1990s, they decided to vinify their own grapes in the deep south of Sicily. Located in the sun-drenched hills of the province of Agrigento, close to the town of Grotte, just over 20 kilometres from the famous Valley of the Temples, the winery has undergone a major transformation since the end of its long history of selling bulk cask wines. The owners have therefore decided to use Nero d'Azur, an ancient indigenous grape variety, without exception in their production.'Avola. The new direction has been accompanied by the pursuit of growth and the highest quality, and the classic family business led by Antonio Morgante has quickly become one of the best and best-known red wine producers on the island.
Working together at Morgante is based on respect, team spirit and trust. Values and characteristics such as passion, enthusiasm, expertise and social responsibility determine the company strategy after the complete restructuring. Nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity are also very important. The entire production process is characterised by the careful handling of scarce ecological resources. In order to give even more impetus to their own high standards and the potential of the terroir, the winegrowing family engaged the star oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as cellar technology consultant in 1997. At about the same time Antonio's sons Carmelo and Giovanni had taken up work on the estate. Since then, the manufacturing processes have been continuously improved.
The Morgante winery, which has grown to a total area of around 200 hectares to date, has widely scattered and sometimes very old vines that grow on slopes between 350 and 550 metres high. The Mediterranean climate with low precipitation, hot days and cool nights, as well as the calcareous and clayey soils offer the Nero d'Avola best growing conditions.
The Morgante Winery regularly cultivates and interprets its precious grape treasure, which has not been increased by acquisitions, with very good results. For this reason, the Weinhaus has been awarded high ratings by international wine critics for many years. Above all, the great elegant red wines of the Sicilian winery, pressed from the pure Sicilian noble vine and sensitively matured in new barriques, are highly appreciated by experts. The latest hussar piece of the winery is the Bianco di Morgante - a white pressed Nero d'Avola. SUPERIORE.DE
