      Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2017

Dark, concentrated Nero d'Avola with a rich bouquet, plenty of ripe fruit and sweet tannin. A great wine with great value for money. SUPERIORE.DE

"Such a wine for so little money is rare. Don Carmelo Morgante, an old man with a wrinkled face and a Sicilian soul, has created with his two sons a dark, dense, berry-fruity wine, with sweet tannin and the inimitable Sicilian spice with salty liquorice." Dr. Jens Priewe

    • "Rosé di Morgante" Nero d'Avola Sicilia DOC 2018

“Rosé di Morgante” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2018

Delicate salmon pink. In the nose fragrant notes of citrus, rose petals and strawberries. In the drink with beautiful minerality, a crisp sweetness and freshness. A good dose of acidity and above all its very low residual sugar predestine it to be a characterful and racy accompaniment to light fish and vegetable dishes. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Bianco di Morgante da uve nere 2018

Bianco di Morgante da uve nere 2018

Bianco di Morgante is a pure Nero d'Avola. The typical Sicilian red grape, however, was vinified without skin contact, and so this very successful and exceptional white wine was created. Pure finesse and elegance. Silky and glossy, this experimental wine captivates with balance, freshness and lightness. SUPERIORE.DE

“Don Antonio” Nero d’Avola Sicilia DOC 2014

Don Antonio is the best selection from the Morgante vineyards, where only Nero d'Avola thrives. Concentrated and penetrating aromas, very typical of the variety, ripe fruits, accompanied by mineral and balsamic notes. On the palate lively and elegant at the same time. SUPERIORE.DE

"Fine-grained tannins are layered with a creamy mix of crushed black cherry, dried thyme and citrus peel notes in this harmonious, medium- to full-bodied red. Long and spiced on the fresh finish." Wine Spectator

"A more reserved and tight nero d'avola in nature than many with aromas and flavors of blackberries, mineral and black tea, Yet, it is always subtle and linear. Medium body and a fresh finish." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Morgante
    Sicily
    Morgante

The Morgante family had been involved in viticulture for four generations when, in the 1990s, they decided to vinify their own grapes in the deep south of Sicily. Located in the sun-drenched hills of the province of Agrigento, close to the town of Grotte, just over 20 kilometres from the famous Valley of the Temples, the winery has undergone a major transformation since the end of its long history of selling bulk cask wines. The owners have therefore decided to use Nero d'Azur, an ancient indigenous grape variety, without exception in their production.'Avola. The new direction has been accompanied by the pursuit of growth and the highest quality, and the classic family business led by Antonio Morgante has quickly become one of the best and best-known red wine producers on the island.

Working together at Morgante is based on respect, team spirit and trust. Values and characteristics such as passion, enthusiasm, expertise and social responsibility determine the company strategy after the complete restructuring. Nature conservation and the preservation of biodiversity are also very important. The entire production process is characterised by the careful handling of scarce ecological resources. In order to give even more impetus to their own high standards and the potential of the terroir, the winegrowing family engaged the star oenologist Riccardo Cotarella as cellar technology consultant in 1997. At about the same time Antonio's sons Carmelo and Giovanni had taken up work on the estate. Since then, the manufacturing processes have been continuously improved.

The Morgante winery, which has grown to a total area of around 200 hectares to date, has widely scattered and sometimes very old vines that grow on slopes between 350 and 550 metres high. The Mediterranean climate with low precipitation, hot days and cool nights, as well as the calcareous and clayey soils offer the Nero d'Avola best growing conditions.

The Morgante Winery regularly cultivates and interprets its precious grape treasure, which has not been increased by acquisitions, with very good results. For this reason, the Weinhaus has been awarded high ratings by international wine critics for many years. Above all, the great elegant red wines of the Sicilian winery, pressed from the pure Sicilian noble vine and sensitively matured in new barriques, are highly appreciated by experts. The latest hussar piece of the winery is the Bianco di Morgante - a white pressed Nero d'Avola. SUPERIORE.DE

"For generations, the Morgante family has embodied the farming profession in its noblest form [...] Exclusively Nero d'Avola is allowed to develop its full character and exuberant intensity."Gambero Rosso
