“Serpara” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOC 2013

Elegant, intense and long lasting, the Serpara is every year. With a delicate floral fragrance and balsamic notes, it is resolute and powerful on the palate, interspersed with elegantly dense tannins and a fine woody note that perfectly highlights the fruit. SUPERIORE.DE

"Rich and smoky on the nose and palate, with roasted plum and fig fruit flavors, accented by pungent notes of cured tobacco, mineral and dusty spice box. Full-bodied and chewy, though harmonious and balanced overall." Wine Spectator

"This top-shelf wine now boasts Superiore status. This is a relatively new addition to the appellation. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Serpara is a full-bodied expression that shows power and directness. That said, efforts have evidently been taken to minimize any impression of heaviness or overextraction. Indeed, the wine glides over the palate with a long, silky texture, imparting fine-tuned aromas of black currant, grilled herb and scorched earth." Robert Parker

"Il Sigillo" - "The Seal" The wines of Gerardo Giuratrabocchetti recall with their names the notary world of his father.

Aglianico del Vulture of enormous beauty. Dark and impenetrable, it lies in the glass, from which opulent tones of dark fruit, spices and stony nuances emanate. Seamless and massive on the palate, structural richness, tannic sweetness, fine fresh acidity. A soulful, very promising drop with a great future. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Il Sigillo is a dark and penetrating wine with a very smoky, dark and brooding personality. Give the wine a few moments in the glass to allow for the enormity of its aromas to come together. The bouquet is laced with thick and penetrating black fruit, cassis, plum and prune. There is a noticeable oak element here with baking spice and Spanish cedar." Robert Parker

    • "Titolo" Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2018

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2018

Elena Fucci's exceptional wine Titolo is already built for the long haul in the "basic variant". It will continue its steady development for at least the next 20 years, so it is a joy to drink at a mature age, especially in magnum format. Dark ruby red, on the nose aromas of ripe red fruits and a fine wood spice. Put together with enormous precision, the wine offers a balanced intensity and a nice level of fruit purity that speaks both for the Aglianico grape and the extreme territory that produces it. Titolo convinces with its fine texture and elegantly integrated tannins. This is a masterful Aglianico performance, just the way we love it. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, dark ruby garnet. Fragrant nose of dried rose, ripe strawberries, a hint of vanilla, honey in the aftertaste, inviting bouquet. Opens softly on the palate with polished tannin, clear red fruit, stretches finely and elegantly over the tongue, compact tannin presses gently on the palate in the finish." Falstaff

"There's no mistaking the masses of pure, mineral-laden, musky Aglianico del Vulture fruit that wafts up from the 2018 Titolo. It's dark, with violet florals and smoke smoldering in the glass. The silky and pliant textures within wash a polished wave of mineral-tinged black fruits and savory exotic spices across the palate with ease, propelled by zesty acidity. Grippy tannins emerge, yet the mouth waters as a salty flourish lingers, along with hints of licorice and lavender. The 2018 won't be the longest-lived vintage of Titolo, but this beauty will excel easily through medium-term cellaring." Vinous

"Plush aromas of violet, juniper, cherry and bramble berry burst on the nose. Medium in weight, there's a driven, ample feel to the juicy red-cherry and blackberry flavors, with bits of tar and pressed rose arising on the midpalate. Yet, throughout the whole experience, bouncy berry fruit and zesty crushed mineral tones remain constant." Wine Enthusiast

The 18-month ageing in terracotta amphora gives this genuine Aglianico speciality from 70-year-old vines greater juiciness, freshness and depth. Intense ruby red with garnet reflections. In the restrained reductive bouquet, spicy hints of pepper and fruit jam, redcurrant and tobacco. In the mouth, great structure, complexity and a certain idiosyncrasy, which, together with a fine minerality, makes it an incredibly drinkable red. SUPERIORE.DE

Dark ruby red, in the Bouquet aromas of ripe, red fruits and a fine wood spice. Elegant, soft, complex and fresh, the taste is exuberant and very flattering. A masterpiece from the Basilicata! SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright purple-ruby. Aromas and flavors of dark plum, black cherry and sweet spices are complemented by a strong balsamic note. Bright and juicy, with a lovely mineral tang and harmonious acidity lifting the steely red fruit flavors and extending them through a long floral finish. Outstanding wine." Ian d’Agata (vinous.com)

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture DOC 2018 · MAGNUM in OWC

"The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo offers a rich and savory interpretation. The wine reveals earthy notes of freshly tilled earth and button mushroom and it also shows autumnal layers of crushed leaf and black currant. Together, these various elements come together in smooth harmony. The fruit element at the back is a good guarantee of the wine's future aging potential. The finish offers solid tannins and earthy grittiness." Robert Parker

"Bright ruby. Piercing aromas of sour red cherry, black currant, violet and lavender. Then dense, sweet and complex, offering very pure mineral, deep plum and smoky berry flavors that have an almost metallic, steely quality. A wine of remarkable balance and finesse, but also powerful and concentrated. Absolutely gorgeous wine confirming the 2013 vintage to be a great one for Aglianico del Vulture." Dark ruby red, in the Bouquet aromas of ripe, red fruits and a fine wood spice. Elegant, soft, complex and fresh, the taste is exuberant and very flattering. A masterpiece from the Basilicata! SUPERIORE.DE

"Here's another great vintage from Elena Fucci, the ascending star of a rising wine region in the deep south of Italy. The 2015 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo shows a dark garnet color and robust appearance. Very characteristic of this extreme territory, this is a dark and penetrating wine with etched mineral notes behind blackberry, plum and savory spice. This vintage presents an even darker quality of fruit. In the mouth, you get iron, blood and dark mineral nuances that are absolutely typical of these darkened volcanic soils." Robert Parker

"Fresh and well-meshed, this is a medium- to full-bodied red, with creamy tannins and a rich note of smoke-tinged mineral underscoring the lovely range of ripe black cherry, dried thyme and fig cake flavors and hints of ground cumin and white pepper. This is round and finely balanced, with a long, lingering finish that echoes the spice and mineral detail." Wine Spectator

"Elena Fucci crafts one single wine. The piercing and focused Titolo exudes incense, violet, dark earth and black cherry. Volcanic soil translates with vibrant energy. Muscular rather than plump and built to last." Decanter

“Serpara” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore DOC 2013 · 6 Bottles in OWC

“Titolo” Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva DOCG 2013 · MAGNUM in OWC

Here comes the first vintage of the new Titolo Riserva, which will be bottled exclusively in 400 numbered magnum bottles and will thus hardly appear in the trade. A highly complex red with the scent of dried flowers, blackberry and crushed rock. The tannins are excellently integrated and this wine is already not only a coveted rarity, but a new star in the firmament of southern Italian wines. SUPERIORE.DE

"From magnum. Lustrous mid ruby. Cherry-laced palate with savoury, exotic, spice notes and liquorice. Gorgeous freshness and bite and length. Wonderful vibrant stuff." Jancis Robinson

"The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Titolo Riserva takes things to a whole new level for Elena Fucci. It opens with an intense display of crushed cherry, exotic spices and sweet herbal tones; as the bouquet evolves, it gains haunting richness and a darker fruit profile with marine-tinged minerality and notes of lavender. Its silky textures coast along a medium-bodied framework, as a polished yet dense display of blackberry and currant gives way to saturating spice and a tightly wound web of tannin. This finishes long, intense and structured, leaving the palate drenched in black fruit concentrate, yet all lifted by residual acids. A stunning example of Aglianico and Vulture terroir." Vinous

"Here's a new discovery that I'd like to broadcast far and near. This Riserva is a new wine from Elena Fucci that was initiated with this vintage. It is a limited-edition wine made only in magnums. In fact, I tasted bottle number 1 of 400 made to write this review. The 2013 Aglianico del Vulture Superiore Riserva Titolo is a dark and savory expression with an evolved and profound bouquet that covers all the bases. It offers dried fruit and blackberry with smoke, ash and crushed river stone. That mineral identity is the wine's most important defining characteristic. Aglianico tends to deliver astringent tannins, but this Riserva shows excellent integration and structural management. A new benchmark wine for southern Italy has just been created." Robert Parker

    About the regionBasilicata

Basilicata is dominated by the extinct volcano Monte Vulture.

Beautiful landscape, surrounded by Campania in the north, Apulia in the east and Calabria in the west, the Basilicata is the instep of the Italian boot. The region borders in the southeast on the Gulf of Taranto, in the southwest on the Tyrrhenian Sea, thus lies deep in the south of Italy and, with a vineyard area of only about 5,000 hectares and a share of only 0.3 percent of the country's total wine production, is one of the smallest wine-growing areas. Around 16 million litres of wine are produced each year from the grapes growing here. More than 80% of it is made from Aglianico, 34% as DOP in the Italian designations DOCG Aglianico del Vulture Superiore and DOC Aglianico del Vulture.

Basilicata presents itself to the traveller as a dramatically beautiful, sometimes bizarre landscape, dominated by the extinct volcano Monte Vulture near the northeastern capital Potenza. In Basilicata there are still traces of the Greek colonists who started settling in the region in 800 BC. The soils in the mountainous highlands consist mainly of volcanic rock and, in lower altitudes, sedimentary rock with clay, limestone and sand, through which numerous watercourses flow. All vineyards are constantly ventilated, either by the onshore winds of the coasts or by the offshore mountain winds. A rather extreme temperature fluctuation between hot days and cool nights helps to develop a wonderful fruit and elegance.

The Barolo of the south and the cultural capital.

The vineyards of Basilicata are fragmented into thousands, often less than one hectare, of vineyards. Most of the vineyards are located to the north at the foot of Monte Vulture and close to the enchanting town of Matera to the east, the cultural capital of 2019, which is always worth a visit. A few hectares lie along river valleys in the south and on the coast of the Ionian Sea not far from Metaponto.

Probably wine was already cultivated here by the Phoenicians. In the sixth century, the Greeks verifiably planted the ancestor of Aglianico - a first-class grape variety that dominates Basilicata today - in the sixth century. Today, the outstanding red wine Aglianico del Vulture is produced from this wine in a DOP zone (divided into the Italian Denominations of Origin DOCG and DOC) located on the Monte Vulture volcano. At a young age, this wine is often closed and rich in tannins. But over the years it matures in the bottle to a velvety, concentrated and deep red wine. Similar to Barolo, therefore it is also called "Barolo of the South" is called. Aglianico del Vulture is one of the best products of southern Italy. A tiny part of it is produced as a rare spumante in Metodo Classico, which must be mentioned as a speciality. SUPERIORE.DE

"With the blossoming of the Italian wine economy since the 80s of the last century, the interest in viticulture in Basilicata has increased again, especially since Aglianico is a highly interesting grape variety beyond the mainstream."Falstaff
