• "Terre Cerase" Rosato Campania IGP 2020

“Terre Cerase” Rosato Campania IGP 2020

Delicate salmon pink. Fine bouquet of sour cherry, small black berries with floral notes. Round and with good volume on the palate, very drinkable and fresh on the finish. Ideal with light fish dishes and buffalo mozzarella. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dusty dried flowers, incense, ginger and hints of peach skin rise up from the 2020 Terre Cerase. This Aglianico Rosato is weightier than expected yet full of lively energy and verve, as crunchy, mineral-tinged orchard fruits cascade across the palate. While a bit shorter than anticipated, the Terre Cerase ends on a delicate and refreshing honeyed floral note that I find quite attractive." Vinous

    • "Cecubo" Rosso Campania Roccamonfina IGP 2014

“Cecubo” Rosso Campania Roccamonfina IGP 2014

Cecubo is a historic cuvée of Abbuoto, Primitivo and Piedirosso, which was already highly appreciated by the ancient Romans. The expressive bouquet has nuances of wild berries, figs, vanilla and incense. The full-bodied taste and the medium body offer an interesting interplay between elegance and power. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2014 Cecubo is a blend of Primitivo, Aglianico, Piedirosso and other indigenous grapes. The wine philosophy shows a two-millennia history that goes back to the time of the ancient Romans. From a cool vintage, this enriched red blend offers plenty of dark fruit and black cherry with elegant notes of green herb and grilled rosemary. The 2014 vintage was cool and humid and is known for slightly thorny and nervous wines. You definitely pick up on those characteristics." Robert Parker

    • "Petrafusa" Taurasi DOCG 2016

      “Petrafusa” Taurasi DOCG 2016

This red classic comes from marly and clayey soils from the high and steep hills near Taurasi not far from the Tyrrhenian Sea. The soils are rich in minerals and salts and give the Aglianico grape a wonderful depth and minerality.

Deep dark ruby with light red reflections. Wild red berries, a delicate vanilla note and exotic tobacco scents on the nose. Velvety and soft on the palate, the texture is fine and elegant, the tannins nicely integrated. A long-lasting red that continues to develop and open up in the glass by the minute. SUPERIORE.DE

"The nose in the 2016 Taurasi Petrafusa is spicy and intense, showing crushed blackberries, laced with an orange citrus zest, crushed stone, hints of sage, and a lifting mintiness. On the palate, soft textures gain richness as they flow across the senses with notes of ripe black fruit, saline-minerals, and sweet herbal tones. The finish is long and structured, showing the tannic clout of the 2016 Taurasi Petrafusa, mixed with resonating acids and lingering dark fruits. This is a wine to lose in the cellar for five to ten years, yet it has the raw ingredients to excel for another decade after." Vinous

      “Fusonero” Taurasi DOCG 2015

The new Fusonero is a delight all along the line: in the bouquet fresh rose scent, spices, red berries, mint and liquorice. About the winemakersVilla MatildeCampania
    Villa Matilde

Severus, fortis, ardens: With these qualities (in English: serious, energetic and fervent) the ancient Falerner, the most famous wine of classical literature, was provided in Latin. The Villa Matilde continues the ancient tradition of the wine that disappeared at the beginning of the last century, not only since the seventies with a modern Falerno, but produces from the mountain area Alto Casertano via Sannio around the provincial town of Benevento to Irpinien many other noble wines of outstanding quality. The Campanian winery in Cellole was founded in the sixties by Francesco Paolo Avallone, a lawyer and lover of antique wines inspired by poets such as Vergil and Horaz. The winery is not only one of the pioneers, but also one of the most interesting wineries in the Caserta region. Love for tradition, respect for the environment, openness to modern developments and technological innovations - these could be the leitmotifs of Villa Matilde and the heirs of the company founder, Maria Ida and Salvatore Avallone, who are endowed with a feverish desire for renewal.

With the acquisition of the Rocca dei Leoni estate in Sannio (2000) and the Altavilla estate in Irpinia (2004), Villa Matilde has developed into a large company with a very varied and wide range of products based on the native varieties Falanghina, Aglianico, Piedirosso, Primitivo, Fiano and Greco. Wine is the subject of ongoing studies at the estate to identify the grape varieties from which the oldest wines in the world were made. The wines vinified there are pleasing due to a very good price/performance ratio. And also the basic wines convince by their longevity and expressiveness.

In 2008, the International Year of Planet Earth, Villa Matilde launched the project "Issue zero" was brought to life. This extensive sustainability project aims to gradually reduce greenhouse gas emissions to zero and to produce wine in a particularly environmentally friendly way. The project covers the entire farm through a variety of measures, from work in the vineyard and cellar to distribution. Collected water is already used today to irrigate and clean the winery. Biomass produced during operation is also reused. In addition to the use of heat-insulating materials, the winery also uses natural ventilation systems to reduce energy consumption. Villa Matilde uses a combination system of photovoltaics and conventional power sources. SUPERIORE.DE

"It is largely thanks to the Avallone family and their 50 years of work at Villa Matilde that the Falerno has gone from a historical curiosity to a living, modern plant. ... Villa Matilde is much more than the mother company of the modern Falerno."Gambero Rosso
