    • Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

      Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2013

Beautifully balanced and classically spicy fragrance. The typical blackberry and sour cherry aromas are also found in the taste. Juicy and rich in extract, full and enveloping, with velvety tannins and plenty of stamina in the finale. SUPERIORE.DE

"This has pure, dark cherry flavours with intense notes of mineral, heather and anise adding depth. The tannins are fine and powdery, while lively acidity carries the finish. This is an absolute pleasure to drink." Decanter

"Good full red. Smoky aromas of flinty red cherry, violet and licorice. Juicy and gripping in the mouth; piercing but balanced acidity nicely lifts and extends the flinty red fruit flavors on the rising, clean aftertaste. Developed a hint of gaminess with aeration which was not much to my liking, and so I lowered my score slightly." Ian d’Agata (vinous.com)

"Aromas of tar, dried cherry and lemon skin. Full body, with tangy acidity and firm tannins. Tight but beautiful. Give it a year or two to open." James Suckling

    • Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012

Brunello di Montalcino Riserva DOCG 2012

2012 was a very good year in Montalcino and the consortium awarded the maximum rating of 5 stars. The bouquet is wonderfully open with aromas of sour cherries and dark forest fruits, on the palate a delicate structure. Compact, well integrated tannin and an impressive finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Simone Bilorsi coaxes gorgeously pure Sangiovese from his organically cultivated vineyards. In years he deems good enough, the Riserva is made exclusively from his holdings in Castelnuovo dell'Abate and aged in Slavonian oak casks. The 2012 is savoury and woody, with nuances of tobacco and fennel lifting ripe cherry fruit. There's plenty of concentration on the palate, though slightly dry tannins need time to resolve. It finishes with lovely florality." Decanter

"Very impressive deep-set dried cherry aromas with a spicy and cedary edge, as well as attractive sweet aged meats and dried flowers. Some peppery nuances, too. The palate has impressive power, draw and cut, The flavors ride deep and long, delivering terrific length." James Suckling

    About the winemakers
    Fornacina
    Tuscany | Montalcino
    Fornacina

A record from 1922 proves that Roger Biliorsi informed a regulatory agency about the sale of a small quantity of wine. This proves that winegrowing in the Biliorsi family has deep roots in the past. After the small Fornacina winery outside Montalcino had initially produced simple table wines, Ruggero Biliorsi began to professionalise production at the beginning of the 1980s and to produce quality wines from then on. The first few hundred bottles of Brunello date back exactly to 1981. Six years later, Ruggero's sons Simon and Mauro took over the business on an equal footing. The two winegrowers are supported in their work by oenologist Attilio Pagli and agronomist Folco Giovanni Bencini. Both of them are strictly monitoring that the traditional rules for Brunello are strictly adhered to.

Azienda Agricola Fornacina has a total vineyard area of only five hectares. Three hectares extend at an altitude of about 400 metres to the south and south-east in direct proximity to the estate, the remaining plots are located on the south side in Castelnuovo dell.'Abate. The planting density is usually 4,500 vines per hectare. Since 2004 the grapes have been grown organically.

In addition to a Brunello - in excellent years it can also be a Brunello Riserva - Rosso and Grappe are also produced on the small country estate. In the meantime, the Brunello estate has long become a household name for lovers from all over the world. The wines are regarded as extremely authentic, cleanly vinified and still affordable for normal earners.

The completely renovated modern wine cellar has two levels, one of which is seven metres below ground level. The winemaking, ageing and bottling areas are separated from the premises used for meetings, tasting and direct sales. To bring the Brunello to maturity, large barrels of Slovenian oak with a volume of 20 to 35 hectolitres are used. SUPERIORE.DE
