Cuvée Real epitomises the elegant signature of Antica Fratta and shows just how fine Franciacorta can be. It is based on Chardonnay and a small proportion of Pinot Nero from the gentle moraine hills of Lombardy. After gentle whole-cluster pressing, the first fermentation takes place partly in stainless steel and partly in small wooden barrels before the wine matures for at least 24 months on the fine lees in the bottle. Delicate straw yellow in the glass with a fine, persistent perlage. The bouquet opens with notes of fresh lemon, yellow apple, some white peach and a hint of roasted hazelnut. The palate is fresh and precise, with an elegant creaminess, fine citrus flavour and balanced structure. The finish is clear, mineral-accentuated and persistent. A Satèn with supple fullness and fine elegance: the 2021 Millesimato edition shows how velvety Chardonnay can be. The grapes come from Chardonnay parcels on moraine hills that harmoniously reflect the cooler climate of Franciacorta. Maturation in the bottle on the lees lasted around 36 months, giving the wine its silky texture and fine complexity. A light golden yellow colour in the glass with only a fine effervescence – typical of Satèn. Ripe yellow fruit, white flowers, a hint of brioche and almond notes on the nose. Clear and soft at the same time on the palate: creamy structure, minerality, elegant acidity and a restrained perlage. The finish is dry, harmonious and lingers for a long time. An uncompromisingly natural Franciacorta: Essence Nature 2020 dispenses entirely with dosage and thus presents itself with clear purity, dry tension and precise fruit. The base consists mainly of Chardonnay, supplemented by Pinot Nero from carefully selected, moraine-rich vineyards. Pale straw yellow in the glass with a continuously fine perlage. Yellow citrus fruit, green apple, white acacia and a delicate hint of brioche are present on the nose. On the palate, this Dosaggio Zero is dry, lively and structured - with lively acidity, mineral freshness and a clear texture. The long finish remains focussed, with a delicate hint of bitter almond. Essence Noir is the prestigious top of the Essence line – an Extra Brut made from 100% Pinot Nero, carefully vinified in white using the classic method with perfect dosage. Around 48 months on the lees give it depth, texture and spicy sophistication. On the nose, aromas of yellow citrus fruit, grapefruit, brioche, toasted almond and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, it is complex and focussed – an ultra-fine perlage carries a dense, yet linear texture. The acidity is precise, the body powerful, yet compact and with terrificinterplay of fruit, flavour and minerality. Quintessence is the flagship of Antica Fratta: a Riserva that is only available in the best years. Monumental depth meets expressive precision. The blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Nero matures for an incredible 60 months on the fine lees before being bottled as an Extra Brut – characterising style, artistic and terroir-connecting. Dense gold in the glass with a fine chalky perlage. The nose reveals notes of candied lemon, grapefruit, brioche, roasted hazelnut and a hint of aromatic herbs. Flavours of apples in caramel, ripe peach and sea salt combine with a subtle minerality in the background. Quintessence is majestic on the palate: powerful, yet with a delicate structure. The fruit appears mature, but always remains vital. The perlage is creamy, the acidity finely and elegantly integrated. The tannin structure and precision form a linear body, supported by great length and cool dynamism. "El cantinù"In the regional dialect, the locals reverently called this plant in the hills between the Lago d'Iseo and Brescia at Franciacorta. Literally translated: the giant cellar. It is almost a tunnel system that Cavaliere Luigi Rossetti dug into the rocks of the hills behind his house more than 150 years ago. The cellar tubes form a Greek cross and have a capacity of six thousand hectolitres of wine. An enormous amount for that time. From the old farmhouse, which probably came from the 16th century, he formed a stately villa and conducted a considerable wine trade here. All this splendour faded after the death of the wealthy owner and the property changed hands several times.
It was not until 1979 that the once flourishing estate was breathed back into life. Franco Zilliani, with the Guido Berlucchi winery probably one of the most important driving forces in the entire Franciacorta area, discovered the run-down estate. The cellar impressed him beyond all measure and so he planned with his team a gentle renovation of villa, cellars and vineyards. The Chardonnay (70%) and Pinot Nero grape varieties dominate, which can be vinified using the most modern methods and are then left to mature and rest in the traditional cellars. The name is supposed to recall the past time, Antica Fratta could be literally translated as "Old undergrowth" Translate. In dialect, however, it was rather the overgrown, old estate that was meant, which nature had already partly reclaimed.
Today, the claim is made here that the "Essence of Franciacorta" which is quite realistic on the Alluvian soils with a high lime content. Mineral base wines become elegant spumanti by means of the classical so-called champagne method (metodo classico), which are regularly celebrated in the highest tones in the wine critique. Perfectionist and in love with every detail, we not only work in the vineyard and vinification, but also in the exclusive bottle and packaging. The artistic capsules are more popular with collectors than some champagne capsules. SUPERIORE.DE
