Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2018 (BIO)
Salcheto's garnet-red sparkling Vino Nobile delights us with fragrant dried plum and a hint of cinnamon and clove. On the palate, much present fruit, fine, sweet melting in the long finish. An authentic and pleasantly elegant organic wine from the heart of the Montepulciano region. SUPERIORE.DE
"Appealing bouquet of black cherries and herbs; powerful texture, the acidity invigorating and in harmony with the tannins, finishes long. Convinces with its powerful fruity style. Goes well with game dishes." Vinum
"Brilliantly shining garnet red. At first smell, rich spicy notes of rosemary, black olives and cedar, then ripe blueberry and cassis. Fills the mouth completely, presents itself in a stoffig woven tannin dress, with good structure, compact, pithy, with some persistence in the finish." Falstaff
"A core of black cherry, plum and blueberry fruit is augmented by earth, tobacco and rosemary in this chunky red, which is balanced, with a light granular quality to the tannins. The herb elements linger, along with the fruit." Wine Spectator
"Salchetto’s launching pad Vino Nobile is crafted from the estate’s organically farmed 15 hectares and is the choicest selection of grapes. Appealing from the get-go, this 100% Sangiovese smells of summer’s bounty with cherry, plum, blackberry and strawberry. Hints of flint, iron and garden herbs provide nuance. The palate is fruit-laden but not heavy, and there is lovely freshness. Dry, linear tannins are sandy in texture and speak to the wine’s serious side." Decanter
"This superb estate is basically a guarantee of great, delicious wines, even in difficult vintages as this savory red proves. It opens with heady aromas of wild berry, truffle, blue flower and dark spice while the racy, polished palate features juicy strawberry, blood orange, licorice and cocoa. It's balanced and focused, with vibrant acidity and taut, refined tannins." Wine Enthusiast

“Salco” Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2016 (BIO)
Racy and seductive Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. Very intense bouquet of fruit, tobacco, herbs and toasted notes. Voluminous and harmoniously round on the palate, silky-sweet tannins and excellent length. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark luminous garnet red with an impenetrable core. Opens in the bouquet on boiled down blackberry, plum roast, also some cinnamon, wrapped in delicate mocha and dried tangerines. Stretches out a comforting dress, powerfully rich in tannin, shows tension in attack and progression, finishes slightly salty with lovely persistence." Falstaff
"A plummy nose, accented by toasted spice and licorice. Full-bodied with fine, velvety tannins. Well structured with lots of flavor that veers into the, bitter, Campari-like zone right at the end." James Suckling
"Darkly floral and alluring, the 2016 Nobile di Montepulciano Salco slowly blossoms in the glass with a display of ripe plums, clove, dried flowers and sweet tobacco. Its creamy textures are complemented by an elegant wave of ripe red and black fruits that flesh out across the palate, leaving saline-minerals and a coating of fine tannin in their wake. This tapers off long and lightly structured, leaving notes of blackberry and spice to linger long. The 2016 Salco is a beauty, yet it could use another year or two of cellaring to integrate its oak." Vinous
"Ripe plum, baking spice, menthol and new leather are just some of the aromas you'll find on this fantastic Sangiovese. On the elegantly structured, delicious palate, notes of ground pepper and licorice accent a core of juicy black cherry and crushed raspberry set against a backbone of taut, refined tannins. Fresh acidity keeps it nicely balanced." Wine Enthusiast
"This features a core of ripe, sweet plum, blackberry and spice flavors, accented by earth, wild herbs and tobacco. Though dense and muscular, there's also a beam of vibrant acidity that keeps this focused and fresh." Wine Spectator

“Vecchie Viti del Salco” Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2016 (BIO) · 3 Bottles in Gift Box
Just 3,500 bottles from the yield of the oldest vines of the Salco vineyard are sold with beautiful labels in a fancy 3-bottle box. In the glass, we are delighted by an extremely elegant Sangiovese with a very harmonious texture and very classic, earthy-spicy notes. SUPERIORE.DE
"Dark luminous, elegant and deep ruby red. Spicy-meaty nose at first, opens on classy rosemary notes, dried tomato, then lovely cherry. Punchy on the palate with tightly woven tannin, tense, salty mineral on the back end, great length." Falstaff
"From Salcheto's 2-hectare Salco vineyard, the Vecchie Viti is a selection of the oldest vines, which are upwards of 30 years old. After ageing in a combination of large cask and small tonneaux, this spends an additional 2 years in bottle before release. Yet it is still very nascent in expression. Smoke and mint emerge slowly weaving through wild berries. There is an irony undertow on the palate which is dense, ripe, concentrated and securely fastened by firm tannins. This is sinewy in its muscle and above all sophisticated." Decanter
"The Salcheto 2016 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Vecchie Viti del Salco (made from organic fruit) occupies that special place between primary and tertiary intensity. The bouquet reveals plum and dried cherry aromas, but it also shows oxidative aromas of tar, spice and a touch of dried fruit or apple skin. This open-knit wine is drinking nicely right now. Made from old vines, this is an accessible wine of personality." Robert Parker
"New leather, forest-berry and rose aromas shape the enticing nose on this radiant red along with a balsamic whiff of camphor. The firm, elegantly structured palate features ripe Marasca cherry, black raspberry, licorice and crushed mint framed in tightly wound, fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It's linear and still youthfully austere, with great aging potential. Drink 2023–2036." Wine Enthusiast

Vino Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG 2017 (BIO) · JEROBOAM 5 Liters in OWC
This garnet-red sparkling Vino Nobile delights us with fragrant dried plum and a hint of cinnamon and clove. Lots of present fruit on the palate, fine, sweet melting in the long finish. An authentic and pleasantly elegant organic wine from the heart of the Montepulciano region. SUPERIORE.DE
"The organic 2017 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano offers a delicate embroidery of red fruit, pressed violet and potting soil. There are subtle highlights of dried orange peel and iron ore as well. This pretty wine prizes fruit purity and simplicity. It offers a naked interpretation of this noble appellation without distractions or too many bells or whistles. The wine is light and streamlined on the palate, but there is enough tannic power to carry it over a meal of pici pasta and rabbit ragù." Robert Parker
"Plum and black cherry flavors are framed by sweet, wood smoke and spice in this supple red. It's firm, with refined and well-integrated tannins and a lingering aftertaste of fruit, earth and spice." Wine Spectator
"Salcheto checks a lot of boxes. The winery is powered by renewable energy, water waste is 100% recycled, there are no added sulphites during vinification and the entire production is certified organic and packaged in light weight bottles. Above all, the Nobile tastes delicious. It is clean and immediately appealing offering complex cedar, earth, tea and balsamic nuances atop forest fruit. Full-bodied and full of character, it is rich yet fresh and seductively textured with polished tannins. A great success for this challenging vintage." Decanter
"Made with organically grown Sangiovese and adhering to certified sustainable practices, this delicious, fragrant red offers enticing scents of dark spice, new leather, wild berry and eucalyptus oil. The elegantly structured palate boasts wonderful fruit and spice, showcasing juicy Marasca cherry, raspberry compote and cinnamon while a licorice note lingers on the close. Silky tannins and fresh acidity keep it nicely balanced." Wine Enthusiast

In the beginning, hardly anyone believed that this forward-looking project could be successful. But oenologist Michele Manelli has succeeded in trimming the Salcheto winery in Montepulciano, named after a stream, to sustainability with a very competent team. In order to keep environmental pollution within very narrow limits, there is no electrical light in the basement, for example. Lighting is provided exclusively via light shafts and mirror systems that direct daylight into even the remotest corners. In addition, the Emilia-based tile expert and visionary estate manager was the first winemaker in the world to have the CO2 footprint of a bottle of wine certified. In addition to climate-damaging emissions, water consumption in the vineyard and cellar is also minimised. In addition, a biodiversity index was designed to monitor the biological quality of the soil and the ecosystem on the estate. The Azienda Agricola Salcheto has been named Green Winery of the Year 2014 by the Wine Guide Gambero Rossofor its pioneering ecological role.
Since it began producing wine in 1987, the winery, which has evolved from a classic farm, has almost exclusively used the Prugnolo Gentile grape variety, as Sangiovese is called in the small West Tuscan cultivation zone. Vinification takes place according to the following method "Governo Toscano". Domestic yeasts are used in the fermentation process and no sulphur is added. Determine in the ripening cellar "dope" and tonneaus the overall picture.
The success of Manellis' ecological adventure, which began in 1997 and was based uncompromisingly on biodynamics, can be seen above all in a wine. In the past, for example, each vintage of the Vino Nobile Salco Evoluzione, accompanied by many experiments, reached a reliably high level. This wine, which comes from the most important vineyard of Salco and is named after a willow tree that is widespread in the growing area, is only sold six years after the grape harvest. Salcheto's wines are authentic, elegant and soft. They have distinctive aromas and perfectly reflect the terroirs of the individual vineyards.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the Montepulciano-based winery presented the "Bordolese Toscanella" a new environmentally friendly bottle. It should be the lightest wine bottle available on the market. Its elegant shape evokes memories of the history of noble Tuscan drops.
The Salcheto Winery is one of the 24 wineries worldwide to be awarded the "Robert Parker Green Emblem" in 2021. This certification is awarded by one of the most important international wine critics' media: Robert Parker's "Wine Advocate". This rare distinction is only awarded to producers who are committed to sustainability, long-term environmental protection and biodiversity. Once a winery has received the award, all of its wines will bear the coveted "Robert Parker Green Emblem". SUPERIORE.DE
"The Salcheto winery, built in 2011, is fully fueled by renewable energy, thanks to geothermic energy to cool temperatures, biomass heating technology, solar panels, reflecting surfaces and shafts that direct sunlight deep into the underground fermentation and aging areas thanks to a complicated exchange of mirrors and tubes. Rainwater and wastewater are collected, purified and recycled, and the entire property is planted to grapevines and local willow trees ("salice" in Italian, from which Salcheto takes its name) to help offset emissions." Robert Parker
