“Abbazia di Rosazzo” Bianco Rosazzo DOCG 2017
Rich cuvée from the white grape varieties of Friuli. The bouquet of white flowers and yellow fruits has a pleasant smoky note. In the taste opulent flavours of yellow and white fruits, dried apricots and honey, the balanced acid gives backbone and structure. SUPERIORE.DE
"The Livio Felluga 2017 Rosazzo Abbazia di Rosazzo is a beautiful choice made from a carefully contemplated blend of Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla. The wine is balanced and bountiful with orchard fruit, peach, honey and Golden Delicious apple. There is so much intensity and brightness here, and each one of the individual grapes fits together with jigsaw puzzle precision. The warm vintage adds softness, extra density and concentration. But the wine is elegant, fresh and mineral-driven nonetheless. If you are looking for a benchmark white from Friuli, look no further." Robert Parker

This name is cult in the Italian wine industry. Even though the next two generations have long since successfully managed the winery, Livio Felluga will probably remain a role model for several more generations. After all, he was the driving force and innovator for the entire Friuli wine region for decades.
When he settled here in the Collio, in Brazzano near Cormons, in 1956, he had two world wars including captivity behind him, the home of his childhood in Istria had sunk into the sea, the wine trade of his ancestors no longer existed and the once proud southern region of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy was unnaturally divided by peace treaties, was thus partly in the "Eastern Bloc" and was largely abandoned by the population. But Livio Felluga saw a future in the hills of Rosazzo, founded a small winery, built an advanced cellar with growth potential, recultivated abandoned vineyards and planted new ones - and over the decades built up one of the most successful and internationally renowned wineries in Italy. There is practically no award that his wines have not received, and he himself has been honoured with honorary degrees, becoming Doctor h.c. of the University of Udine and "Patriarch of Friulian Viticulture". He died in 2016 at the age of 102.
The label he designed himself, which shows the estate's vineyards, lives on, as does his philosophy of quality. He still focuses on a mix of different grape varieties that Livio Felluga found "suitable for the land", whether autochthonous such as (Tokai) Friulano, Picolit, Ribolla Gialla or Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso, as well as "international". For he quickly recognized that Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Bianco and Chardonnay were already at home here before the Second World War, as were Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
The focus is on elegant white wines such as "Terre Alte" from Friulano, Pinot Bianco and Sauvignon or "Illivio" from a selection of the best Pinot Bianco grapes, as well as Chardonnay and Picolit. For some years now, the "Wine of Roses" from the vineyards belonging to the historic Abbazia di Rosazzo Monastery, leased by the Felluga family, has also been included in the range, where old vines from Friulano, Pinot Bianco, Sauvignon Blanc, Malvasia and Ribolla Gialla are cultivated and used only for this top quality wine. With the "Sossó" of Merlot, Refosco and Pignolo, however, Livio Felluga was able to positively surprise many a Bordeaux or Brunello lover in the early 1990s. SUPERIORE.DE
