• Moscato d'Asti DOC 2020

      Moscato d’Asti DOC 2020

Moscato d'Asti is an important part of the culinary tradition in Piedmont. A bright wine full of purity and natural liveliness for festive and joyful moments. straw yellow with green hints, expressive aromas of sage, exotic fruits, apricot and peach. Delicately melting taste, the persistent perlage flatters the palate. A fresh, cheerful wine experience! SUPERIORE.DE

"Grape juice! Yes, there it is, in full display. Elderflower and honey too. Soft and quaffable, with wonderfully unfashionable sweetness. Perhaps there's not enough vinosity for many, but any self-respecting hedonist surely can't resist." Jancis Robinson

    • "Dragon" Bianco Langhe DOC 2020

      “Dragon” Bianco Langhe DOC 2020

Rare white from Vajra's 4-acre boutique vineyard Baudana in Serralunga. Bright, luminous straw yellow. Fresh bouquet of citrus, nectarine, flint and flower meadow. On the palate with fine acid wire, interesting aromatics and medium body, making it a prime companion for exotic and light summer dishes. Fresh finish with beautiful minerality. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Luigi Baudana 2020 Langhe Bianco Dragon is mostly Chardonnay with Sauvignon Blanc, Nascetta and a touch of Riesling. These results are glossy and shiny in this vintage, showing enormous purity and lifted intensity. The bouquet is really very beautiful, with orchard fruit, preserved lemon and an elegant touch of natural rubber that works perfectly. In fact, you can smell the wine even when the glass is placed far away. To the palate, it is silky and smooth, and something you might want to bring on a special fly-fishing trip to pair with your evening dinner of lemon-pepper trout." Robert Parker

      “Claré" Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2020

Don't be surprised: This expressive, fresh red could also be a rosé and in addition it has a very fine, barely noticeable mousseux. With these qualities, this serious fun-maker is a wonderfully refreshing and at the same time extremely tasty Nebbiolo, which with its expressive bouquet of crushed raspberries and strawberries is an ideal food companion or "just" spring or summer wine that can be enjoyed solo without any problems. For us, the wonderfully drinkable Piedmontese answer to the high-quality, dry Lambruschi of Emilia. Pure enthusiasm! SUPERIORE.DE

"This was one of my favorite discovery wines from last year, and it sure is a pleasure to circle back to this G.D. Vajra 2020 Langhe Nebbiolo Claré J.C. today. Showing a luminous and bright ruby color, the bouquet shyly reveals wild cherry fruit and cassis. In a second moment, you taste bitter almond, candied lilac and hints of fresh garden herb or rosemary blossom. It's hard to image such a young wine tasting so good at this unbelievable price." “Coste & Fossati” Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2019 (BIO)

Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fossati is one of the benchmark wines of the appellation. A very dark purple drop with a bouquet of roasted almonds, cherries, tar and chocolate. Voluminous, long and rich on the palate, velvety and juicy with subtle sweetness, the gripping texture is impressive. Already a pleasure today and in a few years undoubtedly a great experience. SUPERIORE.DE

"The organic 2019 Dolcetto d'Alba Coste & Fossati is plump and bright with raw cherry and sweet blueberry. This is streamlined and fresh with all sorts of fun fruit flavors to keep your attention. To the palate, the wine is quite simple, but you still have the textural fiber to pair with fried chicken or breaded veal. There is a dusting of black pepper on the close." Robert Parker

    • Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2019

      Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2019

Excellent Langhe Nebbiolo. Garnet red, pronounced scent of ripe cherries, raspberries, dried rose petal and wild berries. The very juicy yet cool elegant taste shows its silky yet solid flanking tannin and harmonious acidity. A deep red with a lot of persistence. SUPERIORE.DE

"Opening to a medium ruby color, the G.D. Vajra 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo is beautifully balanced to deliver an informal drinking style, but it also hints at the enormous complexity that is inherent to this mighty grape of Piedmont. The bouquet reveals cassis and wild berry, crushed rose and lavender. However, the mouthfeel is precise and linear, thanks to those drying mineral notes." Robert Parker

The pioneer of Riesling on Italian soil is Aldo Vajra. Fascinated by the variety even as a student, he planted the first vines of the White Riesling variety in the Langa. Very pale yellow-green when young, which develops into a strong straw yellow. The aromas of the noble Pètracine also take a varied course. Beginning with peach and apricot, delicate floral and citrus notes follow in his food, while with increasing ripeness, minerality comes to the fore. • "Kyè" Freisa Langhe DOC 2017

      “Kyè" Freisa Langhe DOC 2017

Vajra has not only recognised the potential of the Freisa grape with Kyè, but redefined it. The freshness of the grape variety is somewhat reminiscent of Barbera and has a similar structure to the Nebbiolo grape. An explosive wine with dark fruits, violets, minerals, menthol and spices. Insanely beautiful and multidimensional, the fruit remains primary and the tannins are firm. Elegance all along the line and quite Freisa at the same time, only without the old-fashioned rusticity of this indigenous variety. SUPERIORE.DE

"This wine has developed its own cult following over the years. Named after a local dialectal expression for "who is it," the 2017 Langhe Freisa Kyè is super intense in this hot vintage. The wine draws upon those vintage conditions to present an extra dark appearance, with aromas of Morello cherry, dried blackberry and spice. I always get a subtle note of black pepper with the popular Freisa grape. The mouthfeel is rich, and you can really sink your teeth into this cheerful and unusual red from Piedmont." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Albe" DOCG 2017

      Barolo “Albe” DOCG 2017

Barolo Albe comes from the three parcels Fossati, Castello della Volta and Costa di Vergne. Brilliant and finely shaped on the palate, expressive floral notes merge with bright red fruits, mint and ground berries to create a lively and distinctive Barolo that is endowed with pure energy and class. It is juicy and fruity and a clear buy not only because of its comparatively moderate price! SUPERIORE.DE

"Translucent ruby. Edgy, tarry nose that's very ethereal. Tannic grip and quite a bit of heat on the way there. Floats on the palate - it's certainly not heavy, and has quite enough freshness. Long and relatively open." Jancis Robinson

"Sweet, charming, and attractive with fresh and youthful aromas. Great mid-palate concentration. Multi-layered and meaty with a velvety texture." Decanter

"The 2017 Barolo Albe is exquisite. Bright and beautifully lifted, the 2017 Albe is a wine of pure and total pleasure. All the elements come together so gracefully. Crushed flowers, red berries, mint, cinnamon and lavender are some of the many notes that open in the glass. The 2017 is so nicely done in the way it captures the radiance of the year and the classicism that runs through all these wines. Vineyard sites are Fossati, Costa di Vergne and Le Volte." Vinous

"Fresh and floral aromas with plum, orange peel and some cedar follow through to a medium body with fine tannins and a fresh finish. Very drinkable now, but will improve with age." James Suckling

"Red berry, rose and camphor aromas waft out of the glass. Tangy and delicious, the smooth, full-bodied palate doles out ripe Marasca cherry, fleshy raspberry and hints of ground baking spice framed in taut, polished tannins. It's already accessible but also has good midterm aging potential." Wine Enthusiast

"This is one of the most accessible and trustworthy wines you can buy from Piedmont. Keeping in line with past vintages, the G.D. Vajra 2017 Barolo Albe opens to medium concentration and a very expressive or fruit-forward bouquet. This hot-climate 2017 edition shows a little more ripeness and roundness as is to be expected, but these results are a safe bet nonetheless. Cherry and raspberry aromas are followed by blue flower and pressed violets. Set this bottle aside for medium or long-term drinking." Robert Parker

    • Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba DOCG 2017

Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d’Alba DOCG 2017

The Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba is the most accessible of Luigi Baudana's three Baroli. Precise fruit with wonderful tones of black cherry, plum and cassis. The intensity of the characteristic Nebbiolo liquorice and cola takes a back seat in this wine as the dark fruit is the leading force. This vintage brings the acidity and natural structure to carry the wine for 10 years or more. And so it is not surprising that this Barolo needs a few more years to develop its full class and finesse. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Luigi Baudana 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba reveals a robust and fruit-forward bouquet, with pressed blackberry and plum, followed by licorice, iron ore and some of the candied orange aromas that often come with fruit from Serralunga d'Alba. The wine is tight in terms of structure, and you feel its strength, but ultimately the sensations are polished and smooth. There are no rough edges to these well-managed tannins, and this is especially impressive in an unruly vintage such as 2017." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Barolo del Comune di Serralunga d'Alba may very well turn out to be one of the best wines of the year in its peer group. Dark and wonderfully expressive, yet also light on its feet for a Serralunga Barolo, the 2017 has so much going on. Black cherry, plum, spice, gravel, cured meats, lavender and sage all meld together in this dark yet translucent Barolo." Vinous

SUPERIORE.DE

"Youthful mid ruby. Gorgeous, savoury leafy cherry fruit on the nose. Fragrant, elegant fruit palate. Very poised and sappy and with long coating tannins supporting the fruit. Can be approached now." Jancis Robinson

"Sweet-strawberry, flower, iodine and stone aromas follow through to a full body with firm, polished tannins that show finesse and form." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is pretty, supple and inviting. Some of the tannins need to resolve, but this is a young Barolo after all. The Coste di Rose doesn't have the sensuality of the Albe or the pedigree of the Viole, but it nevertheless has so much to give. Crushed flowers, sweet red berry fruit, mint, crushed rocks and sage are some of the many notes that linger. I won't be surprised if the 2017 is even better than this note suggests once it softens a bit." Vinous

"With fruit from higher-elevation vineyards in the village of Barolo, the 2017 Barolo Coste di Rose is quite elegantly downplayed and fragile. The wine reveals wild berry, cassis and lots of blue flower or lilac. A pretty mineral note recalls crushed limestone and is present through the long and polished mouthfeel. This wine overperforms, considering the challenges of this vintage that saw extreme weather, from spring frost to scorching summer temperatures. These vineyard sites performed better than most." Robert Parker

"Wild berry, menthol and tilled earth aromas mingle with whiffs of dark spice. Linear and savory, the lithe palate is already immediate, featuring juicy raspberry, red cherry, crushed mint and star anise accompanied by taut, polished tannins. Tangy acidity keeps it fresh and bright." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo "Cerretta" DOCG 2012

      Barolo “Cerretta” DOCG 2012

Barolo Baudana from the single vineyard Cerretta presents itself energetic and intense with a scent of black cherries, wild herbs, smoke and tar. Convincing also at the palate with multilayered flavours and textures, strength and structure. The powerful tannin and the stately acidity show unmistakably the style of a classic Barolo. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Barolo Cerretta is richer, deeper and darker than the Baudana. Black cherry, smoke, licorice and dark spices open up first, followed by scents of sage, rosemary and mint that add complexity. In 2012, the Cerretta is more about brawn than finesse. Layers of fruit fill out the wine's ample frame nicely, but above all else, the Cerretta is distinguished for its raw, almost animal, power." VINOUS

"A bright, floral-, strawberry-, cherry- and herb-flavored version, allied to an elegant profile. Picks up mineral and tobacco notes as this cruises to a lengthy conclusion. Though stylish, this has ample grip and complexity." Wine Spectator

"Raspberry compote, star anise, grilled herb and sun baked earth and a whiff of leather are some of the aromas you'll find on this structured Barolo. On the full-bodied palate, chopped mint, licorice and tobacco accent ripe Morello cherry and juicy raspberry." Wine Enthusiast

SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2013 Barolo Cerretta is a bit more lifted, aromatic and gracious in style than the Baudana. Sweet red cherry, pine, mint, herbs, licorice and wild flowers give the Cerretta its distinctive lifted personality. In 2013, the Cerretta is a wine of pure and total grace. There is plenty of power, tension and structure, all elements that will need time to resolve." VINOUS

Convincing also at the palate with multilayered flavours and textures, strength and structure. The powerful tannin and the stately acidity show unmistakably the style of a classic Barolo. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Cerretta vineyard is distinguished by thick red clay soils at its lower elevations. This segment of the vineyard provides the power and structure that holds this wine so firmly together. Indeed, that sense of power and dark fruit momentum outpaces the delicate and nuanced characteristics that are generally attributed to the cooler and immediate 2014 vintage. The 2014 Barolo Cerretta is a powerhouse wine—packed tight with dark fruit, spice and licorice—that should hold steady over the next 10-20 years of cellar aging." Robert Parker

"Gravitas and pure power are the signatures of the 2014 Barolo Cerretta. The black cherry, plum, lavender, sage and menthol notes add to an impression of dark, brooding intensity to go with the wine's vertical sense of structure. This tannic, massive Barolo is likely to require a number of years in bottle to become approachable." VINOUS

    • Barolo "Baudana" DOCG 2014

      Barolo “Baudana” DOCG 2014

Fresh, sparkling ruby garnet. Opens with notes of pickled anchovies, then leather and dark wild raspberry. At the palate a lot of close-meshed, stoffiges tannin, pulls through rapidly, fine fruit, in the final firm pressure. Put away for some more years. SUPERIORE.DE

"Leasing and then acquiring the Luigi Baudana estate in Serralunga has given the Vajra family access to more fine vineyards. The result in 2014 is a delight, with a sweet, generous raspberry nose that shows both zest and charm. Medium-bodied, this is made in a gentle style that's not extracted but has sufficient tannin to give some grip. A firm mid-palate shows solid fruit and good persistence, followed by a long, balanced finish." Decanter

"Flavors of cherry, currant, eucalyptus, wild herbs, tar and iron are supported by dense tannins in this red. Though firm and compact, this remains long and detailed on the finish." Wine Spectator

"Located beyond the sprawling Fontanafredda estate, Baudana has consistently maintained its reputation for top-notch Nebbiolo. In fact, those who farmed this vineyard never had difficulty selling its fruit. Barolo Baudana was one of the first crus to be exported successfully into foreign markets. The site sees sandy limestone mixed with veins of heavier blue clay. You get both elegance and structure as a result. The 2014 Barolo Baudana reveals black and purple fruit characteristics with ethereal tones of smoke, tar and spice on the finish." Robert Parker

"A darker side of Nebbiolo emerges from the 2014 Barolo Baudana. Powerful but also supple, the 2014 is a wine of pure, arresting beauty. Sweet red cherry, kirsch and floral notes meld together in a striking, textured Barolo that is a joy to taste, even at this early stage." VINOUS

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

Barolo Ravera from Vajra is an earthy, rich wine with a robust tannin structure and a well measured acidity - an impressive wine, whose climax in the next few years can already be looked forward to. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tasted blind. Surprisingly dark ruby for this vintage. Brooding richness on the nose. Plenty of sour cherry on the palate and firm, somewhat drying tannins. This is still very youthful, and unsettled." Jancis Robinson

"This rich red is laced with cherry fruit and feels approachable now. Offers firm underlying tannins, along with accents of mineral and tobacco. Balanced, with a long finish." Wine Spectator

"A stark contrast to the Bricco delle Viole, Vajra's 2014 Barolo Ravera is a tannic, powerful wine. There is quite a bit of power and depth, but the tannins are also rustic and a touch rough around the edges. The 2014 is going to need time to settle down." VINOUS

"The 2014 Barolo Ravera is indeed a fuller and more structured expression. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, iodine and mineral nuances. Ravera is a low-altitude vineyard from an estate that is specialized in high-altitude Nebbiolo farming. That added power is well suited to this thinner vintage." Robert Parker

"Brilliant, medium ruby. Seems austere and quite closed in mouth and nose. Only with air a scent of red berries and floral hints develops. At the palate classic tannin structure, connected with a slowly intensifying, very pure fruit. Exceedingly vital, lots of inner tension and minerality." Weinwisser

"The 2013 Barolo Baudana opens with striking, beguiling aromatics. Deep, pliant and sensual on the palate, the 2013 exudes fruit intensity to the point the tannins are nearly buried. Intense savory and mineral notes provide an underpinning of virile intensity that builds into the super-expressive finish." VINOUS

"Seems open and forthcoming for the cherry, black currant and floral aromas and flavors, but this red has some punch too. The dense tannins provide support, while tobacco, green olive and mineral notes add depth. Terrific length." Wine Spectator

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2017

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2017

Ravera is the most powerful of Vajra's formidable Barolo line-up every year. Radiant, intense ruby red. Very intense, fruity nose with notes of ripe wild raspberries, blackberries, also some dark currant juice, a little laurel in the background. Ravera presents itself very juicy in attack and course, shows a lot of crunchy cherry fruit, opens with fine-meshed, present tannin, which is very well integrated. The final has a long reverberation. SUPERIORE.DE

"Transparent garnet. Broad, sweet, chestnut sort of aromas on the nose. Big-shouldered and quite concentrated. Very complete and with a minerally undertow. This is a bit of a charmer with great presence. Even a hint of red-cherry fruit that seems to be overpowering the (considerable) tannin. Beautiful balance in this evidently serious wine." Jancis Robinson

"The G.D. Vajra 2017 Barolo Ravera shows solid build and consistency, with more rich and saturated fruit compared to the other Barolo releases from this historic estate. The Ravera cru offers broad shoulders with a tight textural fabric. That powerful approach makes a good sounding board for the wine's dark cherry, plum, dark mineral and spice flavors. This is more of a red meat wine." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Barolo Ravera is gorgeous right out of the gate. I am so impressed with its depth and pedigree. Rose petal, sweet red berry fruit, lavender, spice and dried herbs are all finely delineated in a Barolo of tremendous presence. Orange peel, cinnamon and cedar develop later, adding shades of dimension. Time in the glass brings out the wine's stature and power. The 2017 is going to be fascinating to follow. Today, it is just breathtaking. That's all there is to it." Vinous

"Notable for its purity of fruit, this Barolo features black cherry, black currant, violet, mineral and tar aromas and flavors. Harmonious and lithe, with an underpinning of mineral that lingers through the dynamic finish." Wine Spectator

"Very floral with pure fruit, such as cherries and raspberries. It's full-bodied with ultra fine tannins that are energetic and focused. The center palate shows such wonderful fruit character, yet it's weightless and energetic." James Suckling

"From the township of Novello and from what is now widely recognized as one of the denomination's top vineyard sites, this is just stunning, offering intense aromas of wild berries, new leather, floral notes, camphor and grilled herb. The delicious, structured palate shows finesse and power, featuring ripe red cherry, blood orange, cedar, licorice and mineral notes suggesting tangy iron. Noble tannins provide support. Reflecting the vintage, this won't need years to come around but will also age well for at least another decade." Wine Enthusiast

    • Barolo "Baudana" DOCG 2017

      Barolo “Baudana” DOCG 2017

Black cherry fruit, smoke, wild herbs, liquorice and tar create a compelling backdrop of aromas, flavours and textures as this dazzling, energetic Barolo opens in the glass. The intense final is accompanied by delicate rose petals, lavender and a subtle mineral-salty vein. Its stable tannin framework awaits a few more years of bottle ageing, as is typically the case with a classic Serralunga Barolo. A wine full of energy and intensity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Youthful mid ruby. Perfumed and inviting with earthy hints and concentrated fruit. Generous mouthful of cherry, which at the same time is very contained and with a good dose of acidity. Very fine, persistent tannins underneath clinging to the fruit. Finely balanced and nervy at the same time." Jancis Robinson

"Luigi Baudana is the historical brand name of this estate, managed by the Vajra winery. The wine is fermented and aged in big Slavonian oak casks. The first impression amazes on the nose for its freshness. pepspice, restrained fruits and pomegranate juice, without any oxidative touch. The fairly natural and refreshing acidity balances well-packed but austere tannins, and represents the character of this cru. It's assertive on the finish at present, but although it needs more bottle ageing, the texture is remarkable." Decanter

"A chewy, tannic wine with dark berry, walnut and some tar. Full-bodied and flavorful. Firm and intense yet fine-grained tannins. Give it two or three years to come together." James Suckling

"From a historic vineyard in Serralunga d'Alba, the Luigi Baudana 2017 Barolo Baudana takes an extra minute to open and ultimately reveals a consistent and compact package of aromas centered on dark fruit, rusty earth and crushed flowers. It's quite nice the way the wine holds its cards closer to its proverbial chest. It lets its guard down one little piece at a time. There is some sweetness, too, and the wine feels weighty and powerful. I'd definitely give it a few more years of cellar aging so that the wine finds time to focus and flesh out. Some 3,500 bottles were released." Robert Parker

"The 2017 Barolo Baudana is such a gorgeous wine. It, too conveys the power of Serralunga, but with a bit less heft than is typically the case. Sweet dark cherry, iron, cedar, rose petal, mint and white pepper give the 2017 its effusive, inviting personality. This is such a tremendous showing." Vinous

"Balsamic aromas of camphor and cedar mingle with rose and leather on this full-boded, savory red. Structured and delicious, the juicy palate is still youthfully austere, delivering ripe Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry, baking spice and licorice framed in noble tannins before a black tea finish." • Barolo "Cerretta" DOCG 2017

      Barolo “Cerretta” DOCG 2017

Deep red with ruby reflections. Ethereal-sweet aromas of black cherry on the nose. Cerretta from the single vineyard of the same name is even juicier and tighter on the palate than Baudana. Its character is fresher and more primary in the overall line of all Vajra Barolo, but clearly harder and with initially young and dry tannins. This densely packed Barolo gains sweetness and complexity with aeration. Like the Baudana and Bricco dell Viole bottlings, it demands several years of patience from its owner, which will then be exuberantly rewarded. Not a wine for beginners, if I may say so. SUPERIORE.DE

"Youthful ruby. Minerally, smoky/earthy cherry nose with a hint of exotic spice and black tea leaves. Lots of concentration but at the moment more subdued than their 2017 Baudana. Gorgeous, supple fruit and rich, truly powerful tannins that are still a little demanding right now. Concentrated, austere and still closed, but with lots of potential." Jancis Robinson

"A first wave of aromas is focused on wild rose and crushed flowers. More robust tones of ripe cherry, rusty earth and dark spice follow in time. This edition of Cerretta is surprisingly delicate and fine, going against almost everything we know about robust fruit from Serralunga d'Alba and the powerful 2017 vintage." Robert Parker

"Forest floor, prune, leather and pipe tobacco aromas make their way to the forefront. Showing the heat of the vintage, it's full-bodied and concentrated, offering cherry marinated in spirits, licorice and the warmth of evident alcohol. Tightly knit, enveloping tannins provide firm, velvety support." Wine Enthusiast

"A dark, somber wine, the 2017 Barolo Cerretta shows the more potent, brooding side of Serralunga. Black cherry, gravel, smoke, cured meats, cloves and menthol add to an impression of virile intensity and pure power. Readers will have to be patient here, but there is certainly a ton to look forward to. This is another impressive showing from Baudana and the Vajra family." Vinous

"This is really perfumed and enticing, offering intense floral and citrus character with some cherry. It's full-bodied, yet tight and very reserved, with a long, racy finish. Fantastic depth of fruit here. Outstanding purity, too. Better in 2025." James Suckling

    • Barolo "Bricco delle Viole" DOCG 2017

Barolo “Bricco delle Viole” DOCG 2017

Bricco delle Viole is a progressive and fruit-driven single-vineyard Barolo that comes to us well-contoured but not at all angular or bulky. Deep red cherry and plum notes with lovely hints of classic floral notes and some rosewood. On the palate, it is sensual and engaging, its open, fruity, classic bouquet also giving it a delicious component that makes it irresistible. SUPERIORE.DE

"Transparent pillar-box red. Powerful nose of dried something. Cherries? Rose petals? Perhaps both. Super-fresh, despite the alcohol, with such great presence in the mouth. It's not nearly ready but it's clearly destined for great things. Sweet and chewy with a strong mineral undertow. Jewel-bright fruit. Real lift but more powerful than ethereal. Even slightly pungent with a whiff of cordite. Really refreshing health juice. Great stuff." Jancis Robinson

"Aromas of ripe strawberries and flowers follow through to a full body with firm, chewy tannins that are silky and very polished. That palate is very clear and precise. Attractive, if chewy finish." James Suckling

"The 2017 Barolo Bricco delle Viole is classy and elegant to the core. Medium in body and wonderfully translucent, the 2017 captures all of the finesse of this site. Naturally, the 2017 also shows the ripeness of the year, but it retains its sublime sense of poise. The 2017 Bricco delle Viole is one of the clear stand outs of the year." Vinous

    About the winemakersG.D. VajraPiedmont
    G.D. Vajra

The noble wines of G.D. Vajra with their elegance and beauty are a reference for a world-famous royal wine. The winery has been in existence since the 1970s and is located in Vergne, the highest village in the western Barolo area. The Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera varieties are cultivated there, as well as the Freisa and even the white Riesling grapes, which were important in the past, in strict compliance with fundamental ethical values. The initials of the winery G.D. Vajra stand for Giuseppe Domenico, Aldo Vajra's father, who signed the founding documents of the winery in 1972, as Aldo himself was still a minor. His wife Milena joined the company in the 1980s and together they managed to bring the initially small company with today's top locations Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Vergne, Fossati and La Volta to world fame in Barolo production. In the meantime, Aldo's children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro are entrusted with the work in the company.

The grapes of G.D. Vajra have always been grown close to nature. As they mature only late, the authentic, strong character and multi-faceted wines produced in the estate are of a cool elegance. Its aromatic finesse is brought into balance with a lively but well-proportioned acidity in beautifully modern and functionally designed cellars. The wines are traditionally characterized by a longer maceration and are predominantly aged in Slovenian barrels. In this Piedmontese winery, values such as wholeness and harmony are written in capital letters.

In 2009, the Vajra family, modest, hospitable and not by chance left their vineyard portfolio of the highest quality with the acquisition of the Baudana company in Serralunga d'Alba upgraded again. Here, in the heart of the Barolo area, two top-quality plants thrive in the top locations of Baudana and Cerretta.

The fact that the wines produced in the G.D. Vajra winery with great personal commitment - above all the Bricco delle Viole - are first-class is confirmed again and again by ratings in wine guides such Gambero Rossoas , Robert Parker, Antonio Galloniand also in the Veronelli Guide. SUPERIORE.DE

"It is a true amusement park of varieties and areas that Aldo and Milena Vajra have built over the years. Few wineries in the Langa region have succeeded in experimenting successfully with less common types of wine such as Riesling Renano, Pinot Nero and Freisa, while maintaining admirable stylistic coherence for the great classics. (...) With the acquisition of the Luigi Baudana company, the Baudana and Cerretta di Serralunga plots are now also part of the family business."Gambero Rosso 2015
