    • "Dragon" Bianco Langhe DOC 2019

      “Dragon” Bianco Langhe DOC 2019

Rare white from Vajra's 4-hectare boutique Baudana Winery in Serralunga. Scent of flintstone and flower meadow, fresh fruity body and elegant mineral finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Luigi Baudana 2019 Langhe Bianco Dragon is a blend of 46% Chardonnay, 25% Sauvignon Blanc, 24% Nascetta and 5% Riesling. The wine is luminous and bright with bright citrus, nectarine and passion fruit. This is a wholeheartedly open and pleasurable blended white that has the balanced acidity and the fun, aromatic character to pair with exotic dishes with lemongrass, basil or cilantro. The finish is lean and compact, and the wine ends with a taste of salty mineral." Robert Parker

    • Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2018

      Nebbiolo Langhe DOC 2018

Typical Langhe Nebbiolo. Garnet red, distinct scent of wild berries. The very fruity yet cool-elegant taste shows its silky yet solid flanking tannins and harmonious acidity. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright ruby with dark tendency. Hearty nose of ripe cherries, raspberries, dried rose petals, subtle hints of beetroot, hazelnut in the aftertaste. On the palate very clear with juicy acidity and pithy fruit, opens an elegant umbrella, deep, with emphasis." Falstaff

"Piquant raspberry and smoky black cherry nose. Sweet and ripe with black fruits, some baked earth and ripe tannins." Decanter

"The 2018 Langhe Nebbiolo emerges from a parcel in Sinio. Dark fruit, spice, earthy notes and a good bit of tannin give the Vajra's Langhe Nebbiolo a decidedly brooding, powerful feel and quite a bit more seriousness than is typical at this level. Sweet red berry fruit, mint and spice add freshness alongside bright acidity as the 2018 opens up in the glass. This is such a pretty and expressive wine." Vinous

    • Pinot Nero Langhe DOC 2017

      Pinot Nero Langhe DOC 2017

Vajras Pinot Nero is a selection of the best grapes and a wine of great personality. Fresh and floral-scented, complex, deep fruit with fluid flavour development and saucy minerality. Elegant, long and very expressive. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Langhe Pinot Nero is a pretty wine that offers an intriguing mix of varietal flavors with a distinctly Nebbiolo-leaning sense of structure. Sweet red cherry, hard candy, rose petal, mint and exotic spice are all laced together in this expressive, mid-weight Pinot. I am generally not a huge fan of international varieties in Piedmont, but the 2017 is undoubtedly a very pretty wine with tons of sheer allure." Vinous

"The G.D. Vajra 2017 Langhe Pinot Nero shows a classic portrait of the grape with those beautiful floral and wild berries aromas very much intact. The aromatic intensity and purity of this wine is its biggest attribute. Raspberry, violet, lavender and candied orange peel come into focus. The wine is silky and mild in terms of mouthfeel with a very lovely, light-weight approach. A ruby-colored light shines from within." Robert Parker

    • "Pétracine" Riesling Langhe DOC 2019 (BIO)

“Pétracine” Riesling Langhe DOC 2019 (BIO)

The pioneer of Riesling on Italian soil is Aldo Vajra. Fascinated by the variety even as a student, he planted the first vines of the White Riesling variety in the Langa. Very pale yellow-green when young, which develops into a strong straw yellow. The aromas of the noble Pètracine also take a varied course. Beginning with peach and apricot, delicate floral and citrus notes follow in his food, while with increasing ripeness, minerality comes to the fore. On the palate it is harmonious and precisely structured, almost austere, fascinatingly complex and long. Great ageing potential! SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Kyè" Freisa Langhe DOC 2016

      “Kyè" Freisa Langhe DOC 2016

Vajra has not only recognized the potential of the Freisa grape with Kyè, but has redefined it. The freshness of the grape variety is somewhat reminiscent of Barbera and has a similar structure to the Nebbiolo grape. An explosive wine with dark fruits, violets, minerals, menthol and spices. Incredibly beautiful and multidimensional, the fruit remains primary and the tannins are firm. Elegance all along the line and yet all Freisa, but without the ancient rusticity of this indigenous variety. SUPERIORE.DE

"I have a thing for the Freisa grape and am very excited to be in front of this sample. The 2016 Langhe Freisa Kyè is named after a colloquial phasing of the question "who is it?" (or "chi è?" in Italian), underlining some of the mystery and allure surrounding this native grape. Freisa is a local favorite, but it is relatively unknown outside of Piedmont. This expression from the fine team at G.D. Vajra opens to a nicely saturated color with dark ruby or garnet highlights. The bouquet offers black cherry, dark fruit and accents of spice or white pepper. Primary fruit is the protagonist and so is that pretty freshness. Fruit comes from vineyards planted closest to the winery at the lower part of Bricco delle Viole. The wine is fermented in stainless steel (to lock in those fresh berry aromas) and is aged in large Slavonian oak casks for 26 months." Robert Parker

"The 2016 Langhe Freisa Kyé is a gorgeous wine, but it is going to need at least a few years in bottle to be at its very best. Scorched earth, smoke, tobacco, grilled herbs and black pepper give the Kyé its distinctive brooding personality. As always, the Kyé is a powerful, deep wine, but, as in recent years, the style is a bit more restrained than the more explosive wines in the past. The Kyé emerges from a parcel in the Vajra family's Bricco delle Viole home vineyard." Vinous

    • Barolo "Albe" DOCG 2016

      Barolo “Albe” DOCG 2016

Brilliant and finely sculpted on the palate, expressive floral notes meld with bright red fruits, mint and ground berries in a vibrant, distinctive Barolo imbued with pure energy and class. Barolo Albe comes from three parcels: Fossati, Castello della Volta and Costa di Vergne. It is juicy and fruity and due to its comparatively moderate price a clear buy! SUPERIORE.DE

"Vajra's Barolo Albe is bright, floral and wonderfully lifted in 2016. Sweet tobacco, cedar, blood orange, mint, licorice, dried red cherry and sage give the 2016 lovely savory brightness to match its mid-weight structure. Gracious and light on its feet, the Albe has so much to offer." Vinous

"Such a delicious expression of the balanced and drinkable 2016 harvest with fresh red cherries, strawberries and rose perfume. The palate has bright, fine and fleshy texture with a super fine, chalky and plush delivery of ripe, supple and concentrated cherries. So complete." James Suckling

"If you were to consider the entire portfolio of wines made in the Barolo appellation, this wine always stands in its own little corner. Albe is a brand on its own, and it represents one of the most versatile, accessible and well-priced Baroli to emerge from the appellation. The G.D. Vajra 2016 Barolo Albe sets off on the right foot, offering forthcoming intensity with forest fruit, wild cherry, crushed stone and blue flowers. Winemaking is straightforward in stainless steel, and the wine finishes in Slavonian oak casks." Robert Parker

"Elegant and expressive, this red evokes cherry, raspberry and floral notes, aligned to a refined structure. This is balanced and leaves an aftertaste of fruit, tobacco and iron." Wine Spectator

"Aromas of woodland berry, new leather, camphor and pressed rose waft out of the glass. Juicy and delicious, the chewy palate doles out succulent Marasca cherry, crushed raspberry and white pepper. Polished tannins and fresh acidity give it an immediate appeal but this also offers several years of drinking pleasure." Wine Enthusiast

Excellent site Barolo Cerretta, very strong and elegant, with the classic spicy cherry bouquet, very beautifully articulated. Full fruit of forest berries on the palate, pleasantly silky tannin and a good acidity form the opulent taste structure. SUPERIORE.DE

    • Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

      Barolo Ravera DOCG 2014

Barolo Ravera from Vajra is an earthy, rich wine with a robust tannin structure and a well measured acidity - an impressive wine, whose climax in the next few years can already be looked forward to. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tasted blind. Surprisingly dark ruby for this vintage. Brooding richness on the nose. Plenty of sour cherry on the palate and firm, somewhat drying tannins. This is still very youthful, and unsettled." Jancis Robinson

"This rich red is laced with cherry fruit and feels approachable now. Offers firm underlying tannins, along with accents of mineral and tobacco. Balanced, with a long finish." Wine Spectator

"A stark contrast to the Bricco delle Viole, Vajra's 2014 Barolo Ravera is a tannic, powerful wine. There is quite a bit of power and depth, but the tannins are also rustic and a touch rough around the edges. The 2014 is going to need time to settle down." VINOUS

"The 2014 Barolo Ravera is indeed a fuller and more structured expression. The bouquet opens to dark fruit, iodine and mineral nuances. Ravera is a low-altitude vineyard from an estate that is specialized in high-altitude Nebbiolo farming. That added power is well suited to this thinner vintage." Robert Parker

    • Barolo "Baudana Cerretta" DOCG 2012

      Barolo “Baudana Cerretta” DOCG 2012

Barolo Baudana from the individual vineyard Cerretta presents itself energetic and intense with a scent of black cherries, wild herbs, smoke and tar. Convincing also on the palate with complex aromas and textures, strength and structure. The powerful tannin and the imposing acidity unmistakably show the style of a classic Barolo. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2012 Barolo Cerretta is richer, deeper and darker than the Baudana. Black cherry, smoke, licorice and dark spices open up first, followed by scents of sage, rosemary and mint that add complexity. In 2012, the Cerretta is more about brawn than finesse. Layers of fruit fill out the wine's ample frame nicely, but above all else, the Cerretta is distinguished for its raw, almost animal, power." Antonio Galloni

"A bright, floral-, strawberry-, cherry- and herb-flavored version, allied to an elegant profile. Picks up mineral and tobacco notes as this cruises to a lengthy conclusion. Though stylish, this has ample grip and complexity." Wine Spectator

"Raspberry compote, star anise, grilled herb and sun baked earth and a whiff of leather are some of the aromas you'll find on this structured Barolo. On the full-bodied palate, chopped mint, licorice and tobacco accent ripe Morello cherry and juicy raspberry." Wine Enthusiast

    About the winemakersG.D. VajraPiedmont
    G.D. Vajra

The noble wines of G.D. Vajra with their elegance and beauty are a reference for a world-famous royal wine. The winery has been in existence since the 1970s and is located in Vergne, the highest village in the western Barolo area. The Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera varieties are cultivated there, as well as the Freisa and even the white Riesling grapes, which were important in the past, in strict compliance with fundamental ethical values. The initials of the winery G.D. Vajra stand for Giuseppe Domenico, Aldo Vajra's father, who signed the founding documents of the winery in 1972, as Aldo himself was still a minor. His wife Milena joined the company in the 1980s and together they managed to bring the initially small company with today's top locations Bricco delle Viole, Coste di Vergne, Fossati and La Volta to world fame in Barolo production. In the meantime, Aldo's children Giuseppe, Francesca and Isidoro are entrusted with the work in the company.

The grapes of G.D. Vajra have always been grown close to nature. As they mature only late, the authentic, strong character and multi-faceted wines produced in the estate are of a cool elegance. Its aromatic finesse is brought into balance with a lively but well-proportioned acidity in beautifully modern and functionally designed cellars. The wines are traditionally characterized by a longer maceration and are predominantly aged in Slovenian barrels. In this Piedmontese winery, values such as wholeness and harmony are written in capital letters.

In 2009, the Vajra family, modest, hospitable and not by chance left their vineyard portfolio of the highest quality with the acquisition of the Baudana company in Serralunga d'Alba upgraded again. Here, in the heart of the Barolo area, two top-quality plants thrive in the top locations of Baudana and Cerretta.

The fact that the wines produced in the G.D. Vajra winery with great personal commitment - above all the Bricco delle Viole - are first-class is confirmed again and again by ratings in wine guides such Gambero Rossoas , Robert Parker, Antonio Galloniand also in the Veronelli Guide. "It is a true amusement park of varieties and areas that Aldo and Milena Vajra have built over the years. Few wineries in the Langa region have succeeded in experimenting successfully with less common types of wine such as Riesling Renano, Pinot Nero and Freisa, while maintaining admirable stylistic coherence for the great classics. (...) With the acquisition of the Luigi Baudana company, the Baudana and Cerretta di Serralunga plots are now also part of the family business."Gambero Rosso 2015
