“Campo San Giorgio” Rosso Conero Riserva DOCG 2016
The Montepulciano vines for this powerful and terroir-rich Montepulciano grow on the Campo San Giorgio vineyard at an altitude of about 150 m on deep, chalky clay soils. The wine is unfiltered and unfined and ages for 12 months each in small and large wooden barrels. The label represents the historic design of the Rosso Conero of the 1970s and the impressive result is the calling card of a long family tradition and expertise in viticulture.
Deep dark ruby red with violet and garnet reflections. In the Bouquet very expressive with fruit-accentuated stylistics after cherry, plum, liquorice and herbal spice. On the palate fresh and firm, the delicate extract sweetness gives it harmony and the silky tannins lead into a warm, very long finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Aromas of blackberries, black peppercorns, rosemary, cloves and smoked meat. It’s medium-to full-bodied with firm, fine-grained tannins and fresh acidity. Chewy and flavorful, with a savory, saline and spiced finish. Lingering wild-herb notes. Delicious." James Suckling

The Bernetti family, with its wine company Umani Ronchi, has acquired an excellent reputation as one of the leading wine producers in the Marche region, far beyond the borders of the region and the country. Today the wine house, located in Osimo in the province of Ancona and represented by a branch in Castelbellino, is managed by Massimo Bernetti and his son Michele. In addition to the approximately 200 hectares of land in the Marche between the Apennines and the Adriatic coast, the successful winegrower duo also owns a further 30 hectares of vineyards in Abruzzo. It is the declared aim of the estate owners in both wine regions to bring out the specific terroirs as well as the local grape varieties Montepulciano and Verdicchio with their typical characteristics convincingly.
In the beginning the winery was a typical farm. The company, founded by Gino Umani Ronchi and taken over a few years later by the couple Massimo Bernetti and Annalisa Bianchi, did not become a pure producer of fine wines until 1968. But the family had also been active in the wine business in the previous ten years. After Massimo had taken over management in the 1970s - a time of operational growth and numerous investments - Michele took over the management in the 1990s. For a long time the wine house cooperated with the world-famous oenologist Giacomo Tachis, creator of the legendary wines Sassicaia and Tignanello, before he was replaced by Giuseppe Caviola from Piedmont in 2002 in his capacity as consultant.
In the Marche, Umani Ronchi has very beautiful vineyards in the renowned production areas of Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico and Rosso Conero. The vineyards are under the care of the agronomist Luigi Piersanti and are partly cultivated according to organic principles. The vineyards in the Esino valley extend over the municipalities of Cupramontana, Montecarotto, Maiolati Spontini and San Paolo di Jesi or are located in the hinterland of Monte Conero. Working in the vineyard, Umani Ronchi's team benefits from the results of research carried out by scientific institutions such as the University of Ancona into the most modern agricultural production conditions.
Most of the drops from the large and reliable range come from exposed individual layers. Umani Ronchi's precise and well-defined wine style combines modern and classic elements, respecting the tradition and typicality of the local grape varieties. What goes into the bottles is elegant and full of finesse, the fruit is never overemphasised. SUPERIORE.DE
"The winery of the Bernetti family has been internationally present for many years. However, their technically perfect bottlings, blessed with extraordinary temperament and depth, do not bend to the markets, but rather point them in the right direction."Gambero Rosso
