    • Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2016

      Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT 2016

Brancaias pure Cabernet Sauvignon is the new wine from Barbara Widmers Maremma-Dependance. Deep dark ruby red with an animating scent of dark berries, coffee, cocoa, eucalyptus and spices. In the drink then notes of green pepper, fine sweetness and juiciness. The tannins are polished and prepare the way for a long, silky finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Dark, rich ruby. Spicy nose, echoes of black elderberries. On the palate very fresh, juicy, still looks young." Falstaff

"This wine sees fruit sourced from the warm and sunny Maremma area on coastal Tuscany. The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon shows an inky dark appearance with dark garnet color saturation. It offers a fine and chiseled aromatic profile with dark berry fruit followed by spice, anise seeds and an unmistakable balsamic note that reminds me of eucalyptus oil. This is a mid-weight expression of the grape that is both accessible and easy to drink straight out of the gate." Robert Parker

"Shows beautiful, blue fruit, as well as lavender, crushed stones and violets. Medium to full body, lithe and endearing tannins and a fine, tangy finish." James Suckling

"The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon, from Brancaia's vineyards in Maremma, expresses a good bit of varietal character and overall nuance. Fleshy, dark and seductive, the 2016 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Today, it is very pretty and delicious." VINOUS

Attractive Riserva with classic aromas of sour cherries, sour cherries, dark forest fruits and subtle liquorice. Elegant fruit and delicate structure on the palate, compact, well integrated tannins and impressive long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Flattering notes of forest fruits, pepper and dried flowers; balanced texture, acidity and tannin in harmony, long and extremely polished the final. Vinum

"In the fragrance initially still with present, wood-aged notes of ripe cherry, chocolate coated raisins and mint. Quite modern, flattering announcement with notes of wild berries, pepper and vanilla. On the palate a gripping Sangiovese with fine, light cherry fruit, firm structure and polished tannin structure, the freshness giving acidity and the tannin cut ensure a balanced texture. The final shows a racy length and is extremely polished." Weinwisser

"Bright and lightly austere with a dried mushroom and blackberry character throughout. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Silky texture." James Suckling

"Rich, boasting black cherry, plum and iron flavors matched to dense tannins. Shows intensity and power, with lively acidity driving the long finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2013 Chianti Classico Riserva hits all the high notes expected of this historic denomination. The wine is brimming with cherry fruit and luscious darkness with spice, leather and unsweetened chocolate. The blend is 80% Sangiovese and 20% Merlot, and the wine is aged in medium toast barrique (both new and neutral) for 16 months. Like the other successful interpretations from this classic vintage, this expression reveals an impressive sense of balance. Attractive Riserva with classic aromas of sour cherries, sour cherries, dark forest fruits and subtle liquorice. Elegant fruit and delicate structure on the palate, compact, well integrated tannins and impressive long finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"Intense dark ruby. A lot of dark berry fruit, blackberry and liquorice, with fine cherry. Smooth in base and anterior course, opens with non-slip tannin, then dries slightly in posterior course." Falstaff

"Mid ruby with orange tinges. Firm nose of cherry and with hints of tar making it initially look a little older than it actually is. Any doubts are dispelled by the full cherry fruit palate with bags of muscular tannins." Jancis Robinson

"The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva offers lovely aromatic lift to the play off the bright, red-toned Sangiovese fruit. Hints of sweet tobacco, crushed flowers, mint and spice develop in the glass. Best of all, the Riserva will drink well upon release. Silky tannins add nuance to the polished finish." Antonio Galloni

"Deep and dark, boasting black cherry, blackberry, tar and sweet spice notes. The firm structure is both supportive and refreshing, lending balance as this plays out on the long aftertaste." Wine Spectator

"Brancaia usually adds a little Merlot (20%) to this wine to soften and flesh out the crisp tightness that comes from Sangiovese. The 2015 Chianti Classico Riserva is a beautiful wine that plays its best cards in terms of mouthfeel. The bouquet is beautiful as well, with dark fruit nuances that are layered tight. You get wild cherries and red rose petal in generous supply. The mouthfeel is light to medium in texture, but it shows more smoothness and silkiness compared to many of its peers." Robert Parker

"A spicy Chianti Classico Riserva showing dried red plums, dried roses, mahogany, forest floor, cedar, white truffles, wet earth and leather. But it’s all so fresh and delightful. The palate’s so focused and refined as the firm, wonderfully savory tannins dance between layers of dried fruit, which remains so pure due to the wealth of punchy acidity. Hints of orange rind on the long finish. Like a baby Brunello." James Suckling

    • "Ilatraia" Rosso Maremma IGT 2015

      “Ilatraia” Rosso Maremma IGT 2015

Ilatraia was born in 2002 and is a true Supertuscan from international grape varieties that ripen optimally in the dry summers of the Maremma, even without irrigation.

Deep dark ruby. Opulent nose of red berries, pleasant smoky note and fine herbal spice. On the palate opulent and round, the fine tannins give the wine a delicate but certain structure and the necessary seriousness until the long, soft finish. The well integrated wood and the fruit of the Cabernet grape find an exciting symbiosis here in a very harmonious way with the rather strict and taut Petit Verdot style. The wine gets better with every edition and 2015 was a perfect year with an optimal climate and ideal ripening point of the grapes. SUPERIORE.DE

"Velvety, rich ruby violet. Very clear, fruity nose, with notes of blueberry, dark currant and forest raspberry. Round and supple at the base, opens with fine-meshed tannin, polished and surprisingly fresh, with an aftertaste of sweet enamel." Falstaff

"The 2015 Ilatraia is a dark, fleshy wine. Blackberry jam, espresso, grilled herbs, menthol, licorice and lavender infuse this fleshy, wonderfully resonant Maremma blend. Powerful and racy in the glass, the 2015 offers plenty of near and medium-term appeal. Depth and a real sense of gravitas infuse this succulent red from the Tuscan coast."Antonio Galloni

"The 2015 Ilatraia is a drop-dead gorgeous blend of 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Petit Verdot and 20% Cabernet Franc with all fruit coming from Brancaia's Maremma vineyards along the Tuscan coast. This warm vintage has shaped an exuberant and intense red wine that hits the palate with lavish richness. The complex bouquet is composed of dark fruit elements that are contrasted seamlessly against spice, sweet tobacco and campfire ash. Yet the mouthfeel is never too heavy or overextracted. There's a lot to enjoy here." Robert Parker

"Aromas of black licorice and blackberry. Blueberry, too. This is so complex. Full body, extremely silky and polished with lovely tannins. Deep and long. It seems powerful and rich yet ends so balanced and refined. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and cabernet franc." James Suckling

    • "Il Blu" Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

“Il Blu” Rosso Toscana IGT 2015

Impenetrable, brilliant ruby red with a play of aromas of blackcurrant and blueberry as well as fine toasty notes. The soft, balanced body offers a perfect interplay between the excellent tannin structure and the alcohol component. In the highly convincing finale a clear, very pleasant spice becomes apparent. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright, intense ruby. Opened with notes of pickled cherries and blackberries, some tobacco. Juicy at the base, much ripe berry fruit, presents much pithy, dense tannin, firm and gripping." Falstaff

"The 2015 Il Blu is powerful, deep and fleshy with generous dark cherry, plum, mocha, new leather and spice overtones. In this vintage, Brancaia is quite open and approachable. Plush fruit and soft, inviting contours add to the wine's sheer appeal." Antonio Galloni

"This is the wine that put Brancaia on the map of Tuscany's most celebrated estates. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese and a smaller percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon (fermented with indigenous yeasts in conical steel vats and aged in new and neutral barrique for 20 months), the 2015 Il Blu is a wine that enthusiastically embraces the energy, heat and sunshine of the vintage. The fruit is dark and slightly sweet with aromas of black cherries and dried blackberries. Those flavors deliver rich, soft intensity. The wine is not quite full-bodied, because the mouthfeel is elegant and finessed, but it does deliver lasting power, freshness and polished tannins." Robert Parker

"The balance and beauty to this wine shows real Super Tuscan character. Aromas of flower, dark berry and licorice follow through to a full body, ultra-fine tannins and a flavorful and focused finish. A blend of cabernet sauvignon, merlot and sangiovese." James Suckling

"This red is sleek and focused, with blackberry, black currant and tobacco aromas and flavors that cut like a laser through the linear frame. Delivers fine harmony and a long finish." Wine Spectator

"This beguiling blend lingers and demands time. Intense inky fruits and herbal notes leap from the glass. Morello cherry, some sweet oak and chocolate echo along the finish, guided along by a beam of palate-extending, ringingly ripe acidity. It's a complex and age-worthy wine with immaculate length and balance." Decanter

    • "Il Blu" Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

“Il Blu” Rosso Toscana IGT 2016

Impenetrable, brilliant ruby red with a play of aromas of blackcurrant and blueberry as well as fine toasty notes. The soft, balanced body offers a perfect interplay between the excellent tannin structure and the alcohol component. In the highly convincing final a clear, very pleasant spice becomes apparent. SUPERIORE.DE

"Tight and firm with very pretty dark fruit and earth character. Medium to full body, silky tannins and a fresh finish. A blend of sangiovese, merlot and cabernet sauvignon." James Suckling

"Brancaia's Il Blu is gorgeous in 2016. Fresh, perfumed and beautifully lifted, the 2016 strikes a captivating balance between power and finesse. Red cherry, flowers, mint, cinnamon and blood orange all give the 2016 brightness and vitality, and yet there is plenty of the richness readers have come to expect from this wine as well. The 2016 is one of the more polished, nuanced vintages of Brancaia I can remember tasting." Vinous

"This blend has one of the most impressive track records of a modern Tuscan blend that I can think of. The 2016 Il Blu is a beautifully balanced and precise blend that pits the freshness and authenticity of Sangiovese against the softness and fruitiness of the Merlot. Although the Sangiovese plays a supporting role in the blend, its influence and signature go far to creating the overall identity of this special wine. It's a very nice effort to celebrate with a grilled T-bone." Robert Parker

    • "Ilatraia" Rosso Maremma IGT 2015 <br>MAGNUM in OWC

“Ilatraia” Rosso Maremma IGT 2015 · MAGNUM in OWC

Depth and a real sense of gravitas infuse this succulent red from the Tuscan coast." Antonio Galloni

    About the winemakers
    Brancaia
    Tuscany | Chianti
    Brancaia

Il Blu has a firm place among Italy's top wines and is already considered a classic by many wine lovers. The noble wine comes from Casa Brancaia in Castellina. In 1981 the Swiss couple Brigitte and Bruno Widmer acquired the vineyard. Just two years later, its Chianti Classico (now Riserva) took first place at a major tasting session. Brancaia has long been one of the top Tuscan producers. The wines are always at the forefront of tastings and are highly praised by international wine critics.

The rapid initial success was followed by a steady expansion of activities. In 1989 the Widmer couple bought another vineyard (Poppi) in Radda. And nine years later a third branch was founded southeast of Grosseto (Maremma). This is where the top wine Ilatraia is pressed. Since 1998, Barbara Widmer, a graduate oenologist and co-owner, has been responsible for wine production and vineyards. She will be advised by the excellent oenologist Carlo Ferrini.

The elegant wines are aged in two state-of-the-art cellars (Chianti Classico and Maremma) for at least twelve months in French barriques and tonneaux. The flagship Sangiovese variety is dominant in Chianti Classico Riserva and Chianti Classico, but also in Il Blu and the base wine Tre. In contrast, it has not been represented in Ilatraia at all since the 2009 vintage.

Environmental protection is a top priority in Brancaia. The owner works according to the guidelines of integrated production. The vineyards are protected in the long term because, for example, the carbon dioxide emissions of the vehicles have been significantly reduced. SUPERIORE.DE
