Ilatro – is the Tuscan name for the wild olive tree (Phillyrea latifolia), which grows in the maquis surrounding the Brancaia estate in the Maremma. An unassuming plant that nobody plants and nobody tends – that is simply there, part of the landscape, part of the scent of this coastal region in hot weather and with the sea breeze. The Ilatraia takes its name because it comes from this place. Not from a vineyard that could have been anywhere. But from here. 40% Petit Verdot, 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Cabernet Franc on sandy loam soils, without irrigation, beneath the Tuscan coastal sky.

2022 was warm and expressive – a vintage that made full use of the natural ripeness of the Maremma soils and gave Ilatraia its deepest, most structured expression. 18 months in barriques, half of which were new, followed by at least a year in bottle. A deep, luminous garnet red. Expressive and multi-layered on the nose: black cherry, cassis, Mediterranean scrub herbs, tobacco, a hint of sea salt. Full-bodied and structured on the palate, with precise, well-integrated tannins and a long, elegant final. Maremma – named after the wild olive. SUPERIORE.DE
