    • Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2019

Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2019

The grapes for this elegant Blauburgunder originate from the warm and well-ventilated hilly areas on the Ritten and in Oberleitach. In the glass a rich ruby red. Fruity and flowery bouquet with nuances of red cherries, raspberries and plums, underlined by a fine hint of violets. On the palate full, fruity with a wonderfully velvety texture; fine tannins lead to a medium-strong, elegant finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Blauburgunder Pinot Nero from Kellerei Bozen is incredibly pretty in the glass, displaying a brilliant translucent ruby color. It’s fresh and floral, showing peppery herbs, giving way to bright cherry-berry fruits with a hint of youthful reduction. The textures here are quite pleasant, silky yet with a balancing blend of saline-minerals and tart acids that add a tactile feel. Spicy red berry fruits resonate through the close, along with a hint of fine tannin that promises a few years of positive evolution." Vinous

    Things to know about
    Pinot Nero

"The diva among wines" say many winegrowers to the Pinot Noir, whose best specimens from Burgundy already cost a few hundred euros. The grape variety is also a component of the finest sparkling wines, from Champagne to Franciacorta. And because it places such high demands on soil, climate and winemakers, it is also a challenge and sometimes simply a hobby of winemakers all over the world. Therefore it is not surprising that you can find them in California as well as in New Zealand or Sicily.

    The globetrotter gives the diva.

But the best Pinot Nero in Italy come from South Tyrol and Oltrepo Pavese (Lombardy). In South Tyrol, Pinot Noir, the old Austrian name, is often still written on the label - in Germany, by the way, it is called Pinot Noir. The highest sites of South Tyrol are stocked with them. Here, no attempt is made to emulate a Romanée Conti, but this unique terroir and micro-climate is worked out (above all Martin Foradori von Hofstätter). This results in very finely structured, fruity-elegant Pinot Noir with often fascinating fruit-acid play and endless reverberation and just as great ripening potential.

From the mountains to the lakes.

Some very exciting experiments with Pinot Nero also come from Oltrepo Pavese (border between Piedmont and Lombardy) and Tuscany. However, one of Italy's largest growing areas is of course where the finest spumanti are produced using the Metodo Classico method: Franciacorta in Lombardy in the south on the Lago d'Iseo. Almost always as a cuvée with Chardonnay, many of the Franciacorta DOCG's grandiose masterpieces are not hidden in blind tastings behind the more famous colleagues from France. SUPERIORE.DE
