    • Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2019

Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2019

The grapes for this elegant Blauburgunder originate from the warm and well-ventilated hilly areas on the Ritten and in Oberleitach. In the glass a rich ruby red. Fruity and flowery bouquet with nuances of red cherries, raspberries and plums, underlined by a fine hint of violets. On the palate full, fruity with a wonderfully velvety texture; fine tannins lead to a medium-strong, elegant finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2019 Blauburgunder Pinot Nero from Kellerei Bozen is incredibly pretty in the glass, displaying a brilliant translucent ruby color. It’s fresh and floral, showing peppery herbs, giving way to bright cherry-berry fruits with a hint of youthful reduction. The textures here are quite pleasant, silky yet with a balancing blend of saline-minerals and tart acids that add a tactile feel. Spicy red berry fruits resonate through the close, along with a hint of fine tannin that promises a few years of positive evolution." Vinous

Blauburgunder Turmhof Alto Adige DOC 2018

The grapes for this Pinot Noir come from three sites at an altitude of up to 980 metres. Different soils of moraine deposits, limestone gravel and sand give this ruby red wine its distinctive character. In the nose blackberries, raspberries and cherries. On the palate it delights with power and finesse, its harmony and elegance inspire us until the final. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 Blauburgunder Turmhof (Pinot Noir) mixes ripe black cherry and strawberry with hints of mint, grilled sage and earthy soil tones. It shows remarkable depth in its fleshy textures, along with pure red berry fruit and sweet spice, all offset by a mix of minerals and youthful tannin. Rosy florals resonate, as residual acids create a clenching sensation on the long and lip-smacking finale." Vinous

"The Les Crêtes 2019 Valle d'Aosta Pinot Nero is a vibrant and expressive wine that shows an extra sleek and slender side of this delicate grape. As it warms in the glass, the wine reveals forest cherry fruit, blue flowers and lots of honey. (I am reminded of chestnut honey or one of the darker, viscous kinds.) • "Mimuèt" Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2017 (BIO)

“Mimuèt” Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2017 (BIO)

The name "Mimuèt" (after my taste) comes from the Ladin language. Convinced that South Tyrol offers the best conditions for the Pinot Noir grape variety, Alois Lageder paid particular attention to it at a very early stage. His aim is to produce wines with precision, lightness and filigree structure. Garnet red with ruby red reflexes. Pinot Noir Mimuèt smells of ripe black cherries, flowers and spices. On the palate elegant, almost light-footed, with a complex, soft finish. SUPERIORE.DE

Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2018

Pinot Nero Riserva with feminine scent of sweet fruits, flowers, minerals and spices, slim and delicate on the palate, with great balance. The Pinot Noir is a diva with high demands on soil and climate and demands a lot of attention in the cellar. For Riserva quality, the vine must also be at least ten years old and thrive in an excellent location. The Riserva of St. Michael-Eppan must not shy away from the international price/quality comparison. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Red Angel" Pinot Nero Venezia Giulia IGT 2017

“Red Angel” Pinot Nero Venezia Giulia IGT 2017

Bright ruby red colour and the typical vinous, slightly grassy, floral bouquet of the Pinot Noir. The taste is elegant, very balanced and refined, pleasantly full-bodied and fresh. SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2017 Red Angel Pinot Nero from Jermann bursts from the glass with vibrant waves of ripe strawberry, sweet red florals and spice. It's remarkably balanced, fresh and energetic, with a bright display of red fruits and tactile mineral tones. Pretty violets and a hint of confectioners' sugar linger on the deeply alluring finish." Vinous

"Pretty and delicious pinot noir with strawberries with a light, almost smoky edge, as well as hints of bitter orange. It's medium-bodied with round, juicy tannins and a tangy finish. Lively and yummy." James Suckling

"Closed in a screwcap bottle, the Jermann 2017 Pinot Nero Red Angel on the Moonlight shows a slimmed-down and elegant physique but leaves a lasting impression, especially in terms of the purity and punchy intensity of its aromas. Wild cherry, rose, bitter almond, candied orange peel and pressed violet lift from the bouquet. This is a delicate and graceful edition to enjoy with a typical stewed rabbit from Friuli." Pinot Nero Langhe DOC 2016

A fascinating Pinot Nero with the structure of a Nebbiolo. Fine cherry aroma with well-dosed extract sweetness, in addition rose petals, mint and some Asian herbal spice. The wine is dancing on the palate and with noble restraint, it reveals its finesse and structure at the latest with the third sip and with the medium strong finish. This is a wine for Pinot fans as well as lovers of profound, sublime style - and definitely love at second sight. SUPERIORE.DE

    Things to know aboutPinot Nero

"The diva among wines" say many winegrowers to the Pinot Noir, whose best specimens from Burgundy already cost a few hundred euros. The grape variety is also a component of the finest sparkling wines, from Champagne to Franciacorta. And because it places such high demands on soil, climate and winemakers, it is also a challenge and sometimes simply a hobby of winemakers all over the world. Therefore it is not surprising that you can find them in California as well as in New Zealand or Sicily.

    The globetrotter gives the diva.

But the best Pinot Nero in Italy come from South Tyrol and Oltrepo Pavese (Lombardy). In South Tyrol, Pinot Noir, the old Austrian name, is often still written on the label - in Germany, by the way, it is called Pinot Noir. The highest sites of South Tyrol are stocked with them. Here, no attempt is made to emulate a Romanée Conti, but this unique terroir and micro-climate is worked out (above all Martin Foradori von Hofstätter). This results in very finely structured, fruity-elegant Pinot Noir with often fascinating fruit-acid play and endless reverberation and just as great ripening potential.

From the mountains to the lakes.

Some very exciting experiments with Pinot Nero also come from Oltrepo Pavese (border between Piedmont and Lombardy) and Tuscany. However, one of Italy's largest growing areas is of course where the finest spumanti are produced using the Metodo Classico method: Franciacorta in Lombardy in the south on the Lago d'Iseo. Almost always as a cuvée with Chardonnay, many of the Franciacorta DOCG's grandiose masterpieces are not hidden in blind tastings behind the more famous colleagues from France. SUPERIORE.DE
