“Maria Novella” Rosato di Pinot Nero dell' Oltrepò Pavese DOC 2020
Delicate salmon pink. Fine, delicate bouquet with notes of pomegranate, peach and apricot. Full and rich on the palate with a delicate bitter note and an invigorating freshness on the finish. This rosato is full of character and anything but arbitrary, and for us it is the perfect wine for a Mediterranean lunch on a balmy summer day. SUPERIORE.DE
"Bright old pink. On the palate with delicate wild berry fruit and a hint of spice, reminiscent of Amarena cherries in the finish. On the palate with fine melting and blueberry core, well-integrated acidity, in the aftertaste delicately bitter and melting." Falstaff

“Fallwind” Pinot Nero Rosé Alto Adige DOC 2021
The evening fall winds of the Mendel Mountains give the entire terroir of the St. Michael-Eppan Winery its characteristics. They ensure cool nights, they give the grapes those extraordinary qualities that are characteristic for the aroma, the unmistakable freshness and the longevity of the wines. The fall wind is the natural force that blows over the vineyard every day, positively influencing the climate and supporting the valuable work of the cooperative winery's winegrowers.
The Fallwind wines are ambassadors of their terroir and reflect the strengths of the growing region in a unique way. Most of them are selected sites where viticulture has been practised for centuries. Strict quality guidelines, low yields, intensive manual work in the vineyard as well as gentle and individual maturation in the cellar make them what they are: Wines full of character, precise and unique, which convince every connoisseur with their varietal characteristics.
The Rosé of San Michele Appiano is a single-varietal Pinot Noir from selected vineyards with a predominantly southern exposure around the municipality of Eppan. Fresh, fruity, juicy and elegant rosato. And in addition, a very successful, delicate and finely fruity Pinot Nero, one of the oldest and most valuable grape varieties in the world. SUPERIORE.DE
"Pale copper red with light reflections. In the nose delicate aroma of raspberry and strawberry. On the palate, fruity and juicy, slightly tannic, with long tension." Falstaff
"Pale apricot color with cherry, cantaloupe-melon, peach and lemon aromas. Hints of rose petals, too. Fruity and fresh, with a medium body and crisp acidity. Dry." James Suckling

“Rollhüt” Pinot Nero Alto Adige DOC 2020
Harmonious, velvety Pinot Pinot Noir from vineyards at an altitude of approx. 450 m. These hills with special conglomerate soils of clay and lime and the very suitable microclimate form the ideal conditions for a clear Pinot Nero full of character. Bright ruby to garnet red. Fine, ripe aroma of dark berries and sour cherry. Then harmonious and soft on the palate with a good balance of fruit and body. SUPERIORE.DE
"Considering this pinot noir went into the bottle just half a year after the harvest, it has remarkably satisfying harmony. I love the sour-cherry and fresh red-beet nose, as much as the full, supple tannins on the fresh, medium-bodied palate." James Suckling

Blauburgunder Turmhof Alto Adige DOC 2019
The grapes for this Pinot Noir come from three sites at an altitude of up to 980 metres. Different soils of moraine deposits, limestone gravel and sand give this ruby red wine its unmistakable character. On the nose, blackberries, raspberries and cherries. On the palate, it delights with power and finesse, its harmony and elegance thrilling us all the way to the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"The deep, ripe-cherry nose, without any obscuring oak, leads you into this well crafted, medium-bodied pinot noir that has some silky tannins that mark the texture through the long, graceful finish." James Suckling
"This is a true expression of this delicately fragrant grape with a slightly more robust center of gravity. The Tiefenbrunner 2019 Alto Adige Pinot Noir Turmhof (closed in a screw-cap bottle) offers a good amount of fruit intensity that comes across with extra layers of fragrant cherry, potting soil, pressed rose and dried apricot. The wine reveals a dark ruby color with a dense appearance, and that extra concentration is felt across the supple texture and soft fruit weight offered in this classic vintage, best enjoyed with a hearty liver and onions to keep things healthy." Pinot Nero Valle d’Aosta DOP 2020
Medium ruby, intensely smoky spice on the nose, delicate caramel, light orange note. Elegant texture on the palate, characterised by a fresh breed, sour cherries and red berries in the final. SUPERIORE.DE
"This red evokes juicy marasca cherry flavor, shaded by smoke and spice. Nimble and vibrant, with a silky texture and lingering, stony finish." Wine Spectator
"The 2020 Pinot Nero is such a pretty and finessed varietal expression that mixes alpine herbs with wild strawberries and crushed rocks. It’s elegant with silky textures that usher in masses of lavender-tinged black cherries and spices, as juicy acidity maintains fantastic balance. The 2020 leaves a coating of fruit concentration along with sweet tannins that add a gentle grip, promising a steady evolution. That said, there is no harm in drinking this today." Vinous

“Mimuèt” Pinot Nero Riserva Vigneti delle Dolomiti DOC 2019 (BIO)
The name "Mimuèt" (to my taste) comes from Ladin. Convinced that South Tyrol offers the best conditions for the Pinot Noir grape variety, Alois Lageder paid particular attention to it at a very early stage. His goal is to produce wines with precision, lightness and filigree structure. Garnet red with ruby reflexes. Pinot Noir Mimuèt smells of ripe black cherries, flowers and spices. On the palate, elegant, almost light on its feet, with a multi-layered, soft finish. SUPERIORE.DE
"Very autumnal nose with notes of underbrush, the red-berry fruit very restrained. Sleek and taut with quite grainy tannins, some will probably find this quite challenging. Dry finish with quite some drive and wet-earth character. Just 11.5% alcohol." James Suckling

Pinot Nero Riserva Alto Adige DOC 2019
Pinot Nero Riserva with feminine scent of sweet fruits, flowers, minerals and spices, slender and delicate on the palate, with great balance. Pinot Noir is a diva with high demands on soil and climate and requires a lot of attention in the cellar. "The diva among wines" say many winegrowers to the Pinot Noir, whose best specimens from Burgundy already cost a few hundred euros. The grape variety is also a component of the finest sparkling wines, from Champagne to Franciacorta. And because it places such high demands on soil, climate and winemakers, it is also a challenge and sometimes simply a hobby of winemakers all over the world. Therefore it is not surprising that you can find them in California as well as in New Zealand or Sicily.
The globetrotter gives the diva.
But the best Pinot Nero in Italy come from South Tyrol and Oltrepo Pavese (Lombardy). In South Tyrol, Pinot Noir, the old Austrian name, is often still written on the label - in Germany, by the way, it is called Pinot Noir. The highest sites of South Tyrol are stocked with them. Here, no attempt is made to emulate a Romanée Conti, but this unique terroir and micro-climate is worked out (above all Martin Foradori von Hofstätter). This results in very finely structured, fruity-elegant Pinot Noir with often fascinating fruit-acid play and endless reverberation and just as great ripening potential.
From the mountains to the lakes.
Some very exciting experiments with Pinot Nero also come from Oltrepo Pavese (border between Piedmont and Lombardy) and Tuscany. However, one of Italy's largest growing areas is of course where the finest spumanti are produced using the Metodo Classico method: Franciacorta in Lombardy in the south on the Lago d'Iseo. Almost always as a cuvée with Chardonnay, many of the Franciacorta DOCG's grandiose masterpieces are not hidden in blind tastings behind the more famous colleagues from France. SUPERIORE.DE
