Pure Sangiovese Rosato, fine floral nuances, strawberry and violet hints on the nose. Fresh on the palate, well structured and with clear, red berry aromas through to the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

"This has a bright cocktail-cherry color with aromas of raspberries, sour cherries and herbs. It's medium-bodied with tangy acidity and savory, saline character." James Suckling

"The 2020 Brancato Rosato is richer and darker than expected, showing crushed cherries, sweet herbs and hints of brown sugar. It blends zesty acids and citrus-tinged bright strawberries with a soothing inner sweetness to create a pleasurable display of contrasts. There's so much going on here, coming across as a ripe expression of the vintage yet teeming with energy, as the Brancato tapers off spicy and floral. • "Soralisa" Bianco Sant'Antimo DOC 2019

      “Soralisa” Bianco Sant’Antimo DOC 2019

Filippo Fanti has been producing white wine since the 80's using Trebbiano Toscano and Malvasia Toscana, which are also used for the Vin Santo. At the beginning of 2000 Filippo decided to plant Viognier and Vermentino as well, to mix them with the local grape varieties. The composition of the four varieties varies each year depending on the climatic conditions of the vintage. The name Soralisa recalls the name of Filippo's aunt Elisa, whom he adores very much.

Light yellow, clean, tropical fruit scent, fine spice. In the taste yellow peach, juicy, discreet extract sweetness, neatly structured. A fresh pleasure! SUPERIORE.DE

    • "Non Confunditur" Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

“Non Confunditur” Rosso Toscana IGT 2018

Rosso Non Confunditur from Argiano is made from Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sangiovese. The wine opens with a dark ruby colour and aromas of wild berries, flowers and red berries. On the palate, it thankfully does not show the cloying heaviness or dense extraction found in many other protagonists of the Super Tuscan category. In fact, NC is accessible and fresh, rounded off with a good amount of crisp acidity and a well-proportioned body. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright garnet with brightening rim. In the nose with bright spice, a hint of dark forest berries, needs some air to fully develop. On the palate then with juicy fruit and tight tannin, spreads nicely over the tongue, again juicy in the finish." Falstaff

"A bit reserved, with ample black cherry, black currant and spice flavors set within a solid structure. Fresh and focused, it lingers, echoing the fruit and adding an iron note." Wine Spectator

"The ripe berries with delicate chocolate and hazelnut undertones are very attractive, as are the dusty tannins and herbal, berry and light tobacco undertones at the finish. Just a little more time will make it all the better." James Suckling

    • Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

Bright ruby red. Very lively nose of bright berries and blackcurrant with sweet, spicy components. Crisp, yet balanced acidity on the palate with a racy mix of fresh fruit and sweet extract spice. A cool but very authentic representative of its type that never pretends to be more than it is, but brings enough to be one of the most finessed Rossi of the vintage. It is de facto a very successful wine of a pleasing purity with a clear commitment to the appellation. SUPERIORE.DE

"The Val di Suga 2018 Rosso di Montalcino is a vibrant and fun red to pull out for your next veal or vegetarian lasagna. The wine is teeming with bright berry fruit with wild raspberry and cherry. Showing balanced acidity and a snappy, lean-bodied style, this is textbook Rosso. There is a note of candied cherry and sweet spice on the close. This vintage marks significant improvements since I last visited this wine. You get good value." Robert Parker

Medium-bodied ruby red. Fine, red berry bouquet with hints of blackcurrant, black cherry, sage and smoky notes. Firm and expressive on the palate; multilayered aromas of ripe wild berries, spices and a delicate almond note are flanked by velvety tannins. For a Rosso, Ciampoleto has impressive depth and structure, the respectable finish leaves a soft cherry note with traces of liquorice and a salty vein. SUPERIORE.DE

"Essentially black fruit, but there are hints of raw meat and herbs, too. Medium-to full-bodied with firm tannins and a flavorful finish. Nicely done." James Suckling

"The 2018 Rosso di Montalcino Ciampoleto is wonderfully expressive, mixing savory with sweet through a display of sage and white smoke, which evolves further to show rich cherry sauce, blackberries and a hint of tomato leaf. It’s elegant and silky, with stimulating acids maintaining balance as ripe wild berries and spice flood the palate, leaving salty minerals and a coating of fine tannin in their wake. There’s more structure and depth here than you’d expect from a Rosso, with hints of licorice and violet florals lingering long." Vinous

    • Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2018

Shining bright red. Bouquet of red cherries, aromatic herbs and some tobacco. Large and powerful on the palate in the typical Campogiovanni style, with lush red cherries and aromatic herbal aromas that echo for a long time on the soft, slightly warm finish. A Rosso that gives a good foretaste of the more persistent and complex Brunello. Very successful and charming and accessible even at a young age. SUPERIORE.DE

"Bright dark red. Strawberry and blueberry are complemented by sage and violet on the nose and in the mouth. Nicely framed by polished tannins on the suave bright long finish." Vinous

"A soft, fruity rosso with lovely berry and cherry character. Some cedar and light coffee undertones. It’s medium-bodied with a creamy texture and hints of citrus and walnuts at the finish. Delicious now." James Suckling

Great pleasure is offered by the palatable, but by no means plain Rosso with its fresh fragrance and the hearty, balanced taste. A Rosso Toscano with ambition! SUPERIORE.DE

"The 2018 San Biagio, a 100% varietal Sangiovese, balances tart cherry, peppery herbs, leather and dark earth tones to create a savory and wonderfully inviting display. The textures are soft; yet its fruits are ripe and fleshy, with notes of sour citrus and juicy acids maintaining freshness while keeping the energy high. This is dangerously delicious, finishing long with echoes of blackberry and spice. While I wouldn't hold the 2018 too long in the cellar, it will make a lot of people very happy over the next few years." Vinous

      Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2019

Argiano's Rosso di Montalcino is a very beautiful and expressive wine. Dried herbs, flowers, mint, liquorice and sweet red cherries grace this attractive, medium-bodied Rosso. Medium-textured on the palate, with nice balance and clean notes of raspberries and candied violets. Accessible early on, it offers plenty of fun with its juicy overall impression through to a surprisingly long finish and is also an excellent food companion. SUPERIORE.DE

    • "La Caduta" Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2017

“La Caduta” Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2017

La Caduta is a ripe, velvety Rosso di Montalcino with much depth and great intensity - stylistically far removed from the basic Rosso. Enthusiasm for this fruitiness and race! SUPERIORE.DE

"On the austere side, yet complex and balanced, evoking strawberry, cherry and earth flavors, with a tight matrix of tannins enhanced by lively acidity as this persists on the lingering finish." Wine Spectator

"The 2017 Rosso di Montalcino La Caduta impresses with a classic and savory mix of wild strawberries complemented by notes of incense, sweet tobacco, leather and dusty earth. The textures are silky and rich, lifted by cooling acids and minerals with a dark display of ripe blackberry and plums. There's a density and primary feel to its fruit that I find quite attractive, perfectly framed by fine tannins, as this turns classically dry through the finish, with inner violet tones and hints of currant lingering long. More like a baby Brunello, this is easily one of the most successful Rossos of the vintage, but it will need a year or two of cellaring to be at its best." Vinous

"Firm and very silky with cherry, smoke, orange-peel and cedar character. It's fresh and cool for a 2017 and shows firmness and depth. Baby Brunello here." James Suckling

    About the regionTuscany | Montalcino

The Brunello di Montalcino is one of the most legendary success stories in viticulture in Italy. If not worldwide. Although a wine known as Brunello appears in old documents as early as the 14th century, it was born in 1888, when Clemente Santi first described a wine from his own Sangiovese clones, selected for years, as Brunello on the estate of his family Biondi-Santi, Il Greppo. He allowed the wine to mature for several years in large Slavonian oak barrels. Since until 1945 only four vintages were produced (1888, 1891, 1925 and 1945), the wine was in conversation because of its quality and became known beyond the borders. Today one would probably say cult wine to it. Because it was so rare, but at the same time of legendary quality, it also fetched an incredibly high price - for Italian wine until then. For a long time, Biondi-Santi was practically the only manufacturer, at least until the 1970s it was still the largest. Biondi-Santi is still one of the showpiece wineries today. And one of the most expensive.

In 1966 Brunello di Montalcino became DOC, in 1980 the first DOCG in Italy, both simultaneously with the "little brother" Vino Nobile di Montepulciano. There were just 63,583 bottles of Brunello di Montalcino from the 1980 vintage and today there are over 10 million bottles. The then 700 hectares of cultivated land became 24,000 hectares, but only 3,500 for Brunello. The number of producers increased tenfold, among them many investors, also from abroad, who already leaf out half a million euros for one hectare that allows Brunello cultivation.

Brunello di Montalcino is subject to strict production guidelines that are monitored by the Consorzio del Vino Brunello di Montalcino. Each bottle carries a band with a number with which the wine can be traced back to the producer. All producers are represented in the Consorzio. By the way, this is the only Consorzio in Italy where this is the case. The yield is regulated, as are the grape varieties used for wines from Montalcino - Brunello, Rosso, Sant'Antimo and Moscadello di Montalcino - may be used.

For Brunello di Montalcino this is 100% Sangiovese. Even today, the majority of clones can be traced back to the selection of Biondi-Santi. In recent years, clone selection has also been carried out at Castello Banfi under scientific direction. Here the Sangiovese grape is also simply called Brunello grape. Experts also call it Sangiovese Grosso because it is a clone with slightly larger berries than in Chianti, for example.

Rosso di Montalcino also requires 100% Sangiovese, although the yield may be slightly higher and the wine marketed earlier. At Rosso Sant'Antimo other grape varieties are also allowed, but the main variety must always dominate at least 70%. Other red wines, mostly cuvées, are labelled as Rosso Toscana IGT.

Montalcino is a small mountain town about 40 kilometers south of Siena. The vineyards are located in the surrounding hills at altitudes between 120 and 650m above sea level. The climate here is hot and dry, but is tempered by the altitude and the steady winds. The Sangiovese matures particularly well here. The soils are stony and barren throughout, the vines must have deep roots, which promotes minerality.

Brunello may not be put on sale until after 1 January of the fifth year following the harvest. Before that, at least two years in the barrel (usually four) and subsequent bottle storage are required. In the case of Riserva, the ripening period is extended by one year. Names such as Altesino, Biondi Santi - Il Greppo, Casanova di Neri, Castello Banfi, Ciacci Piccolomini, Donna Olga, Il Poggione, Lisini, Mastrojanni, Poggio Antico, Siro Pacenti, Tenuta Fanti, Uccelleria or Valdicava have made the wine-growing region great. International awards are given year after year, the success: most of the top wines are exported and achieved considerable prizes. SUPERIORE.DE
