Etna Rosso DOC 2022
A multi-faceted introduction to the world of Benanti wines – this Etna Rosso reflects the polyphony of the volcano. The grapes come from altitudes between 450 and 900 metres, distributed on all sides of Mount Etna. The soil is barren and volcanic-sandy, rich in minerals and perfectly aerated – conditions that enable finesse, freshness and crystalline structure. 80% Nerello Mascalese/20% Nerello Cappuccio. The Nerello Mascalese matures predominantly in stainless steel, with only around 20% in used oak barrels, while the Nerello Cappuccio remains entirely in stainless steel tanks. Both varieties ferment with Benanti's experimental, indigenous yeasts for several weeks at a controlled temperature, followed by blending and further ageing in the bottle.

![Etna Bianco DOC 2023]()
Etna Bianco DOC 2023
Benantis Etna Bianco from 100% Carricante is a delicately perfumed expression of Carricante with gentle mineral notes, white flowers and light flavours of peach or nectarine. The true protagonist, however, are the carefully dosed volcanic tones of ash and smoke. The bouquet will become even more refined with a year or more of ageing in the bottle. Fresh and round on the palate, great acidity and a saline vein, with a subtle sweetness on the finish. SUPERIORE.DE

![Nerello Cappuccio Terre Siciliane IGT 2021]()
Nerello Cappuccio Terre Siciliane IGT 2021
The Nerello Cappuccio from the south-western slope of Etna is a rare liaison of finesse and character and a noble fragment of ancient volcanic culture. The grapes ripen at an altitude of 900 metres in the Contrada Cavaliere, where the terroir is characterised by sandy volcanic soils, coarse gravel and perfect light transmission. The vines are around 30 years old, firmly trained in the Albarello system, and deliver concentrated harvestfull of origin. The 2021 vintage is one of the most balanced in recent years: sunny daytime warmth paired with cool nights formed grapes with a ripe structure, lively freshness and beautiful depth of fruit. The winemaking follows a purist approach: selective hand-picking in October, complete destemming, controlled fermentation with the grapes' own yeasts and a maceration phase of around two weeks. Maturation for around 12 months takes place exclusively in stainless steel, after which the wine rests in the bottle until release – a consistent path to clarity and freshness.

“Noblesse” Metodo Classico Terre Siciliane IGT 2021 brut
Noblesse is the very first and still extremely rare bottle-fermented sparkling wine made from Carricante, the noble indigenous white grape of the Etna volcano. The grapes come from 20-60 year old vines that are planted both in the traditional bush vine (albarello) and in rows using the Guyot training system. Pale straw yellow in colour with light greenish reflections. Very delicate and persistent perlage, fine foam. Intense on the nose, with a delicate fragrance of orange and lemon blossom and ripe apple. Wonderfully fresh and dry on the palate, elegant, with pleasant acidity and a lovely aromatic, delicately yeasty finish. SUPERIORE.DE

This elegant and very harmonious red comes 100% from the small vineyard (Contrada) Cavaliere on the south-west slope of Mount Etna. The vineyards in the municipality of Santa Maria di Licodìa develop at a considerable altitude (approx. 900 metres above sea level) with favourable conditions for all indigenous varieties, both red and white grapes, which are cultivated here with Guyot pruning. !["Contrada Monte Serra" Rosso Etna DOC 2021]()
“Contrada Monte Serra” Rosso Etna DOC 2021
Named after a small but significant parcel (contrada) on the south-eastern slope of Mount Etna near Viagrande, this wine embodies the story of a unique terroir. The 2021 vintage was surprisingly cool and precise in Monte Serra. The ripening took place without heat peaks, supported by steady breezes and cool nights. The result is a fruit that remains vibrantly lively and at the same time has a depth that lingers - perfect for a wine that needs balance and expression at the same time. The wine is made from 100% Nerello Mascalese from vines, some of which are over 100 years old, planted in dense Alberello on sandy volcanic terraces. The mineral geology meets mountain winds and sea breezes: a terroir that brings tension, coolness and minerality to the glass.

“Contrada Calderana Sottana” Rosso Etna DOC 2021
Different location, different profile: Contrada Calderana Sottana comes from a special place. In the Calderana Sottana subzone, south-east of the summit, where the altitude begins and the soil consists of fine volcanic clay and sand, vines are rooted at over 700 metres, spoilt by the sun early in the morning and shaped by the coolness and high-altitude winds at night – a terroir that favours tension and freshness in equal measure. The 2021 vintage was also restrained in its ripeness in this location, but rich in expression. Vinified from 100% Nerello Mascalese, traditionally grown in Alberello, the wine is aged for around 12 months in tonneaux after controlled fermentation and short maceration. The ageing process is seen as fine work – it shapes and emphasises without overpowering.

Opens in a delicate ruby red colour, then fine, heady, spicy on the nose, revealing a pretty basket of red fruits after a few minutes of aeration. Initially closed on the palate, only gradually revealing its flavour facets, then medium pressure in the middle, with a very fine structure and almost Burgundian finesse and elegance. The area around the small town of Milo is the only vineyard site on Etna where an Etna Bianco is allowed to be bottled as Superiore - and for good reason: only Carricante may be planted on the steep vineyard, which consists of dozens of small terraces. As early as the end of the 18th century, Benanti's ancestors began growing grapes on a vineyard in Viagrande on the southern slope of Mount Etna. Throughout his life, Giuseppe Benanti uncompromisingly focused on quality and played a major role in enabling the appellation at the foot of the volcano to develop its potential so brilliantly. The Etna winemaker died in February 2023, and Giuseppe Benanti handed over the business to his twin sons Antonio and Salvino in 2012. If their father had not decided to renovate the Sicilian family winery in 1988, one could not speak so euphorically today of a renaissance of viticulture around the volcano, which had long sunk into insignificance.
For it is thanks to the winegrower, who persistently adheres to the tradition and history of the growing region, that Etna has long since regained a great reputation and international recognition among critics and wine lovers. Through decades of experimentation, Giuseppe Benanti, as a pioneer of the region, has given the business a solid scientific foundation. This foundation will continue to be the basis for impressive wines with an authentic expression of the volcanic terroir.
The natural yeasts developed and patented by the far-sighted winemaker and the introduction of the Albarello cultivation method have provided useful insights into the potential of autochthonous grape varieties and serve as examples for other wine houses. The merit of the Cavaliere del Lavoro is also the reactivation of old and higher terraced plots. For this purpose Giuseppe carried out experimental plantings and experiments in the cellar. A mistake from the past has now been ironed out by his sons: Antonio and Savino had noted in a survey that the acquisition of land in Castiglione di Sicilia and Noto was not consistent with the history and roots of the farm. Therefore, they have sold vineyards in which varieties such as Cabernet or Chardonnay do not grow according to the Etna tradition.
On the northern, eastern and southern DOC slopes of Mount Etna, the autochthonous varieties Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio and Carricante thrive. Teamwork produces wines of extraordinary depth in the estate, which do not at all fit into the taste picture that many expect from southern plants. The name of the premium white wine Pietramarina has since been changed to Pietra Marina to comply with stricter regulations prohibiting a reference to the district of the same name. SUPERIORE.DE
